Many delegations stated that any attack on diplomatic and consular premises breaks the rules in the charter of the United Nations as well as Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and other international laws.[2]

The Israeli attack happened during a time of increased tension between Iran and Israel, as well as ongoing war between Israel and Gaza in which Israel has killed over 48,000 people in Palestine.[3][4] Iran announced it would retaliate for the attack, which it would acheive on 13 April 2024.

Syria's Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, condemned the attack, calling it a "terrorist attack" that killed innocent people.

Officials from many other countries condemned the attack as well, including the Prime Minister of Iraq,[5] the Prime Minister of Spain,[6] the President of Nicaragua,[7] and the foreign ministries of Afghanistan,[8] Algeria,[9] Armenia,[10] Brazil,[11] Belarus,[12] China,[13] Cuba,[14] Egypt,[15] Indonesia,[16] Jordan,[source?] Italy,[17] Kazakhstan,[18] Kuwait,[19] Lebanon,[20] Libya,[21] Malaysia,[16] Maldives,[22] Mauritania,[23] Norway,[24][25] Oman,[26] Pakistan,[27] Qatar,[28] Russia[29] (who called it a "political killing"[30]), Saudi Arabia,[31] South Africa,[32] Sierra Leone,[33] Tajikistan,[34] Tunisia,[35][36] Turkey,[37] United Arab Emirates,[38] Uzbekistan,[39] Venezuela,[40] and Vietnam.[41] The Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan expressed concern.[42]

On 13 April 2024, the Iranian military fired Operation True Promise on Israel, in which dozens of Israeli military bases and weapons facilities were destroyed/heavily damaged as reprisal for the Israeli attack.
