Twinkle templates

change

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have edited the Template:You've got mail for removing the extra bold, and can an administrator please do the same to Template:Talkback? Thanks. Curtaintoad (talk) 05:32, 27 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Eight years later, this is still not fixed. Might be better to request at the template's talk, though. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 21:03, 9 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle rfd option to wrap with noinclude doesn't work

change

With the rfd function, Twinkle gives you a checkbox to allow wrapping the rfd template in "noinclude" tags. Checking that box doesn't seem to do anything. Could we either 1) make the function work or 2) replace the checkbox with a note about using "noinclude" tags if you're rfd'ing a template? --Auntof6 (talk) 23:25, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle seems to have stopped marking pages as patrolled

change

When I use Twinkle to do a QD, it is no longer marking the page as patrolled. Was that a deliberate change? --Auntof6 (talk) 19:58, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

QD U2 Notification

change

When I mark an anonymous IP user's user page, which shouldn't exist, with Twinkle as QD U2 and ask for notification of the author, the notification is not happening.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:01, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

The same is happening with QD G7.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:51, 24 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've noticed another change with Twinkle in the last few days or week or so: when I roll back a change, then click on the user's talk page to leave a message, it doesn't always insert the name of the page where the rollback happened. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:53, 24 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

VIP

change

Hi, Is there anyway this can be changed so that if a user you're reporting to VIP is already at VIP that it doesn't automatically redirect you there?,

For instance over at EN if a user is already reported at AIV it says:
"Processing AIV request: Report already present, will not add a new one
The comments you typed are provided below, in case you wish to manually post them under the existing report for this user at AIV:
Test for Simple EN - ignore this. ~~~~"

It would be far more helpful to have this action happen here so that if someone's already at VIP you can then copy and paste your rationale there as opposed to losing it all and essentially starting from scratch (Although you wouldn't copy/paste your whole reasoning you would copy atleast half of it which is what I do at EN if the user i'm reporting is already reported),

Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:57, 2 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

change

Hello, The "rollback" types this tool offer does not appear, today when I reverted vandalism, forced I to click "undo" on the vandalism edit. Today, also on the article Vitruvian Man, changed multiple IPs the article, the change was vandalism, but the "Restore this Version" link to the latest non-vandalism edit also does not appear, forced I to revert the change (s) manually by going to latest non-vandalism edit and click "Change" and then "Publish changes". Please fix this issue. -- Psl631 Leave me a message! my changes email me 08:08, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Double warns

change

When I tag an article with QD G3, it asks for more details twice, not once as with the other criteria, even if I tag it with other criteria. ~Prahlad balaji (t / c) 03:59, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Possible that you don't need to be autoconfirmed?

change

It appears that the welcome and talkback features do not require autoconfirmed-ness. Is this intentional? Computer Fizz (talk) 01:11, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Level one warning for test edits

change

When applying a level one warning for test edits, Twinkle should be applying template:Uw-test1 and, in fact, the template that is added to the user page indicates in hidden HTML that it is this template. But compare the template (at the above link) with the text actually applied, such as at User talk:24.217.81.183. The two are not the same. So what template is Twinkle actually applying? Is the wording hard-coded into Twinkle and simply not up to date with the actual template, or is Twinkle grabbing some other version? Etamni | ✉   17:35, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle is indeed using the actual template. The difference in the template texts is due to the extra parameter (page title) which Twinkle adds to the template. If you want to change the wording, the relevant parts are inside the #if parserfunction in the template's source code. Chenzw  Talk  02:27, 4 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Double loading styles

I found this in my console: Gadget "Twinkle" styles loaded twice. Migrate to type=general. See <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T42284>. --TerraCodes (talk) 03:21, 26 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle failed to add automatic tag to creator's talk page when marking for QD

change

See this edit: Addition of QD tag using Twinkle to the Eric huang article - I performed this edit using Twinkle, which normally adds a note to the talk page of the article creator when their article is selected for deletion. In this case, however, I had to add the QD note manually to the creator's talk page, as Twinkle did not put one there. I can only presume this was a blip, since it's never happened before, but it would be helpful if someone could look and find out what went wrong. Thanks! Can you add Template:uw-rfd?

change

I just made this template Template:uw-rfd, which is very similar to Template:uw-qd. It would be nice if someone could add it to Single-issue warnings on Twinkle. Thank you. Naddruf (talk) 02:05, 30 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please announce the new warning message at WP:ST to gather feedback and other input first. The warning message will be added to Twinkle once the community is fine with the wording etc. Chenzw  Talk  02:34, 30 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Using the [rollback] or [vandalism] button in Contributions

change

The rollback and vandalism buttons don't work in user contributions. If you press either of the buttons, it will go to a page called Page&twinklerevert=norm or Page&twinklerevert=vand, and nothing will be reverted. --Belwine💬📜 22:13, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle stuck on "Trying to find tags" when using QD

change

For some reason, when I try to submit my QD, Twinkle gets stuck on "Trying to find tags". What I have to do is just reset the page over and over, or bypass my cache (with ctrl+shift+r) and it will work sooner or later. This is very annoying and on one occasion I was forced to use the {{qd}} template so I can work on other things.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Angerxiety (talkcontribs) 03:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't really remember. Maybe on October 23? Angerxietythe ediot (chat?contribs to society) 04:18, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think I realized the problem. Twinkle is having a problem because I use RTRC. For some reason, RTRC doesn't send you to the original article. It sends you to a version with an rcid. (Whatever that means). Twinkle can't tag the page because it isn't the original article. Angerxiety 15:40, 19 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

