- Thank you. LagoonGoose (talk) 18:03, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Koavf, I really like this page https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WantedPages&limit=500&offset=0
- Do other languages have that, or is it just here?
- LagoonGoose (talk) 18:13, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- WantedPages is a standard report on other wikis, yes. Sometimes on en.wp, these reports will fail, as that wiki is so large. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 18:17, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Koavf oh, that explains it 😆 this will be why I had your page open on my phone.
- Your profile page here redirected me to your page on en, so I asked a question there. Just trivial curiosity, wondering why your profile lists a language you don't speak as well as languages you do?
- But, what I was going to ask here is: where do I find that list on other wikis?
- Also, this page is on the request list https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Articles_with_dead_external_links_from_December_2015&action=edit&redlink=1 but gives me a warning not to create it, "deleted for being empty", but it now has over a thousand requests. But it seems to be a weird kind of page?
- LagoonGoose (talk) 12:56, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- I had kinda/sorta wanted to learn Hausa years ago and put it there, but that was silly. To find that list on other wikis, check Special:SpecialPages or just go to [whateverwiki]/wiki/Special:WantedPages. Those maintenance categories are periodically deleted once they are emptied and it is empty now--there are no articles in that category. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 17:51, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Koavf Then what are the thousand pages looking to it? LagoonGoose (talk) 03:46, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- There are only a couple dozen links (due to other maintenance categories): https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Category:Articles_with_dead_external_links_from_December_2015&limit=500 and there are no pages in Category:Articles_with_dead_external_links_from_December_2015. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 04:04, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Categories...
changeHello, and welcome to our Wikipedia. Thank you for translating pages. I just wanted to point out, that our category system is sometimes different than the one EnWP uses. Two perhaps noticealbe differences:
- Generally, we don't classify by gender (doesn't concern you much, as you seem to be creating geography-related articles)
- Anyone is free to create categories, as needed, but we want at least 3 entries per category (pages/subcategories combined).
When you get the time, take a quick look at Wikipedia:Categories to get the full information. Thank you Eptalon (talk) 15:20, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Are any of my current categories a problem? Or is this just a note for future? LagoonGoose (talk) 13:55, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Am I crediting my translations correctly? I asked somewhere when first made my account, but then I lost my password for months and I'm not sure I remember now. LagoonGoose (talk) 13:57, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Eptalon I hope it's ok, I copied the banner on your English Wikipedia talk page for my own? And have you user paste a language link in return. LagoonGoose (talk) 12:32, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- I tried to copy the archives off your talk page here, but I don't think I did it right? Unless the box doesn't show up till there's an archive to put in it? LagoonGoose (talk) 12:34, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- There's a few categories I am leaving on red till I have three pages, it's that right? I've added them to the first page or two and I'll delete them if I don't find a or translate a third relevant page within a few days. LagoonGoose (talk) 02:00, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- As in delete the red link to not yet created category that's on the first one or two pages. If I leave them all unmarked till I've got three at once I'll lose three first two before I find the third. LagoonGoose (talk) 02:05, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- I hope I did this right? Category:Palestine refugee camps I changed the name on every page, then moved it to the new name instead of deleting and making a new one, incase it was connected to matching categories in other Wikipedias. LagoonGoose (talk) 07:45, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Transwiki attribution
changeSee WP:Transwiki attribution to see how to use this. Add {{translated page|es|Escepticismo filosófico|version=51708082}} to the talk pages of the pages you translated from another language. Its better than the revision history. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 10:47, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cactusisme thank you, I've been adding the info to the talk pages, but I want sure if there was a specific way to do it. I'll add that, LagoonGoose (talk) 10:51, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cactusisme, How do I find the version number? LagoonGoose (talk) 12:20, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Look at the latest diff Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 07:14, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- So far on most of them I've been doing something like this: Talk:Recruiting (Army). I copy paste the version history note and it seems to automatically format the links etc. with a link to the right version. Then I rephrase a bit too make it make sense as a talk page message. Do I need to add the template to those or is it redundant? LagoonGoose (talk) 20:36, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- add the template Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 07:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- and not the simple English version, just the English or whichever language you transtead from. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 07:16, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cactusisme sorry, what do you mean by "not the Simple English" version? Do you mean I don't need to add a version number for the destination page? LagoonGoose (talk) 07:35, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

