Bro! All those articles you recently deleted are modified at large scale levels. They are given much efforts from my side to be simplified. Even at the talk pages of many of those pages, User:Darkfrog24 & I were discussing of different ways to simplify it. Please undelete them. I will do further simplification. Please. Haoreima (talk) 19:01, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: I just deleted more than 10 articles that you copied from English Wikipedia and changed a few words, often to another complex word. They aged in range from being created today to being created in late 2022. I do not believe you had any intent of simplifying anything further since you hadn't addressed the articles from 2022. Simple English Wikipedia strives to use a limited wordlist which is easy for everyone to understand. Our pages are not supposed to be a copy of English Wikipedia with slightly different words. Writing appropriate pages here is hard. I will not be undeleting any of the pages as they were not simple English. Please see WP:HOW before creating any more pages. Operator873 connect 19:03, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Haoreima is indeed trying to improve those articles so they can count toward the point total in the 2023 Feminism and Folklore Write-a-Thon. But Op's just pointed out that Haoreima has stopped editing multiple articles that were still not simple enough before.
Op, would you be amenable to restoring one article at at time? Haoreima could simplify, say Kangla Sha, and then you could restore another if and only if that first article passes muster. How do you feel about this, Haoreima? Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:23, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24: @Haoreima: No, I would not be willing to restore one page at a time. These deleted articles were in such a state that if you'd like them restored, you can refer to the currently existing English Wikipedia copy. Haoreima needs to understand words like associated, recognition, delegates, etc are not simple English and that writing in simple English is quite difficult. I understand wanting to expand the wiki and especially needing to include better articles about Feminism and women in general. However, creating bad articles is not the way. This has been a long-term and on-going issue as I'm currently looking at articles from April 2022 that are near exact copies as well. Operator873 connect 19:29, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: I'll be willing to stop further deletions and allow you time to simplify the pages you've created from May 2021 and onwards. Monday, I will resume deleting pages that are copied from English Wikipedia with little or no simplification. I hope any newly created pages are not copied from English Wikipedia and feature simple English. Operator873 connect 20:18, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
As a side note, I realize writing original pages in simple English is difficult. It is very hard, in fact. But, with your background, I bet you can write some outstanding pages, once you acclimatize to the standards here. Operator873 connect 20:22, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Bro! It's ok. I will try at my best level to simplify them. If found still unsuitable, please delete them. No worries. I will start simplifying them from today onwards. But completing all of them before Monday (tomorrow) will be somewhat hard for me. Kindly extend the last date a little bit. Thanks. Haoreima (talk) 14:37, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Bot873 processing changed?

change

I have had User talk:Auntof6/Newsletters set up for a long time to be archived by the archiving bot. The parameters I set are supposed to put the archived data on a page whose name indicates the month in which the archive is done.

It looks like Bot873 isn't doing that. I currently have two archives out there.

Is it possible that Bot873 is interpreting the month parameter as a quarter parameter instead? I know this used to be handled correctly in the past. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. -- Auntof6 (talk) 08:39, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Auntof6: Nothing has changed with Bot873 and I haven't pulled any updates to it. I did notice that the User:MiszaBot/config template on User talk:Auntof6/Newsletters contains a |counter = 1 part which is normally used for archiving pages with Archive 1, Archive 2, etc. This may be confusing the bot a little bit since you're wanting to archive by year and month. The config says counter is ignored if %(counter)d isn't used, but I've seen stranger things happen. Lets try removing that part of the template and see if it fixes the weirdness. Operator873 connect 19:18, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK, I removed the counter parameter and will wait to see what happens next time. It's interesting, though, that it worked correctly with that parameter for a long time. Fortunately, this isn't urgent because I routinely delete the older archives anyway. Thanks for your reply. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:22, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: Yeah I noticed that it hadn't been changed in a long while. And it's more confusing since I haven't done any code updates since Bot873 was created. Very very very weird. I'll go thumb through logs and see if there are any glaring red flags. Thanks for letting me know. Operator873 connect 19:28, 3 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

You know, I think I may have misunderstood how the archiving is being done. User talk:Auntof6/Newsletters/Archives/2023 2 doesn't contain things that were archived in February. It contains things from February that were archived. I was just looking at the most recent archive, which has the suffix "3", and it has things from March. I thought the month identifier was the month of the archive rather than the content, but I can live with it this way. Sorry for the bother! --Auntof6 (talk) 06:33, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to Organize Feminism and Folklore 2024 Writing Competition

change

Please help translate to your language

Dear Operator873/Archive 12,

Hope you are doing well, Wishing you a Happy New Year!.

