Temporary protection request

Hello.

User:My name is CJ who is the same IP 212.108.146.62/185.135.96.2 who was warned numerous times and temporarily blocked a few times for vandalism by the administrators, is vandalizing the same articles in the same pattern under his/her new account which he/she opened on October 1, by erasing NPOV content, also sources, and is replacing them with nationalistic POV content. This person will continue with his/her disruptive edits, despite being warned and temporarily blocked as an IP user.

Nothing will stop and deter this person, unless these articles that are vandalized are temporarily protected and he/she is temporarily blocked for a much longer period.

Yours sincerely, Multituberculata (talk) 09:26, 5 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Page to be deleted - Obvious advertising

Good morning,

I wanted to report the following page:

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabio_Raffaeli

This is blatant advertising, the entry is not encyclopaedic and a user (Allensyllos) keeps removing the quick deletion request. The character on the page in question is self-promoting for his real estate business in Dubai, any source given is self-promotional. He is blatantly doing this to legitimise his position for promotional purposes.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Eikeran (talkcontribs) 08:13, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

About WP:H

On the regular English Wikipedia, WP:H redirects to Help:Contents. However, here it redirects to Wikipedia:List of articles all languages should have, so I changed the redirect. Can you explain why you reverted it? Thank you, 209.232.149.23 (talk) 16:09, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I actually reverted my revert before you messaged, but something to be aware of is that we don't necessarily try to be consistent with English Wikipedia. We are a completely different wiki and should be treated as such. One of the issues that our community has is editors coming from English Wikipedia and insisting things here be the same as en.wiki. For example this community might have been used to having WP:H redirect to its original target and then you changed it to match a different wiki which wasn't this one and thus making things harder for the editors here as opposed to the ones there. That being said, this one is probably not a highly used one so doesn't matter. You will however need to go fix all the links that were using it so it again goes to the place it was meant to in the discussions it was used. -Djsasso (talk) 16:11, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
All the fixes are done, save for the one on WP:VA which is semi-protected. 209.232.149.23 (talk) 16:22, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I can fix that. -Djsasso (talk) 16:22, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Infobox from en wiki

May I know the reason why infobox from en wiki are brought here despite the presence of one in simple? I am unaware of any rules of wikipedia, regarding that, if exist. But in fact, infobox created in simple (especially by me) are far better than those in en wiki, regarding the case of Meitei deities. Because those in the en wiki have many red links (due to improper linkings) while the one (I create despite knowing that there's a corresponding one in en wiki) in simple, contains little or no red links. I pay utmost care while doing so. Please don't mind, I don't demean your efforts. I really appreciate your contributions but I am just curious if there's any rules because I am still a birdie to wiki regarding knowledge and experience. :) :-) Haoreima (talk) 17:32, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

More often than not it is because your infoboxes are not as good as the ones on en.wiki. Almost always they are in the wrong place on the page, and you strip out the red links. We want the red links here so the pages get created here. -Djsasso (talk) 17:39, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, Sir! Kindly please don't remove the gallery. I only put a little selective images and not all that's available in Commons. Because people from foreign countries (unaware of the native culture) might get easier to know what that object is if good illustrations of the objects are seen explicitly in the gallery! If you want to remove some, spare some at least or if you found the sizes inappropriate, please lessen the size! Haoreima (talk) 17:52, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I do lessen the size when I can, but on many of these pages there are too many images. Too many images can overwhelm the article. If the article is only a few sentences long then the article should only have one or two pictures on it. -Djsasso (talk) 17:54, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agreed! :) Haoreima (talk) 17:55, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

From what I can remember a lot of their pages were either fake or clearly disruptive. Shouldn't be a problem to take any page they created to Rfd. (haven't looked at what still exists). -Djsasso (talk) 12:23, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Djsasso Just a reminder it's important to leave an edit summary, so others know what is happening, before i revert it i knew it was done by you who is experienced plus an administrator. 🌸 Sakura emad 💖 (talk) 14:21, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Sakura emad: If you knew then you shouldn't have reverted it. Sometimes people don't leave edit summaries and its perfectly acceptable. If you see an administrator reverting something and not leaving an edit summary assume good faith and don't revert. Ask if you are unsure. Reverting just to revert is disruptive. -Djsasso (talk) 14:22, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox country

