for the error in judgement there. I'll try to be more careful from next time. Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 16:13, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- No worries, it was something you probably wouldn't have caught if you weren't used to looking at iw bot edits. It jumped right out at me since I run an IW bot but I can easily see how it is hard to catch. They all start to look the same after awhile. -DJSasso (talk) 19:33, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Article French civil aviation university asked for Quick deletion
Hi. The article French Civil Aviation University you worked on it yesterday has been asked for Quick deletion. I don't understand because it is not copied from another Wikipedia. The words use, the sentences are much more simple than another WP. I spend a lot of time on this article to make sure it is simple but there is still some work to do on it and everybody can help. 80.13.85.217 (talk) 07:56, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
AWB changes
Hi Djsasso :) Would you please review some of your AWB changes that you made yesterday? You placed some articles in a parent category Category:American actors, but most if not all of them appear to have already been diffused into subcategories in earlier edits...
I'm also not sure why you're removing maintenance tags, as in [1][2][3] ..? If it's a problem you have with the actual tag, could I ask that you bring it up on Simple talk instead? Because there's not much point in anyone adding the tags if you're going to remove them in AWB drives. It looks like you're only up to "A" at the moment, so I thought I'd query you about it before you go any further. Osiris (talk) 03:22, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Most of the people I added the category on were not diffused or they were diffused down one category path and not another, so thus have to remain at the top level. Creol mistakenly diffused them down to the Actors from X and removed the American Actors category. Never should have been done this way as one is a occupation cat and one is a people from cat. Both should be on the articles. As for the tags, I remove them as I see appropriate. Orphan tags are removed as they have long been discussed as being worthless especially on articles marked as stubs since it is expected that a stub probably is orphaned. Has been discussed on simple talk many times. A few people added them in sprees with AWB when they shouldn't have, its long been sitting on the to-do list to remove their mass tagging. Your examples show the two worst offenders (Neurolysis & Hazard-SJ. Hydriz being the other bad one.). They waited so long because it wasn't worth the effort to remove them. But since I was going through all articles fixing other things anyways might as well clean up two birds with one stone. -DJSasso (talk) 11:52, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Does look like I did miss the some people who were diffused down to stage actors though. I had filtered out all the people from television, movies, and voice. -DJSasso (talk) 12:11, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, I think that's what got me confused. I remember the last discussion we had about orphans, that didn't seem to arrive at any particular conclusion. But it looks like you're well past "A" by now and I don't necessarily disagree with your method (removing them from stubs), so not much point in discussing it now. Regards, Osiris (talk) 06:36, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Discussions
DJSasso, we've had our disagreements in the past and I think we're on better terms now. But I feel I must explain this to you in the hope that you take it not as criticism but more as a best-intended suggestion. I've noticed this a few times and feel that it must be said. I have noticed in recent conversations that your dialogue can come across quite forceful or (I hate to use this word but...) 'bitey'. Take the suggestion at Template talk:RfD where Weltfore was suggesting a new layout for the RfD template. You explained your opinion but then this edit where basically you say that the user is not doing something worthwhile. It was a very good intentioned proposal. But again you make an edit which can come across as undermining the user or to belittle him/her, where I'm sure this is not the case. I take this as an example but to be honest I have noticed it elsewhere. Could I please remind you to be as courteous as possible when interacting with other users, especially new people. A warm welcome will encourage them to stay, whereas some comments such as above may make them decide not to. I'm sure you'd agree that encouraging new users to stay is best for Simple English Wikipedia? I hope you take this in the manner I intended it and again I stress that I do not intend to offend you or insult your editing abilities. It is simply something that I noticed and that with you being more careful in your words you may benefit the whole wiki much better in the long run. Kind regards, Kennedy (talk) 13:01, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- He wasn't doing something worthwhile, and had done a number of similar things already, he had been told nicely a few times not to try to replicate his home wiki here. So more force was needed. Encouraging users to stay is good, but encouraging certain behaviours is not. Being "forceful" is sometimes needed. It's the pussy footing around people that cause most of the troubles on this wiki. -DJSasso (talk) 12:00, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
