Your changes to International Space Station change

Hello, Soumya-8974. Thank you for your changes here. I noticed that your changes to International Space Station included the following:

  • Links to English Wikipedia articles: we don't use those, even if there's no article here. That's because we use red links as a way of seeing what articles would be good to create here.
  • Dates in nonstandard formats (for example, "12th July 2000"). The manual of style describes acceptable date formats at Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Dates.

Because of these issues, I reverted your two recent changes to this article. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:29, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

December 2018 change

Thank you for changing Wikipedia. We welcome all changes, but we can have only changes that are in simple English, and your new changes to "International Space Station" were not simple. Please see Wikipedia:How to write Simple English pages so you can write more simply in the future. Thank you. Please do not copy text directly from English Wikipedia. That text is usually too complex for this Wikipedia. Auntof6 (talk) 07:33, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Leaders of India change

Greetings, Soumya! About your changes about several Indian leaders on the page 20th Century#World leaders, I have some remarks I hope you'll find helpful:

  • When adding a new subject's name, please "wikify" to make it a wikilink. For a subject that has no page here in the Simple English WP it will show up as a red link. This will attract viewers' attention that the page needs to be created here.
  • For such a page that doesn't yet exist here, I recommend using the form of the subject's name in the English Wikipedia. This is what I did for Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das (instead of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das). It's actually what you did for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose
    • Note that I learned this today from you! (I have to look at the English Wikipedia for information about Asian leaders - this wasn't part of my public education growing up in California in the 1950s-1960s.)

It's great to see you joining the contributors who share our knowledge here. You can learn a lot, as I have, from experienced users and Administrators such as @Auntof6: (e.g. her explanations above). Feel free to ask any individuals or on Simple talk - you'll see many questions I've asked there in recent months as I'm still quite new at the Sewp and am learning new methods all the time. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 16:14, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I know that Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das was an incredible guy in our country (India). Soumya-8974 (talk) 06:18, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

February 2019 change

Welcome to Wikipedia. You might not have done it on purpose, but your recent change removed helpful information from Wikipedia. We ask that you do not remove things from pages, as you did to "January 0", without giving a good reason in the change summary. If it was a mistake, do not worry. The part of the article you removed has been put back. If you want to try things out, please use the sandbox. If you would like to learn how to help Wikipedia, please see the welcome page. Thank you. March 2019 change

  • I think you should be careful with changes to important pages like Galileo Galilei. The page has been edited by some expert people, and does not need major changes. If you think it does, please discuss them first on the talk page. This is an encyclopedia, and people use it every day to find out information. Changes should be made where there are obvious reasons, not just "I would have done it differently". Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:58, 27 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

New stub templates change

Hi, Soumya-8974. I noticed that you created some new stub templates. You might not have known, but on this Wikipedia, new stub templates and categories need to be approved before being created. Because of this, the templates you created will be deleted. For information about this requirement, please read Wikipedia:Simple Stub Project. If you think the stub types you want to create would qualify, you can request them on the talk page of that page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:45, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion of Jesu change

The page you wrote, Jesu, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. DannyS712 (talk) 22:16, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

May 2019 change

Thank you for changing Wikipedia. We welcome all changes, but we can have only changes that are in simple English, and your new changes to "Grigori Rasputin" were not simple. Please see Wikipedia:How to write Simple English pages so you can write more simply in the future. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 19:30, 13 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, but what about the birth and death date? It was written in Old Style (at the time, Russia used Julian calendar). @.@
So, I have copied the Infobox from En Wiki.
—Your's sincerely, Soumya-8974 (talk) 07:14, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Copying the infobox is fine. If you want to copy text from enwiki, it needs to be simplified. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:19, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

In general, you should not make so many changes to pages which are in a perfectly good condition, especially those flagged as "good pages". Instead, you could make suggestions on their talk pages. Macdonald-ross (talk) 10:50, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I thought that this rule is limited with "Featured articles" only.
—Your's sincerely, Soumya-8974 (talk) 11:04, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) I don't think we have such a rule at all. Even our very good articles (we don't call them featured here) can need updating sometimes. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:40, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Apollo 8 change