Hello, can you please update this template? It has been causing a lot of errors and it is impacting a large number of articles. MeritedElm63160 (talk) 23:11, 6 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have updated it. But more likely than not it is the individual places it is used that need to be updated. So if you see a page with errors, it is the infobox on that page that needs to be updated. -Djsasso (talk) 11:34, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I should also mention to be careful just copy and pasting templates over from other wikis. Not all templates will work here as we don't necessarily have all infrastructure in some cases, if you update one template but others use that template or it needs other templates to work correctly then you essentially break that template. -Djsasso (talk) 11:42, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. MeritedElm63160 (talk) 20:16, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Verdis

Hi I saw you deleted the article Verdis as it was similar to some sort of deleted edition of it. It appears to more just be copied from Liberland though as they are similar subjects. I think it’s best to restore it as there doesn’t appear to really be a valid reason for deletion. Just my opinion though. 49.185.10.151 (talk) 13:05, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Verdis was deleted because it was a recreation of a page that was already deleted at WP:Requests for Deletion. -Djsasso (talk) 17:05, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Release date for Streets of Rage (video game)

Hi there, I noticed that you were credited with adding a source for the Streets of Rage (video game) UK release date. The source was an issue of Computer Trade Weekly (CTW), which suggests that you have access to this particular issue. Is that correct? CTW is a valuable source of historical information on the UK computer industry, but unfortunately it is extremely difficult to track down issues in the wild. Finally, do you happen to have access to any other issues of CTW and, if so, which ones? Many thanks! -Homgran (talk) 14:10, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Module:Navseasoncats with centuries below decade

in Jan 2022, you deleted Module:Navseasoncats with centuries below decade with the tag stating it was depreciated. Problem here is that quite a few pages are tossing up error warning of it missing. Options I see:

  1. fix the offended templates calling it - Lots of work here from people with a lot of work in the field
  2. find a replacement - Who knows.. it could be out there
  3. undelete and just say screw it - how bad was the depreciation?
  4. create a blank page in hope that the templates calling it wont notice and will keep chugging along quietly.

2 is the best call but 3 or 4 are the most likely to happen. --Creol(talk) 20:14, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

RfD nomination of Template:NHL navbox

An editor has requested deletion of Template:NHL navbox, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2022/Template:NHL navbox and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 10:31, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your edits are adding part of the title with wikimarks to the previous album parameter. They are clearing the first issue and making a second. --Creol(talk) 19:22, 1 March 2022 (UTC)'Reply
Do you have an example, the ones I have been looking at have all been fine. More than likely an edge case that I missed while watching the changes, likely due to the infobox already wrong on the page (ie having two params on the same line). -Djsasso (talk) 19:22, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ah.. double checked with this edit. seems the problem was already there when you cleared the original. It just wasnt showing up then. sorry bout that.--Creol(talk) 19:26, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just wondering, is there a reason registered users are allowed to change tags in the logs? --*Fehufangą✉ Talk page11:30, 8 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bringing this up again since this log entry: [1] was tagged with "Possible Vandalism - LTA" (which I've now removed), even though it's a page deletion by an administrator. -- *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 22:54, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Not really sure, we don't really use that functionality here. Looks like all those tags were added at the same time. Looking at the tag log of all the tag edits adding or removing, you actually make up a very large percentage. I am sure most people don't even realize that exists. It likely is just turned on for all users by default, the only tagging of log entries we do here really are ones automated through the abuse filter. -Djsasso (talk) 19:26, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