populated places
Do we really put "populated places" categories under geography? I thought the geography categories were for physical geography, not political geography. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:04, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- That is how it is done on en.wiki and it makes sense to me. It is all geography. I think eventually the geography category would probably be split into physical and political sub-categories but at this point most of the ones I have encountered are far to small for that to be an issue. -DJSasso (talk) 16:06, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Cyberbot I Trial
My bot has completed its trial for the other task. Can you please grant my bot the flag.—cyberpower ChatHello! 00:00, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I have been trying to decide if it needs it. As I said in my comments earlier, a bot that edits so rarely is often not given a flag on this wiki as it is not needed to prevent flooding. I will take a look and probably give you the flag though. You are either way approved for the task. -DJSasso (talk) 11:24, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

New stub cats
I noticed you've created some new stub tags and cats recently that weren't discussed. Are you doing research, or can we go ahead and use them? --Auntof6 (talk) 17:50, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well the ones I already listed at the stub project I would go ahead and use since I think they will be pretty uncontroversial. The run I am making right now is really just researching if all the stubs marked france are really just france geography. If that is the case I will just consider it a "rename" and delete the old one. But if there are still a large number of france stubs I will leave both. Any of the redirects I created were just me checking numbers before I bothered trying to use multistub so I wouldn't bother using those ones. (multistub makes it hard to do some automated editing so I was trying to cut down on some uses if possible) Mostly those redirects were me preparing for the future with tags I thought would end up getting created but don't have enough stubs to do so yet. -DJSasso (talk) 17:52, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- Coles notes version, the only actual new categories are US actors and Japan sports bios. And since all but a handful of stubs in the France tag were geography a rename of that stub. The reasoning behind the Japan and France ones were that they were in the multiple thousands and it allowed us to separate out the Japan Footballer stubs and French communes stubs into semi-seperate stubs. The actor one was mostly because I miscounted and thought there were more than 1000 of them which would have been about half of all US bios and more than half of all actor stubs. Once I go through all the actor articles on the wiki I am sure it will be over 1000. -DJSasso (talk) 19:42, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Is this appropriate?
I ran into the page User:Anthonybex because the editor posted to Moonriddengirl's talk page on en.Wiki and I was trying to figure out what they were complaining about - evidently some of his images have been tagged on Commons for deletion. I've put userspace and noindex templates on it, but is it appropriate to use userpages here in this fashion? It doesn't look suitable for simple Wikipedia, and it's clearly promotional and possibly copyvio. Here's what he posted to Moonriddengirl's talk page: I DONT KNOW WHO'S SCREWING WITH MY PAGE FOR MY ASSOCIATE WE OWN OUR IMAGE'S I AM NOT BEING MALICIOUS BUT THEYRE ARE THINGS IN THIS LIFE THAT ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN DELETING PAGES BECAUSE OF A IMAGE SITUATION ............I AM A NERD 2 THE FULLEST BUT I HAVE A LIFE.....THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY DIRECTED TO YOU BUT WHAT THE @@@@@@@@ THESE ARE OUR IMAGES DOE'S ANYONE HERE LIKE....GET OUT I MEAN TALK ABOUT BUEARACRACY PLEASE TELL EVERYONE ANTHONYBEX PAGE IS LEGAL !AND IF WE HAVE ALL THIS ENERGY PEOPLE SHOULD DELETE THIS BLOODY RECESSION ! —
Weirdly, his first post to his en.Wiki talk page was an unblock request talking about a Friday deadline, but it was declined - because he wasn't blocked. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 08:48, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, that was me doing the tagging. He hasn't given evidence of permission and, in most of these cases, he actually needs permission from the artists. Also, pretty sure this is the same person as Shift1894 (talk ▪ changes). Osiris (talk) 09:16, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing to be sorry about and thanks for the post on my talk page here. Looks like the same editor, I'll point this out to Moonriddengirl as she deleted the early article as copy. Dougweller (talk) 10:20, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

IEP 2.0 proposal
I regret that it was necessary to join you and others in disagreement with the IEP 2.0 proposal.