New warnings

change

Please import from enwiki Level 1-4 and 4im for edit attempts that trigger the edit filter and are disallowed. en:Template:uw-attempt1 Then add them to twinkle please. Bobherry Talk My Changes 22:21, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure we need these. I have the following thoughts about it:
  • Doesn't the user get a message when their attempt fails? It seems to me that that would be enough. If we start warning people for things they only try to do, that could add to the workload here when we already don't keep up with things that actually are harmful.
  • A person whose edits fail edit filters aren't necessarily trying to do anything wrong. Not everyone knows that something they're trying to add won't be allowed. If they try to make a change, but it fails, nothing has been hurt.
By the way, only 10 people watch this page. (I'm one of them.) If you'd like more input on this, you might want to publicize it on a page that more people will see. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:47, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
As somebody who has dealt with edit filters: One should be careful when warning users who trip the edit filter. Some filters are known to have many false positives while also having their details invisible to regular users. A user might try to save their good-faith edit multiple times and trigger an LTA filter. Evaluation of these hidden filters should be left to an administrator. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 05:06, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Feature request - bypass save

change

Could we have an option to bypass saving the article? Sometimes I'd like to use Twinkle to tag a page, but there are other changes I'd like to make as well. An example is adding a stub tag and fixing typos as well. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:36, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle doesn't always put a warning in the correct section

change

Twinkle isn't always putting warnings in the section for the current month. The warnings seem to always go at the end of the page, so that they end up in the wrong section if the current-month section isn't the last section on the page. Can this be looked at, please? Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:40, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merge Twinkle talk pages?

change

I notice Twinkle discussions and bug reports are scattered across many pages. Thoughts on merging the following pages to here? I would probably put their existing posts at the top of this page or in the archive, then replace those pages with a redirect.

Novem Linguae (talk) 19:11, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Certainly a single place for discussion and bug reports are preferred to having piece-meal information all over the place. Which page do you recommend as the final discussion target? fr33kman 19:18, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I was thinking this talk page. Open to other ideas if anyone feels strongly though. Novem Linguae (talk) 19:19, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I too was thinking this talk page. I think you can go ahead and make the merges. If anyone else objects, which I deem unlikely, then it could be reversed. fr33kman 19:24, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Major bug?

change

Hey @Fehufanga. I think you mentioned on Discord that simplewiki Twinkle has a major bug. Would you mind describing it a bit here? I don't have time to become maintainer of this gadget, but I think I can make some time to look at one or two of the biggest bugs. Thanks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 03:16, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Novem Linguae sorry I didn't catch this ping earlier, I already have to log off for tonight. One of the bugs in simple's twinkle installation is the inability to use the rollback links on user contribution pages. If you enable twinkle and visit the contribution page of a user, you will see the rollback links show up next to a current revision. However, clicking it directs you to an invalid URL (an example being [1]). I'll find some of the other bugs tomorrow, if no one else does it by the time I get back. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 14:42, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Patch for contributions page revert bug

change

@Novem Linguae

I'm not major in js, so I could be wrong. The revert on contribution page works using this script. mediawiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js has a bug. I changed

list.each(function(key, current) {
	var href = $(current).children("a:eq(1)").attr("href");
	current.appendChild( document.createTextNode(' ') );
	var tmpNode = revNode.cloneNode( true );
	tmpNode.firstChild.setAttribute( 'href', href + '&' + Morebits.queryString.create( { 'twinklerevert': 'norm' } ) );
	current.appendChild( tmpNode );
	current.appendChild( document.createTextNode(' ') );
	tmpNode = revVandNode.cloneNode( true );
	tmpNode.firstChild.setAttribute( 'href', href + '&' + Morebits.queryString.create( { 'twinklerevert': 'vand' } ) );
	current.appendChild( tmpNode );
});

to

list.each(function(key, current) {
	var href = $(current).find('.mw-changeslist-diff').attr('href');
	current.appendChild(document.createTextNode(' ') );
	var tmpNode = revNode.cloneNode( true );
	tmpNode.firstChild.setAttribute( 'href', href + '&' + Morebits.queryString.create( { 'twinklerevert': 'norm' } ) );
	current.appendChild( tmpNode );
	current.appendChild( document.createTextNode(' ') );
	tmpNode = revVandNode.cloneNode( true );
	tmpNode.firstChild.setAttribute( 'href', href + '&' + Morebits.queryString.create( { 'twinklerevert': 'vand' } ) );
	current.appendChild( tmpNode );
});

I tried clicking "revert" on some diff pages and it seemed to work without this patch. Can you please provide the "steps to reproduce" the bug? For example, 1) visit page X, 2) click Y, 3) Z happens, but A should have happened instead. Then I can test your patch :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:27, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Novem Linguae: I first raised this issue on Discord. Unlike en:MediaWiki:Gadget-twinklefluff.js, which is split between 'diff' and 'contributions', in simplewiki 'normal' acts on both diff and contributions pages. It works fine on the diff page, but is buggy on the contributions page. For example,
to revert this page, if clicking the Vandalism button on special:contributions/기나ㅏㄴ
it redirects to the above page. -- ginaan(T/C) 17:57, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the patch. I think I finally got your patch to load correctly for testing in this diff. And your patch does appear to fix the URL issue. However, I was unable to get rollback to work at all in the Twinkle gadget or your patch. I think there's an additional bug in rollback (including diff rollback). The GUI displays all the things you'd expect and it LOOKS like it is rolling back the edits, but whatever I tried I could not get Twinkle to actually rollback your 4 edits to the sandbox. An additional patch and additional debugging may be needed. –Novem Linguae (talk) 09:48, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Novem Linguae: Thanks for the test! There was no code that raises an error when the version before reverting and the version after reverting are the same. I fixed it, so could you test it? ginaan(T/C) 08:34, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
