February 2024 change

Hey there, BigKrow! Here are a few good ideas that you can use to help making articles in the future:

  • If the article that you made is under 1,500 characters, please add the {{stub}} template into the article near the end (below the "Other websites" section, and below any categories). This will let other editors know that it is a short article that needs to be made longer.
  • If you have no idea what categories an article that you begin should go under, please add the {{uncat}} template to the article. This will let other editors know that you need help categorizing the article properly.

Thanks for reading this long message, and happy changing here on Simple English Wikipedia! MathXplore (talk) 07:16, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. BigKrow (talk) 22:28, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion change

Hi there. Please make sure to provide a reason to delete the article you are requesting speedy deletion of, with the reason being one of the criteria listed on the deletion policy. You can format it as {{sd|a1}} for example. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 22:21, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. BigKrow (talk) 22:28, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please provide reasons for deletion requests change

Hello, at en:n:special:diff/4763486, an admin has requested you to provide valid reasons for your deletion requests. Please remember that the same manner is expected in all Wikimedia projects including here. Please also note that deletion requests without reasons may be rejected. For valid reasons for our project, please see WP:QD. In addition, SD tags must come to the top, not the bottom. If you add tags to the bottom, admins have to scroll to the end of the page. Thank you for helping simplewiki. MathXplore (talk) 01:47, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Again, please provide reasons for deletion requests. If you don't know how to write them, feel free to ask questions. MathXplore (talk) 02:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Twinkle change

Please consider using this, this can help your deletion requests. It is widely used in our project and enwiki. MathXplore (talk) 02:00, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deletion requests change

I was processing current deletion requests and noticed that your request for Dj Tubet was not listed at WP:Deletion requests. When you create a deletion request, you must list it there or it will not be processed. I will put it there, but please be sure to do that yourself for any that you create in the future. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 12:54, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Drug dog change

Two things:

  1. Do you think Drug dog should be redirected to Police dog?
  2. A user who created an article is usually allowed to blank it (especially if they just recently created it). This is taken to mean that they accept it being deleted, and it can be deleted under {{Qd-author}}.

Kk.urban (talk) 17:46, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Drug sniffing dog or police dog sounds fine, what do you think? Thank you. BigKrow (talk) 17:49, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I mean we already have an article about police dogs, and a drug-sniffing dog is one kind of police dog, but maybe the page drug dog isn't yet long enough to be a separate article. Kk.urban (talk) 17:51, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
RFD? BigKrow (talk) 17:52, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll just redirect it. Kk.urban (talk) 17:52, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Linking change

Hey BigKrow,

To let you know we do not link to common terms that are universally known. I saw you relinked Village, Saskatchewan, and Canada in La Loche shootings. Saskatchewan I feel is ok, because not everyone will know will that is, but every person knows a a country and a village. Are you ok if I remove the links to those 2? Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:31, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes BigKrow (talk) 21:32, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok done. Also, I do not know if we have the full version here, but this is the en wiki version Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking.
Our exceptions:
  1. We want redlinks galore (en wiki does not and hates them!) - Helps to find out what pages need to be created via Special:WantedPages (you may find something in there you want to write about too) I have found a few I do when I get time)
  2. Common terms that everyone knows (like the two I mentioned) we do not do. Our goal is to keep it simple and if we link to all common terms, then we take the reader off of that article to another one to find out they already know what a village is, what a police force is, what the internet is, etc.
There is a link and a conversation somewhere that I cannot recall at the moment as I am working on an article for someone and doing a review, but I figured this can be helpful for you. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:42, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for being kind to me even though I was being an arse to you.... BigKrow (talk) 21:45, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey it is all good. Things happen and they go away. We all make mistakes and we learn from them. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:55, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) I think Simple English Wikipedia is different because we can only assume people know the words on WP:Basic English combined wordlist, and Canada and village aren't on that list, so it would be okay to link them. Kk.urban (talk) 21:45, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok you two please work matters out, ty. BigKrow (talk) 21:46, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kk.urban
Village - Wikipedia:VOA_Special_English_Word_Book
As far as Canada, per MOS we do not link well known countries, however, we can link to the article Saskatchewan, Canada which makes more sense (actually I will make that change now). See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Places, Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Wikilinking
We do not strictly use the 850 or 1500 word books as other things come into play, like the link above on the VOA. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:08, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your recent edit. change

