Page moves

When you move pages, as you did with the works of multiple classical composers recently, you need to check what is linked to the pages to confirm that there are no double redirects - A redirect pointing to a redirect pointing to a page. They are often created with a page move is a redirect was already pointing to that page since the move creates a new redirect. Special:DoubleRedirects shows all recent double redirects. I just repaired a dozen or so you page moves created. Pure Evil (talk) 20:38, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Pure Evil: I thought we had a bot that would eventually take care of those. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:40, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Pure Evil: I'm sorry about that, I should've paid more attention. @Auntof6: Yes, that would be User:Xqbot, though that bot doesn't appear to run that frequently. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to set up a local bot to do this at a higher frequency (daily or twice every day). — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 23:36, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don't know if we get many double redirects, so I don't know how often we really need it. -- Auntof6 (talk) 23:38, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I meant to not have it as a bullet point btw :) but that is ok. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 01:44, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I like to tidy up RfD discussion pages, the reason I added a bullet point is because it wasn't getting a linebreak before the footer. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 01:52, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Removing of short description off 1983-85 North American drought

Was there some reason for removing the short descriptions off that article listed above? We're the short descriptions not needed or too long? Can whoever removed the short description please clarify? Angela Kate Maureen Pears 18:11, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @Tropical Storm Angela: Short descriptions are not meant to be used here. They are only supported on enwiki. Unless there is another wiki using short descriptions that I am unaware of, every other wiki (apart from enwiki) uses Wikidata for short descriptions. --Ferien (talk) 18:13, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, I'm inclined to believe zhwiki's statement: {{SHORTDESC}} 仅在英文维基百科使用 (Shortdesc is only used on the English Wikipedia). Maybe one day we'll use shortdescs for simpler short descriptions, but as they are, the descriptions from Wikidata suffice. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 10:41, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

YGM

I corrected it because at the end it reads as “you have got mail!” which is not correct. Which is why I changed it so it reads with the correct grammar. Can you kindly go back to my edit please? Thanks, PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 10:51, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb, your version of the template would've displayed "Hello (username), Please check it at your convenience!". I'm not opposed to rephrasing it, but you did remove the part of the sentence that lets the recipient know that they got an email ("Check your email"). I'm not a native speaker, but isn't "You have got mail" correct? "You've got mail" is the same sentence, but the "have" has been contracted. How about "Hello (username), You've got mail! Please check it at your convenience" ? — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 10:57, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Actually it did not remove it at all. If you look at the template in the preview window, because it’s calling the page title is why it looked weird. I strictly only changed the last sentence. I would use the sentence you stated but I believe it is copyrighted or patented or something which started when AOL had it then it went to Microsoft whom I believe still has it. That’s why I went with the slightly longer version. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 11:09, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@PotsdamLamb, the wikicode was Hello, {{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1}}. Please check it at your convenience!. {{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1}} would be substituted with the name of the page (sans namespace) the template is placed in. In the template's own page, the title of the page would be "You've got mail!", thus the output would be "Hello, You've got mail! Please check it at your convenience". If "You have got mail" part is to be displayed as well, then the code should be Hello, {{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}|1}}, you have got mail! Please check it at your convenience!. In the template's own page this will look odd ("Hello, You've got mail!, you have got mail! Please check it at your convenience"), but it will look fine in user talk pages. Here's how it looks here:
Hello, Fehufanga, you have got mail! Please check it at your convenience! — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 11:26, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Fehufanga. You have a new email! Please check it at your convenience.
You can take off this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{YGM}} template.

