Ban request

Can you please ban 2A02:21B0:644C:4E63:CC52:DFFF:FE40:8D38. He is vandalising categories constantly! Thegameshowlad (talk) 10:00, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @Thegameshowlad: Please use our existing processes and make this kind of request at WP:VIP. In addition, an admin cannot unilaterally ban a user. Bans are done by community discussion. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:37, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Talk page protection

May I have talk page protection please? Being vandalised by Ljupco. SHB2000 (talk) 10:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@SHB2000: Done by Bsadowski1, I'm currently away so apologies for replying later than I usually would. --Ferien2 (talk) 13:42, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

My talk page

Hi Ferien, could you please temporarily protect my talk page and the talk page of Thegameshowlad due to vandalism from IP's? Thanks, Hockeycatcat (talk) 11:38, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Hockeycatcat, the vandalism seems to have stopped now but I'll keep an eye on your talk page and if more vandalism continues I'll temporarily protect it. --Ferien2 (talk) 11:57, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ferien: Thank you Ferien, I panic quite easily when a page is vandalised a lot in a short amount of time! Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 08:25, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Hockeycatcat: It's understandable, that editor can be frustrating. --Ferien (talk) 19:09, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @Hockeycatcat It might be better to post at WP:AN that way any admin can help you. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 04:03, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb: Sorry, I will do that next time. I went straight to Ferien as I see them as a trusted person. Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 08:38, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Hockeycatcat I don’t know about that. I mean he did get admin then took a 2 week holiday lol! Yeah usually you can get a pretty fast response by posting on the admin board and the vip board WP:VIP. Or just post a couple hundred times like the bot did about him not signing lol PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 08:41, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Hockeycatcat: It's ok to post protection requests to my talk page, just you'll likely get a quicker response on AN. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 08:41, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Looks like you've got a copycat

Nothing too important, but this gave me a little bit of a laugh. SHB2000 (talk) 13:35, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

SHB2000, maybe they are trying to avoid being caught if they want to do something unacceptable, to the wiki. Not sure though. ~ Hulged (talk) 13:38, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Copycats on userpages aren't unusual though. Often newbies copy my English Wikivoyage page all the time/ SHB2000 (talk) 13:40, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, interesting. The only other time someone ever copied my user page was when a user was copying everything – and I mean everything – I did on this Wikipedia. Editing the exact same pages as/doing similar work to me, from my first edit... --Ferien (talk) 19:30, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

lol. last time I ever used a CD was in 2011, about 10 years ago. But this is the tool that autosigns messages. For the most part, Spotify does most of my job in what CD's used to do. SHB2000 (talk) 04:20, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It’s called DiscussionTools. CD and DT are not compatible. I like discussion tools for what I need and it hasn’t failed me. It’s in your settings I think under gadgets or beta. Look what I found

This is not an actual notice to Ferien, it is an example of a template I found

This is the only warning you will get. Your vandalism will not be allowed on Wikipedia. Although vandalizing articles on occasions that are days or weeks apart from each other sometimes stops editors from being blocked, your continued vandalism shows a long term pattern of abuse. The next time you vandalize a page, you may be blocked from changing Wikipedia without any more warnings. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? Substing on user talk pages

I am not saying not to do it, but I just wanted to make you aware that you are triggering notifications/emails to every person whose talk page you subst on. It is why most of these templates have never been gone through and subst'ed on user talk pages. So that we don't annoy the people with unnecessary notifications. Just something to consider while you are are doing it to many many users. -Djsasso (talk) 11:47, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I understand. If an actual bot did it, would there still be notifications? If not, a bot might be a better way to do that. --Ferien (talk) 11:49, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure. I will test that in a second with my bot account. -Djsasso (talk) 11:53, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't with a bot, but now I am wondering if it doesn't with a flood flag. I assumed it did, but maybe I was wrong. I will test that as well. -Djsasso (talk) 11:57, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Actually I obviously can't test on myself. Could you subst the welcome on my talk page. -Djsasso (talk) 11:58, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Of course. I'll just readd the flood flag to myself --Ferien (talk) 11:59, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah still gives a notification on flood. Is it just welcome and unsigned that you have been substing? I could probably have my bot fly through them. -Djsasso (talk) 12:03, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It was just {{welcome}} I have been signing today, although I added unsigned templates to some of the unsigned ones. I've done about 3/4 of them. A few days ago I did {{welcome2}} and {{SharedIPAdvice}}. --Ferien (talk) 12:06, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Think I got all of them. -Djsasso (talk) 12:32, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. --Ferien (talk) 12:35, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ferien, I have noticed that the red link colour has changed. Is this normal, because I have noticed it on different browsers and I believe it is site-wide. demonstration12345. Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 10:16, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Why?

