RfD nomination of The Imitation Game

An editor has requested deletion of The Imitation Game, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2014/The Imitation Game and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Rus793 (talk) 14:29, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wannabe (song)

Angela, the sentence you had in this article that talked about the lyrics didn't make sense. That's because of the way you changed it from what the enwiki article said.

The enwiki article said:

The lyrics... address the value of female friendship over the heterosexual bond

Your version said:

The lyrics talk about female friendship over heterosexual bond.

Changing "address" to "talk about" was good simplifying -- I give you credit for that. However, without the words you took out, the sentence doesn't make sense. Even with them, though, "heterosexual bond" is a complex phrase that you should have simplified. Actually, the whole sentence should have been simplified, not just individual words -- there's a much simpler way of saying it. Again I have to tell you that you need to understand everything the original is saying before you simplify it. Usually, each word has a purpose and you have to be thoughtful when deciding what to take out.

One last thing: be sure to put attribution for this article on the talk page. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:58, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Maria Altmann

I have moved this page to your userspace for improvement. I will put notes on the talk page.

I see that you created the article with an "unsourced" tag. The enwiki article you based it on had sources. I don't know why you didn't include any of those sources. When you copy an article that has sources, include at least one of them here.

--Auntof6 (talk) 22:53, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nintendo

In Gremlins 2: The New Batch (video game), you wrote that the game was "developed for Nintendo and Game Boy". The enwiki article says it was released for "the Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy". The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is only one of the systems that Nintendo makes, so it was not helpful to shorten it to just "Nintendo". In fact, Game Boy is also a Nintendo system, so the sentence as you left it was redundant. As I have asked you before, please be sure you understand what an article is saying before you simplify it. Before you take out any words, be sure you understand why they were there so that you can be sure you don't change the meaning or say something that doesn't make sense or isn't true. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:39, 23 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Doc Hollywood and Double Impact

Some notes about these articles (some of these notes apply to other articles as well):

  • Please do not create articles with tags saying that they need sources. If you recognize that they need sources, you should add sources yourself. If you can't find sources, then either create the article without the tag or create a different article.
  • In articles about movies, please be more specific when describing the plot. Saying a movie is "about life experiences" or about people "involved with crime and secrets" is vague and makes the article read like an advertisement. Either be more specific or don't describe the plot at all.
  • For Doc Hollywood, the term for this kind of movie is "romantic comedy", not "romance-comedy". These is also a specific category for romantic comedies: they should not go separately into categories for romance movies and comedy movies.

Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:55, 30 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Notes on recent articles

A few notes about some things in your recent articles:

  • In Nell (movie), you said that Nell was disabled. She was not disabled. She didn't speak normally, but it was because she learned to speak from a woman who didn't speak normally because she had had a stroke. That is not the same as being disabled.
  • In articles about cities, when giving the population you used the word "residents". Please use "people" instead.
  • In any article, when saying where something is, don't use the word "located" (or "situated" or "found", for that matter). That word is not needed. Just leave it out and say, for example, "It is in Freeborn County."

Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:22, 2 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hurricane Arthur (2014)

You created this article on July 4 with a {{current}} tag. This is no longer a current event, so I have removed the tag. When you put this tag on an article, or create an article with the tag, please remember to go back and remove it when the event is no longer current. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:50, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Frank Farian

Saying that Farian was the "mastermind" behind Milli Vanilli doesn't really tell us anything. Please change the article to say what his involvement actually was. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:52, 12 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello Angela.

maybe some time i make a better wiki page you can help me? thank you. --3nibxx (talk) 14:40, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Articles about living people require sources

Recently, you created at least one article (Mary Wilson) about a living person without including a reference. All articles about living people have to have at least one reference, every time. If you don't have a reference, then don't create the article. This has been explained to you before, more than once. It's very important because of the possible legal issues there can be when writing about living people. Please add a reference to Mary Wilson. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:19, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Movie articles

I recently had to correct the plot descriptions in a couple of movie articles you created.

In Gaslight (movie), you said the movie was about "murders in London". There was only one murder involved in the plot, and it happens before the start of the action in the movie. The movie is actually about what happens after that, mostly about the man trying to drive his wife crazy to get her jewelry.

In Laura (movie), you said the movie was about "investigations of murder in New York City". There was only one investigation.

If you are going to describe the plots in movie articles, you have to get them right. Read the entire plot description, or actually watch the movie if you have access to it and are interested in watching it. Then figure out the summary. Movie articles are much better with plot information, but it's better not to have it than to get it wrong. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:48, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Question

Why do you unlink articles on your talk page? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:10, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm keeping my talkpage in line with updates. Particularly, updates one month old or older are no longer relevant. Angela Maureen (talk) 02:13, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand. What do you mean by "in line"? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:36, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

References with in-line citations in new articles

Hello Angela,

Wow, you have been creating lots of new articles here. That is really great!

