Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia

Hi, Mr. Berty, welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes. If you need help, check out the Help section of Wikipedia, or leave a message on my talk page. Whenever leaving messages on talk pages, please remember to sign your name by typing four 'tildes' (like this: ~~~~); doing this makes your name and the date show up. Also, it helps if you write something in the box that says 'change summary' whenever you change an article. Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler. Happy changing!   We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but an article you created was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that, as such articles are usually too complex and may have templates that do not exist here. Thank you. Kansan (talk) 17:31, 27 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Note

Hello, Mr. Berty. Thank you for your changes here. :) However, I was wondering if your warning to MajikAly was necessary. It seems that the change was made in good faith, as his change was simply unlinking the term spirits, which leads to an article about corporeal substances, which was not the term the article was referring to, I believe. Remember, we all have to try and be as gentle as possible to the newcomers. Please keep this in mind in the future. Kindly, —Clementina talk 12:57, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Restriction

After consulting with other admins, you are now restricted to one account on this wiki. Creating or using other accounts on this wiki will cause you do be blocked indefinitely. Consider this your only warning. Griffinofwales (talk) 23:34, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Blocked for two weeks

I have blocked you for a period of two weeks. This is because of your actions on this wiki regarding your "jail sentence" on enwiki. We are not here as a rehabilitation and/or parole centre for any other project and we resent the insinuation. Let this serve as notice to others contemplating using simplewiki in a similar fashion. As Griffin has stated above you are limited to one account on this project. I suggest you spend the next two weeks deciding if you want to be an active member of this project for its sake or if you are here just to prove something to enwiki. If the latter, consider elsewhere. fr33kman 00:20, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've unblocked you, see ANB. Exert 02:35, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Digital object-identifier

I have nominated this page for quick deletion as it was (before I mistakenly copyedited it) a poorly written version of digital object identifier. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 16:08, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletions

A BLP being unreferenced is definitely a bad situation, but generally, it's a good idea to see if it can be sourced before deleting it (which we try to do in such circumstances). If the person isn't notable, by all means, it can be deleted, but in this case, the subject of the article was very notable. Kansan (talk) 18:48, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'd recommend removing the mention of that so people don't get confused. If you're looking for a clean start as a good user on this wiki, you don't want to remind people of the past. Kansan (talk) 17:21, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Civility

Dear Mr. Berty, thank you for your help around Simple English Wikipedia. However, I was rather concerned bythis change you made to Toboar's talk page. We should encourage and be kind to everyone, but especially to new users (and Toboar was relatively new). I really don't see why you needed to "shoutily" put NOT NOW in capitals (which is considered shouting, and therefore very rude, on the Internet) - something which many other users had already said to him. Please keep this in mind in the future and try to be careful and kind to new users. Thank you, —Clementina talk 09:50, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Besides, it is all right that people had failed their RFA. Even I failed before due to the same reason. What you have done will certainly discourage him from continuing editing Simple English Wikipedia, even affecting him to edit Wikimedia projects. Hydriz (talk) 09:53, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think he'll see it as a joke, as it was supposed to be. Also, we've been friends on here ever since he came on here. Have you ever laughed?Mr. Berty (seasons greetings!) talk/stalk 15:50, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's harder to detect sarcasm/humor on the Internet than when you're talking on person, because a big part of showing that you're not serious is through the tone/inflection of your voice. That doesn't come across on the Internet. I've also noticed that, after other users have warned users or IPs for vandalism, you've sometimes piled on with sarcastic/humorous comments. Those may not make people want to stop vandalizing, but may just anger them and make them continue. I would advise you to listen to Clementina's advice - she's a wise user. Keep up your good anti-vandalism work here, though! Kansan (talk) 15:57, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

An admin told you to be civil, and another then re-stated that. Instead of ignoring that, listen to it. The admins usually know what they are talking about.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 16:15, 17 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please be serious.

[1] This is the kind of edit that lead people to think that you're not being serious here. Posting this on IP pages is likely to completely confuse people (especially if it's an IP that somebody else uses later on, like if it's a school or library IP). Please do not make such comments in the future. Remember that you are on a "one strike" rule here. Kansan (talk) 20:46, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Writing better stubs

Hi Mr.Berty, a one sentence stub simply does not have enough info to show notability. If you need to create a stub, go for at least three sentences, and add a reference. It will not take you much longer, and will create something that has some information for our readers. Look at John Reith for example. You could have:

  • Added his full name: "John Charles Walsham Reith"
  • Put in his birth and death dates: July 20, 1889 - June 16, 1971
  • Write about him being the first manager and director of the BBC
  • The dates he held this job 1922 - 1938
  • His knighthood in 1926, which he thought was not high enough, he said it was "an insult".
  • He admired Mussolini and thought Hitler was "magnificently efficient".
  • His work with the navy in WWII
  • Put in a reference. I found out all the above in 5 minutes from [2]

With that you would have a terrific stub, and have created a good start to an interesting article. Show me how good you can be! Good luck and keep writing Peterdownunder (talk) 10:39, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! Since you are a minor per law, I've removed some personal information about you from your talk page and also elsewhere. Another oversighter removed this from your userpage. It's better to not give anyone on the internet your age, name, address or similar personal information. It's not good to post such information on wikipedia, that's why I've removed this stuff; to protect you. Hope you don't mind. If you've any question to this, it might be better not to talk about this on-wiki, but feel free to send me a mail. -Barras(talk) 12:37, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Simplifying from the English Wikipedia

Hi Mr. Berty, you have done a good job with the music articles. When you use an English Wikipedia page as the starting point to simplifying an article, you need to put a note on the talk page of the new article to acknowledge this fact. This helps with copyright issues. Because we all do this quite often, we have a special template to put on the talk page. English wiki acnowledge template: {{Enwp based | url= (add full address here) }} On the original enwiki page click on the toolbox "Permanent link" and then copy and paste the page address into the template on the new talk page. I have done Talk: Neneh Cherry so you can see how it looks.Peterdownunder (talk) 21:53, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure. I suppose I should take this slogan: First Past the Post. Mr. Berty (seasons greetings!) talk/stalk 13:48, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well no thats not a good idea. At least give people the chance to finish what they started. If they forget then brilliant you can do it for them. Otherwise, I reverted, I should warn. Regards Normandie Talk! 13:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
And sometimes the person who did the undo didn't warn them on purpose. This is very often the case. -DJSasso (talk) 14:16, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, and I step in to do it. Mr. Berty (seasons greetings!)talk/stalk 14:18, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
And that would be the wrong thing to do. If the person who did the revert didn't warn them you should not warn them. There may be a reason they didn't warn them. -DJSasso (talk) 14:20, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
See above such example. Mr. Berty (seasons greetings!)talk/stalk 14:22, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit conflicts

Hi there, just a courtesy note to let you know that it's generally bad form to 'pounce' on established editor's articles, as you just did withOld Street station that I just created. Apart from the fact you made me edit-conflict, the change you made is somewhat useless as it does the same thing as reflist which really only comes to be of use when there are more than two edits. Please don't do it again (the change or the pouncing). Goblin 19:27, 11 January 2011 (UTC) I ♥ Nifky!Reply
