...because the template always updates whereas the medal count doesn't i.e. it has to be be done manually. If the count isn't updated and China aren't in the lead at any given moment (say, tomorrow at 2am your time when you're asleep) the page will be inaccurate. Therefore put a stake in the ground which is correct instead of using the template. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:05, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

- Bias towards China? Well they are hosting it. And boy oh boy are we all sick of hearing about Phelps, so as far as I'm concerned, it's biased towards the US as well. It's just a symptom of the sports that are going on right now, gymnastics, swimming, shooting etc. The Chinese are winning bags of medals and perhaps the rest of the world are jealous. - And that never happens anywhere else in the world. Get real Gwib. It was a massive event watched by 2 billion people. You can't make mistakes there. I enjoyed it and so did millions of other people. And ChristianMan, perhaps you were unaware of China's Project 119, which they've been implementing for some time to win 119 medals at these Games. - And by the way, things like "While I can see China say "You make us win or you won't get out of China alive." have no foundation whatsoever. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:46, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Then you're deluded. Sadly deluded. Just because the obese West sit around and moan about how things are going, how can you dispute the Chinese success? Jealousy I think is the key here. I would withdraw your unsubstantiated claim please. It's disrespectful and without foundation. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:55, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

- Very kind of you to say so. What's gotten into me lately is a sickening feeling that this Wikipedia is run by cliques for the promotion of cliques. It needs shaking up. VGA and the current farce at RFA are just two VERY major areas that need improvement. And you don't get improvement by nancying around. And as for this little spat, if someone tells me the Chinese are cheating and saying "You make us win or you won't get out of China alive" then I'll react badly to it. So there you have it. I sure do like to review people, but I can't review you; maybe only at the moment, because of two reasons. One, I don't think I'm qualified enough; I'm not an expert myself. Two, I don't see you when you come in to edit, so I'm not very sure what kind of edits you make, and how active you are. Moreover, I'm not a very active user myself. Thank you for the barnstar
Hello ChristiamMan16, thank you very much for the barnstar. I don't know what difference my note on the Administrator noticeboard on EnWP regarding your unbanning will have; EnWP are a much bigger community than we are. All I can say is that people change during their life. They see that some things they did were wrong. One one hand, editing in community-based projects is a step in the life of people - at some point they will move on. One the other, we are a very small community, so losing an editor that can be trusted will probably hurt us more than EnWp, which has many editors. Good luck for your future endeavours. Personally, I hope you do not retire, and help us get more sports-related articles. :) All the best. --Eptalon (talk) 08:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

DYK noms
With ref to your query at at User talk:RyanCross as to whether I have something against you- no. However, I believe in your comments on my nomination of Big Mac Index, you were being petty because I had taken you to task for lying [1] and for having a signature that does not comply with WP:SIG [2] as well as rejecting two of your DYK noms for not meeting even the most generous interpretation of DYK rules. I don't have anything against you overall but I will take up any editor when they lie, when they don't meet our guidelines (especially after complaining about readability of a page and their signature's lack of compliance with the guideline is a significant contributer to lack of readability), and I will reject DYK noms that are of insufficient quality. My rejection of your DYK noms can be reviewed by any other editor and I will not comment further on your DYK noms in the future - one way or the other. You appear to be unable to manage receiving any feedback which has been honestly, even if forthrightly, given. --Matilda (talk) 05:55, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Your warning on my Talk page
Just a heads up, I've been vandalism reverting for 4 years on Wikipedia (on en.wp). When I edited that IP to post that warning, there was no indication of the location or user of that address. I did not violate WP:BITE, since they are not newcomers, and the IP has been persistently warned in the past for everything ranging from test edits to outright vandalism.
I think you meant that I violated WP:CIVIL since the header was rude.
Either way, with the amount of warnings that IP had, the post was justified in my opinion. You are of course, welcome to ask an administrator to review the edit and seek another opinion. Iceflow (talk) 11:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I personally think a template warning, especially something like this, is bitey in itself. Practice what you preach, no? I think setting an example is the best way to create change. ס Talk 11:51, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