In my opinion, a better start-up plan was used in an SEWP pilot program in Japan. I mentioned it here, but two sentences may have been overlooked in the wall of words:
- "... a very different kind of strategy has marked the development of a pilot SEWP program at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) here and here. Strategic planning and context-building here and here were quite distinct from the IEP 2.0 proposal."
I would have thought we want to find ways to build on what works well. --Horeki (talk) 15:38, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Danish footballers
Category:Danish footballers currently tops the list of wanted categories, with 22 articles. I see that you deleted it under the "renamed category" provision of quick deletion. I don't see a replacement category -- did you have a different name in mind for this? --Auntof6 (talk) 12:03, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure how that got deleted. It was Category:Danish athletes that I deleted or had intended only to delete. Somehow both got deleted. Odd. Either way its restored now. -DJSasso (talk) 12:41, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

- Hmm its the code Creol added....makes a mess of being able to properly subst. I really should just remove it. -DJSasso (talk) 16:06, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting the vandalism. So you're aware, this is actually a user I declined an unblock for and revoked talk page access to on the English Wikipedia, and they apparently thought of coming here to do their trolling instead. Hey, I modified your block because of the possibility it may be editing from one of the Toolservers. --Bsadowski1 20:40, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah I didn't mean to do it that way anyways, because it would block the op if it was their own computer. Might want to check if there is already an autoblock that happened to clear it. -DJSasso (talk) 20:41, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Since I changed it, it removed the autoblock. I guess it is a new feature that if someone gets unblocked the autoblock will be removed as well. --Bsadowski1 22:10, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Barliner
You may want to read this again. According to that page you should have waited until January 1st 2013 before desysoping, no? Kennedy (talk) 14:29, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- Read farther into the page. Jan 1 applies to people with less than 100 edits in a calendar year. There is also a zero edits in 12 straight months clause. Basically those are the two conditions that trigger removal to avoid gaming of the system by someone showing up to rapidly do 100 edits and then disappearing again till sometime during the next year. The two relevant parts are "Editors who have zero edits in a 12 month period will also be considered inactive." and "Editors who are declared inactive due to no edits in a 12 month period may have their tools removed by a request to any bureaucrat." We have been following this method for almost two years now. -DJSasso (talk) 15:34, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Clarification of Wikipedia:Inactive administrators
Hi Dj, there is an issue with the wording of the above policy - the current version appears to imply that we can desysop admins who may have >100 actions but <100 changes (it is worded <100 changes OR administrative actions, which I currently interpret as (<100 changes) OR (<100 actions) ). Furthermore, what happens if the sum of actions and edits is >=100, but the individual numbers aren't?
The current policy (at least in my interpretation) states this:
- <100 changes OR <100 actions - inactive
- 120 changes, 90 actions - inactive
- 90 changes, 120 actions - inactive
- Not really what we wanted, eh?
- (because of the above condition) <100 sum of changes and actions - inactive
--Chenzw Talk 02:41, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- (tps) I think it's supposed to be the inclusive "or," not the exclusive "or." Sadly, English is slightly ambiguous and uses the same word for both meanings. I believe leaving it at "or" would be correct, but perhaps changing it to "and/or" would be clearer? --Philosopher Let us reason together. 03:44, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

- Someone created the page here on simple in a pretty poor style. So I imported the English version to this wiki and stripped out most of the prose so it could be rewritten in simple. I am guessing there was probably some sort of mess up when it was imported. Or it might be a temporary glitch. -DJSasso (talk) 16:40, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've fixed the continuity by splitting out the local edit to the talk page, though I've left your import revision so we know the edits were imported. I had to do this on a few recent imports, but I guess I missed this one. It's because our local revision ID numbers are lower than enwiki's even though their revisions were made earlier. Really?
