Open Proxies
changeHow do you know when an IP is an open proxy? Thanks, SwirlBoy39 18:54, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Usually, it is extremely easy to identify them, as when you search for them on Google, they show up in lists of anonymous / open proxies. Other times, you have to look them up through a proxy checker, which tries the access the proxy on a given port, usually 80 or 8080. Example service. - How do you know the port? The link needs a port. SwirlBoy39 19:21, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's usually 80 or 8080 (HTTP/S). You would put the name in like 127.0.0.1:80. BTW, if you are looking up Special:Contributions/195.189.142.234, he doesn't appear to be a standard proxy. I think he's behind a kind of proxy for mobile devices like cellphones. Inclusive disjunction (talk) 19:25, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

American Writers?
changeJust before you go on changing, please think about the following: Is Gabriel García Márquez (Nobel prize ofr Literature, 1982, I think; from Colombia, an American Writer? - Do we want him to be one, rather than one from Colombia? - Thanks. --Eptalon (talk) 15:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Probably not, but many other categories already follow the "American <occupation>" semantic. I would agree that it might be a little ambiguous, but to my knowledge, no one was ever "proud to be a resident of one of two continents with 'America' in the name." Perhaps American Eagle should change his name to "United States of American Eagle." But then that would look like an association of American Eagle stores as a sovereign country. An editor has requested deletion of List of Muslims, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2017/List of Muslims and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 05:49, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
Linux
changeWhich Linux do you use? ;) Tsugaru let's talk! :) 04:35, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- I currently use Lubuntu on my main system. I use or maintain systems with other distributions, including Linux Mint, Alpine, and LibreELEC. inclusive_disjunction (talk) 04:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Very cool! I used to run Mint. However, after getting my new gaming laptop, Mint does not run very well on it, so I am back to Windows lol. Tsugaru let's talk! :) 02:58, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
