en.wiki troll
I noticed you commented on User:TwilightSparkleCuddleBear453's talk page. FYI, this is clearly the same person as [1], who I blocked on en.wiki a few days ago, and who an en.wiki CU says has had multiple now-blocked accounts. They will pretend to be new, and make LOTS of newbie-looking mistakes, and waste a lot of your time if you let them. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:20, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for letting me know, Floquenbeam. Here, we have a WP:ONESTRIKE rule, so we can block problematic users from enwiki with less warning than other users, especially if they're continuing the same behaviour they were blocked for on enwiki. --Ferien (talk) 08:10, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
The sock
Can you revoke talk page access too please? I reverted it and it contains racist remarks so possible OS needed. Also can you adjust your archive settings? There is a lot on here especially with the huge pictures and on mobile it’s hard to get to something:) Thanks! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? - @PotsdamLamb: here? From what I can tell, it's just nonsense being typed, which is inappropriate for an unblock request, but not inappropriate enough for RevDel. --Ferien (talk) 09:04, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes I mixed that up. It was the other one but yes that’s the one which is why I blanked the page. Because it’s putting it in a category it should not be in since no actual unblock request was made. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 09:12, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)I've seen more unusual unblock requests at meta, including some really unusual ones like "1234" or "PLEASE UNBLOCK ME SO I CAN VANDALISE", but it is up to the admin to unblock, and blanking the page is never a good idea. SHB2000 (talk) 09:49, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The wikis that have Growth features deployed have been part of A/B testing since deployment, in which some newcomers did not receive the new features. Now, all of the newcomers on 21 of the smallest of those wikis will be receiving the features. [2]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- In 2017, the provided jQuery library was upgraded from version 1 to 3, with a compatibility layer. The migration will soon finish, to make the site load faster for everyone. If you maintain a gadget or user script, check if you have any JQMIGRATE errors and fix them, or they will break. [3][4]
- Last year, the Portuguese Wikipedia community embarked on an experiment to make log-in compulsory for editing. The impact report of this trial is ready. Moving forward, the Anti-Harassment Tools team is looking for projects that are willing to experiment with restricting IP editing on their wiki for a short-term experiment. Learn more.

Recent changes
- 45 new Wikipedias now have access to the Growth features. [5]
- A majority of Wikipedias now have access to the Growth features. The Growth team has published an FAQ page about the features. This translatable FAQ covers the description of the features, how to use them, how to change the configuration, and more.
Problems
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on 14 September. This is planned at 14:00 UTC. [6]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 September. It will be on all wikis from 16 September (calendar).
- Starting this week, Wikipedia in Italian will receive weekly software updates on Wednesdays. It used to receive the updates on Thursdays. Due to this change, bugs will be noticed and fixed sooner. [7]
- You can add language links in the sidebar in the new Vector skin again. You do this by connecting the page to a Wikidata item. The new Vector skin has moved the language links but the new language selector cannot add language links yet. [8]
- The syntax highlight tool marks up code with different colours. It now can highlight 23 new code languages. Additionally,
golang
can now be used as an alias for the Go programming language, and a specialoutput

Could you check my request at RFP on rollback?
I posted a request there but it seems to have been ignored. Could you check there? SoyokoAnis - talk 16:27, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- SoyokoAnis, sometimes RFPs are left unanswered for a little while, it doesn't necessarily mean they are ignored. I have marked your request as "Not done" for now, but please don't be discouraged. Your anti-vandalism work is certainly appreciated, I would just like to see a little more before granting rollback. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 20:53, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Action
Hello Ferien! If a user continuously nominates multiple RFDs and if most/all of them gone unsuccessful, and if he/she still continues such actions, what can admins do to such a user? And is giving reason like "no wikidata item, no en wiki equivalent" for the RFD suitable? Haoreima (talk) 08:18, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- Haoreima, if a user is being really disruptive at requests for deletion, an admin can block them.
- Whilst "no wikidata item" and "no enwiki equivalent" can be signs of a page not being notable, they are not reasons to delete in themselves. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 16:23, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- Can these be used as one of the reasons for RFD like User:SHB2000 is saying in each of all his proposing RFDs? Haoreima (talk) 16:27, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- erm... that's not my problem that you're creating articles about non-notable subjects. SHB2000 (talk) 22:38, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- and is three RfD noms considered "disruptive"? My reasons were that they aren't notable, and fail the GNG criteria. I did not solely give those reasons on "no en article or wikidata item".