If I never intended to help Simple, why did I waste so much time on Wiki and on IRC helping people simplify pages for DYK? Why did I bother helping import over basic templates needed for many articles that were missing? Why did I recent change patrol and welcome people? And you know very well that a lot of people left when you made it uncomfortable. You never once tried to help out, lend a hand, or anything like that. You always attacked, attacked, and attacked some more. Why not try to assume any good faith at all? Or, at least, try to encourage more participation? Ottava Rima (talk) 16:07, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- No I don't know that people left due to me, you have made that unsubstantiated claim over and over again. But we haven't lost anyone due to that. The only regular editors that have left in recent times left through natural attrition and real life concerns. We haven't had any editors flame out and blame me or anyone else for their leaving. I help out here all the time. Do I help you at this point? No of course not because all you do is attack people, insult them, stir up trouble and assume bad faith of everyone who doesn't agree with you. You very easily could have proven me wrong by putting your nose down and doing what you said you were doing and that would have been the end of it. Instead you take every opportunity you can to attack me and proove me right that you were just here to be disruptive. It was two years ago, get over it already. You want to be treated with respect then go out and earn it. Had you done so we probably could already be working together on any given project because the wiki is what counts, I could care less about who I am working with if it helps the wiki in the end. You continually badgering me and people who don't agree with you does nothing but harm the wiki. Try and be reasonable and see that. -DJSasso (talk) 17:00, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- You say I unsubstantiated things but you haven't provided evidence to your claims about attacks. And look at the inactives who were those I worked closely with. You just notified Juliancolton, for instance. The IRC channel is practically dead and has been for a long time. You went after Michael, not I. I am not the one badgering people here. Vandal block request
Hey Djsasso!
I'm happy to see an admin around. ;-) there was a lot of vandal activity during the last minutes, so that the stewards have helped with the IP blocks. However a vandal (Moldymo) is still unblocked, but he has collected enough warnings ;-) Kind regards, Vogone (talk) 15:02, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Importer right
Just wondering but how does one request the importer role? I see a couple things refer to the request for permissions page but it doesn't seem to have a way to request it. Kumioko (talk) 00:36, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah we removed the section for it on that page because everyone started asking for it when it was intended to be for people who weren't quite ready for admin but were long time trusted users on simple. Basically it became like a you don't ask us we ask/tell you type flag. The import flag can be quite damaging, we have had some pretty big clean ups after even admins messed up using it (accidents not malicious). I can't see you having many issues with it so I would probably give it to you soonish. But I might recommend since you are fairly new to simple to just copy paste articles or templates or whatever over from en and mark them as attributed to en.wiki to show that when you bring them over you are simplifying them, not just copying them over and leaving them as is. We had a user doing a lot of copy pastes over without simplifying earlier this year that caused a big commotion. I apologize if you have already been doing this, I didn't look at your contribs because I was in the middle of something when I saw this message. -DJSasso (talk) 14:05, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
- OK thanks. Its no big deal. Ijust wasn't sure if it was easier than cuting and pasting. It sounds like its not. I have been copying and pasting but I have been trying to simplify as much as possible when I hit save. Kumioko (talk) 18:02, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
- It isn't a lot easier but it is a little. The problem is you can import over things because there is an option to import all templates used on a page you are importing. And then its a real mess to clean up because we have a mishmash of edit history from the template that was already here and the one that was imported over. This is where most mistakes usually are. -DJSasso (talk) 20:43, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
- Oh ok. Good to know. Most of them I am doing are short ones anyway. Just randomly bouncing around till I find a short one and then copy it, clean up a few things and hit save. Most of them are already pretty simple, I just shorten the sentances and clarify or replace some of the big words. Kumioko (talk) 20:57, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia reader info reverted as SPAM
Hi,
You reverted my blurb about Mopedi SE available on iTunes with a comment that there are bunch of readers available, some being free.