- Is it needed on templates? I've not been doing it on templates because most of them seem to be copied if English wiki and they still just have it in the edit summaries. But possibly prior editors are getting that wrong? LagoonGoose (talk) 22:12, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- I don't really know about that. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 07:14, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

changeHello, LagoonGoose! Here at Simple English Wikipedia we use the section heading "Related pages" instead of English Wikipedia's "See also", which you used in "Contemporary Palestinian Revolution". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Related pages" in articles that you create in the future. Thank you for your help! MathXplore (talk) 12:39, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @MathXplore, thanks for linking the page, I've changed it on most of them, I think? I must have forgotten on that one. LagoonGoose (talk) 13:24, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
user space
changeWelcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make changes here. But pages should not be moved, like you did to Template:Hamas biographies, without a good reason. They need to have a name that is accurate and simple, and that people will recognize. Wikipedia has some guidelines to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if users are talking about moving a page, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you have a question about this, please ask on Simple talk. Thank you. MidTV wrote this message. (talk) 17:50, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Midtv22342 sorry, I was trying to move it to my own user space to work on as a draft, but it didn't work how I expected it would. If I'm translating a page and pick "personal draft" it automatically goes in my own user space, but that ended up with no user name? LagoonGoose (talk) 22:09, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know. Just take this as a warning and be a little more careful with stuff similar to this. Not trying to get onto you, just trying to help out. I'm getting acquainted with Twinkle and Wikipedia as a whole right now and not everything goes as expected. MidTV wrote this message. (talk) 12:24, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. LagoonGoose (talk) 01:19, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- If you would like to move the template to your user subpage, I can assist with that. However, you can still continue editing the draft while it remains in the mainspace. – Cyber.Eyes.2005Talk 12:41, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Cyber.Eyes.2005 I thought it wasn't good to leave drafts in the public Wikipedia? LagoonGoose (talk) 01:19, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- If articles are merely test pages, they certainly shouldn't be in the mainspace. However, if only slight improvements are needed, I believe it’s more efficient to make those changes directly in the mainspace. – Cyber.Eyes.2005Talk 10:58, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Links to Arabic Wikipedia
changeAs for Special:Diff/9763071:
The vast majority of readers here can't read Arabic. Without explanation, adding links to other language Wikipedias (except English) doesn't help them. Please keep such links to a minimum. Batrachoseps (talk) 17:01, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- I've removed them now. I was looking for the local versions of those pages. It was only going to be temporary for an hour or less, but I'll do it a different way so I don't leave untidy stuff in main space. LagoonGoose (talk) 17:13, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- As in I was going to change the names to English when I found the pages. LagoonGoose (talk) 17:15, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. I think it's better to do it outside of mainspace, but I understand now, and it's not really a problem if you remove them shortly. Batrachoseps (talk) 17:17, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was trying to use the translation platform to do then all automatically, and that only works on pages in main space, but it didn't work the way I was trying to do it, so I'll do it a different way next time anyway. And I'll put a more informative edit summary on anything else I intended to be temporary. LagoonGoose (talk) 17:29, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

changeHello, thank you for your contributions. Please, use {{ill}} only when the article does not exist on Simple English Wikipedia. Thank you. Happy editing! :) ✩ Dream Indigo ✩ 23:07, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- where do you mean? LagoonGoose (talk) 23:09, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- For example: Special:Diff/9758058 (Saleh al-Arouri) and Special:Diff/9763746 (Tulkarm). Those articles already existed. ✩ Dream Indigo ✩ 23:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the examples, I didn't do that intentionally, I'll try to be more careful. The Tulkarm one was an issue with the city vs the province (I didn't notice we already had it because we didn't have Tulkarm City), I'm not sure what happened with the other one. Any others that end up like that are where I've put the link in before I added the corresponding page. But those two I seem to have just got muddled. LagoonGoose (talk) 00:43, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