difference between Kanglei and Meitei

I think you might have not known about the difference between Kanglei and Meitei! Kanglei is an ancient as well as unofficial synonymous term for Meitei. In most (almost all) references/citations/links available, the term Kanglei is seldom used. The Regular English Wikipedia article en:Kanglei mythology was once created by one of my sock puppets. I was lucky that admins of English Wikipedia didn't find out who the creator of that article really was! Btw, whenever you type Meitei, for example, Meitei language, Meitei script, Meitei people, etc. Things appear as "Meitei" while "Kanglei" remains as an ancient unofficial term. The title of the regular English Wikipedia article was my mistake. And when I tried to organize a discussion to rename the article into formal one, which is supported by the cited references, the discussion closed as I remained blocked in that wiki. So, what do you think about it? Haoreima (talk) 04:33, 19 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

browser

hey djsasso, is it not possible to have browser specific user scripts? Tsugaru let's talk! :) 00:03, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

How do you mean? -Djsasso (talk) 00:04, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Example: I have a dark theme script, it works perfectly on Firefox, however on this browser (Chromimum) it has many errors, I was wondering if there exists such a way to disable this script on chromimum and leave it enabled on firefox?... --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 00:08, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Off the top of my head I don't if you could get that to work. I would say likely you could, but it would involve writing some javascript to detect the browser and then doing your script changes conditionally based on what it returned. -Djsasso (talk) 00:11, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ohh I see, Thanks for the explanations! It's so strange cause each browser reacts differently to each script, and if it works on one, it won't work on the other --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 00:15, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes that is a very common issue for websites. That's why their QA will test their stuff on many different browsers to make sure it all works and will write stuff to be different for the browser you are on if necessary. The only reason I am not fully sure about doing on wikipedia is that you can only control your own page and not sure what the wiki itself will let you do in your js when it comes to that. But like I said, it could probably be done. -Djsasso (talk) 00:18, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
There used to be a "Nightpedia" script where you could swtich on and off dark or light theme, and I have no idea where that script went now in my settings. So the downside of Chromimum, is that every site upon closing the browser it signs me out except for Wikipedia, and it has high CPU usage when idle BUT firefox has audio problems and the other problems I mentioned in the past haha. I tried opera in the past but it messed up with the linux update manger lol --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 00:40, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Canvassing Enquiry

Hello DJSasso, Does the following situations count as Canvassing? (not that they are happening)

1. User comes into an RFA after being told by another user he is having an RFA there are 20 Support votes and no oppose votes, the user in question opposes the RFA making the tally of their own RFA to 20/1

2. Same situation as above, but this time the user requests specifically to the user in question to oppose their own RFA and they do so Tsugaru let's talk! :) 01:06, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) - My personal opinion, but the oppose vote could be seen as disruptive or POINTy, and I would view the !voter negatively. As for the second scenario, I would really question why someone seeking a position of trust would be asking a user to vote a certain way (positively or negatively) in their RFA, and that could be seen as canvassing (and also a negative point for the RFA candidate). Griff (talk) 03:48, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Good Points, if the user in question did option two above, however taking into account the user has a few thousand edits on the Wikimedia Project in which the RFA is taking place, and they make somewhat valid points, but only sometimes interacts with the user, and the point being put into the RFA an hour or so before it (the RFA) being taken down, would this raise any more red flags if they are accused of canvassing? Sorry this is getting a bit long, just curious about situations like these. --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 00:08, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think it would raise some eyebrows, but whether it reaches the point of an actual policy violation is a whole other story. Every situation is unique and it's hard to know when only speaking in hypotheticals. Griff (talk) 03:03, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yea, that's the tricky part here, usually canvassing is seen as user voting for the candidate, etc. I don't think I've ever seen a situation where a user votes against. I've seen some RFAs before where users were caught canvassing, but I won't name them (the RFAs) --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 03:08, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Helping with a research project in Simplification

Hello Djsasso,

I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.

A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.

Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.

