Ambox

Thank you for importing the CSS style sheets and template!

But as I pointed out, {{{text}}} was replaced with {{{issue}}} and {{{fix}}}. The templates need to be customised can be found in this category. Can you give me a flood flag, so I can fix them? --intforce.aka.weltforce 09:00, 1 September 2012 (UTC) PS: I finished the twinkle QD tool, currently working on the RfD module.Reply

You can, but there's a bit more to it than that. A few months ago, I made an effort to synchronise the stand-alone templates with {{issues}} and I haven't completed it yet. You can change {{{text}}} to {{{issue}}} and {{{fix}}}, but I'll need to do some more work before you can make any changes to {{issues}}. Osiris (talk) 09:12, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, I see them. There are new parameters in the new ambox (subst, cat, class etc). I will change them too. Is that ok? --intforce.aka.weltforce 09:33, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I guess so. As long as the output is the same. Osiris (talk) 09:50, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Shall I request a flood flag? It's like ~100 pages to edit. Thanks --intforce.aka.weltforce 10:11, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Nah, you can just go ahead and do it. I also wouldn't bother with all of them... some of them like {{PW time}} and all the "future somethings" I've had my eye on for deletion for quite some time. Osiris (talk) 10:13, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Let me know when you're done, and I'll move {{article issues}} (the new version) over {{articleissues}} (the old one) and then histmerge them. Osiris (talk) 15:51, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

All right! --intforce.aka.weltforce 15:18, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Whisperback

Hello. You have a new message at Wikipedia:Simple talk.

Thanks! --intforce.aka.weltforce 15:18, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

TDKR and attribution

I'm leaving this note here since you've already given TDKR a helpful message about copyright and attribution. I've left messages also. TDKR just isn't listening and has continued to create new articles based on En without attribution. I wonder what will get TDKR's attention? At some point soon, it seems a 24 hour block might be needed to make clear that attribution is important. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 21:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Okay, thanks. I'll keep an eye on it. Osiris (talk) 05:18, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
To add to this mess, I noticed he was autopatrolled tonight. A bit of looking and see he was given the user right the very first day he started editing here. Things have been a little screwy with patrolling lately and this is just one more example. --Tbennert (talk) 05:41, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I flagged TDKR as autopatrolled after he started to reference his BLPs, but that was only about two weeks ago. He's been editing since 20 July. Although... I see that might have been premature now, considering the issues with copying and pasting and copyrights. Osiris (talk) 10:44, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

On the users with patrol rights page it says: TDKR Chicago 101 (talk | changes)‏‎ (patroller) (Created on 23 July 2012 at 20:58). I thought that was the day he started (I plead sleepiness) but still this shows only 3 days later he was given the user right. --Tbennert (talk) 02:41, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

TDKR just isn't listening. Time for a short block to get the editor's attention? Every article is a copyright problem. Lots to clean up here. Better to stop while we are still in the low hundreds. Gotanda (talk) 07:20, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for you're work on my articles that I created. Once again Thank You SO Much for the permant links advice. Once again Thanks!!!!!!! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) - September 8, 2012
Hi this is the TDKR I just get it and thank you for the help!!!!!!!. But I have a small question. Where do you find the oldid number, I can't find it. And please don't block me this is the only fun wikipedia that I understand. So please write back. And WHERE TO YOU FIND THE OLDID NUMBER! from TDKR Chicago 101. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TDKR Chicago 101 (talkcontribs) 00:08, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's the date the account was created. I flagged him as autopatrolled on 20 August, but I think I'll undo that now. Considering the issues with copying, I think it would be better to have his new pages patrolled at least for the moment. Thanks for explaining the attribution thing to him. Looks like it's being done properly now. Osiris (talk) 06:14, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Articleissues

I see that you've transwikied the English Wikipedia's template unter {{articleissues}}. It works very well, for example see this. Shall I update the Twinkle script so it uses articleissues instead of "article issues"? Or is that only temporarily?

