Was what I did in dedicating an article in your name new to you? afterall, you've been working for what, 1 month and...14 days?

That first change was a bit cynical that I made. I had just found this place, and kind of had a negative attitude about it. How did you have time to read it, and send a witty message back to me right after I changed it? I mean, don't you have other areas to patrol as well?

By th way, I wouldn't have time to edit and stuff. I'm about to start my junior year of highschool, with AP classes and everything. How old are you and where did you go to school?

Now that you have my IP adress, does this mean that anything that I change (for the good, of course) on this website can be seen by you, and be identified as a change I made?

I guess I didn't phrase my question clearly. I was asking if the administrators and editors can identify "me". Like, for example, could You(being RyanCross, not the whole group of what you call Wikignomes) identify that I just made a spelling fix on The Simpsons Web page?

Alright then! what are the + and - numbers for? So, I got +1 for changing the Simpsons Article thingy. What do I win?

K thanks.

Main Page

I would like to offer a few comments for the new main page design. I feel that its great, even better than the EN Wikipedia one. Still, I think you shouldn't centralize all the words in the introduction and selected article boxes. There's also quite a lot of extra space not filled up. That's all for now, just comments anyway, might not be everyone's feelings. Minor Contributer (talk) 09:40, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, thanks for the advice and suggestions. By the way, we also have this and this. -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 09:50, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Dark Knight

Languages can be pretty narly stuff, Ryan. Sometimes it looks outright awful, but when you click...something is there. MediaWiki apparently doesn't parse the stuff well in diffs. That IP added a link to th:เดอะ_ดาร์ก_ไนท์_อัศวินรัตติกาล, which as you can see is a legitimate article. Cassandra 01:02, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hehe, wow! That's good to know. :) I thought when the IP added "%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%AD...", to the article, s/he was just adding random characters. Who knew it was an interwiki? :P Anyway, thanks for the note Cassandra. Your doing better than I thought. ;) By the way, did you ever get a chance to have a close look at the Green Day article? I would like your opinions on it if you have the time. :) Oh yeah, and thanks for removing that broken reference and adding {{fact}}. I found a reference to replace that. -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 02:03, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rollback

How do I request rollback? Do you think I could get it based on what I did at en.wiki, or would I have to build up a significant history here? Enigmaman (talk) 08:03, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hehe, your sadly mistaken. There is no rollback here! :P It seems we have no need for it right now. 2 others and myself even requested it to be added, but it seems we don't need it now. :( Thanks, Ryan†Cross (talk) 08:04, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
So how are people reverting so quickly? They install Twinkle or something? I look at recent changes to see if I can help out by reverting any vandalism, but people do it much faster. Enigmaman (talk) 08:05, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
We do have popups which I use. Only administrators have rollback. There is no non-administrative rollback here. ;) -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 08:08, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

why do I keep getting reverted?

my legitimate edits to Simlish keep getting reverted by you. Why? I'm correcting the information on the page which is false in stating that Simlish is derived from real world languages, it is not. --81.158.147.41 (talk) 12:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you prove it with a reliable resource/reference? -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 12:55, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
[1] this source about the development of one of the expansion packs says that when the first game was being developed, "they wanted to use a language that couldn't be translated so that its meaning would be left up to the imagination of the player" and that to record it, they just show the character interaction animations to the voice artists who came up with Simlish phrases to match them. --81.158.147.41 (talk) 12:59, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah, well, it should have been sourced when you made the edit. That way, people now where it is coming from. Just add that source to the article and you'll be good. Thanks, Ryan†Cross (talk) 13:01, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandal Fighting

Thanks! I normally don't do vandal fighting - I usually just simplify, add references, and other things like that. But the recent changes AJAX tool makes it easy, and I want to get some closure on vandals. Especially when edits like this happen after I revert vandals. By the way, if that IP vandalizes again, could you please add it to WP:VIP? I guess we just get waves of vandalism every once in a while. Anyways, I'm turning in for the night. Lol "noaz" :P. I'll turn chat on. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:19, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Right, as for colours I don't really mind as long as they go together. I like the idea of a two-column userpage (like my one ATM or like w:User:Phaedriel). I love the idea of tabs (like w:User:Jossi) but am not interested in a header. I wouldn't mind incorporating the ad I have for the Wikiproject into the userpage (you can change the colours if necessary). Need anything else, ask. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:27, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
p.s. For tabs, small like Jossi's. Matching colours if possible. With something like Userpage - Awards - Milestones - Wikiproject. Keep userboxes, quotes and pictures on same page. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:36, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alphabetical Lists in Categories