Coercion

Hi Fehufanga. Because you gave useful advice about gerunds and relative clauses, I wanted to ask you something else. Looking at coercion, the first sentence seems unsimple to me. In particular, what do you think about the phrase "to get someone to do something"? Is this an idiomatic use of the word "get" that would be difficult for English learners to understand? If so, can you think of a better way to phrase it? Lights and freedom (talk) 05:41, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Lights and freedom: At the 8th grade level here, such idiomatic uses should already be taught to some extent. One way I would rephrase is to use the causative make: Coercion is using force or threat to make somebody do something against their will - not doing something is doing something after all. I'm not quite sure how to rephrase that in another way. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 05:57, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hey Fehufanga how are you doing today? Eyetsjued (talk) 16:14, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, are you an admin?

Maybe I got it wrong. Are you an admin here? Admins adjudicate QD requests, right? There is a process to use "Wait." If you are an admin, maybe add that to your profile, so it is clear. Thanks --Gotanda (talk) 04:20, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Gotanda: Except that's not obvious advertising. It's not saying only good things about the organization or only promoting the organization. Any editor, except the author of the page can remove QDs, especially if it's invalid. If it was tagged A1? Maybe I wouldn't have removed that, but it's definitely not advertising. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 04:23, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Warnings

Hey can you double check where your warnings are being placed please? This user already got a final because of the amount of copy/pastes they have been doing despite talking about it on one the talk pages for an article I requested a QD on. Yours went to the bottom of the page whist mine is at the top. I’m trying to find out why that happened as it’s not the first time I’ve seen them (not from you) end up in odd places lol. Did you use TW or RW or something else? And funny because as I typed this out it popped up they are blocked now lol. So guess I should go through all they did and check to see if any QDs got removed. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 00:33, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb I use Twinkle, since it's a single-issue notice, I usually just post it anyway to editors who copy and paste from enwiki. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 00:35, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
As for how it ends up at the bottom, I have no idea. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 00:36, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok yeah in this case though it was vandalism. Typically before I post any warnings I look at their tp and contributions to help me decide what level and at that point they crossed the threshold of lvl 1,2, and 3 because of the 30 or so they already created out of 78. Lol. Sometimes what seems like a single issue is not always the case so I like to cross check XXXXXXX-Wiki-Spam and such by clicking on their global contributions and when they start matching then it is done on purpose and not just a single issue. If it was only a couple I would have had done the same as you. So I think it went to create a new section because you did a SIN and not a warning. So TW sees it as a different section. Might be something we need to request to be fixed so they all go in the same place. But great job! Not anything against you I just do it differently. I did try to get them blocked earlier but the only response I got was a busy IRL. Lol PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 00:57, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ae

Hi, what did Wikify do to my article and is there any way it could take up fewer bytes? N1TH Music (talk) 14:12, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@N1TH Music I don't know why you'd want it to take up fewer bytes. I wikified it by bolding the subject of the article (in this case, "Ae"), corrected the category, stub type, and the details. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 14:14, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I just wanted to write a very short article that still followed this wiki's policies. I thought a small stub based on a geographic feature is guaranteed notability and doesn't need details. N1TH Music (talk) 14:15, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@N1TH Music Well, we still have to follow the manual of style when writing articles. I'd argue that not every geographic feature is notable (e.g. a Rukun Warga is not notable to me). The subject of this article is notable, but it needs more information than just that. infoboxes would help a lot here. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 14:18, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I guess, but there's no big demand for an article, do we need the part about Dumfries and Galloway? Or should I find something just about notable to make a tiny article for because a town like Ae needs a proper article. N1TH Music (talk) 14:20, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@N1TH Music Demand doesn't (always) dictate whether or not the subject of an article is notable, nor how short/long it should be. The page about Franz Benda, for example, only received 19 pageviews between April 1st and today (July 17th), but I still try to include as much verifiable biographical detail as I can. If you want to expand it further, go ahead. I just think that a very short single-sentence stub ("Ae is a UK Town") isn't enough to explain what the subject is. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 14:24, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I know this (I've been the one expanding all the shortest pages on the site, just check my contributions), I guess maybe I should try to write all my articles properly instead of setting one aside and making it as short as possible on purpose. But if I did, I should at least pick a less notable topic than Ae since that could be very useful and get quite a few pageviews. N1TH Music (talk) 14:27, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Silla

