Christopher Plummer question
Hey Eptalon! I was fixing up Christopher Plummer's article for a VGA nomination, but something tells me it might be better as a GA. I'm not sure which one would be more suitable and I was wondering if you can help me by giving your opinions on it. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 21:32, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- When I look at what I did, it was mostly GA-related. GA's are easier to do, they are less work (main thing about VGAs is completeness; also I think the last demotion from VGA I did was because of red-links in some template). But if I look at the whole thing, I have been the only one promoting/demoting articles recently. Whats what "community" stands for. As to the article: I didn't have a through looks: Looks fairly redlink free, sections look like they have a decent length. SO try either. BTW: I really want to add comments about the VGA nominations. I really think we have interesting proposals in the queue for both. --Eptalon (talk) 22:23, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Eptalon: Thank you! I'm aiming for VGA to add more variety and more articles but I don't want to risk a VGA nomination that'll end in rejection whereas that energy could have gone towards a GA nom. I feel my Jackie Kennedy nom might be getting close to promotion, but my Jimmy Carter nom needs more feedback I think. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 23:00, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Can you readd the Azerbaijani flag in the article tricolour, because it was delibaretly removed. There are three types of tricolour flags that represent the horizontal, vertical and diagonal types - with this flag representing the horizontal example of a tricolour.

Abstract photography, sometimes called non-objective, experimental or conceptual photography, is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world and that has been created through the use of photographic equipment, processes or materials. An abstract photograph may isolate a fragment of a natural scene in order to remove its inherent context from the viewer, it may be purposely staged to create a seemingly unreal appearance from real objects, or it may involve the use of color, light, shadow, texture, shape and/or form to convey a feeling, sensation or impression. The image may be produced using traditional photographic equipment like a camera, darkroom or computer, or it may be created without using a camera by directly manipulating film, paper or other photographic media, including digital presentations. Main page stuff
Hi Eptalon! I opened the main page and, under "Selected article" saw a redlink for Main Page/Article 25. It seems that page and the page it formerly redirected to were deleted; where in the main page syntax do we update that? Best, Vermont (talk) 00:11, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) If I'm reading this right, you don't change this on the Main page itself. All you'd have to do is move Main Page/Article 28 to Main Page/Article 25, suppressing redirect, and it'll fix the order. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:25, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

It gives me the impression that certain people are undesirable here...isnt it?

Assistance
Hey Eptalon - So I got a lot of errors off of the article African Americans, however, there is still an issue causing it to come up in CS1 Maintenance. This is the section and the error is for [:Category:CS1_maint:_extra_text:_authors_list]. I cannot seem to find it and my eyes are going buggy after staring at it. The section I linked is where the error is at based on preview it shows it at the bottom. If you could point out to me what I missed, I would appreciate it. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? - (talk page stalker) @PotsdamLamb: You could try isolating each citation template to see which one(s) give the error. I'd do it myself if I weren't on a tablet at the moment. Aside from that, the only thing I see is that maybe the author parameters are supposed to be for actual people's names, not for "Editors of"-type authorship. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:05, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- That’s what I was thinking too, but when I took them out I still got it. I’ll work on it again here shortly. For the history ones they don’t give author names, so can this be left blank? PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 03:17, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

This is an encyclopedia, it is not about winning or losing an argument. Also note that we don't have article ownership. I have probably created several articles in my time here. None of them "belongs to me". I may feel responsible for some, but again, I try to create an encyclopedia. Part of this process is to find that certain subjects do not (yet?) meet the requiremnts we have for inclusion. I am very sorry that you lost your work, but it wasn't my decision to delete. Hey - I’m pretty sure I’ve figured this out but I wanted to run it by you first to see if I’m correct or not. On the page John Everett Millais there are piped items added onto the AC. When I pull up the preview it tells me which ones they are and that they should be moved to WikiData. So I’m thinking I just need to cut and paste those items into the appropriate Q whatever number for him and remove them from the article itself and that should clear that out. In the cat itself there are a few and I can get those fixed pretty fast if that is indeed the fix. Thanks for any assistance you can help with as always! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? Apropos of nothing in particular...
Reading Fra Angelico, I did like this treasure. After saying "The convent had a very wealthy "patron of the arts" called Cosimo de' Medici who loved to buy works of art for himself and his favourite churches".
The editor then says "Cosimo took the largest of the friars' rooms, called cells, at the convent so that he could have a quiet place for religious thought". (!!)
Perish the thought that it might be because he was a rich & powerful bastard...