We extend a heartfelt invitation to you to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2024 writing competition, which is scheduled to take place from February 1, 2024, to March 31, 2024. This year's edition of Feminism and Folklore will concentrate on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics, aligning with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and featuring a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.

This year we have created two new Tools for the Feminism and Folklore project. The tool is called Campwiz. This tool is created by the international Tech team of Wiki Loves Folkore especially crafted for Feminism and Folklore project. The tool works as same as fountain or dashboard but has extra abilities required for jury and submission of articles.

To create a new campaign on Campwiz, organizers to follow these steps:

  1. Go to the tool link: https://tools.wikilovesfolklore.org/
  2. Select your wiki on which you want to organize the campaign (enter the name or short code, such as "en" for English Wikipedia).
  3. Give your campaign a name example "Feminism and Folklore 2024 on English Wikipedia)".
  4. Select the start and end dates (note: keep your start date as Feb 1 and end date as March 31).
  5. Provide a description for your campaign (you can briefly describe the campaign in this section).
  6. Make sure to keep the checkboxes ticked for "Allow users to submit articles that were not created but expanded." if you want to use the campaign for expanded articles also.
  7. Keep minimum added bytes as 4000 and minimum added words as 400 and click next.
  8. In the jury section, keep the checkboxes ticked for "Allow jury members to participate in the campaign" and "Prevent jury members from seeing each other's votes." As per your preference.
  9. Under the jury search box, type the username of your jury and click on the "+" button to add; you can add multiple jury members.
  10. Click next to review and then click on save.

With this we have also created a Missing article tool. This tool identifies articles in the English Wikipedia that are absent from your native language Wikipedia. You can customize your selection criteria, and our tool will provide you with a table displaying the missing articles along with suggested titles. You also have the option to download the list in both CSV and wikitable formats.

Both tools, the Missing Article Tool and the Campwiz Tool, are now available for public use during the Feminism and Folklore campaign. You can find more information about these tools here: https://tools.wikilovesfolklore.org/

There are also some changes in the rules and criteria's. Please go through the rules below.

  1. Minimum Length: The expanded or new article should have a minimum of 4000 bytes or 400 words, ensuring sufficient depth and coverage of the chosen topic. The local organizers are free to choose the minimum length criteria as per needs of their local Wikipedia and must be clearly mention on local project page.
  2. Language Quality: Articles should not be poorly machine-translated, ensuring that language quality and readability are maintained at a high standard.
  3. Timeline of Creation or Expansion: The article should be created or expanded between 1 February and 31 March, aligning with the specified contest timeline.
  4. Theme Relevance: Articles should directly address the theme of feminism and folklore, exploring connections between gender, cultural traditions, and intangible heritage.
  5. No Orphaned Articles: Articles must not be orphaned, meaning they should be linked from at least one other article to ensure visibility within the Wikipedia ecosystem.
  6. No Copyright violations: There should be no copyright violations, and articles should adhere to local Wikipedia policies on notability, ensuring that the content meets the standards for notability.
  7. Adequate references and Citations: Each article should include proper references and citations following local Wikipedia policies, ensuring the reliability and credibility of the information presented.

Learn more about the contest details and prizes on our project page here. Should you require any assistance, please feel free to contact us on our meta talk page or via email.

We eagerly anticipate your enthusiastic coordination and participation in Feminism and Folklore 2024.