- If you really want to know what is disruptive RfD nominations, there's a user on Commons who just speedy nominates photos due to lack of FoP. Although they're since TBed after making threats on blocking. Nominating three articles is not disruptive. SHB2000 (talk) 23:08, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- SHB2000, no, I wouldn't say three RfD noms is disruptive. When I say "really disruptive", I mean the kind of editing that would count as disruptive editing. --Ferien (talk) 07:05, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- makes sense. I went a bit too defensive there because I knew that this thread was about me. SHB2000 (talk) 07:07, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- SHB2000 none says your actions are disruptive. Neither Ferien nor I. But a person (not referring to you) is called disruptive editor if he/she breaks wiki guidelines and policy, especially again after being notified/told by others. Your action really shows you don't respect WP:ATA. You are still not replying me the reason why you said the article isn't notable, when I, User:Ferien and User:Sakura emad told you three times about to reply when asked. Haoreima (talk) 07:37, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Your RFD nomination statement/reason for Mutua Bahadur really shows that you have no respect on WP:RELIABLE and WP:N. You said Google Books references are not reliable. It's totally contrasting to what the wikipedia guidelines say. Notability automatically comes if reliable sources are provided. You don't obey such rules and nominate any article according to your own wishes. Haoreima (talk) 07:59, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not engaging in a discussion based on personal attacks. SHB2000 (talk) 08:02, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- I don't say either it's "Personal attack" Or "Disruptive". I am just notifying you that you are not obeying, in fact, disrespecting wikipedia guidelines. See this? Haoreima (talk) 08:04, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Just in case you didn't know, when you post messages on talkpages and Wikipedia pages, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ("~~~~") at the end of your message. You can also click on the signature button ( or ), located in the edit toolbar, which is above the change window. Hello. You deleted this article without discussion, and there's no note on my user talk page. There were sources and Enioluwa Adeoluwa has notability in Nigeria for celebrity interviews as well as being widely reported as a redefining masculinity. This is one of the suggested articles in meta:Write for the Rights Nigeria/Article list.
Could you restore the article please and if you feel this is not enough, we can discuss the deletion as it does not appear very obvious. --Anstil (talk) 14:56, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Anstil. I deleted the page under the QD A4 criteria, the subject of the article did not claim notability in the article. However, the article can be recreated if notability is claimed. If you want the page you created sent to you (via email) to work on further before you publish it again, just let me know. And if you feel that notability was claimed, please go to Wikipedia:Deletion review for another administrator to review. Thanks. --Ferien (talk) 15:02, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- QD based on Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#A4 and what is stated at WP:GNG, does not apply if there are secondary sources with significant coverage. These existed in the article before the deletion. It would be simpler to follow the process for having a deletion discussion, rather than having to overturn a deletion. As this is a planned article in the Write for the Rights Nigeria competition, because of Adeoluwa's significant level of public impact on LGBTQ culture in Nigeria, could we follow that simpler and more positive process instead please? Thanks --Anstil (talk) 15:12, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Anstil, I've restored the article and created a request for deletion. --Ferien (talk) 15:31, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Temporary protection request
Hello.
Can you temporarily protect the articles Flag, Tricolour, Doner kebab, Yogurt, Country, Baklava, Republic of Artsakh, Kadaif, Azerbaijan, Shambali and Dolma because the IPs 212.108.146.62 and 185.135.96.2 are constantly POV pushing?
I suspect that 212.108.146.62 and 185.135.96.2 are the same person, because the POV pushing is in the same pattern in the same and related articles. The IP has a history of POV pushing and edit warring with other IP users and also administrators/rollbackers. Please check the log and POV edits of this user, and temporarily protect the articles this IP has POV edited on.
The articles Flag, Tricolour and Dolma were temporarily protected until August 7, but has been vandalized again by the same IP. Can you temporarily protect all these articles again?
This IP starts erasing sourced information, POV pushing and edit warring again, once the temporary protections end.
This is the third time I put a protection request in Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard, but no action is being taken.
Yours sincerely, Multituberculata (talk) 15:01, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Multituberculata. I have protected the Shambali article for 4 days. I haven't protected any of the other articles because, in my opinion, they don't have enough vandalism for protection. I've also blocked 212.108.146.62 as an open proxy. Regards, Ferien (talk) 15:17, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. However, 185.135.96.2 who is likely the same person as 212.108.146.62, will very likely strike again in the aformentioned articles, today or tomorrow or a bit later. When that happens, what is the next step? Multituberculata (talk) 15:47, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello.
- The IP 212.108.146.62 (likely the same person as 185.135.96.2) is striking again and again in the same articles and also in other articles. User:Etoza has reported this IP in Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress for Block evasion, as I did before about this IP's vandalism. The IP will not stop with his/her disruptive edits and behavior. The most recent articles he vandalized on 23 September are Israel, Baklava, Pita, Republic of Artsakh, Kadaif and Dolma. The other articles he vandalizes with POV pushing: Flag, Tricolour, Doner kebab, Yogurt, Country, Azerbaijan, and Shambali, will very likely follow.
- Nothing will stop and deter this IP, unless these articles and the IP are temporarily blocked for a much longer period.