Interlingue
Hi, could you please tell me, regarding the Interlingue article, whether I should keep the tables with pronouns and verbs in the main article or I just move them to the one regarding Interlingue grammar? --Caro de Segeda (talk) 07:49, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- If they are not yet in thegrammar article, they are certainly helpful there. As to whether to also have them in the main article, I don't know. Its certainly interesting to see how verbs and adverbs work in Interlingue. en:French_language has such tables in the Grammar section, our article doesn't. In the end, its your call.--Eptalon (talk) 08:51, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, thank. Another question: regarding the history of the language. Do you think I should simplify the already existing text or maybe keep less information and move it to another one, or is it fine the way it is now? I still need to add the references but I am leaving that for now. --Caro de Segeda (talk) 09:02, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

The most recent articles he vandalized on 23 September are Israel, Baklava, Pita, Republic of Artsakh, Kadaif and Dolma. The other articles he vandalizes with POV pushing: Flag, Tricolour, Doner kebab, Yogurt, Country, Azerbaijan, and Shambali, will very likely follow.

Please be bold and help translate this article! Behavior-altering parasites are parasites with two or more hosts, capable of causing changes in the behavior of one of their hosts to enhance their transmission, sometimes directly affecting the hosts' decision-making and behavior control mechanisms. They do this by making the intermediate host, where they may reproduce asexually, more likely to be eaten by a predator at a higher trophic level which becomes the definitive host where the parasite reproduces sexually. Examples can be found in bacteria, protozoa, viruses, and animals. Parasites may also alter the host behaviour to increase the protection to the parasites or their offspring. The term bodyguard manipulation is used for such mechanisms. Among the behavioral changes caused by parasites is carelessness, making their hosts easier prey. The protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, for example, infects small rodents and causes them to become careless and may even cause them to become attracted to the smell of feline urine, both of which increase their risk of predation and the parasite's chance of infecting a cat, its definitive host. - Hello Darkfrog24, thanks ofr getting back to me. When I picked the articles to submit, I chose ones that, in my view are important; I know that most cover controversial topics, or topics people usually don't talk about. I also do not believe in word lists, as they are too limiting, and in many cases, they do not allow to explain the subject well. Translating some of the pages took a long time, and was not an easy task. So, when you come up with a comment such as "English is too complex", when I spent days working on the formulations/translation, this does not motivate me. In the case of the article I flagged as "biased": The EnWP version of this was last edited half a year ago, and really reads like an ad; I also left a comment on the EnWP article TP (now a month ago), but I haven't seen any reaction, so far. No matter what the intent of the Edit-a-thon is: If a quick search doesn't reveal any viable sources, what am I to do? - I find the contest a nice idea, it obviously has its limitations. --Eptalon (talk) 10:18, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- You did indeed choose excellent topics. Anything else I could do for you? I could show you the readability gizmo I was using to keep it non-subjective. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:30, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps one thing: re-look at all articles you refused (not just mine), once the time is up. And no, I wasn't criticizing you in particular, it is likely one of the weak points of the contest; and needs looking at, if this is ever evaluated or repeated. For my part, seeing the reaction, and given I have only very little time, I will likely spend only a little time trying to improve contest-related articles. I know that that certain indicators (such as sentence-length or word lists) are popular in judging readability, because they can be translated into an automated score easily. Texts such as this one however show that these relations may not be sufficient; we can talk about whether they are necessary.--Eptalon (talk) 13:32, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Page to be deleted - Obvious advertising
Good morning,
I wanted to report the following page:
https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabio_Raffaeli
This is blatant advertising, the entry is not encyclopaedic and a user (Allensyllos) keeps removing the quick deletion request. The character on the page in question is self-promoting for his real estate business in Dubai, any source given is self-promotional. He is blatantly doing this to legitimise his position for promotional purposes.
Wiki-article about a different person:
- Maria Popova. The entry is not ready for Wikipedia, I think. (I choose not to fix that article - however the article might even be eligible for QD. I would rate the subject as a blogger as Class C, low importance.) Regards! 89.8.155.66 (talk) 02:34, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Cape Kidnappers / Te Kauwae-a-Māui is a headland at the southeastern extremity of Hawke's Bay on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island and sits at the end of an 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) peninsula which protrudes into the Pacific Ocean. It is 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-east of the city of Napier. Access to the Cape by road stops at Clifton, which is the departure point for many tourists. The Cape Kidnappers Golf Course lies between the headland and the nearby coastal community of Te Awanga. Please be bold and help translate this article! Islamic ornament is the use of decorative patterns in Islamic art. They can be broadly divided into the arabesque, using curving plant-based elements, geometric patterns with straight lines or regular curves, and calligraphy, consisting of religious texts with stylised appearance, used both decoratively and to convey meaning. All three often involve elaborate interlacing. The three types of ornament are often used together. Islamic decoration has had a significant influence on European decorative artforms, especially as Western arabesque. One type of greeting that is permissable (or even expected) in a small part of Germany
Hi Eptalon! May I ask if you have heard of - and know the name - of the following local custom (or custom in a "smallish" region) in Germany: When workers and other busy people are having their lunch break (or equivalent), and a co-worker comes into the room, then he will not speak to the other co-workers but he will knock cirka two times on the table, whereby the persons who are sitting and eating - will knock on the table (as a reply).
(If you, Eptalon, are not sure, then I will probably ask on English-wiki. Comment: I have seen this greeting one time, among Germans (in a non-German country). The custom was explained to me as being from Germany - also with the comment that in most (or some) places in Germany - that greeting would be interpreted as barely tolerable, or not acceptable (because speaking to people is generally the preferred way of doing things). Regards! 89.8.134.128 (talk) 21:56, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

