Quick deletion of Japanese era name

Hello, Tenmei. An article you created Japanese era name, has been automatically tagged for deletion because it looks like a test page. Please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. If you think there has been an error please feel free to remove the tag and leave a message here explaining what happened. Thank you. --ChenzwBot (talkchanges) 23:41, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not sure why it was tagged as a test, but it was a copy/paste from English Wikipedia, which is not allowed here. Please see this on how to copy articles from en.wiki and bring them here. Cheers, Lauryn (utc) 23:44, 23 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please remember to read WP:CW for suggestions when using English Wikipedia articles as basis for your articles. Thanks. --Diego let's talk 16:57, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please, remember to attribute. You haven't did it in List of Emperors of Japan. It is a pure copypaste from en.WP and I could request deletion right now. Please do so. --Diego let's talk 21:32, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
FYI: I created this table at en:Wikipedia. Also, the format, inline citations and bibliographic reference sources which are copied here are mine. However, this specific article was started by someone else in 2008. If the attribution I have added from 2010 is inadequate, a link to the 2008 version can be substituted. Is the 2010 attribution satisfactory? --Tenmei (talk) 21:49, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Emperor Jomei

change

Hello there, I saw your edit summary. CE stands for Common Era. It means the person was born after the year 0. CE is basically just another word for AD, which is really a religious term, so I used CE instead. Hope you understand. Regards, Orashmatash 20:31, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your follow-up. I do understand what the acronym CE means. The question mark in my edit summary suggests two questions
(a) Is CE really helpful or needed?
(b) Is the smaller font less intrusive?
IMO, CE is not helpful, not needed in this context. Compare other Wikipedia articles about Emperor Jomei. For this 7th century biographical subject, none use "CE" or its equivalent. In time, I hope consensus develops for the removal of "CE" in Emperor Jomei. --Tenmei (talk) 20:41, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I believe it is needed. Because of the early birth of this emperor, it could either be BCE or CE, so I think adding it would help. If, however, you disagree, feel free to remove it. It was merely an idea for improvement. If you check other articles about people who lived a long time ago, there might be CE or BCE acronyms next to the dates of life. Orashmatash 20:52, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
What about leaving CE in place for a while?

Let's see what happens. I will continue to create new articles about the Emperors of Japan. Perhaps we can return to this issue in December? --Tenmei (talk) 20:57, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good to me. Happy editing! Orashmatash 20:58, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi Tenmei! I have decided to go ahead and   Remove the 'CE's from the article. Happy editing! --Orashmatash 19:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Japanese provinces

change

Hi. I noticed you've been creating articles about Japanese provinces. I created a new category for them -- Category:Provinces of Japan. You can use that category instead of Category:Japan for any new articles you create. Cheers! --Auntof6 (talk) 21:29, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thank you. The new category is helpful. --Tenmei (talk) 21:56, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Since you had fixed your reply: You have the ability to vote on weather or not Simple English Wikipedia needs a project that could assist users who has disabilities and can't write very good articles that they want to nominate at WP:PGA/WP:PVG. Can you look at Manzai?

change

You work on a lot of Japan-related articles, so I thought I'd ask you to look at Manzai. I was going to wikify it, but I'm not sure I understand it well enough. Would you see if you can help? --Auntof6 (talk) 23:49, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Capital of France + Blind men and an elephant

change

I don't think the Category:Capital_of_France is needed. It is simply confusing for someone who may just want to know about the actual capital, Paris; it actually makes it sound like all those towns are currently the capital of France. Yottie =talk= 20:21, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, of course -- I see your point; but please take a look at some related articles and categories. Also, please compare the counterparts in the English Wikipedia.
Can you see how this article about France and the one category help to make the others a bit easier to understand?

Please help me re-write the introduction to this article so that the problem is addressed.