I QD' Girrafer's talk for a specific reason. See the RfD Discussion for Dc Themmie. Its an LTA spam and has an investigation for socks on en-wiki. I gave an adequate reason for qd in the reason part. Ely - Talk 12:46, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Elytrian, I can't delete pages just because it was created by a certain person. The page would have to meet the quick deletion criteria, which it did not. Giraffer can still remove the content from his talk page if he wishes to. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 12:51, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline

Saw your decline. The page about him is pretty close to a copy of the same page with an added word to the title. The only difference I mainly see is under achievements in which there are a lot more, otherwise the two are the same and they are the same person. Can it be deleted under duplicate page of the same subject? I feel that would be more appropriate. I was also under the impression it’s one article per RfD for searching and archiving as well as all directions use the singular article and not articles. Thanks! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 22:17, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb: Maybe you could redirect the page as it's a duplicate page? If the page was a redirected then it could get deleted after the RfD. And if it stayed as it is, unless I'm mistaken, it could be deleted under G4: It includes an identical or similar copy, with any title, of a page that was deleted, after being discussed in Requests for deletion. There's no QD criteria for a duplicate page, only if the original page was deleted, so I think the best thing to do here is wait for the RfD to end. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 10:05, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is it ok?

Is my last edit ok? Haoreima (talk) 06:35, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Haoreima, you just need to add another _ on each side. --Ferien (talk) 08:15, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
What is the significance of this? Haoreima (talk) 08:17, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: The NOINDEX will only work if you have two underscores before and two underscores after the NOINDEX text. --Ferien (talk) 08:29, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I mean, what will "NOINDEX" do for us? Haoreima (talk) 08:30, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Haoreima, it stops your page from being indexed by search engines. --Ferien (talk) 08:32, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Can I add this to user page as well as user talk page too? Haoreima (talk) 08:33, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Haoreima, yes. --Ferien (talk) 09:15, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Copyright

It’s a full on copy of what’s on there. That’s why I added the checker link. All the bold words are matched between both articles hence why I tagged it. Even if it has a license compatible it can’t be copied word for word (what trigged me was the amount of bolding which I was fixing) then I ran across a couple words which would never be in our articles and EN doesn’t have it either. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 19:59, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well, copying would not cause us copyright problems with that license.
Also, rereviewing my action, I noticed that on the page it says This article "Kamlesh K Mishra" is from Wikipedia. The list of its authors can be seen in its historical. Articles taken from Draft Namespace on Wikipedia could be accessed on Wikipedia's Draft Namespace., so it's not even copied from that website, it's copied from the English Wikipedia. --Ferien (talk) 20:05, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) It was also the same editor who created it on en.wiki so there is no attribution issues either. -Djsasso (talk) 20:12, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok so still a copy vio ;) I didn’t see the en wiki one. The en wiki is probably copied from the same site PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 20:13, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Not a copy vio since its the same author, and the site you liked to in your QD had copied it from en.wiki so it is an acceptable article unless it is from some other page out there. But at this point I see no proof of that. -Djsasso (talk) 20:16, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
There is one section very close to copyright as the paraphrasing is almost the same. You can see the comments on the EN draft. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 05:34, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's even longer than the enwiki article :P
It's much simpler though, and intros tend to be more summary-like on enwiki. --Ferien (talk) 18:02, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
@PotsdamLamb I had a look some of the longest pages at Special:LongPages, and it seems none has such a long intro, although it seems that "Bird" is only the 526th longest article. SHB2000 (talk) 06:58, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