Hi RyanCross, Help needed! I have added a category to some pages I have been working on. On the category page the list is in alphabetical order, but my entries are under first name order, and other peoples are in surname order. How do I fix it? The page is http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Australian_criminals - my entries are for Ben Hall, John Gilbert and Ned Kelly. Peterdownunder (talk) 08:24, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I have no clue at all on how to fix that... though I might look around it. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 18:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'll butt in here with the answer. Use {{BD|1837|1865|Hall, Ben}} for Ben Hall. This will give you the 1837 Births , 1865 deaths categories, and also sort it by surname. I have done that one, but the rest still need sorted. You can leave out the death date, but you still need to put in the | for example {{BD|1837||Hall, Ben}} If you need any more help, give me a shout! Kennedy (talk) 08:08, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Simple form of "criticized" and "thrived"

Hi, do you know what will be the simple form of "criticized" and "thrived"? This is about the article Anti-tobacco movement in Nazi Germany. --Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 18:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not too sure about "thrived", but the best thing I can think of when writing a simple form of "criticized" is instead saying something like, "saying what is wrong with something". For example: In a sentence, it should look like, "He said what is wrong with her", instead of, "He criticized her". Sounds good? -- RyanCross (talk) 19:00, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thrive --> increase? Got better/bigger? More of? --Gwib -(talk)- 19:14, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that is good idea, I have changed the word "criticized" per above and used "got better" instead of "thrive". --Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 03:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alrighty then, thanks for asking anyway. :-) StaticFalcon, please do no keep asking me to redesign your user page, as I was already going to reply to your first message but I have a limited of time on Wikipedia due to real life. But since you retired, I'm can't really redesign your user page. And you only retired because two people didn't think you would be a good admin. That doesn't mean people don't want you were and that your not good. Though, I believe you can be a great contributer! You just haven't shown it just yet. But like I said, since you retired, there's no use in redesigning your main page if you've "left". And again, you can be a really good contributer! You just haven't shown in yet. ;) Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 00:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speaking of user pages, what do you think of mine? I created it myself, so it's probably not perfect. But I didn't copy anything from anybody else, and I didn't steal Gwib's tab design. I created it via here (somewhat, very altered) and other things I've created on Test Wikipedia. Anyway, it took a while, what do you think? — AE (talk) 02:35, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. I see blue is your favored color in most places. :-) Though, don't you think there are too many tabs? Looks a bit squished, IMO. -- RyanCross (talk) 03:19, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cause and effect

Recently, you "cleaned up" to section headings in the article Asperger Syndrome. It took me a while to notice the problem that you had created. You changed "What causes Asperger Sydrome?" to Causes, and "How does Asperger Syndrome affect a person?" to Affects.

No. The second sentence cannot possibly be summed up in the word "affects". You are plainly confusing the word "affect" which is a verb, with the word "effect" which is a noun. You can talk about "cause and effect" but you can't talk about "cause and affect".

The question "How does Asperger Syndrome affect a person?" can be translated in a single word as "Symptoms". But this is not Simple English. However, I will use it, and reinstate the question as well! Amandajm (talk) 07:53, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heh, I made that edit almost two months ago. Well, your version is much better than the one I made back then. Thanks for the note. -- RyanCross (talk) 01:20, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes not to worry, I can do that. I'm a little busy with things like SPL and Scottish First Division etc, but I will do what I can :) Kennedy (talk) 10:20, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great! Thanks for your help. :-) -- RyanCross (talk) 10:41, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

