Movie release dates
I noticed you removing lists of release dates from movie articles, for example in this edit. Is it documented anywhere that we can/should do that? I would support removing them because I don't think they really help the article (people can look on IMDB if they really want that info) and those dates probably attract vandalism, but I don't know of anywhere that says not to include such lists. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:06, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: the movie release dates don't help the article, as you say, but the main reason why I removed in these edits was because it was an editor who kept adding wrong information to articles, so also likely vandalism on its own. In searching a bit more about this, I found w:WP:FILMRELEASE which redirects to the film infobox on en. While it mainly applies to release dates in the infobox, it does point out how release dates should be presented in articles –
If other release dates are found to be notable, it may be appropriate to include them in the main body of the article (example).

Please be bold and help translate this article! The women's page (sometimes called home page or women's section) of a newspaper was a section devoted to covering news assumed to be of interest to women. Women's pages started out in the 19th century as society pages and eventually morphed into features sections in the 1970s. Although denigrated during much of that period, they had a significant impact on journalism and in their communities. Dear administrator
Thanks for all the good work you did for Simple Wikipedia. I created the page Cemal Polat someone put the deletion tag speedy one, I challenge it and showed the notability, before showing the notability the member of this Wikipedia name Macdonald-ross deleted the page, as per Wikipedia policy speedy deletion can be only done if it is spam, advertisement or the pages that have shown not notability. The member of this Wikipedia Macdonald undeleted the page. I added more good references and then came and deleted the page for advertising.
As you're an administrator here please see the page history none of the text were advertisement, spam or anything that has shown COI or I am paid to edit. I request you to undelete the page and see for yourself. I had added 18 references that are secondary and primary newspapers, notable news websites, and tv channels. The page passed the notability of the person as per WP:GNG WP:AUTHOR WP:BIO. I have seen many pages that have 2-3 references but have not been deleted.
I wanted to let you know that I am not connected with the person, I am an IP editor and using Wikipedia for 10 years. I have created 1700 Wikipedia pages for politicians, authors, businessman's and government.
~~~~ 39.34.176.115 (talk) 17:55, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- I would agree with Macdonald-ross' actions. The article does not appear to show notability. I also question the validity of the relatively minor claims, because the article claimed he has a
Business Degree University of Herefordshire 2009
. Herefordshire doesn't have a university, so that is false. Searching for references online, I can barely find any. --Ferien (talk) 20:46, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Ferien So you cannot find the references for that person online? right? Here we go; if you say they are not references I will be amazed to see how Wikipedia have lots of pages then? We are discussing here WP:RESTAURANTREVIEWS WP:SIRS WP:ORGDEPTH I have also seen WP:ORGIND as per many UK news outlets. Let's discuss one by one, and don't forget to check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(organizations_and_companies)
- Hamhigh is UK news outlet has in depth coverage about him and his cafe "215 Hackney" Hackney restaurants and residents ‘step up’ as government ‘fails’ to deliver free school meals during half term | Ham & High (hamhigh.co.uk)
- Hackney Gazette has named his restaurant favorite as 215 Hackney won lots of food chain awards that is own by Cemal Polat so technically, he has passed the general notability Stoke Newington eatery voted favourite café by Gazette readers | Hackney Gazette
- Pakistan's 4th largest English newspaper has published him in Digital Newspaper (Print) and online about his books https://dailytimes.com.pk/1068223/strategic-planning-for-beginners-lessons-from-cemal-polats-best-selling-book/
- London World has named top 5 coffee shop in London as per Trip Advisor review, his restaurant 'Drury 188-189' has ranked 3rd in all of the London International Coffee Day: Top London coffee shops, according to Tripadvisor | LondonWorld
- I have 20 more news references that are different from this, They're in Turkish, Urdu, English and have clearly showing that the person has wrote two books, he own's cafe business, his restaurants are in top 5 in London, he has won 1-2 more ranking. Primary criteria are already passwed WP:SIRS if we look clearly WP:ORGDEPTH is cleary seen as per this.
- A scholarly article, a book passage, or ongoing media coverage focusing on a product or organization,
- Cemal Polat's Wiki article shows about restaurant chain and per WP:RESTAURANTREVIEWS it is clearly passing significant coverage in reliable and independent sources of UK news outlets. I would be happy if you challenge any of the said category notability 'Not Passing' and I'd be happy to share more references until you retract your claim of "No references found". 39.34.176.27 (talk) 08:37, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
I suggest you restore the page so I can make it more in-depth by removing some content. There are many pages on Simple Wikipedia who are not notable, but they're still not deleted because they are created by Wikipedia editors and the pages which were created by editors are never deleted. 39.34.176.100 (talk) 13:39, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Business Degree University of Herefordshire 2009, I Googled Cemal's education and found it from some website (I should remove that). Below are some more references in Turkish one's.