Please be bold and help translate this article! William Morrison (23 August 1855 – 29 August 1927) was a Scottish chemist. His background in chemistry piqued his interest in improving storage batteries. He concentrated on how to produce the most available energy for a unit of weight for efficiency in the working of an individual battery cell. Eventually, he developed storage batteries far more powerful than what had then been available. To demonstrate his batteries, Morrison installed 24 of them on a common horse-drawn carriage and attached an electric motor to the rear axle to be powered by them. Through various innovations, he developed the controls for the power used and the vehicle's steering so that the driver had complete control. Morrison invented the first practical self-powered four-wheeled electric carriage in the United States. His electric vehicle was the first to be driven in Chicago and in his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. This electric horseless buggy of the late 19th century helped pave the way for the hybrid electric automobile of the 21st century. Docker
Hi. I wonder what your thoughts are about renaming Docker to Docker (software) to be consistent with other wikis? It might make it easier to do interwiki links and to important information from other wikis to help with cleanup. What do you think? Blissyu2 (talk) 11:50, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- As disambiguation pages: There is en:Mitchell Docker, a cyclist born 1986, and the ominous dockworker; there are several places, a few sports teams, and a brand used for clothing. Renaming only makes sense when we have a disambiguation page; this means we need articles for at least two of the others. See en:Docker--Eptalon (talk) 12:05, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- The term "stevedore" is quite foreign to English usage. Because of the range of the old British Empire, the term "docker" is understood all over the eastern world as well. It is British English which was, and still is to some extent, used in most former colonial countries. Macdonald-ross (talk) 13:04, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- This is simple English; I think a disambiguation page, perhaps with the Software, the dockworker, and one other entry is easy to create..--Eptalon (talk) 14:02, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- The fisambiguation page is now at Docker, this is consistent with EnWP. If you think it should look different, please adapt.--Eptalon (talk) 14:14, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Please be bold and help translate this article! The composition of Madagascar's wildlife reflects the fact that the island has been isolated for about 88 million years. The prehistoric breakup of the supercontinent Gondwana separated the Madagascar-Antarctica-India landmass from the Africa-South America landmass around 135 million years ago. Madagascar later split from India about 88 million years ago, allowing plants and animals on the island to evolve in relative isolation. As a result of the island's long isolation from neighboring continents, Madagascar is home to an abundance of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Approximately 90 percent of all plant and animal species found in Madagascar are endemic, including the lemurs (a type of strepsirrhine primate), the carnivorous fossa and many birds. This distinctive ecology has led some ecologists to refer to Madagascar as the "eighth continent", and the island has been classified by Conservation International as a biodiversity hotspot. As recent as 2021, the "smallest reptile on earth" was also found in Madagascar, known as the Brookesia nana, or nano-chameleon.