Fair enough, but what would be a neutral enough wording to inform that there is a new one available? Obviously I believe my work is better than any of the existing ones, and it is Simple English wikipedia it provides, not Viagra.

Request
Hello Djsasso,
Would you please unblock Synthebot?
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards, --Julian (talk) 20:29, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Do you see the issue and why it was blocked? -DJSasso (talk) 20:30, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I think the issue was that the bot added interwiki links at Wikipedia:Simple talk, but they were already included by the template Wikipedia:Simple talk/header.
Thank you very much again for your fast response.

Good/Very Good Content
Greetings, Djsasso. I have been looking at the histories of the Good/Very Good articles and I seem to see your name a lot so if if you don't mind I had a couple questions. As you probably noticed I have been bringing over a lot of Medal of Honor recpipients and related content, some of which I think might be Good/Very good material.
- First question, can a list be a Good/Very good article here. They still need a bit of cleanup and red link removal but Some of the English Wikipedia Featured Medal of Honor lists for example. Like the List of Asian American Medal of Honor recipients|Asian]] and African American lists? It seems like this pedia is small enough we just want to get stuff to featured status with less respect on what it is than on getting it done but couldn't find a precedant either way.
- Francis B. Wai also still has some work needed but I think I might start building this for Good status. Other than the red links could you offer any suggestions before I submit it formally? I think I simplified the structure, removed most of the big words and shortened the sentances but I'm not sure what else I need to do besides an image and eliminating the red links.
Thanks in advance.Kumioko (talk) 21:04, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hey no problem, I will help out where I can. Have to run in a second so this won't be a long comment. I will make a longer one when I get back on tomorrow. But no a list can't be featured here, we only feature articles. (but there is no reason you can't try to get it to that kind of quality.) There have been discussions on it, but I forget where off the top of my head. Check the Simple Talk archives or maybe the talk pages of the PVGA and PGA pages. As for your second point I will take a look tomorrow when I have a few minutes to read it over. -DJSasso (talk) 00:07, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Question about renaming some articles
Greetings, I have been thinking for a while that there is no need to precede the Medal of Honor lists with List of. What do you think of just dropping list as and it just saying for example Asian American Medal of Honor recipients. I think the title is more concise and its really pretty obvious its a list. I think having list of in the title is kinda redundant. Kumioko (talk) 02:39, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me. I would have no problem with that. -DJSasso (talk) 12:46, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello DJSasso, Yesterday, I wrote a statement on the Admin noticenoard, regarding in the thread of the bullying case. Replacement of BD template
Hello DJSasso. Are BD templates being phased out on Simple English? I've noticed that DEFAULTSORT is being used for person related articles rather than the BD template very recently. September 1988 (talk) 19:05, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
- They haven't been phased out, we have always used it this way. Just what happens is every few months we make a run through to fix when people add the template without substing it. When they are used you should subst them so that it puts the actual categories on the page. They aren't intended to sit on pages unsubst'd. So for example when you add them to the page you should type {{subst:BD|1901|1999}} instead of {{BD|1901|1999}}. It is meant as a shortcut so you don't have to type out all the categories. It explains it on the Template:Bd page. -DJSasso (talk) 19:19, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
Global block
Sorry to bother you and I think I already know the answer to this question (which is no) but do you know of a way to globally block an account? I am blocked in EN for Block evasion and Socking (which is pretty much an F'ing joke but whatever) and I would like to apply that globally. Is there anyway to do that? Kumioko (talk) 21:12, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
I believe a Global Block can be done through the Stewards on Meta Wiki. MIVP - (Can I Help?) 21:35, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I fully expect them to deny it, forcing my hand.Kumioko (talk) 22:08, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah only the stewards can make a Global block and I have a feeling they would deny it since most individual wikis don't allow requested blocks I can't see the stewards doing it globally. -DJSasso (talk) 12:34, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
