Welcome!
changeHello, Jeff G., and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.
Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.
If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.
If you would like to test Wikipedia, please use the sandbox. Please do not test Wikipedia by editing its articles.
Good luck and happy editing!
warnings
changeLet the admin who deletes the page warn the user. Otherwise, duplicate warnings can occur. Of course, notify the user when requested a speedy delete. Griffinofwales (talk) 03:25, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry. The admins on enwp are not so conscientious. — Jeff G. ツ 03:27, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- No problems. We admins try to do our best. Even if he hadn't received that warning, his next one would have been a final. Griffinofwales (talk) 03:30, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

RE:January 2016
changeThe reason why I didn't warn the editor there was because the edit was made a while ago, so they've likely gone offline and won't get a chance to read the warning. J991 19:03, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Patroller rights
changeHi Jeff G. Now that you have patroller rights I thought you might like this to add one or both of these to your page. User:Rus793 (talk) 21:50, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Your QD request for Ahmad al-Khasi
changeHi, Jeff. I deleted this page because it didn't claim notability. However, I wanted to let you know that references do not have to be online, and they do not have to be in English. I mention this because part of your reason for deleting was that the article had "no verifiable reliable sources online in English". I know it can be frustrating when we can't check a source online, but offline and non-English sources are allowed. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:24, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. — Jeff G. ツ 19:26, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
Patrolling
changeHi, Jeff. Thanks for helping out with patrolling. I noticed that you marked Category:Zazaki patrolled. When patrolling, you need to make sure that the pages you're patrolling (whether articles, categories, or whatever) meet our basic requirements. This category did not meet requirements because it has only two entries (we require at least three). If you're going to mark something as patrolled that has some issues, please be sure to tag the page to identify the issues. In this case, the tag to use would be {{popcat}}. If you're not sure about a page, you can leave it unpatrolled. Thanks, and feel free to ask if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:59, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Your qd request on Kendra Lust
changeHi, Jeff. When you add a quick deletion request, you usually don't need to blank the page as you did with Kendra Lust. Only blank it if there is something extreme, such as an unreferenced libellous statement.
By the way, I declined the qd on this page, because it was challenged and the fact that she won an award is at least a claim of notability. We can't qd a page if there is any kind of claim of notability, no matter how slight. Feel free to do an RfD on the page, though. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:58, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: Thank you. I opined at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2017/Kendra Lust. Please note that the original revision I QD'd had no such claim of notability, but did claim without reference that someone I had never heard of was a pornstar, which would be libellous and therefore a BLP vio if untrue, so I QD'd as A10. The general public still considers allegations that someone acted in porn to be negative. Besides all that, Twinkle blanked it because I selected A10, and gave me no other option. When I noticed the blanking, I was pleasantly surprised, but chose not to unblank due to longstanding tradition and accepted Twinkle 1.x design. Note that I switched to Twinkle 2.0 here about 10h ago, so I won't be using the logic inspired by that design again, unless it carried over. — Jeff G. ツ 15:09, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
Rollback
changeCan you explain why you used rollback on this edit and this edit? Neither seem to be vandalism. Only (talk) 15:17, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Only: Both were unsourced additions of information. I am sorry, I see now that I should not have used rollback for such edits, and I won't do it again. — Jeff G. ツ 15:25, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
Please be careful with reverting something just because it is unsourced and our article does not list earlier works. The clue was in the article already: He worked as an actor in the theatre before he worked in movies and shows. Yes, the first movie shown is 1986 but only a little search uncovered what he was doing before. Just because it was an IP edit and unsourced, it was a good and truthful edit.. Thanks. Fylbecatulous talk 00:28, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry. It had all the hallmarks of the "they won't notice if we just change a digit while providing good info elsewhere in the article and don't explain" vandals. — Jeff G. ツ 00:47, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
Hi, Jeff. I saw your edit summary when you created the dab page Delivery. It is perfectly fine to have a dab page with red links. Even if we don't have any of the articles, we could still have pages that link to them, and the dab page helps us disambiguate the term (even if it's to a red link). The only thing I would check is to see if we have some of the redlinked articles under different names: not all of our articles have the same names as the English Wikipedia articles. Other than that, no worries! --Auntof6 (talk) 05:13, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
Nominating templates for deletion
changeWhen you nominate a template for deletion, you need to put <noinclude> tags around it. Otherwise, the rfd/qd nomination appears on pages that use the template. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:47, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, sorry. — Jeff G. ツ 23:48, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- Also, wait a little while after the template is created to give the creator time to use it. At least one of the ones you nominated is now used. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:49, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- How long a while? They should know by now that they shouldn't be creating nav templates without bluelinks. — Jeff G. ツ 23:52, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- I think our past practice has been to give it a month or so. It could be that the creator is going to use the links in the template to start the articles and that could take a while. I don't like waiting as long as a month, but similar RfDs in the past have failed because not enough time had passed. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:57, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

