Family tree of Japanese monarchs

family tree of the Imperial House of Japan

This is a family tree of the Emperors of Japan (tenno)[1] from Jimmu to the present day.

The chrysanthemum symbol of the Japanese emperor and his family

The legendary genealogy of the emperors includes Shinto deities.[2]

The traditional order of succession begins with Emperor Jimmu.[3]

In the graphic chart, the names of Jimmu and his successors are highlighted in yellow. The ordinal numbers of the Japanese monarchs are in red; and these are also highlighted in yellow.

The pretenders of the Nanboku-chō period are highlighted in beige.
