Welcome to my talk page.

Selective restoration change

I have done a selective restoration on your talk page to get rid of the link that was added by a vandal to your talk page. The link was to a website that had personal information of everybody's favorite KMcA on it. Cheers, PTO 23:21, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE: block of Rubbersoul20 from wikipedia..... change

Hello there, this is Rubbersoul20, a user you recently "Blocked" from Wikipedia. I'm just letting you know that I DID IN FACT remove the missing reference tags but--and this point is very important--I INSERTED REFERENCES in their place. If you take a look at the section I edited you will notice this......What do you mean "do not add large blocks of text"? Why not?.....I doubt that one would have to recur to the "talk page" simply in order remove "missing reference tags" and add references to a paragraph. I for one think such a course of action is unwarranted.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Rock music change

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Fell on Black Days (talk) 19:54, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

User privileges removal discussion change

Hello Ricky81682. In the interests of keeping out admin list somewhat accurate and active, we've asked for your rights on Simple to be withdrawn here. This is not a reflection on you, or your prior work here, which we all appreciate. If you decide to rejoin the project in the future, please feel free to ask for your administrator privileges back, or perform some administrative acions before the closure date. Hope to see you back soon. All the best, PeterSymonds (talk) 17:44, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

February 2018 change

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Former countries in Southeast Asia. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 16:41, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Former countries in Central Asia. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created.   Welcome to Wikipedia. You might not have done it on purpose, but your recent change removed helpful information from Wikipedia. We ask that you do not remove things from pages, as you did to "Category:2017 by country", without giving a good reason in the change summary. If it was a mistake, do not worry. The part of the article you removed has been put back. If you want to try things out, please use the sandbox. If you would like to learn how to help Wikipedia, please see the welcome page. Thank you. There is no apparent reason for removing Category:Categories by country. Auntof6 (talk) 16:51, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

March 2018 change

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:2011 by country. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 15:33, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks! I won't create them in the future until there's enough pages. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:03, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I see you've created some establishment categories for US states that have fewer than three entries. An example is Category:Establishments in Alabama. Are you planning to populate those soon?
One other note about establishment and disestablishment categories for locations: they can go under history of the location if a history category exists. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:49, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm populating them downward, see Category:1830s establishments in the United States and then upward. It won't be hard to find Alabama stuff for the 20th century but the older ones I'm making sure to populate before splitting. I've generally commented out the history cats as I don't think a lot exist but I'll check those. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:56, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
Do you think you could populate the older categories you created before you create more? I can understand that the categories for one location could be under construction, but new categories for unrelated locations keep getting created. I've been holding off tagging them with {{popcat}} because you said you were working with them. Once they get tagged, there's a limit on how long they can stay if they have fewer than three entries. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:16, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Auntof6. Yes, that's fair. Sorry about that. I will also put them into a "History of" subcategory if that's appropriate. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 02:36, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Oh, wow, that's helpful. I'll go through these one by one then. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 03:32, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Going forward, please try not to create a category unless there are already three things to put into it. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:41, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I will focus on these right now and prepare it that way. Sorry. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 03:43, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Auntof6 Do you think some of the disestablishments categories like in Category:7th century disestablishments, Category:9th century disestablishments and some others should be merged together? Maybe they should listed for deletion? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:10, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think the ones that don't specify locations could stay, even if they have fewer than three entries. It's when we start breaking them down by finer detail that I don't think we need the underpopulated categories. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:21, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rights added... change

Hello Ricky81682, It is good to see you are back and contribute actively. I have added you to the autopatrolled and rollbacker groups, as a former admin I think you konw how to use these tools. All the best, and thanks for the good work. --Eptalon (talk) 08:06, 19 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:27, 20 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