Hello, Soumya-8974. Thanks for your improvements to this article. I noticed that you added a "See also" section. You might not have known, but on this wiki we use a different section name for that: "Related pages". I changed it, but please keep this in mind for future changes. If you're interested, I have a list of this and other things that are done differently here from the way enwiki does them. The list is here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 07:59, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please do not make unhelpful changes to Wikipedia. The changes you made seem to be vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you want to try changing Wikipedia to learn more about how it works, please use the sandbox. Thank you. DJSasso (talk) 12:35, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

My change was considering vandalism!? Why?
Soumya-8974 (talk) 12:38, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Removing the category from all the articles, and then proceeding to try and QD the category as nonsense, when it is an accurate category was clearly not in good faith which would be vandalism. -DJSasso (talk) 12:41, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I have requested a QD for the Category:Artemis program.

Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39 change

Why do you want this article deleted? Vermont (talk) 23:28, 6 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Template:User teenager change

You may want to take the template to RfD if you want it deleted, that way others can share thoughts why. Zaxxon0 (talk) 06:58, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox aircraft change

I declined your QD request because the template is in use. I see that enwiki deleted their copy of it following a discussion, but we have had no such discussion here. If you think we should delete our copy, please open an RfD and describe what we would replace it with.

By the way, when you ask for QD on a template, please add noinclude tags in the template around the QD template. The Twinkle option to add the tags doesn't work. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:57, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I'm not sure if you've ever created an RfD before, but it needs more than just putting the template on the page. You need to create the discussion page and notify the template creator. Twinkle takes care of all that, so if you use Twinkle, you might want to remove the RfD template you added and start over with Twinkle. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:13, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
As Auntof6 mentions, en.wiki and simple.wiki are two completely separate entities. What they have and what we have don't really have a bearing on each other. There may in some cases be reasons why we sill use an older template where they have an updated one. It is the same reason why just copying over a new version of a template isn't necessarily a good thing because it can and often does break all the articles that are using an old one. So unless you go through fixing the articles that can be an issue. In this case we were still using the templates on a number of articles so it could not be deleted for being deprecated. That being said I just went through and updated all the articles using it so I will speedy delete it now. But next time if you want to make such a change, make sure you update all the articles first. -DJSasso (talk) 10:35, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
And also, please announce the change so that people who are used to using the old template know that things have changed. Thanks. By the way, why was the change made to begin with? --Auntof6 (talk) 10:41, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I am actually surprised any pages were using it, as it was there was only about 10. It was depricated on en.wiki right after it was created here in 2008. (It only stuck around there longer than that for some odd reason to see the infoboxes in old history edits which I have never heard of a template being kept for before). So in this really odd case there wasn't much reason to have the duplicate template here that achieves what a much more up to date one does. Really was a perfect example of a template that should be deprecated once it was no longer in use. It just wasn't at that point when the tag was slapped on it. -DJSasso (talk) 11:53, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Djsasso:Yeah, I understand that it was deprecated. I guess what I was curious about is what the improvement was with the new template. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:03, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I haven't dug through the very old archives, but my guessing is that it is because they converted over to a modular based infobox instead of a static one. The new one you only have to use modules specific to the information you want to use in the article from what I can tell. Certain planes might not have to show certain info. Planes vs Hellicopters etc. Whereas the one that was deprecated had the same fields for everything and was probably not able to get more specific about the different types of aircraft. But that is just my educated guess. I didn't comb through their archives. -DJSasso (talk) 12:08, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Burj Khalifa change

Hi, Soumya-8974. I wanted to let you know that I changed the use of the CVT template back to {{convert}} in this article so that the names of the measurement units could be spelled out. I spell those out because our target audience (people whose English isn't the best) might not understand the abbreviations. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 15:34, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Attribution change