I've deleted all your template RfDs for now. No need to leave RfD notices on the creator's talk page. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:18, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- I saw that and zapped the old notices. BTW, Template:Americans aboard has a "See also" section. — Jeff G. ツ 00:19, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- I saw that, thanks. I'm actually going to delete a lot of the templates. The difference between my doing it and doing it via RfD is that RfD needs to be discussed more, whereas an admin can delete them as a disruptive mass creation. I blocked the user for a few hours, and I'm going to suggest that he/she create an account so they can sit in userspace while articles are created. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:30, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I know well the benefits of the admin bit. :) — Jeff G. ツ 00:40, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

changeSorry for removing content on the article Emerald. Emeralds are not rocks. I was just trying to improve the article. Please visit my talk page if you have anything. -Prahlad balaji (talk) 00:48, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Prahlad balaji: Would you compromise on gemstone? — Jeff G. ツ 00:51, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
Sure! -Prahlad balaji (talk) 00:54, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- May I help? Gemstones, crystals, minerals are all rocks, or parts of rocks. However, the more specific terms are preferred because they identify the characteristics of the object. For example, it's not interesting or even relevant to call emeralds rocks. Calling them mineral gemstones is specific and of interest to a reader who doesn't know what they are. On this wiki we don't need to go into great detail on their crystalline structure. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:46, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Assume good faith
changeHey there. I have noticed a number of your recent reverts have been done using the red "rollback (VANDAL)" option in Twinkle when in fact it was not really vandalism but more or less a test edit. Please be careful not to use choose this option when reverting such edits; there is the green "rollback (AGF)" and blue "rollback" option. If you are confused, just use the rollback tool you have been granted. << S O M E G A D G E T G E E K >> (talk) 01:16, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will AGF more. — Jeff G. ツ 01:19, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) FYI, rollback is only for actual vandalism. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 01:30, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

- 151.95.54.27 & Jeff G: Felice his in fact his real first name so I added a source to prove it, but next time add source or verify claims. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:50, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks again. I used that ref in enwp. — Jeff G. ツ 07:11, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
RfDs
changeHi, Jeff. Lately I've noticed syntax errors in RfD notices, such as the one you placed on Brandon Routh. I'm not sure why it's happening, but would you please review the way you put those notices on pages? We usually don't substitute the {{rfd}} template, so that might be the problem. You might like to use Twinkle to nominate pages for RfD, because it takes care of putting the template on the page, creating the discussion page, and notifying the creator. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:17, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- When I have tried that with Twinkle in my favorite browser, Twinkle got stuck. I will try in other browsers, and I will avoid substing {{rfd}}. — Jeff G. ツ 06:28, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Brandon Routh
changeI added more variable sources to Brandon Routh and I find the need of a Rfd nomination very unnecessary for his case. A BLP tag would have been a better route rather to delete the article of almost 5 years with no issue. Nevertheless I have expanded the article with updated information and more sources in hopes to promptly close the Rfd discussion. Thank you. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:46, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I withdrew my nomination, please see that page. — Jeff G. ツ 06:48, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:50, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- You're welcome. — Jeff G. ツ 07:09, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Vandal warning levels
changeI was about to post the exact same template on the talk of that user who vandalised List of emotions :-) Just wondering though, is it a rule for all Wikipedias to use the same 4 warning levels as on the main English Wikipedia? Doesn't seem very Simple really. --79.52.128.3 (talk) 13:10, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
- I don't think so, but the User Warnings Project there put a lot of time and effort into them, and licensed them so we could use them, so why not? Typically, bad actors will get five bites at the apple before they get blocked, but Administrators can short-curcuit that process. You are welcome to create an account. — Jeff G. ツ 13:15, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Deletion requests
changeQuestion. Must you always nominate every article that does not have sources (because there are way more articles that don't have sources and by deleting them won't help Simple English Wikipedia grow) but simply why not tag them with the Unsourced template or refimprove template. Just asking. BTW I'll be more than happy to expand George Chandler as I did with Brandon Routh. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:32, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101: I was trying to avoid another en:Wikipedia Seigenthaler biography incident. I will tag more. — Jeff G. ツ 06:43, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Jeff G.:: Ah yes the Seigenthaler incident, but I'm sure if the article is simply a stub with nothing with obscure information it is "Seigenthaler free". A simple tag would be better Mr. Jeff G. and it would also encourage other users to improve the article which is the purpose of this community :). P.S. I have expanded the George Chandler article ;) Next time give me a heads up on an article of mine that needs sourcing and I'll be more than happy to improve it (since they were articles from my early days and are rough) :) --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:48, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
Noticed that you nominated this page for qd under A6. Mind expanding upon this? If it's a hoax I'll happily delete it, I'm just hesitant because it's quite a long-standing article. --George (Talk · Contribs · CentralAuth · Log) 17:22, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Caliburn: It is unsourced, it's subject is only covered in one other Wikipedia (not English), and it's subject is not covered in Religion of Ancient Egypt or Template:Ancient Egyptian religion footer. — Jeff G. ツ 02:24, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Caliburn: You might want to reexamine your signature given what AWB did to it in this edit. — Jeff G. ツ 07:28, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