I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,

Philippe Laban

We request you admin to keep the article Aryan Jakhar

Greetings Admin,

We are writing this in order to request you to kindly do not delete Wiki Page Aryan Jakhar as he is an indian journalist and he deserve the information about him on Simple English Wiki. Someone with name Ravenfire is spamming. The article is not a promotional article as we have worked on the article multiple times and after that only we have published it on Simple English Wiki. 2A02:26F7:D6CC:680B:0:72FC:D41B:4E2D (talk) 03:43, 6 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template categories

I may have done something wrong with the template categories, because I sort of reverted one of your edits. We had four similar categories:

enwiki has merged these all into a single category. What do you think we should do about this? Kk.urban (talk) 21:43, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Can you look please

Can you take a look at my user talk and perhaps help with it? I thought I found the issue with cats not being created for it to work properly, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:00, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Importer

Neither get granted here. Only admins get either one of them. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:55, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nope there have been people given transwiki importer that are not admins. Admins get the permissions automatically. Others need the flag. -Djsasso (talk) 21:56, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Importer/Archives/2015 This is the last granted for importer. There seems to be no archive of trans-importer to see when that was last granted to someone. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:02, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is very rarely given out, but it is given out. Most people who have need of it tend to end up as admins so it doesn't come up a lot because they are already admins. Especially since it can mess up a bunch stuff if mistakes are made, and the cleanup of messing up often needs an admin. -Djsasso (talk) 22:05, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok. That makes sense. I just know that they are almost always declined (i.e. last one being granted in 2015). All since being denied. I’ve been c/p them when I come across them missing from articles which is a giant pain sometimes so I send an email for larger ones to have an admin pull them in, since I’m not trusted due to socking and being blocked on en wiki for 4+ years. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:10, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I just realized the confusion as well. The archives are called importers but we are actually referring to transwiki importers in the archives, I think that might be because historically they were one flag and not two separate but don't quote me on that. But all the people in the archives were definitely transwiki importers not importers. Verified that just now by looking at some of their permission logs. -Djsasso (talk) 22:12, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Should we change the archive name and create a new archive for going forward? Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I am contemplating that right now. Just looking to make sure nothing is keying off that specific name. -Djsasso (talk) 22:20, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Vanished user editing

Hi DJSasso, Hope you're well,

In 2015 you had renamed Kennedy to VanishedUser sdu9aya9f213ws per their vanish request, They're now editing articles again so didn't know if they should be renamed back?

I haven't spoken to them etc as I felt it was a wise choice to ask you first before wading in with my size 13s, Many thanks, Warm regards, –Davey2010Talk 02:01, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

:-) Kennedy (talk) 12:57, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately Crats can't rename anymore, they would have to go to meta to be renamed. If you are to continue editing Kennedy maybe head to meta and ask for a rename back or let me know and I can make the request for you. -Djsasso (talk) 11:56, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah sorry, I saw you had moved their talkpage so just assumed you had renamed them too, I now see that was Worm That Turned, So if they continue I'll ask them, Thanks –Davey2010Talk 21:56, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Just wondering since I have come across this. Does a vanished user who wants to be renamed have to be renamed in the format VanishedUser (letters)? Or is this computer generated? --Tsugaru let's talk! :) 02:12, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@つがる It used to be that vanishing was done manually by renamers and from what I know the disambiguators need to be put in manually, but now there is a bot that can perform automatic vanishing (Special:Contributions/Special:Contributions/AccountVanishRequests) and it looks like the disambiguator is now taken from some sort of hash. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 04:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Group of 7

On the first part you removed, I wasn't sure if we would move over the not to be confused with template. We only had one article in blue on that particular template, so that is why I left it so in the future it would still link if we brought it over. I am not sure how many articles need to be created for the navbox to come over? For the categories, I tend to stay away from them and they are done by the two main people who do the cats, almost usually MathXplore who does it for me. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 12:17, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

The categories were already on the page before you copied over the new template effectively removing them. -Djsasso (talk) 12:19, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Good point. I will add that on my list of thing to check for. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 12:22, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

category redirects

Hi! I'm looking to do some category moves per Wikipedia:Simple talk/Archive 157#Category move discussion, but there's a lot more pages than I gave credit for that need moving. Your bot is currently listed at WP:BOT as handling category moves, but hasn't edited in over a year. Do you know if there's any way to restart up that job, or if we have another way to handle mass moves of a category? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 15:12, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