New categories change

I noticed that you're still creating some categories with fewer than three entries in them. Examples are Category:1954 establishments in Canada, Category:Establishments in Lebanon, and Category:1980s establishments in Iran. Ideally these shouldn't be created, but if you create them anyway, please be sure to put a {{popcat}} template on them. If you don't feel you can do that, then I can remove your autopatroller right so that others can patrol the categories to make sure they have enough entries. Let me know. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:27, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'll do that. I could have sworn those were supposed to have three each but let me double check everything. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:18, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Just know that if they don't get three entries, they might still get deleted later. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:03, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'll focus on adding to those as well or upmerging them so it's not an issue. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:04, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
I notice that you're now adding categories to pages without creating the categories, which leaves them redlinked. I know that we have a rule not to create categories with fewer than three entries, but that doesn't mean they should be added as redlinked categories. Doing that is causing Special:WantedCategories to fill up. Please don't put redlinked categories on a page unless you're about to create the categories (like within a few minutes). Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:58, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Auntof6 Is that really a problem? I was using it and wantedcategories to see which pages were needed and then creating them (once I see them at 2 items). But you've been here longer and since you feel otherwise, then I'll comment out the red categories right away. Sorry about that. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:00, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Whether it's a problem depends on your point of view. From my point of view, it's a problem, partly because the redlinked categories can't be found by standard category navigation, and partly because it makes it harder to monitor wanted categories for other things. And by the way, in most cases you should be waiting for three items before creating the categories. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:14, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I see. I'm commenting them out right now and of course, waiting for three items. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:16, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:56, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Great to see you active here again, but I can't help but wonder if you are starting to over categorize. I don't know what categorization was like when you were last active here, its been awhile, but we try to keep our categorization stucture as simple as possible. We don't replicate all the branches of categories that en.wiki has for example. I noticed a tonne of edits like this one where you added all kinds of categories that weren't really necessary beyond the ones that were already there. We don't need every possible combination year. And in this particular example you even included a parent category (1930) when the article is already in a subcategory (1930 in ice hockey) which is definitely something we don't do. -DJSasso (talk) 12:19, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

You're right. I'm going a bit overboard. And I shouldn't be including both, that's a rule across the project. Ricky81682 (talk) 15:22, 14 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Categories for England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland change

Hi, Ricky. I noticed that you put some establishment categories for these places into "by country" categories (for example Category:20th century establishments in Scotland and Category:1990s establishments in England). England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are part of the United Kingdom, not sovereign countries on their own, so they do not go directly into "by country" categories. Please don't continue putting them there, and remove any others that you may have put there. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:49, 1 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Auntof6, I saw that English had it as a separate country but I'll take them out (Commons does not). However, is it ok for pre-UK categories (when it was a separate country) or should those all be put into a UK category even though the UK didn't exist then? I mean, it is defined as Countries of the United Kingdom. Then would something like Category:1999 in England not be in any 1999 category? I don't think putting it in 1999 main makes sense but country does not. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:47, 2 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it's OK for time periods before each part joined the UK. In current times, England and the rest are sometimes called "constituent countries", but they aren't sovereign countries so they're categorized under the UK instead of separately.
Category:1999 in England would normally go under Category:1999 in the United Kingdom. Since that doesn't exist, you could put it in Category:1990s in the United Kingdom, or just create the redlinked cat even though it will only have one entry for now. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:24, 2 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ok, that makes sense. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:25, 2 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

changing categories change

Hey Ricky! What's the reason for changing categories on certain pages?

Example: Hurricane Bob had its category changed.

Angela Maureen (talk) 01:10, 5 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Angela, I'm adding new and more specific categories. The hurricane for example hit specific states and Canada so I started with 1991 in the US, some more details and so on. Now, we have the event more clearly identified in Category:1990s in North Carolina so that Category:History of the United States by state is more fleshed out. I admit I can be a little nutty :) -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:15, 5 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) Just be sure not to leave categories that are parents of other categories on the same page. For an example of what I mean, see the two cats I just removed from Hurricane Bob. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:23, 5 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
One of those isn't mine :) But you're right, keep parents and children separate. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:26, 5 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Question change

I noticed this edit you made to Yangon, because it added the page to Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. I'm curious what you were trying to do with the ISBN part of that change. You added an ISBN parameter right next to an existing ISBN parameter. If you were trying to include both the 10-digit and 13-digit forms of the ISBN, maybe you didn't know that there can only be one ISBN parameter (and the 13-digit form should be used if known). If you just overlooked that there was already a parameter, don't worry: I removed the old one. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:43, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Auntof6 I was trying to fix the ISBN error created here. I thought I had fixed the two ISBN problem but I see I created another error. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:45, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
I see. If you see one like that again, just remove the 10-digit one and keep the 13-digit one. If they're both the same length, just keep one. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:50, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

RfD nomination of Category:Disestablishments in Brazil change

An editor has requested deletion of Category:Disestablishments in Brazil, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2022/Category:Disestablishments in Brazil and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 09:15, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