This work was preparation for the Captial City Weekend.--Tenmei (talk) 20:41, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I understand what you are trying to say, but in that case, I would prefer it if the category was renamed to something like former capitals of France. Yottie =talk= 20:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Please notice the "History" section headers in Capital of Japan, Capital of Korea, Capital of Egypt and Capital of France. Does this help mitigate the problem you have highlighted? --Tenmei (talk) 21:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
My problem isn't the article, but the category. Yottie =talk= 21:14, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
This English Wikipedia category is perhaps relevant en:Category:Former capitals of Japan? --Tenmei (talk) 21:21, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Why don't we therefore rename the categories here to former capitals of...? Yottie =talk= 21:46, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please give some thought to the explanation at the top of the page at en:Category:Former national capitals. I think you begin with an "either/or" question. I wonder if that may not be necessary or best in this context? I have asked Peterdownunder and Auntof6 to help us figure out what to do, --Tenmei (talk) 22:09, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Note there is no such category on the English Wikipedia; also, if you wish to keep the category, it should be renamed to Capitals in the plural (as there were more than one). I still think former capitals of... would work better, but let's wait for Peter and Auntof6 to reply :) Regards, Yottie =talk= 22:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I take it this discussion is about what to call a category that includes articles about cities that have been the capital of France. My best suggestion is Category:National capitals of France. The word "National" tells you that is isn't for capitals of subdivisions of France, and the word "capitals" being plural tells you that it's not about just one city. A description like "This category is for articles about cities that have been the capital of France at some point in history" could be put at the top of the category page. I think the individual article could have the same title ("National capitals of France").
Here's an example of the structure I'm thinking of:
Categories for other countries could follow the same model. If there's an article "National capitals of Foo", but there aren't enough individual city articles to make a category, then that article could be alone under Category:Capitals by country. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:08, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion, this thread is like the old story of the blind men and an elephant. In other words, this is an example of talking past each other (鸡同鸭讲 or 雞同鴨講) --Tenmei (talk) 15:09, 26 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yottie suggests here that the word "Capital" should be changed from singular to plural. Yes, as an exercise in independent inductive reasoning, that way of looking at each category does make good sense.

However, the category is populated by articles with a singular "Capital" in the title.

A review of the edit histories of each of these nested categories will show that an anonymous editor 70.184.168.201 in Virginia contrived this so-called "problem" -- and I see his/her work is a helpful exercise in deductive reasoning.

In other words, my guess is that he/she deduced the commonality in the cohort of articles which are grouped. Each category title reflects the deductive analysis. --Tenmei (talk) 01:20, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please look at Daiei_(era) if you have time

change

Hi Tenmei,

Thanks for creating so many Japanese history and geography articles. Filling in the factual information in a structured, consistent way is very helpful. I noticed in the recent Japanese era articles that some of the vocabulary in the template may be a bit complex. In particular "spanned" and "reign". I simplified these on Daiei_(era) and wonder what you think. I changed "spanned the years from August 1521 through August 1528" to a simple started in/ended format. Reign isn't simple. "Rule" is, but isn't really correct. I think it is OK to just leave it out like this: "The reigning emperors were X and Y" to "The emperors were X and Y". I made a few other simplifications specific to that article too. Thanks again, Gotanda (talk) 03:10, 5 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thank you for investing time in helping me make better guesses about what and how to simplify. In response, please see changes in Ōei. As you suggest, the started/ended format is now used.

However, please join me in reviewing the use of the terms "reigning" and "reign" which have been linked to Simple:Wiktionary -- see here. Should we use the word "reign" as a kind of technical term or jargon in the monarchy context? Perhaps you may have noticed that some sources used the term "reign name" as a synonym for nengō?

I have another template-related question in the Ōei context: I wonder if we should not consider the transitive verb "receive" as a kind of technical term in a diplomacy context? For example, the wording here:

September 1398 (Ōei 5, 8th month): In the 6th year of the reign of King Taejong of Joseon, a Korean diplomatic mission was received in Japan.
If I am careful to add a wikt: link, do you think the word "receive" will be understood? For example, the wording here:
1451 (Hōtoku 3, 7th month ): A diplomatic mission from the Ryukyu Islands is received for the first time in Heian-kyō (Kyoto).
From time to time, I hope you will feel free to make other suggestions which may help me to write more simply. --Tenmei (talk) 14:14, 5 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