PVGA and .Hack

Thanks for rewriting .hack, I didn't know it was real, :D. Anyway can you look over Jupiter and vote on it at PVGA as its only got two days left and two votes. Cheers. FSM Noodly? 10:29, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Here's a tip: If you don't know if an article is real or not, check en.wikipedia and Google. They usually show some useful things. ;) And I've participated in the PVGA, though, I just couldn't support. Nice article though. :-) -- RyanCross (talk) 10:41, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Looked like it was failing there, so I closed the request and moved it to PGA. If it doesn't pass that... Anyway can you vote there please if it's not too much trouble. Cheers. FSM Noodly? 10:53, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Eh, I think I'll wait on this one. I would just like others to comment first, just so I can get some other opinions on it first which would be able to help me decide my !vote. Hope that's okay. :-) Cheers, RyanCross (talk) 10:55, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, I'm probably going to have an RfA in a few weeks. And it wasn't a "boneheaded" move at all. I'm okay with it, so no need to take a break because of it. Well, I guess you won't be participating because of your break until October. Have fun, RyanCross (talk) 23:38, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

For all your hard work, I, Kennedy, am proud to award you this lovely (albeit green) barnstar! *applause* Kennedy (talk) 08:43, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was also wondering, (sorry for all the posts here) if you could leave some comments on my review? Kennedy (talk) 15:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the barnstar, Kennedy. :-) I've replied on my editor review page. And of course! I'll be happy to review you. It says in big bold text anyway at WP:ER, "When asking for a review, please consider reviewing another editor." But just like you did, it will have to take me some time to make a proper review. But because of real life events, I'm not exactly sure when I'll be able to make my review, but it should be within this month. -- RyanCross (talk) 00:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE:Closing RfDs

The one I closed was easier simply to redirect; it was a duplicate, so could probably have been QD'd for housekeeping. Therefore, as it wouldn't actually require a deletion, there wasn't much point in keeping it open. Wrong place, you see? Baseball

Its official! Baseball is not American, its British: link to BBC News

Local historians in Surrey have confirmed evidence that baseball was played in the UK more than 20 years before American independence.

A diary that documents a game being played in Guildford in 1755 has been verified by Surrey History Centre.

I thought it was Australian! :P Giggy (talk) 04:24, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
About your PVGA, I also think you ought to add in interwiki links, if there are any to be added. I just don't really believe that only EN and Simple Wikipedia have articles on "Baseball Uniform". Perhaps there are more? Minor or Prime 10:23, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
VGA criteria says it needs at least one interwiki link. There is only one out there. If there were more, the bots would have added it. But like I said, VGA requires at least one interwiki link. -- RyanCross (talk) 10:27, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The bots know what interwiki links to create? How do they think on thier own? Minor or Prime 10:28, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
They are programmed that way I guess. I'm not an expert on bots. Maybe reading en:WP:BOT might help? -- RyanCross (talk) 10:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I just thought there ought to be more bots. Minor or Prime 10:35, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question re: "complex" template

Hi. Only came to SimpleWP today accidentally but think its great. Just done my second edit - Underwater. Noticed that you had tagged it "complex". I have two requests (though they are not at all urgent): (1) Can you have a quick look at the page comparison before my first edit and the page as it is now and just tell me briefly if I'm on the right track with editing in Simple? (2) Could the template be removed or does the article need more work? (I guess I'm really only asking one question!). thanks Glen Dillon (talk) 09:35, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Let's take a look, shall we? This edit looks fine to me. Much simpler than before. I simplified it further and then removed the {{complex}} tag. You did good as a newcomer to simple. Nice work! :-) Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 09:51, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

J League

Just regarding this - The J League is the Japanese league, the SPL template only lists Scottish teams etc. I've removed it so it doesn't confuse. :) Kennedy (talk) 20:40, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heh, whoops, wrong article. No problem. Cheers, RyanCross (talk) 20:42, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nice job. I knew you would do it. But why #2 and not the one I nominated you for? StaticFalcon -=Electrify My Thoughts=- 19:10, Sunday September 21 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Static! I was waiting until I hit the 3 month mark. When you nominated me, I was at about 2.5 months. It's because WP:CFA suggests that a candidate for adminship should be at least 3 months old as preferred. -- RyanCross (talk) 19:16, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh. Anyway do you think I'll make it sometime soon? Static -=Electrify My Thoughts=- 19:17, Sunday September 21 2008 (UTC)
Uh, I think the best person to judge that is you. ;-) I still think you have a lot to learn, even just the basics, but that's only what I think. Just remember that adminship is no big deal, and it shouldn't be a primary goal for anyone. Articles should be much higher goals. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 19:23, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