And I've finished the Category:Message boxes with errors now (I used AWB at the end, after I figured out how to do the fixes with it) ;-) --intforce (talk) 23:11, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's under "article issues" now, so you can keep the space. Nice work on the amboxes! Does this mean we're finished with this task? Osiris (talk) 10:48, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh! I just have to redo the /doc page for this. Osiris (talk) 11:05, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, we are finished, but following templates are fully protected:
Maybe we just should copy the source from Main English WP. --intforce (talk) 11:37, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Those are just calling {{mbox}}, which you can edit yourself. I would be very careful, though, because the parameters used there are shared by all message-box templates. Osiris (talk) 17:50, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've added the name parameter to mbox, this 2 pages need them ;) Please add it to them (fully protected) --intforce (talk) 17:59, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I added it to {{pp-protected}}. However... it wasn't in the error category before, but it is now that I've added that parameter. I noticed the same thing occurred when you added it to {{pp-move}}. Looking at the ambox code, it looks like it forces templates using the |name= parameter to also use the |subst=, |issue= and |fix= parameters. But these protection templates wouldn't use those parameters anyway because {{pp-meta}} doesn't need them. The only function that |name= seems to have is to check for substitution. It looks like it was added for maintenance tags, rather than all article message box types. Osiris (talk) 06:34, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

new cleanup cats from past years

As of the last scan, there are a bunch of new redlinked categories from past years and months. Take a look at Special:WantedCategories to see them. Did we import a bunch of articles? Did the categories exist and someone deleted them? It's a mystery! --Auntof6 (talk) 12:35, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Intforce updated the maintenance tag templates and he had some trouble with categorisations (mostly typos). I thought I'd got to them all, but looks like I missed a few. Osiris (talk) 00:34, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
*headdesk* That looks like it's going to be annoying for you. Sorry about that, hopefully it'll get updated soon. On a positive note: that list looks much shorter than I remember...   Osiris (talk) 00:44, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
No problem -- just wanted it on your radar. And yes, the list is shorter! There used to be over 2000 wanted categories (I didn't note the exact number when I started working on them). One main reason I work on those is that on so many articles, all the categories are redlinked! I don't expect the list to ever be zero, but it can be better than it is. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:50, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nelson Mandela article

Hello, are my contributions to the Nelson Mandela article OK? --RJR3333 (talk) 22:05, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

They look great! I just did a bit of a copy edit. Osiris (talk) 23:10, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Was there anything wrong with the sourced correction I made that he was imprison for being a terrorist, not simply for opposing apartheid. I mean does what I stated in the article about him being a terrorist violate NPOV?--RJR3333 (talk) 00:02, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. Is there a quote from the source? What was he officially charged with? Osiris (talk) 00:23, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
The quote is "The ANC was created in 1912 and turned to terrorism in the 1960s. ANC leader Nelson Mandela, imprisoned for terrorist acts from 1964 to 1990, was elected South Africa's first president following the end of apartheid". It is on page 33 of the book How Terrorist Groups End: Lessons for Countering al-Quaida by Seth G. Jones and Martin C. Libicki. I believe he was charged with over 200 acts of sabotage and terrorism if I remember correctly but I will try to verify this with a source. --RJR3333 (talk) 00:35, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Here is a link to the indictment http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/mandela/indictment.html. The primary charge seems to be conspiracy to commit sabotage. Mention is made of Mandela and his ANC allies trying to undermine law and order and threatening the "health or safety of the public". --RJR3333 (talk) 01:04, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Then I would rephrase what you've written with a closer eye on language of the indictment. Terrorism seems to be a word that is thrown around a lot, and unless he was officially convicted of "terrorism", it might not be appropriate to say he was. Osiris (talk) 01:40, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I replaced "terrorism" with "sabotage and violence" as those were formal charges laid against him. My pointing in adding the charges was to show that he was not a peaceful person who being sent to prison simply for opposing apartheid, he used violence to achieve his methods, as the sources show. The way the article made it look, he was simply an innocent victim of South Africa's racist government's persecution of him who was only imprison for protesting against apartheid, and that is not true. --RJR3333 (talk) 02:52, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Looks fine to me. Osiris (talk) 02:53, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Aryan race