I have been working on a backlog of articles about people that don't have any references listed in the articles. I was wondering if you could please try to put a reference or citation in each new article that you write. It would be really easy to do at the same time while you have the website or book or whatever opened up. If you have any questions about doing the references in the article, I would be glad to help. Please just ask me. Thanks for all the work you have been doing here.

ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 02:37, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Movie articles, a couple of notes

When you give the year of a movie, it's better to say something like "Movie' is a 2005 drama movie" than "Movie is a drama movie of 2005". One reason is that it's better grammar. Another reason is that saying "a movie of 2005" can be interpreted as meaning that the movie is about something related to the year 2005.

When you talk about the critics' reviews, it's better grammar to say "reviews from critics" than "reviews by critics".

Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 22:09, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

It would also be better to include a brief description of the plot as well as a source, even if it's only the IMDb page. Jim Michael (talk) 12:28, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please include references, especially when bringing over enwiki articles that already have them

I just looked at your recent article on Ingrid Pitt. It has no references, even though the English Wikipedia article it's based on has some. Please be sure to include references, especially in cases like this where you don't even have to search for them. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:40, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Movie release dates

When giving the release date of a movie, please use the word "on". For example, say "released on January 1, 2014" instead of "released January 1, 2014". If you're giving just the month or year of release but not the day, use "in" instead of "on". Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:26, 8 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

warning levels

I've upped the level of warning to the vandal on Oscar Pistorius because it was obvious and serious vandalism of a sensitive page, about which he was warned before. User has a history of vandalism. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:42, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect reverting

With this edit, you reverted what appears to be a valid change to an article. Did you have a reason for thinking the change was wrong? --Auntof6 (talk) 04:58, 13 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for getting ahead of myself. I got carried away. Won't let it happen again. Trust me, guys. Angela Maureen (talk) 05:22, 13 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Warning vandals

Hi, Angela. Thanks for your work reverting vandalism. I see you're making good use of Twinkle! I noticed that when you warned user 78.40.232.71, you started with a level-2 warning. I just wanted to mention that when you warn a user who either has no previous warnings or hasn't been warned in some time, it's usually best to start with a level-1 warning. This is especially true with IP users. (An exception is when the vandalism is very offensive, such as profanity or attack language.) Thanks, and keep fighting vandalism! --Auntof6 (talk) 18:24, 17 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

How to become an administrator

Hi Angela, I saw on another post that you would like to become an administrator in the future. I wrote these notes earlier for another editor about what how to do it. These are only guidelines, and my opinion, but I hope you find it useful.

It is a long process to be come an administrator. You will need to show the community that you are an excellent editor, and have both written and improved a large number of articles. You need to show an understanding of Basic English and know how to simplify articles. You will need to show that you understand and have been actively involved in some of the projects on this Wikipedia, such as Did you know?, requests for deletion, or good articles. You will have taken part in discussions about procedures and policies on Wikipedia:Simple Talk. You will have talked with other editors, and helped new editors by communicating with them on talk pages. You will also need to show that you have taken an active part in fixing vandalism and reporting vandals. Nearly all our administrators had at least 12 months experience and at least 1000 quality edits before they became admins. In most cases they did not volunteer to be admins, but were asked by other community members. It may seem difficult to do all this, but many people have done it, so there is no reason why you can not do it too. I look forward to seeing your progress, and am always willing to give help, or answer questions.--Peterdownunder (talk) 21:10, 4 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Harris M. Lentz III

You write quite a few biographies of movie stars. I thought you might be interested in some books at Google books with previews. They're by Harris M Lentz, III. Some of them are:
Obituaries in the Performing Arts, 2011
Obituaries in the Performing Arts, 2012
Obituaries in the Performing Arts, 2013
He's been writing these yearly since the 1990s. In addition to those you can read at Google books, you may be able to others in a library near you. Just one would provide a great number of stars and information. At Google books you can find a list of books he's written by searching for: " inauthor:"Harris M. Lentz III". Anyway, in case you didn't know about these. They make good source citations also. Good luck. Rus793 (talk) 23:16, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please include references

Angela, please start including references in all your new articles. You base a lot of articles on English Wikipedia articles that have references right in the lead. You could use those references, or find others on your own. This is becoming more important as this Wikipedia gets bigger. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:15, 12 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
