Be careful to check each page with a template you've changed present on it. If you'll look at Wikipedia:Username, the updated template is broken. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:30, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you also centre the template rather than left-align it? --Gwib -(talk)- 06:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, by default, it's aligned left. I'll see if I can alter it to centre align it, hang on. ס Talk 06:36, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
kthnxbai. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:38, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it can be aligned centre. I'll ask around, but personally, I don't know how to align the text centre. ס Talk 06:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think you should stop updating templates for now. You barely waited on ST for users to voice opinions. Try waiting about a day (most editors edit in the evening) until you start editing. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:42, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good work

Hey Samekh. Good work lately, particularly with your work with articles and templates. :) I hope you'll continue to contribute to Simple English Wikipedia! – RyanCross (talk) 05:04, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Two points

One point bot, one point user:

1. Your signature, while it works fine on Mozilla and Safari based browsers, causes big problems with IE browsers. The text of the person that edits directly under you is half covered up by your message due to an issue with line spacing in IE.

2. I would strongly suggest being careful on what templates get subst'ed - mainly on which pages you do it. Some people do not like others editting their user space and the subst of BS can bring up issues. For example, all your edits to my archives were reverted; I am fine with the templates as is and prefer my archives (and user-space in general) to remain in its original form. Other are totaly fine with people editing their user space, but some people are not. Content editing is one thing, but style editing can bring up issues. -- Creol(talk) 06:21, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sig

Hello, there seems to be an issue with your signature. It is bunching all the lines together and making your (and other) comments hard to read. A good example is here. Kennedy (talk) 09:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • I have an issue with your bot running to fix your signature - too many diffs on my watchlist - but its done now I guess. I am not convinced that your signature is still resolved since I cannot actually read your name from looking at your signature - a little less style would be appreciated. Have you read WP:SIG? For example when referrring to other scripts - As a courtesy to the rest of the contributors, users with such usernames should sign their posts (at least in part) with Latin characters. Your name has Latin characters but you choose not to use them. This user finds it a bit annoying. --Matilda (talk) 19:24, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • I disagree. I think at the moment his signature is fine. Its a little long perhaps (in the edit window), but not as bad as some. He does have "Talk" in latin characters, and if you roll over it, you see his username. I assume the "ס" means Samekh in Hebrew? Kennedy (talk) 09:21, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
      • I've considered whether or not to respond to your comment, Matilda, but think it's wise if I do. I don't think my signature is inappropriate, or unacceptable. I know some people like very simple signatures, I decided to go for something slightly more complex. In my signature, the ס, is a Samekh, hence where I got my username from., which I chose so I could sign my name with a single letter. As Kennedy points out, ס is hebrew for Samekh. As for my bot updating my signature, I see no other way this could've been done better. The signature needed to be fixed. It would've taken longer for me to do it manually, which would also flood recent changes. This was the best way I thought the task could be done. ס Talk 10:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
        • It is your choice not to comply with the guideline at WP:SIG but please don't say nobody told you what the guideline was - I again draw your attention to it: As a courtesy to the rest of the contributors, users with such usernames should sign their posts (at least in part) with Latin characters. I had gathered it was the Hebrew character and I have since noted you said as much on your talk page. In my view your disregard of the guideline is not in keeping with the purpose of simple English wikipedia as it is not reader friendly - mouseover is no substitute. I won't say anything more on the subject. --Matilda (talk) 04:26, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

your comments on my RFa

You said you have a feeling that I would use the tool to enforce censorship. While yes I think some of the extreme things should not be on the front page I do not think Wikipedia should be censored except for a few images when their are medical diagrams that can serve the same purpose just as well and it's not the real thing.....my point is I would do no such thing cause that would be an abusing of adminship, and me as a Christian just wouldn't do that. I would properly take it up with the community, for a consensus. Thank you.--   ChristianMan16  19:02, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. It's just my point of view. ס Talk 19:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

How many hits per article

Hi I would like to find out if there is any way possible of finding out how many hits an article receives. I know you can do this on en wiki but what about the simple en wiki. Also I started this account on simple and when I went to the en wiki I automatically had an account over there as well. How can this be.--Sunnah and Hadith ***THE MUZI*** (talk)

Okay, to answer your questions.

  1. - I'm not too sure if this can be done on simple wikipedia. Let me have a look around and I'll get back to you.
  2. - Wikimedia now has a unified login system. This means if you go to another wiki, an account will automatically be created for you.

Best, ס Talk 08:26, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nations Cup

Name change

I have rotated the names Steve Crossin and Samekh. The bot was also renamed and the link from the bot page corrected to the new name. The next step is all on you though. With the move of Samekh, about 4 gazillion redirects got created. The User and User talk should probable at least get a soft redirect to reflect the move, but the rest should have all the links fixed and then tagged for quick delete. While I do tend to do this many times, given the number of subpages involved, I will leave it to you to clean that part up. -- Creol(talk) 07:55, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

My bot can fix double redirects, I'll get on that right away. I'll see what I can do to clean stuff up. Thanks for the rename :) SteveTalk 07:56, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Steve?

You're late for dinner!!!! Just kidding, seriously though, I have a question. Can your bot do a task for me? VandalFighterFR bad warning? 22:30, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maybe you should ask what you want it to do, so then he can confirm whether it can or can't. :-) Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 22:31, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow, I can't believe I forgot. Anyway, the task is moving pages that don't seem encyclopedia to the right namespace that the article seems like. VandalFighterFR bad warning? 22:59, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Without any knowledge of bots, I can say that the task requires human judgement. Only humans an judge whether a page is encyclopedic, with the exception of pages created for vandalism (containing expletives, etc). A bot can't decide whether an article doesn't seem to fit into the encyclopedia. Secondly, only humans can know which namespace such an article should go into, if it was created in error. Thirdly, such pages are created very rarely, and won't require a bot to take care of the workload. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 23:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
*points to Peter's TL;DR post above* What he said :) Bots have no AI, or at least, nowhere near enough to perform a task such as this one, and it's not something that happens in such high volume that would need a bot to do it. SteveTalk 08:15, 27 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