Hey @BigKrow, I saw you added {{complex}} template on Kanyakubja Brahmin. I edited this article with as easy english as it can be. Can you exactly point out or explain which part of this article may not be easy for everybody to understand so that i can try to make it easier? Hong Wei Qin (talk) 00:33, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fixed template syntax, please use tl in future. MathXplore (talk) 01:07, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please avoid user page creations like special:redirect/logid/2686748 change

You have no reason to make user pages for others, and the username is unacceptable. You are just increasing admin jobs, and it is not helpful. Please avoid userpage creations like this in the future. Thank you for your attention. MathXplore (talk) 01:06, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Concerns of unacceptable edit summaries in your recent edits change

For example, special:diff/9466778 includes an unacceptable username in the edit summary. In order to avoid this situation. You may want to use manual reverts instead of automated reverts generating problematic edit summaries. I hope this can help you. MathXplore (talk) 01:13, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reporting change

When reporting users please use twinkle or else it doesn’t post correctly on the VIP board. Also to prevent other formatting issues please use it to warn other users as the templates you are using do not work and have to be substituted. Boletus edulis change

I am done with it now. We had a few edit conflicts. If you see I am working on or just made an edit, I might still be working on it. If you could just wait and if you do not see me make a change within about 5 minutes, then I am probably done. Sometimes, especially with species, I have to make a template to correct an error or I am transferring something over from enwp to fix it. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. April 2024 change

Hello, BigKrow. When you revert a user's changes, like you did earlier, don't forget to leave the user a message on their talk page, especially when reverting vandalism or a test edit. You may find Template:User talk page warnings/table useful when doing this, to let them know that the change was considered inappropriate, and to direct them to the sandbox. Thank you. Using twinkle will automatically do this for you with the right settings. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 00:33, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

RfD vs. QD change

So you know instead of filling up the RfD board, you can select an article for QD for not being notable as long as there are no claims to notability in the article or if someone disputes it claiming notability. Otherwise you can QD it and an admin will make the final decision. It may take a bit to get used to it. I’m bringing this up because of one of the articles I was going through (before I got sidetracked with vandalism reverts) got my attention. If you have any questions, please let me know. New pages change

Hi there again. When you are creating new pages (like you did with Riki Choshu), they need to be complete and formatted properly. A one or two sentence article with an external link is not meant for this Wikipedia and can be subjected to QD and the more you make, the higher of a chance you get blocked for project disruption and making bad new pages. I recommend you look at Wikipedia:Guide to layout to see how these should be done. So please take a moment and review it and then work on the article. If you plan on making an bona-fide article, I recommend starting it in your userspace, then when completed move it to the mainspace. If you want reviews on an article, you are more than welcome to ask me directly on my talk page or you can ask on Simple Talk.

While discussing on simple talk about enabling the new Mentor program here, one of our administrators had the following comment:

Also, please, please, PLEASE do not make it a goal to reach a certain number of articles. Every time we approach a big round number, we get a lot of minimal articles created just to inflate the number. A lot of those articles are of poor quality, and some even have to be deleted. -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:20, 12 April 2024 (UTC) (you can read the conversation here Turn on mentoring system

Your help in creating good articles would be appreciated as it is less work for other editors to have to do. As always, if you have any question, please feel free to ping me here or ask me on my page. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 01:23, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Very short articles change

Hi, I've noticed that you've published some articles which are very short and don't contain a lot of content. I would suggest you to move them to your personal user pages, and once you have added substantial content, you can then put them into the mainspace. Remember, we want quality over quantity on Wikipedia. We don't want to create as much articles as possible because what really matters is the quality of articles. See featured articles as an example – they have a lot of info put into them and adhere to many article 'rules' on Wikipedia.

Also, I suggest you to read the Manual of Style so you know the formatting to articles, like references, citations, and etc. Happy changing! TheWikiCyclone (talk) 20:45, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