Can you translate the caption on the image? I don't know what it says or which area is Silla. Alternatively, it could be replaced with the image in the English infobox. Thanks. Lights and freedom (talk) 15:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Lights and freedom I went ahead and replaced the image with a better one from enwiki. The caption had nothing to do with Silla. It says "The situation in East Asia during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han/Tianhan Era". The image shows the provinces/ju of Korea under Later Silla, which is in an entirely different time period. Thanks for bringing that up, I didn't notice that. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 21:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

July 2022

Hello, Fehufanga. When you revert a user's changes, like you did earlier, don't forget to leave the user a message on their talk page, especially when reverting vandalism or a test edit. You may find Template:User talk page warnings/table useful when doing this, to let them know that the change was considered inappropriate, and to direct them to the sandbox. Thank you. Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 12:43, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to remove this, it seems you just forgot to like I did recently! Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 12:44, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Hockeycatcat This is one of the cases where I know the LTA behind this. I've left them plenty of warnings as far back as last year in the past. They tend to target user talk page after they are warned. See Special:Contributions/2A01:B340:62:2584:E94E:6D7:7A50:5F89/50. It's better to just report them straight to AIV but it's probably better to deny them for now. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 12:47, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
With that said, thank you for your vigilance monitoring the recent changes. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 12:48, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Hockeycatcat You can get an IP range by appending /(size of range) to the end of Special:Contributions/(IP address) in the URL. I don't think there's a tool that helps you do this. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 12:54, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb The leader of Al-Qaeda was killed recently in a US drone strike, that's not routine news coverage. It's normal to expect that many people would start googling his name and visit his English Wikipedia, or even Simple English Wikipedia article. If you take a look at Talk:Donald Trump, Talk:Joe Biden, Talk:Betty White (and perhaps talk pages of well-known recently deceased people), those have the annual readership banner. While there's no harm in adding, or removing the banner, it is definitely not a test edit. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 22:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

(change conflict)  @PotsdamLamb This is my last ping to you, but since you placed the {{retired}} template on your user and user talk pages, I don't expect you to read this.
I am not, in any way, trying to constantly sabotage what you are doing. I reverted your edit because the user whose edit you reverted is much more experienced that the account may make it seem (see Special:Contributions/Jim Michael). Your uncivil comments however, are the reason that got you blocked the first time here and on enwiki. Operator873 told you about your rude behaviour on-wiki, yet you continued to make such comments like this and this, which comes across as uncivil to anyone reading it.
I appreciate that you are trying to help the wiki in many ways (clear out wanted templates, counter-vandalism, set up a new archiving bot, add template docs, making the MOS better, etc), but your abrasive and stingy remarks on-wiki have been unhelpful towards anyone trying to communicate with you. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 23:08, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Global locks

@Feohfang: Do you know if stewards lock an account, like the HP vandal, do they also block the IP address? Or is the person free to continue making accounts from that IP address? Lights and freedom (talk) 02:31, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Lights and freedom Nope, global locks do not block IPs associated with that account. That needs to be done in a separate global lock. There is an open task for actual global "blocks". Feohfang (talk) 03:03, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Does that mean these vandal accounts should be posted at WP:VIP? That will ensure that their IP is autoblocked. Lights and freedom (talk) 03:05, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Lights and freedom That's viable, though if they are known to be jumping between IPs it might be a bit difficult to get a working autoblock. Feohfang (talk) 03:10, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

I request you to please visit our Wikipedia:Neutral Point of View to get more information. Best DRC (User:TTP1233) (talk . e-mail . contrib) 16:31, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
It is undue to put information about why a religion is false in an article about the religion itself. It is not a neutral point of view because that point of view is against the point of view of those who believe in the religion. NPOV would be stating what Christianity is - it's a religion. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 22:18, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