Just a reminder that you cannot just copy over new versions of templates from en.wiki without indicating attribution in at minimum the edit summary or else you are creating a copyright violation. See Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution for more information. That page is more about entire articles, in the case of just updating a template linking to it in the edit summary and saying where you got it is usually more than enough. -DJSasso (talk) 12:27, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Just a reminder not to copy over new version of templates from en.wiki without attribution. Continuing to do so will eventually lead to a block. And when you do copy them over make sure you update every instance of it on all the pages it is used on. Otherwise don't copy it over. -DJSasso (talk) 12:07, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
You copied over another template without attribution. This is your final warning on this. The next one will be a block. -DJSasso (talk) 17:10, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
What about Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei?
–Your's truly, Soumyabrata (talk) 17:14, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
What about them? Are you just copying and pasting text over from en.wiki to them as well? -DJSasso (talk) 17:16, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

They are done by other Wikipedians. See the "View history" of them. –Your's truly, Soumyabrata (talk) 17:23, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

It shouldn't be done by anyone unless attributed as I point to above. You need not worry about other people, just worry about yourself as you have been warned numerous times. -DJSasso (talk) 17:25, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please check for notes change

Hi, Soumya-8974. When you make a change that adds notes to an article, such as this change, please make sure that the notes are displayed. When you don't, an error message appears at the bottom of the article. I fixed this one as an example. If you have any questions, feed free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:04, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Spaceflight stub change

I shall make a stub template about spaceflight, if you agree.

–Your's truly, Soumyabrata (talk) 07:07, 22 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

New stub types (incuding templates and categories) need to be discussed and approved at Wikipedia talk:Simple Stub Project before being created. Besides that leaving a message like this on your own user page doesn't usually get anyone's attention. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:11, 22 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

June 2019 change

You have been blocked from changing Wikipedia for 24 hours for copyright violations.

Once the block has ended you can make helpful changes. Please read Wikipedia's blocking policy and remember that adding spam, making changes that do not have a neutral point of view, making personal attacks on others, not respecting other people's privacy, and vandalizing pages are not allowed. If you do any of these things, you will be blocked again.

If you think this block is unfair, you can ask to be unblocked by adding {{Unblock|your reason here}} below. If you cannot do this or the reason is private please send an e-mail to simple-admins-l@lists.wikimedia.org and an administrator will look at your reason and reply. You may want to read our guide to unblock requests before asking to be unblocked. DJSasso (talk) 14:03, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I know that copying from other Wikipedia is considered anarchy, but I have tried to simplify and remove jargons. Anyhow, I will copy the statements from the reliable sources instead of another Wikipedia after this.
–Your's truly, Soumyabrata (talk) 14:14, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
The problem isn't that you are not simplifying them. It is that you are copying them over without saying you got them from en.wiki. That is a copyright problem. It is a legal problem. You can't copy from somewhere else and just paste it into wikipedia. You are copying whole templates and pasting them here or whole document pages and pasting them here. All of that is violating copyright unless you attribute it. See Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution. Even the page you linked to says what you have to do on line #16. -DJSasso (talk) 14:17, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you copy directly from copyrighted sources expect another block, perhaps indefinitely. That is a serious copyright problem and I'm afraid you don't understand the implications of copyright, considering what you said in your last statement. I recommend not copying anything from anywhere, and instead writing your own content as that will make sure there are no copyright issues. Vermont (talk) 15:15, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I decided not to copy anything from anywhere, except in emergency. For now, restore this revision.

Question change

Hi, Soumya-8974. Would you please explain the purpose of this change to Charles III of Spain? I ask because the infobox parameters are no longer on separate lines and the first text paragraph no longer starts on a separate line: neither of those is desirable. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:42, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I used Visual Editor to add the infobox.
–Your's truly, Soumyabrata (talk) 06:45, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
There was an infobox there before. Is there something different about the infobox other than running the parameters together? --Auntof6 (talk) 06:51, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speed of light change

The speed of light as given on that page is not an exact quantity as our readers will understand it. It is definitionaly exact in the sense of "by international agreement a metre is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299792458 second". That rests on the length of time occupied by 9,192,631,770 cycles of the radiation emitted by a caesium-133 atom in a transition between two specified energy states. We have a problem here of how to say things to our readers in basic physics articles. We have almost entirely failed to write good simple articles on modern theoretical physics. I'm just thinking aloud. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:59, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