Thank you and Best wishes,

Feminism and Folklore 2024 International Team

Honest question, after reading your edit to Quatro de Fevereiro Airport- isn't "money problems" rather vague? Is someone learning English going to read that and understand what it means? I'm curious- I'm a native English speaker so maybe I'm wrong. SurferSquall (talk) 04:23, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@SurferSquall: Money problems is much more simple English than "financial difficulties." One of the challenges in writing simple English is conveying complex thoughts. Is there a reason your bot is not archiving the talk page? There are conversations over a year old on it. It was being archived by Sassobot and then got archived once by my bot prior to the blocking. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 05:46, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PotsdamLamb: Because the bot is not currently approved to archive in namespace 1 (Article talk). You're welcome to begin a proposal to have the bot archive in namespace 1 or specifically the Talk:Main Page, but I'm not sure if it would pass. Operator873 connect 22:28, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Operator873 Even though it was a drop in replacement for mine which was a drop in for Sassobot? I can start it though. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:30, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PotsdamLamb: on the approval page, please note the section that says Archive user talk pages where the has been placed and the template does not disallow bots or only allows Sassobot. as well as the 2nd item, Possess the capability to archive project/Wikipedia namespace pages as requested by the community.. So far, the community has only requested the bot maintain WP:ST and the sysops asked for our pages to be maintained. Whatever was in YOUR proposal does NOT apply to anything my bot does. Operator873 connect 22:34, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
It wasn’t on my approval. It was from yours where it was stated

Approved for trial (50 edits, and only with Pywikibot 7.6 or newer). Bot873 should respect all existing restrictions (across all namespaces) for the time being. --Chenzw Talk 04:33, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

However, as I read further down through the clarifications, I realized that part was taken out and set only for User talk pages. I’ll go ahead and start the request on Talk:Main Page and put the notice on Simple Talk. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:42, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@PotsdamLamb: Yes, the bot was given approval to operate under the conditions I specified in the bot description. You can't take permission to do item 1 and 2 and assume it means you can do 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. A bot may ONLY operate on the conditions specified by the operator. Your interpretation of that policy being quite lax is disturbing. In case you maybe misunderstood the blocked quote you provided, Chenzw was further clarifying that the bot should always respect restrictions, no matter where they were. Operator873 connect 22:59, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
As I stated as I read further down that is when I saw what it was approved for and what it was not approved for. It was a lack of fully reading it before I made the statement to you. I am not sure how you find that disturbing as it was a mistake on my part for not reading through the entire BRFA. Apologies for that. I’ll do better by you next time. Hi there Operator873. This user is still having issues with article creations. This includes drafts in their user space and other items they are making. They are populating and transcluding a lot of templates, which I was able to help them eliminate them. One error category linked back to 44 of their items. I just had to edit an article Watazumi Shrine to take out a lot of the issues that have been discussed a few times with them by various individuals, including admins. It is probably not helping either that a user with only a couple of months on this wiki is offering to move Immanuelles' pages to main space and saying they are "of publishing quality" (see User talk:SurferSquall#Issue with Nanba Shrine. I have had to edit a few of the users articles to remove issues that they have had when it comes to the mainspace. I will leave it up to you for action, but I wanted to make you aware since you banned them 2x from editing main space. This is another one [1] that has issues that the same user published for the editor, with the same mistakes. I have not made any corrections to it yet and will await your advice. @PotsdamLamb I apologize for this again. I didn't realize they were only a new user, so that does make me more wary of their judgment on them being of "publishing quality". Question

Ralebg Hello friend, can you please tell me was my page C-Infinity deleted? Have you even read what I wrote?

@Ralebg: Yes. I read it enough to know that it's a copy of your failed enwiki draft. If it didn't work on the English Wikipedia, it's not going to work here. Wikipedia is not for advertising or product promotion. And you certainly can't copy paste to try and force the article. The Simple English Wikipedia is much more difficult to write on since we have language restrictions. Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with our community prior to participating. Operator873 connect 21:31, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
It is not a just simple product promotion. C-Infinity is a revolutionary vr gaming platform that reduces nausea. Motion sickens in vr is a real deal among gamers. There are scientific papers in research about C-Infinity, one is published and cited in the article.
And you have products like Meta Quest, Oculus in Wikipedia.
You had a virtual reality fundraising campaign https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2016-2017_Virtual_Reality_Fundraising_campaign, you refenced an ArsTehnica article. The same tech magazine wrote about C-Infinity in february, I referenced that article..
But OK, you are the administrator, if you think it is not enough, we will wait a few more months for more research papers about C-Infinity to reference. Ralebg (talk) 22:00, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ralebg: I'm glad you admit and acknowledge you are violating the Pillars and Terms of Use by promoting a product. This is the only warning you'll receive on this project. But I have disclosed my affiliation with the company, as requested by wikipedia rules? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ralebg Ralebg (talk) 22:04, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ralebg: This isn't the English Wikipedia. This is the Simple English Wikipedia, an entirely separate project. Disclosing your conflict of interest only means you absolutely should not write about the things you're conflicted about. So again, don't do it here. Operator873 connect 22:06, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK. Will do as you say.
But you do have product articles