re my warning
Ummm - good faith can only be assumed if the edits are not vandalising. Perhaps you know nothing at all about the subject matter - but the new users edits of Deep Purple were vandalism - no good faith about it - three edits in a row and the third after your friendly warning. If you did know something about the topic then you would find that {{uw-test1}} (subst: of course) would have been more appropriate. Once you had welcomed him - test 1 was no longer appropriate - I didn't like the wording of test 2 hence I went to test 3 which is more definite. Regards --Matilda (talk) 04:04, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- As mentioned above I previewed test2. Because of your friendly message (which was a bit overboard for a vandal in my view), the wording of test2 was not appropriate in my view - hence test 3. If you were monitoring, why didn't you revert? and why didn't you use test 1? The test1 message is much less ambiguous in setting the tone of the encounter to a vandal while still being quite adequately friendly. A very friendly message (like your's) is only appropriate for a user who is editing in good faith. This user wasn't. --Matilda (talk) 04:17, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Do you use popups preview (mouseover) to monitor changes? It helps a lot to give a view of a change without having to click on the diff. The diff was [3] - and Ya Mumma groupie or whatever is a pretty good give away - I don't know much about Deep Purple (other than they are a famous rock group) - but I know enough that that was not a useful edit ;-) If you wanted to know how to set up, feel free to copy the script from User:Matilda/monobook.js to your monobook - ie at User:ChristianMan16/monobook.js. My script works in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. You seem to have no script there so perhaps you are missing out on this joyous tool or perhaps you are using something different which works as well if not better. Umm - saw your message to Samekh in effect endorsing my comments about his signature. But as you will remember I had raised a similar issue with you and you chose not to change. Samekh can choose not change even though he is violating the guideline just as you chose. His violation is worse than yours in my view because it affects readers not just editors - but that is just a point of view and it is just a guideline. --Matilda (talk) 05:03, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Re:WP:AGF
The user was using two different IP's: 65.25.15.87, which recreated the page twice, and 76.212.230.9 which created three other pages that had to be deleted. I felt that an only warning was justified. Oysterguitarist 04:57, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll assume more good faith next time. By the way, thanks for the correction on my reference. Oysterguitarist 05:03, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Just want to point out one thing- you assuming Oysterguitarist was not acting in good faith when he was and you just did not know the reasoning behind his actions is actually violation WP:AGF. Questioning him about his actions is one thing, but to accuse him of wrong doing with no proof is not assuming he acted in good faith and totally ironing when the very thing you are accusing him of is violating AGF. -- Creol(talk) 06:08, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think you have the whole story...please leave my talk page alone about this subject now as it was resolved about a hour ago. Thank you.-- ✧ CM16 06:10, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I fail to see how you telling someone "you are not assuming good faith for first time offenders" when the case actually had absolutely nothing to due with first time offenders and was blatantly incorrect and yet you accused him of bad faith is a resolved matter when I do not see a warning on your talk page about AGF and him apologizing to you for actions you are guilty of and not him. -- Creol(talk) 06:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

RfA conom
Hi - I am in the embarrassing position of multiple offers of nomination and conomination for RfA - please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Matilda and my user talk page at User talk:Matilda#Ready?. I have elected to wait for the conventional 3 months and this gives a week for you (and maybe others) to add your conom to the page Synergy has prepared if you still wish. --Matilda (talk) 00:57, 19 November 2008 (UTC) (embarrassed but flattered)

Matilda's QD tag on Bubbles (painting)
When there is no reason given on the tag it just means it was 100% obvious why it should have been deleted :) Synergy 21:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well my motto is every QD tag must have a reason in it.-- ✧ CM16 21:27, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well then you're just wrong. Not every tag needs a reason. Some are just common sense, like the one I just deleted. Synergy 21:29, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not wrong just because every tag doesn't need a reason. It the way I work and it gets the job done in the rules. Common sense doesn't always work or I wouldn't have been accused of socking on my last RfA...y'all know I don't curse.-- ✧ CM16 21:34, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Common sense is what makes a good admin, good. Synergy 22:43, 20 November 2008 (UTC)That was slightly redundant but I think you get the message. And if commons sense doesn't work for you, then I won't stand in your way.

