Hi, Football Japan. I notice you've made a lot of new pages for Japanese football players. But, they are very, very short. We already have thousands of stub articles like this for football players made by User_talk:Nameless_User. Can you please include more information when creating new articles? Also, if you could help clean up Nameless User's stubs, it would be very helpful. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 14:02, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Update: Also, please add the interwiki links to the Japanese language article for each player. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 23:00, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please compare your work with the article about Koji Nakajima‎.

Do you know about the {{enwp based|url= ...}} template? It was used to create the short explanation at Talk:Koji Nakajima‎?

Perhaps you will notice some small differences which are helpful. --Horeki (talk) 19:04, 27 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Continuing to just copy and paste from en will result in the pages being deleted and may also result in a block. So I would recommend you slow down on the copy and pasting. -DJSasso (talk) 12:50, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Think again

change

Please slow down. Think carefully.

WARNING: Each article you create causes a few problems. When you create so many articles with repeated problems, it is annoying.

For example, you created an article about Makoto Takeya. Your work was cut-and-paste from en:Makoto Takeya. You should add an explanation like the one I added for you at Talk:Makoto Takeya. Please see Template:Enwp based. If you do not do this, we wonder why not?

For context, compare Wikipedia:Simple talk#Moving articles in Simple English Wikipedia to English Wikipedia.

Please take a look at these small changes to what you wrote.

  3. diff 16:05, 5 March 2012‎ Horeki (-9)‎ . . fix mistake

Each of the articles you created today need more work. Do you not understand?

Perhaps it will help for you to look at Nozomu Kanaguchi and Talk:Nozomu Kanaguchi. What do you think? --Horeki (talk) 21:47, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please do something. Your cut-and-paste articles about these Mito Hollyhock players need clean up. --Horeki (talk) 21:47, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

You might be interested in WP:NOTSTATSBOOK. The 200-odd single-sentence "articles" you added today are pretty much a collection of player statistics. In addition, none of them contain attribution to their original authors. I suggest seriously considering the advice given to you by other editors above. If it were up to me, they'd all be deleted under G12. Osiris (talk) 22:08, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Japan Football,

Please use correct place names on this wiki. The style for places in Japan is very simple. Use Name Prefecture for the prefecture. Use City, Prefecture for a a city or town. For example, use Hokkaidō Prefecture, not Hokkaido. Use Shizuoka, Shizuoka, not Shizuoka City. Use Kanagawa Prefecture, not Kanagawa.

On this article, Tsuyoshi_Nakao, you linked Kagoshima. Kagoshima can be either a city--Kagoshima, Kagoshima--or, a prefecture, Kagoshima Prefecture.

Adding incorrect place names makes work for other editors and can be wrong information. It is disruptive. Please go back and correct your recent articles using specific place names according to the style. I would suggest making these corrections before adding any more new articles.

Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 23:02, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for going back and cleaning up the place names. But, these articles still need a lot of work. They are very, very short. I would suggest adding more information to each article. However, where does the information come from? You have to give proper references and attribution. For example, Hideyuki Imakura lists two references, but they are not notable sources, they are just fan blogs. Geocities and OCN blogs are not reliable sources. Also, the references you give do not seem to support the information in the article. You wrote that Hideyuki Imakura was born in Saitama Prefecture, but I don't see that in the references. Where do you get your information? And, please use better references such sports news sites or JFA websites, not personal blogs. Thanks, for the fixes so far, and please keep improving these articles. Gotanda (talk) 23:58, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I see that Gotanda mentions the article about Tsuyoshi Nakao. In it, the only cited source is the Ventforet Kofu team list in table format (in Japanese). I see that 出身 (Birth) is the far right column. This table only gives 鹿児島県 (Kagoshima Prefecture) as the place of birth for this player.

In our Wikipedia articles about people, we are usually more specific — compare Ken Watanabe infobox. Maybe the comparison is not good or valid? Maybe articles about athletes have special conventions -- compare Naoki Matsuda infobox?

Can you find another reliable source which helps answer the implied question?

Do you see how this one example suggests other questions about other articles in the array you copied from en:Wikipedia?

