Hinduism is biggest religion of India. 966.3 million people identify as Hindu, representing 79.8% of the country's population in 2011 census.[1] India contains 94% of the global Hindu population, the world's largest Hindu population.[2] The vast majority of Hindus in India belong to Shaivite and Vaishnavite denominations.[3] India is one of the three countries in the world (Nepal and Mauritius being the other two) where Hinduism is the dominant religion.

In most parts of the India, Hindus are in majority especially in Himachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Puducherry, Karnataka, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Delhi, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, Goa, Assam and Sikkim .[4]