Cats and iw in sandbox
Hey, I wanted to let you know I went through the articles in your sandbox and hid the cats and iw. Generally, it's a good idea to omit or hid these things on pages you're working on in your own namespace. No big deal, just thought I'd let you know. :-) · Tygrrr... 19:03, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Since you have offered to nominate Matilda (talk · contribs) for admimship, her RfA is located at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Matilda which I recently created. Die Hard with a Vengeance
I wrote that plot summary from scratch and tried to make it as simple as possible. If you still think it's complex, what, may I ask, do you find complex about it? I could use feedback on how i write plot summaries out. FWIW, the en verion is 876 words, while mine is about 810, so I succeeded in compressing mine. alexandra (talk) 06:49, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
WWE Hardcore Championship
The only answer I can come up with is "weird edit conflict situation". I fixed the cats and it never told me there was an edit conflict, but went to a version prior to your adding the infobox. I was in the midst of correcting to your info and my cats, but you had already corrected it. -- Creol(talk) 07:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
2007 Wrestlemania
Found a great source for Wrestlemania in 2007 - New York Times article - went to add it but there is no article on on that event :-( . The NYT article is interesting to those of us who do not watch this sort of television - even noting world-wide impact - ie delivered via satellite to 110 countries + Every week, wrestling shows attract more than 15 million television viewers. --Matilda (talk) 06:11, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Universe
I wasn't calling religion a "myth", I was calling "creation myths" "myths". An "origin myth" and "creation myth" are specific terminology. It has been the subject of numerous "theories", and all theories are not creation myths or origin myths. "Theories" was general, and "myth" is not disparaging. I personally am an atheist who has spiritual beliefs, but my edits on universe did not reflect my personal opinion. Jonas D. Rand T 00:46, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

House cleaning
I took a look at your userspace (here) and noticed you could do with a little house cleaning in there. You have 100 subpages counting all the sandboxes and redirects left behind from pages being moved to the mainspace. I would suggest taking a look at the list and requesting deletion for those pages you do not need any longer. -- Creol(talk) 07:41, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Just a note, we're not using the |entry= parameter at the moment. If some kind soul wants to up date all the noms to do it, then fine, but I think it's an all or none thing, otherwise it looks messy and inconsistent.

Nations Cup
Hello TrueCRaysball/Archive. I am warning you about the Nations cup. It will be run parallel to the Wikicup you have signed up for. It will be the same points system, but you will team up with someone. Then, all the rounds will be the same as the Wikicup. It is not obligatory to sign up for the nations cup, but it is highly recommended, as if you are knocked out of one of the cups, you can remain in the other one! Please, hurry up the entry end on the 31st of December, and team up with somebody! Remember you will also have to choose a country (it doesn't have to be the same as the Wikicup one). |
Merry Christmas!
ChristianMan16, I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas 2008, and that Santa brings you everything you want :P. If you are going away anywhere, have a great time, and whatever else you do I really hope you enjoy it!

Hello Cman, Regarding this - The point in having the table is so you can see at a glance who is online at what times. The table is UTC. It makes it a lot harder to interprate the table when your online time is in a different time zone. I strongly suggest you convert it to UTC. Or I will. Kennedy (talk) 10:05, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- Kennedy to be honest, I tried dto do it in UTC in the first place but I couldn't figure it out so I did it in eastern, now I would like you to convert as it would probably be easier for you. I meant no harm and I never wanted to get in trouble either, I just wasn't able to convert it. I don't live in the UTC 0 time zone I live in the UTC -5 time zone (UTC -4 in the summer). I'm sorry.-- ✝ CM16 18:32, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Microsoft Vista can handle censoring of Simple Wikipedia with their parental controls. If you set the parental controls "Web Restrictions" to medium, it will allow access to Simple Wikipedia, but not pages like "penis", "nudity", "ejaculation". Pages like "elephant" do show up. If the parental controls are set to "high", Simple Wikipedia does not come up. As far as I am concerned, that solves my issues. I just need to do some testing on the commons website. Take care, and thank you for your supportive words in this matter. Zzmonty (talk) 00:48, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
There is just too much resistance to setting up categories. Plus, I need to spend my time and energy worrying about my own children. The tools to allow somebody to view acceptable pages (to some level), and not view unacceptable pages exists. This is very different from 10 years ago when whole websites could only be blocked and there was not a distinction between Sex education, Pornography, and general discussion of the topic.
If somebody does not have Vista, they can buy NetNanny for $29.99 and it will work along the same lines. On top of that, within 4 yrs, Vista or higher will be the standard.
If you are interested, I am working on a project in wikibooks. wikibooks:User:zzmonty It is a visual encylopedia designed to allow kids to easily access images that they could use in reports or just playing. (My son loves the B page where I put a link to the sound of bear growling by the picture of a bear). For some images I am going to just provide a link to the WikiCommons category. But for others, I am going to have to create their own page. This will be especially true with the human anatomy images. A child wanting to see a picture of a chest does not need to see a picture of a chest being cut open during an operation. :) I am also having to clean up some categories. The "chains" category had some images on the main level that had to be moved to more appropriate categories.
Thanks again. Zzmonty (talk) 12:46, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