Please do your best. --Horeki (talk) 15:10, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I went through Category:Japanese footballers and in addition to separated the category by prefecture, I also changed most of the cases where the city name linked to just the name of the prefecture (ie. "Nara" was linked and should be "Nara Prefecture"). "Nagasaki", "Hiroshima" and "Okinawa" were skipped for these changes as the city article for those places are not under the normal format (City, Prefecture) so the link may be meant to be to the city itself. There may also be some odd spellings I missed (Shizuoka was spelled at least 3 different ways). --Creol(talk) 22:48, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Page moves

change

Hi there! You've probably noticed that some of your edits were reverted. There are two reasons for this:

  1. Copying and pasting from one page to another is not allowed. See Help:Moving a page, but I've seen you do it the proper way (using "move") so I know that you know how. If you can't move a page because the system won't let you, add the tag {{Moveto|TARGET}} to the talk page of the page you want to move
  2. Another editor objected to your renames. This was likely because you were simply removing the diacritics from the titles, and gave no explanation for it. This can be avoided in the future by using the {{Moveto|TARGET}} on the talk page to get a discussion going

I saw the other day that you went through and added attribution for all those articles you made, so a big thank you for that! :) If you have any questions, please leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Osiris (talk) 14:32, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

You might actually want to also put your reasoning on the talk page, not just the tag. -DJSasso (talk) 14:48, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Team/season articles

change

Hi Japan Football,

I notice you made articles for each season for many J League clubs in the early 1990s. These seem like just lists of statistics that are already on each player's article. Do you plan to add some information besides just lists of statistics? I look forward to your reply here.

Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 11:59, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you are just mass copying many articles which only contain stats they may very well end up getting deleted unless you write some prose about each of these teams seasons. -DJSasso (talk) 13:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I echo Gotanda who asks good questions. I wonder about your reply?

IMO, it is easy to explain and defend articles about Japanese football teams and Japanese football players.

IMO, it is not easy to guess how to explain and justify articles about sport seasons? --Horeki (talk) 19:43, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I thought about nominating these for deletion (as DJ mentioned above), but wanted to ask you about them first. You did not reply, but instead mass created more articles that are only lists of statistics. I count 79 of these articles now. Please stop creating any more articles until you have a discussion about them with other editors. Gotanda (talk) 21:24, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please include at least one reference in articles about living people

You might not have known it, but it is Wikipedia policy that biographical articles about living people must have at least one reference that supports a fact in the article. This is for "References" in the body of the article.
This is for "Other websites" at the end of the article.

A Geocities fan page is not a reliable reference

change

Japan Football,

I see that you have added http://www.geocities.co.jp/Athlete-Sparta/2322/ as a reference to many of your article stubs. As I wrote above Geocities fan pages are not good references. They are written by just one person. They may change often or disappear without notice. Please see Wikipedia:RS#What_kind_of_sources_should_I_avoid.3F. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 23:49, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Update: I have undone most of your recent changes. You are just making work for other editors and disrupting this project. Please stop creating new stubs for football players until you can clean up your past stub articles by adding good references in the correct format. Horeki clearly showed you how to do that above. Also, please follow the Manual of Style. References and Other websites are different. This has been explained to you. I have corrected many of them, so you have some good examples. Stop adding{{reflist}} when there are no references and do not place it under ==Other websites==. If you do that, when other editors add references in the future, they will appear in the wrong place. Stop adding ==Other websites== when there are no other websites.
Do start communicating with other editors. Please reply to comments or requests instead of just making dozens or even hundreds of edits that are not helpful. Gotanda (talk) 00:55, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism Problem on Fiji Hindi

change

Because of similar disruptive behavior on the Fiji Hindi wiki, I have asked for a global block here. The block may not be approved, but it is worth noting that this user is disruptive elsewhere as well. I call it vandalism in that case because the articles are not in the language of that wiki. JF replied in Japanese on the Fiji Hindi wiki, but seems not to understand the problems with the edits. See the linked request for details. Gotanda (talk) 00:24, 30 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

COMMENT: Gotanda -- In my opinion, the word "vandalism" is not justified. A quick review of Wikipedia:Vandalism shows no relationship between our problem and this judgment label. I hope you will agree with me. --Horeki (talk) 23:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any move causes questions. For example, the Fumagalli change was not good may not be best because he is not the only professional football player with this name. Please compare