- It's tricky to spot sometimes because they look like normal links. List of armed forces in the Arab World has a few somewhere. I just copied it from my sandbox in English Wikipedia and they disappeared, but they might be still be there in the code. LagoonGoose (talk) 21:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- You are right, it's very tricky to find them. Here's the secret to spot them: click "change source" on your screen, then "Ctrl+F" on your keyboard and type in "{{ill|". The results should be highlighted. Always keep the preview open on the right part of the screen, to see if the links are red or blue. ✩ Dream Indigo ✩ 20:11, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's more of an issue if there are a few of each, if there's a lot of ill and a few are blue, it's easy to miss some. But I'll check them all one at a time if needed. Why do they need to be removed? LagoonGoose (talk) 00:10, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- Because they use an expensive parser function, because the bot that should remove them once they become blue doesn't work all the times, and to decrease the backlog. But no worries if you miss some, it's not a big deal :) In my first message, I just wanted to make sure you weren't using it with blue links intentionally. Happy editing :D ✩ Dream Indigo ✩ 11:34, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Probably move to "Category:LGBT-related controversies"
changeAs for Category:LGBT-related controversies in the United States, Palestine does not belong there. Batrachoseps (talk) 02:32, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- It does belong there. The issue of LGBT rights in Palestine is controversial in the USA. Example "The Gaza War Is Dividing the L.G.B.T.Q. Community" from New York Times. The article is paywalled, but it's enough to see what the controversy is and where it is. The issue is LGBT rights in Palestine and that issue is controversial in the United States. It's not only in the USA, but it's probably most controversial there. The category was already used on another page and it fits. LagoonGoose (talk) 03:12, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. It makes sense when you explain that, but that content is missing from the article so it's otherwise unclear. Batrachoseps (talk) 03:16, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- You can move it up a level if you really want, it is a bit indirectly related. It just came up on the list when I was looking for categories that already had a page or two here. LagoonGoose (talk) 03:37, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- As in merge it with Category:LGBT-related controversies. LagoonGoose (talk) 03:38, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Types of military forces. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. --Ferien (talk) 22:17, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Ferien I think that needs to be merged carefully please. English, Arabic, and Hebrew use different systems for labeling those categories, and I've been trying hard to work out how to do ours in a way that's as compatible as possible wuthering all of them. If I recall correctly, that is a translation of the Arabic category that corresponds to a piped category in English? I'm not really sure how piped categories work, is there a good help page to explain them? And is it possible to link the category to a piped category in Wiki Data. LagoonGoose (talk) 23:59, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Actually that one might be simpler than I thought, it's in heaps of languages. I'll add it to the 3+ of the corresponding pages we have here. Category:Military forces seems to be higher level so I'll replace that with Category:Types of military forces on pages that have that already. e.g.
- remove Category:Military forces written as [ [Category:Military forces] ]
- add Category:Types of military forces written as [ [Category:Types of military forces] ]
- keep Category:Military forces by type: Air force written as [ [Category:Military forces by type |Air force] ]
- keep Category:Air force written as: [ [Category:Air force| ] ]
- How does the pipe work on the last two? that has been confusing me but I can't find a help page that explains it well. LagoonGoose (talk) 00:20, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

OrganiSations vs. organiZations
changeHi. LagoonGoose. I saw that you renamed some categories to use the S-spelling of this word. I changed them back. Please don't change between varieties of English without a good reason. The three categories I changed back were not specific to a particular country or region, so they should be kept with their original spelling. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 11:22, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Things that are different here
changeHi, LagoonGoose. It occurred to me that you might not know about things that are different at this wiki. I maintain this list of things that are not the same as on other Wikipedias. The list itself is not a policy or guideline, but it links to some relevant policies and guidelines. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about it. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:41, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Auntof6 thank you. Is there something in particular I've got wrong? LagoonGoose (talk) 17:49, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- No, I just thought of this because of the discussion about stubs. That's one of the things on the list. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:53, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
New templates
changeHi, LagoonGoose. I noticed that you have created some navigational box templates. For example, Template:USA area codes, Template:Australia topics, Template:Tel Aviv District, and Template:Military ranks. When you create any template, please make sure it's used. When you create a navigational template, put it on all the pages that have blue links on the body of the template. If a navbox isn't on all those pages, it isn't doing its full job and we might as well not have it.
Please go back to the templates you have created and add them to all relevant articles. I realize that might be a lot of work with some of them, but it's what is needed with templates. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:51, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/Template:EMSworld and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
