Thnx for the welcome, but...

change

Again, ty for the welcome, but just saying about my stubs, do i really need to write a whole paragraph? Kinda clamping down on the stub length??? As i can see so far users have added more to the stubs i have created, except for like one, so i hope you don't get angry if i continue to write short stubs? I think up lots of ideas for stubs so my mind goes from one thing to another very quickly, but lets see what progresses... I know your a Admin, so i'am trying not to get in any trouble while i'am here. Feel free to reply back to this message either here on your tp, or mine. F. Scott Fitzgerald

change

Thanks for your early help/ advice regarding the Fitz article. I hope it can be brought up to scratch, given the significance. It has recently progressed from a disgracefully embarrassing stub to a more substantial entity - hopefully towards something fitting for an individual of Scott's talents. I'm fairly new to SEW, so any further advice would be most welcome. Anatole Laval (talk) 15:21, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you

change

Thank you very much for the Barnstar. I hope I can help build on what has already been started here on the Simple English Wikipedia. While I have your attention I had a question. I am familiar with the policies and procedures used on en-Wiki. And on en-Wiki I am familiar with how to request a deletion of an article when there are 2 created with the exact same content. But I am a bit vague here as to the "process." (although I am guessing most of it is pretty similar) The reason I ask is that I noticed this user named TriumphantMoose created 2 different pages with the exaact same content. See: Trenton-Robbinsville and Trenton-Robbinsville Airport. Both are the same. I am not sure how notable that particular airport is. But having 2 articles seems a bit much. Thanks again for the barnstar and thanks for any help you can give a newbie like me. Take care! Theodolyte (talk) 23:11, 5 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Most of our processes are based on enwiki, but being smaller and not quite as busy our processes are often simpler. When in doubt make a reasonable guess is probably the best policy! Two articles on the airport are a bit much - I would probably nominate one, most likely Trenton-Robbinsville for a QD on the grounds that it already exists. Or you could blank the page and make it a redirect to Trenton-Robbinsville Airport. --Peterdownunder (talk) 01:26, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the note. I can AGF for a short while that the article creator might actually re-direct the page himself. But by morning coffee if it is still there I will re-direct to the airport page. Take care! Theodolyte (talk) 02:35, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

DYK

change

Hello, I noticed that you are active in Did you know. Can you accept either my DYK or another DYK, as the main page is set to update DYKs in a few hours. I have 4 ready, there just needs to be one more. Also, as I'm new to simple, do we have to use simple in talk pages of people that have an en account and are able to comprehend complex english? Thanks TheWeakWilled (talk) 14:03, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay, but I've been busy on real life. I have been searching for an on line link to support penguin eggs on ice, but so far have failed. All the online refs say the female lays the egg and then the male balances it on his feet. The book I have here is the only ref I have so far that it is laid on ice. We can either go with that, or try a new hook like "...that the male Emperor Penguin keeps an egg on his feet to keep it warm." In the meantime I shall try and find some more specialized refs to support the claim in the article. In relation to using simple on talk pages etc., it is probably fair to say that most editors are able to write and understand more complex English (like this), but I keep it as simple as I can, as quite a few do not have English as their first language. They may not understand nuances, slang, sarcasm, humour, or implied meanings. There is also the danger that written communication may not have the friendly tone that the same thing spoken may have. Feathers often get ruffled over misunderstandings. Also, thanks for the work on DYK. --Peterdownunder (talk) 08:04, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Dont sweat the delay. Real life takes precident over wikipedia for me too, haha. I'll try to use simple in talk pages unless it seems to me that the user knows advanced English. Better to stay safe than anger people. TheWeakWilled (talk) 14:56, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

GoblinBot4 False Positives

change

Hey there!

I see that you recently either reported or commented on a False Positive for this Bot. Thank you for taking the time to do so.