- Secondary references as an author:
- GNG is
If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be notable.
- Here are my thoughts on the sources you have shown, comparing them to see if they meet GNG:
- I would not say the first Ham & High source addresses the subject directly in detail. It is simply mentioned how Polat and the co-founder of 215 Hackney relied on school meals as a child and, if anything, is more of an interview than a source independent of the subject. It is just something he told the Gazette.
- This second Ham & High source is about how 215 Hackney has been rated the favourite cafe in Hackney by readers. The article mentions the founders, and Polat's statement on the cafe winning the award. I would not consider it significant coverage.
- This Dunya News source is certainly significant coverage, although with the way it's written, it feels promotional.
- This Hurriyet source is a brief interview with Polat. Per w:WP:INTERVIEW, I would not say this source contributes towards GNG.
- Again, this GQ Turkish source is an interview.
- The Rudaw source is significant, although again, I think this is more about the business as a whole than just Polat.
- The Sabah Turkey source is good, in terms of covering Polat in detail, however it looks to be an interview? (I don't speak Turkish, so can't say for certain.)
- The Hackney Gazette is basically the same as the second Ham & High source. I imagine it is owned by the same company, there are lots of cases in local UK newspapers where the same articles are reposted, or automatically reposted, to other newspapers it may be relevant to.
- This Daily Times one is a review, so I am following w:WP:PRODUCTREV.
Reviews that are too generic or vague to make the determination whether the author had personal experience with the reviewed product are not to be counted as significant sources.
The review goes into a reasonable amount of detail about Polat, however as a review, it doesn't seem to address the book, more his life as a whole. - Same as above, just in the paper.
- With the London World "top 5 coffee shops", this covers one of his coffee shops but Polat is not mentioned.
- Goodreads is not a reliable source, per w:WP:GOODREADS.
- The MM News source addresses him, but again, feels a little promotional.
- With the Google News source, yes, this isn't a source independent of the subject.
- I'm not sure what this source from Marmara is meant to be. It is a fairly small article based off of one or two things that Polat has said, from what I can see. Potentially an interview, but not sure?
- He is mentioned twice in a fairly long primary source (YEE), I wouldn't call this significant coverage.
- The ZEE5 source feels a little promotional/like an interview.
- I want to see more of this source before making a decision on it. I can see he is on the front cover, but I want to see the inside.
- This Emea Tribune source covers him in detail, but feels promotional, by asking readers to follow his Instagram at the end.
- Overall, I would still say that most of the coverage is about his restaurants, more than him specifically, and the sources about him often feel promotional or are interviews. I hope this helps. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 12:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
Recent changes
- As part of the changes for the better diff handling of paragraph splits, improved detection of splits is being rolled out. Over the last two weeks, we deployed this support to group0 and group1 wikis. This week it will be deployed to group2 wikis. [22]
- All Special:Contributions pages now show the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. [23]
- Wikisource users can now use the
prpbengalicurrency
label to denote Bengali currency characters as page numbers inside the<pagelist>
tag. [24] - Two preferences have been relocated. The preference "Enable the visual editor" is now shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis. Previously it was shown on the "Beta features" tab at some wikis. The preference "Use the wikitext mode inside the visual editor, instead of a different wikitext editor" is now also shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis, instead of the "Beta features" tab. [25][26]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).
- New signups for a Wikimedia developer account will start being pushed towards idm.wikimedia.org, rather than going via Wikitech. Further information about the new system is available.
- All right-to-left language wikis, plus Korean, Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, and Bulgarian Wikipedias, will have a link in the sidebar that provides a short URL of that page, using the Wikimedia URL Shortener. This feature will come to more wikis in future weeks. [27]
Future changes
- The removal of the DoubleWiki extension is being discussed. This extension currently allows Wikisource users to view articles from multiple language versions side by side when the
<=>
symbol next to a specific language edition is selected. Comments on this are welcomed at the phabricator task. - A proposal has been made to merge the second hidden-categories list (which appears below the wikitext editing form) with the main list of categories (which is further down the page). More information is available on Phabricator; feedback is welcome!
Could you mass delete pages made by 2600:1009:B02B:470E:DD31:903E:658E:3AB4 as they appear disruptive? Thank you. signed, 64andtim (chat) 17:55, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
hello
I'm back (for now), what'd I miss since may? Derpdart56 (talk) 19:57, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Derpdart56, how's it going? I can't think of anything off the top of my head that you've missed, but I'll get back to you if I remember anything :) --Ferien (talk) 19:58, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- Decently, I was gone for a bit and noticed some of the video game articles were out of tune so I fixed them up and made some new ones. Derpdart56 (talk) 19:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