- Yours sincerely, Multituberculata (talk) 13:05, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- The IP Etoza reported had already stopped when you messaged me. --Ferien (talk) 17:39, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yours sincerely, Multituberculata (talk) 13:05, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- This IP will attack again. Shouldn't these articles, and indeed any article not be temporarily protected from attacks? Even your talk page is being constantly attacked by different IPs. If they are not stopped and proscribed, they will become emboldened, as this IP's behavior in those articles, and other malevolent IPs behavior in other articles show. Multituberculata (talk) 20:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Multituberculata, protection is actually not used as much here as other wikis. It is usually used when people aren't able to keep up with the amount of vandalism being put on pages. As for my talk page, I would prefer it not to be protected at this time. It makes it more difficult for IP users to contact me and even if I had a separate IP talk page, it would make it more difficult for me to track messages on that page. --Ferien (talk) 20:33, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Growth features are now deployed to almost all Wikipedias. For the majority of small Wikipedias, the features are only available for experienced users, to test the features and configure them. Features will be available for newcomers starting on 20 September 2021.
- MediaWiki had a feature that would highlight local links to short articles in a different style. Each user could pick the size at which "stubs" would be highlighted. This feature was very bad for performance, and following a consultation, has been removed. [11]
- A technical change was made to the MonoBook skin to allow for easier maintenance and upkeep. This has resulted in some minor changes to HTML that make MonoBook's HTML consistent with other skins. Efforts have been made to minimize the impact on editors, but please ping Jon (WMF) on wiki or in phabricator if any problems are reported.
Problems
- There was a problem with search last week. Many search requests did not work for 2 hours because of an accidental restart of the search servers. [12]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 September. It will be on all wikis from 23 September (calendar).
- The meta=proofreadpage API has changed. The
piprop
parameter has been renamed toprpiprop
. API users should update their code to avoid unrecognized parameter warnings. Pywikibot users should upgrade to 6.6.0. [13]
Future changes
- The Reply tool will be deployed to the remaining wikis in the coming weeks. It is currently part of "Discussion tools" in Beta features at most wikis. You will be able to turn it off in Editing Preferences. [14]
- The previously announced change to how you obtain tokens from the API has been delayed to September 21 because of an incompatibility with Pywikibot. Bot operators using Pywikibot can follow T291202 for progress on a fix, and should plan to upgrade to 6.6.1 when it is released.

Hello i am @Gimmelover (talk) 15:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC), when i was checking the recent articles deleted on the wikipedia by you and other admins i found that Dc Themmie was deleted, and i have reliable source of creating the page i mean i have secondary source to make it notable for wikipedia. but there was a tag on it that only autoconfirmed can create it, pls can i,i have secondary sources thanksGimmelover (talk) 15:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC) Pls Gimmelover (talk) 15:47, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- No. That page was already deleted. Derpdart56 (talk) 15:49, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Hello, Gimmelover, me again, as multiple editors have told you, DC Themmie is not notable for Wikipedia. The page has been salted because it was recreated and deleted too many times. Cheers Hockeycatcat (talk) 15:50, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Gimmelover. As the others have said above, there was a consensus at requests for deletion to delete the page so please don't recreate it. You are free to start a discussion at deletion review if you believe DC Themmie now meets our notability requirements. Regards, Ferien (talk) 17:40, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Tool?
Hi Ferien, you blocked 196.170.61.110, that's fine. I'm wondering where the rationale "blocked p2p proxy|ip=196.170.61.110|isp=ADSL PPPoE POOL BNG}} API-confirmed P2P VPN)" comes from. ipcheck.toolforge.org doesn't give sufficient info. Is there a tool I don't know yet that I could probably use on Commons? Regards, Achim55 (talk) 18:25, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hey Achim55. If you take a look at en:Special:Contributions/196.170.61.110, it has been confirmed a P2P VPN by the ST47ProxyBot. I find that IPs blocked by this bot are also usually blocked globally by a steward relatively soon after, so I would say it's quite a reliable way of finding out whether an IP is a VPN or proxy. Regards, Ferien (talk) 18:28, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you! I didn't know of that bot and will check against it in the future. Cheers, Achim55 (talk) 18:33, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Linking to sister sites from simple
For some weird overkill, when I try to link to a project in regular English (except Wiktionary), I'm out of luck. So b:en: rather just takes me to the incubator and same with voy, s, q, n, v, and so on. Any way to fix this issue? Thanks! SHB2000 (talk) 06:33, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- SHB2000, try en:voy: instead of voy:en:. q:en: and b:en: should still take you to English Wikiquote and Wikibooks respectively because a long time ago, there was a Simple English Wikiquote and Wikibooks, but there has never been a Simple Wikisource, Wikivoyage etc. --Ferien (talk) 15:31, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. That seemed to work SHB2000 (talk) 22:32, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
Images