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogwarts_Legacy
Etc.. Ralebg (talk) 22:14, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Operator873, could you please help me with the vandals who I reported in WP:VIP? All of the IP's are in the same range and are vandalising Headcorn. Assuming they are from a school. Also, IRC is down. Cheers Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 14:10, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Hockeycatcat: I am not near a computer right now but IRC is not down. When you were online this morning, you weren't using my client. I have no control over Kiwi. Operator873 connect 16:20, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi again Operator873, IRC is letting me log in again now which is great - I know you do not have control over it, I was just letting you know since I would've contacted you through there instead. The vandals who I mentioned earlier have already been blocked by MathXplore (great addition to the admin team). Kind regards, Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 16:23, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rollback permissions

change

Hello, I'm trying to undo some vandalism on the Carlos Mencia page, but am being blocked because my edit is identified as harmful. I plan on doing some more anti-vandalism work here using SWViewer and was wondering if it would be possible to receive rollback permissions. I am already a rollbacker on enwiki (here is a link to my CentralAuth: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Ternera), so I am familiar with how it works and I have been using Huggle for some time now. Thanks! Ternera (talk) 16:46, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Ternera: if you're familiar with how it works, then you should also be familiar with the proper way to request it. My talk page isn't the right place. Operator873 connect 16:56, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for picking the incorrect place. You may want to edit the WP:ROLLBACK page, which says: "You may ask for rollback at Wikipedia:Requests for rollback or on an administrator's talk page." Ternera (talk) 17:02, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ternera: I don't know you. And I said above your ask that I'm not at a computer. I'm not sure what answer you were expecting. Operator873 connect 17:11, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Alright, sorry for bothering you. It sounds like I took that part of the page out of context. Ternera (talk) 17:21, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ruffling the lede

change

You removed link to Andreas Kaplan. Please find a way to link to his name in the Reference, then.--The bigger problem with your edit in the lede, will have to wait for another day (although some of that was okay). And no, the Kaplan thing is not a 'biggish' thing. 2001:2020:351:861F:8933:878E:F5F7:F57F (talk) 18:25, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@2001:2020:351:861F:8933:878E:F5F7:F57F: Perhaps you may want to review WP:HOW prior to contributing more to this project. We use a restrictive word list in our articles that you 'ruffle' rather often. Operator873 connect 18:32, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bohr radius

change

Just saying, the content I added was not a direct copy-paste from enwiki. For instance, here's the first paragraph of what I added:

The Bohr radius (a0) is a physical constant. It is approximately the most likely distance between the nucleus and the electron in a hydrogen atom in its ground state. It is named after Niels Bohr because it is used in the Bohr model of an atom. As a number, it is 5.29177210544(82) × 1011 m.

Versus enwiki:

The Bohr radius (a0) is a physical constant, approximately equal to the most probable distance between the nucleus and the electron in a hydrogen atom in its ground state. It is named after Niels Bohr, due to its role in the Bohr model of an atom. Its value is 5.29177210544(82)×10−11 m.

Thanks, 76.212.74.243 (talk) 18:52, 29 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@76.212.74.243: Precisely. The content you copied was not in simple English and therefore not appropriate. We use a limited word list on this project. Please review WP:HOW before further contributing. Operator873 connect 19:30, 29 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I see. I'm not very familiar with adding content yet - currently most of what I do here is countering cross-wiki vandals. Thank you for linking to these resources. 76.212.74.243 (talk) 19:49, 29 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