What do you think of my edits to the article about the Aryan race?--RJR3333 (talk) 04:34, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I was a bit thrown off by this bit. Perhaps that could be put into a section of its own titled Theosophy, and beginning with "Theosophists say..."? When I began reading, "The Aryan race is the most supernatural race of humanity", I was a bit thrown off. It's not something I would expect to read before I read about the anthropological and archaeological side of things. Just a suggestion though. Osiris (talk) 04:53, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
That stuff has been changed by someone else. And I decided to take out calling Aryans "the most supernatural race of humanity" according to Theosophy because I didn't have the specific references. --RJR3333 (talk) 20:55, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Solipsism article

What do you think of my edits to the solipsism article?--RJR3333 (talk) 22:06, 22 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

It could be a bit simpler. For such a complex subject, links to other pages could also help. Osiris (talk) 07:38, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Was adding the pipelinks to explanations of complex terms such as metaphysics and epistemology sufficient or do I need to define the words in the article? --RJR3333 (talk) 08:02, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Caucasian race

Hello Osiris. I made some changes to the Caucasian race article. I know that its definition of Caucasian was incorrect so I changed it. It said that a Caucasian means a person with a white or pale skin. That is not correct, Caucasian refers to a racial group that includes people, not only of European ancestry, but descended from the peoples of North Africa, the Horn of Africa, parts of Asia such as India, and Middle Eastern peoples such as the Arabians and the Jews. All of the aforementioned peoples I have mentioned are dark skinned, but they are considered Caucasians. However, I could not find a source for my change. Could you help me to find a source or direct me to an editor that can? The regular English wikipedia gave my definition of Caucasian, not the one that existed on simple English wikipedia before, and I am pretty certain that regular English wikipedia was correct in this case. However, do you disagree with my changes? If you do agree with me, could you help me find a source?--RJR3333 (talk) 06:33, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

There's no single "correct" defintion as far as I'm aware. Specific definitions have changed over time, and most of them have little or no connection with genetics or modern ethnological theories. Blumenbach's "colour-coded" classifications are widely considered debunked (and racist) nowadays. The grouping I think you're referred to is Carleton Coon's theory -- but, it's just a theory, and there were others using the term "Caucasian" in different senses. Since it's not an actual race as far as modern studies are concerned, the article should just describe the history of the term's usage. The most common current usage, I think, probably corresponds to "White people". Osiris (talk) 07:38, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think that box is just for users who watch recent changes and revert vandalism. Like yourself. You don't have to have the patroller permission to patrol recent changes. Does that make sense? Osiris (talk) 07:56, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes,i always patroll pages and revert vandalism, but you can't patroll new pages without being a patroller.I will put the userbox on my userpage. When i become a rollback i will add the rollbacker one. Thanks for your help and sorry for disturbing you on a week-end.Receptie123 (talk) 07:57, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unref BLP tag question

Did you do this to avoid having to create a category for just one article? Just curious. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 10:20, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah. Seemed like less effort. Osiris (talk) 03:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
On your related question about my estimate on simple talk, yeah it was based on the tracking categories. I guess the majority of them are notable, but some of them I've seen make me wish we had a PROD process implemented here. Osiris (talk) 03:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Any reason we can't create such a process? --Auntof6 (talk) 16:23, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, please -- good idea. It would have been far easier to put a PROD tag on the first forty articles of Nameless User and Japan Football. Is it not likely that this action would have produced a few immediate and constructive changes in their stub creation process? --Horeki (talk) 17:15, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

RFD Notice

Please review Wikipedia:Requests for deletion#Notifying the User.

Is there a problem with {{RFDNote}}?

In this section, does the template need to be replaced with {{subst:rFDNote}} instead of {{rFDNote}}? I don't understand this, but perhaps you will know what to do, if anything? Perhaps this is a non-issue? --Horeki (talk) 17:39, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Maybe this is better: {{subst:RFDNote|<page to be deleted>}} ~~~~ --@intforce 18:23, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, you have to add subst: in front. But it only produces the name of one article; when you want to notify them about multiple articles, the only way to do it is the way you did it. Does this answer your question? Osiris (talk) 06:02, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thank you. --Horeki (talk) 22:03, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