Hi Ferien, the disgusting images that you Oversighted are still visible here. Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 15:46, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- Indeed they were.. I've now RevDelled the other revisions where those images appeared. --Ferien (talk) 15:48, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much, my friend! Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 15:50, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Hockeycatcat: I agree that those images are being used in a very inappropriate way. However, Wikipedia is not censored and they would be appropriate in the right context, so could we maybe not call them disgusting? --Auntof6 (talk) 18:01, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
@Auntof6: I do understand that, I did mean that they were being used inappropriately. It was just shocking to suddenly see it pop up on my talk! Hockeycatcat (talk) 04:22, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
User issue
Hi Ferien, could you please block 49.144.1.0 because they are removing important blue links from articles every day. Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 09:16, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

- @Haoreima: Lecker means delicious in German. --Ferien (talk) 16:40, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- I know the German meaning. But when he says "Google Translate lecker", I was really confused. :) :-) Haoreima (talk) 16:43, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Haoreima, oh, I assume SHB2000 doesn't know German so he's just used Google Translate. Ferien (talk) 16:44, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah I can't really speak any languages apart from French and English plus a little bit of Italian as part of my musical knowledge. And don't mind that na-1 bit on my userpage. I don't think anyone apart from Ferien and one other user (7elteven) would understand why that's there ;-) SHB2000 (talk) 05:30, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

RFR
I requested a permission, specifically rollback, but it was ignored. Could you take a look at it? For others an admin answered within a day... 💠Ely - Talk💠 16:39, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Elytrian, I'll take a look at it. Just so you know if you request for a permission, if your request isn't answered within a few days, an admin isn't ignoring it. They may be waiting to see if another admin comments, or to see what other changes you may make etc. Ferien (talk) 16:52, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia translation of the week: 2021-39
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help translate this article! Behavior-altering parasites are parasites with two or more hosts, capable of causing changes in the behavior of one of their hosts to enhance their transmission, sometimes directly affecting the hosts' decision-making and behavior control mechanisms. They do this by making the intermediate host, where they may reproduce asexually, more likely to be eaten by a predator at a higher trophic level which becomes the definitive host where the parasite reproduces sexually. Examples can be found in bacteria, protozoa, viruses, and animals. Parasites may also alter the host behaviour to increase the protection to the parasites or their offspring. The term bodyguard manipulation is used for such mechanisms. Among the behavioral changes caused by parasites is carelessness, making their hosts easier prey. The protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, for example, infects small rodents and causes them to become careless and may even cause them to become attracted to the smell of feline urine, both of which increase their risk of predation and the parasite's chance of infecting a cat, its definitive host. (Please update the interwiki links on Wikidata of your language version of the article after each week's translation is finished so that all languages are linked to each other.) Recent changes
- iOS 15 has a new function called Private Relay (Apple website). This can hide the user's IP when they use Safari browser. This is like using a VPN in that we see another IP address instead. It is opt-in and only for those who pay extra for iCloud. It will come to Safari users on OSX later. There is a technical discussion about what this means for the Wikimedia wikis.
Problems
- Some gadgets and user-scripts add items to the portlets (article tools) part of the skin. A recent change to the HTML may have made those links a different font-size. This can be fixed by adding the CSS class
.vector-menu-dropdown-noicon
. [15]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 September. It will be on all wikis from 30 September (calendar).
- The GettingStarted extension was built in 2013, and provides an onboarding process for new account holders in a few versions of Wikipedia. However, the recently developed Growth features provide a better onboarding experience. Since the vast majority of Wikipedias now have access to the Growth features, GettingStarted will be deactivated starting on 4 October. [16]
- A small number of users will not be able to connect to the Wikimedia wikis after 30 September. This is because an old root certificate will no longer work. They will also have problems with many other websites. Users who have updated their software in the last five years are unlikely to have problems. Users in Europe, Africa and Asia are less likely to have immediate problems even if their software is too old. You can read more.
- You can receive notifications when someone leaves a comment on user talk page or mentions you in a talk page comment. Clicking the notification link will now bring you to the comment and highlight it. Previously, doing so brought you to the top of the section that contained the comment. You can find more information in T282029.
Future changes
- The Reply tool will be deployed to the remaining wikis in the coming weeks. It is currently part of "Discussion tools" in Beta features at most wikis. You will be able to turn it off in Editing Preferences. See the list of wikis. [17]

King of Kings Album moved
Hi. I just noticed that a recent RfD topic that you closed was renamed to Kings_of_Kings_Album. Can that one be speedily deleted or does it need to go through the RfD process a second time? I also note that the person who moved it, User:BrightjY, was soon after the move globally blocked. His last edit before the global blocking was to rename the page. Blissyu2 (talk) 13:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've deleted the page (it was eligible for G4 deletion) and closed the RfD. --Ferien (talk) 15:37, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