Could I now please request that you add the same information to a bug on our Jira page, at https://jira.toolserver.org/secure/CreateIssueDetails!init.jspa?pid=10341&issuetype=1 - this allows us to keep better track of your bugs and implement changes to stop them from happening in the future.

Finally, please can you not revert errors (just the warnings) nor comment on False Positives and leave them to the developers, because there are wrong reasons being cited and it is getting harder to find which diff the reverts apply to.

Kind regards,

Notability question

change

Hi Peterdownunder. Recently I tagged the article for Antônio Álvares Pereira‎ as an A4 quick delete. The IP that created the page removed my tag but did not really flesh the page to support notability. The anon creator has been busy adding other language interwik links all of which are to other language Wiki pages started by the same IP that created the page here at SEW. A few of those other non-English articles have already been deleted or nominated for that fate. I do not wish to battle with the IP by tagging the page again as an A4. Could you take the time to look in and see if the page subject merits an article here. Thanks for you time. Take care! Theodolyte (talk) 01:47, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Looks like it has already been done, so your QD request has been supported by another admin. You had certainly recognised the signs of a non notable article, and well done for checking thoroughly the other wikis. I agree with you that is not usually worth battling with an IP, so a report like the one above will be seen and acted upon. We often read each others talk pages. If you want quick action, a message on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard will come to the attention of any admin who is online. keep up the good work. --Peterdownunder (talk) 08:15, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much fo the follow-up. I could see where the IP was trying to push the achievement of the subject. But, to me, they did not meet notability standards set by the project. Thank you for the kind words and advice. Take care! Theodolyte (talk) 21:50, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is it true you are seeking to "adopt" a user - that is, help them around? Then could you adopt me? I'm still a beginner, and I make lots of mistakes; and I am sure it would give me far greater pleasure be adopted by someone I already know and esteem than by a stranger.^^ Classical Esther (talk) 03:22, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Pretty Lydie. Could you please help me? I accidentally made about three or four IDs, but I don't use them. Could you delete them for me? Their names are, Faithful Mary, Peaceful Paul, Lionel234, and H. Eittocs. Of course, Pretty Lydie you don't need to delete, and Classical Esther is not my page, but only the e-mail adress is mine (because Esther iddn't want to put in her e-mail adress). Thanks! Accident. Thought something (such as a compromised account) might be happening. However, I did not fully research the issue. When the page saved, I saw the thread. Griffinofwales (talk) 22:31, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
No problem, just remember to call her?
Griffinofwales - thanks for keeping your eye on the recent changes, and you did the right thing to challenge me if you thought something odd was going on. --Peterdownunder (talk) 22:41, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

<-outdent Hey Peter, I have to admit I personally don't like talk page protections though I do understand wanting to try and clean up the accounts especially since they were nice enough to come out and ask for help. I was wondering if you would be open to blocking the accounts and redirecting the pages to the main account (at least talk pages maybe both user and talk) and protecting the redirect? That way the accounts can't edit but they can be traced back to the main account if anyone is looking for them (they do have edits on en so it is possible that someone would see it at some point, though unlikely) James (T|C) 23:00, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi James, I like that idea, seems to be a bit clearer, please feel free to do it. I'm about to head off into the real world for a while. Peterdownunder (talk) 23:04, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not userspace

change

FYI, but H. Eittocs is not in the username space. :) --Bsadowski1(Talk|Changes) 22:49, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe H. Ettiocs user is on the English Wikipedia, and most of the others, as well. Classical Esther (talk) 03:11, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

H. Ettiocs and the other accounts here have been retired. As well an indefinite block has been put on them so that they can not be used unless an administrator removes the block. This will mean that Pretty Lydie can not be accused of sock puppetry. Even on the English Wikipedia, as long as she doesn't use the other accounts, there will be no problem. --Peterdownunder (talk) 03:23, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's very kind of you! PrettyLydie is very relieved, and has learned a valuable lesson from this incident. Thank you for your help! Classical Esther (talk) 03:33, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