I have questioned Prattya on why she believed the edit to be unconstructive. However the reason i'm here is because I wish to inform you and other editors that the IP is a Shared IP and wanted to know if Simple English has a 'Shared IP' template or anything. WHOIS Results. MIVP - (Can I Help?) 13:09, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- We do but there isn't much point throwing it on every ip that edits. And no need to question them, I didn't question them on purpose. Their other edits were non-constructive so it was a reasonable mistake. -DJSasso (talk) 13:25, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
By 'unconstructive edits' do you mean the diff on the Main Page talk? Okay so the 'concerned dad' bit change may have been a bit iffy but was the change to the link troubling? A correct link to a page rather than a redirect looks better doesn't it? If you just mean the Vandalism page yeah that makes sense but that was someone else using the IP. I know about this because of the deletion notification on the talk. Can I at least stick the 'Unsigned' template back on the IPs post? I hunted through the page log to find out who did it and I assume that's not vandalism? 82.33.215.26 (talk) 15:10, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Voting
Hello, just wondering why WP:Voting is now 'historical'? I'm only asking because its linked from the Simple Start page on the left toolbar, and wouldn't be very professional to link to a policy thats out of date... Regards, Kennedy (talk) 12:17, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- Because it was only a proposed guideline which never got consensus. So it eventually after sitting awhile had to be changed to historical to indicate that it was a propossal that failed. Not sure why it is actually linked from the Start page. I should note this is not a comment on whether or not I think it should become a guideline. -DJSasso (talk) 12:34, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- Cool. Do we have one that did get consensus? I wasn't questioning you by the way, just curious. Thanks for the quick reply. Kennedy (talk) 12:43, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- Not that I am aware of. I think the issue is that technically they aren't votes that we make in such discussions so calling them such in an official guideline/policy is a problem. But its been a long time since that particular page was discussed. It was created in 2007 I believe so like 6 years ago. There could have been one that occurred since then but I don't think it is likely because I am sure we would have used the same page name if we did eventually come up with one. -DJSasso (talk) 12:46, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

removing unref BLP tags
I see you're removing unreferenced BLP tags that I placed. Would you please explain? One reason I tag BLPs as unreferenced is if there is no reference section and there are no secondary sources in the other-pages section. It might be a good idea if you stop removing these tags until we can discuss. I would likewise agree to stop placing them while we discuss. Otherwise we'll just keep undoing each other's work. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:09, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Other websites are references. They don't have to be secondary to be references. They might not be eligible to be used for notability if they aren't secondary but they are still valid references. It is already a guideline that they are such for the purpose of the unreferenced tag and blpprod on en and since we mirror their policies it is such here as well. Frankly I am quite disappointed you would mass tag in an automated way such tags which are very much incorrect. -DJSasso (talk) 14:11, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Obviously I wouldn't place tags that I believed incorrect. To me, a reference should be explicitly indicated, not implied by being in the other-pages section. Things can be coded in other-pages for people to go get more information -- those sites don't necessarily support anything in the article. Can you point me to guideline you mention? --Auntof6 (talk) 14:18, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- What you mention is an inline reference. External references would be called general references. Pretty much any of those sites reference something in the article, be it their birthday or their profession etc. Unfortunately since you tagged so fast I can't individually check each one to find the specific thing they can reference. So to undo the mess I have to use the same method you did and mass remove. As for a link I will have to go find it. -DJSasso (talk) 14:20, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks, I look forward to seeing the link. In the meantime, please have a little courtesy, and help me see your point before you continue undoing work -- unless, that is, you'd like to have 10,000 more to undo, which is the approximate number still in my queue. I said I would stop, and I'd appreciate you doing the same. Can we not have a civil exchange here? --Auntof6 (talk) 14:26, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Frankly at this point what is the use of trying to discuss? You continually get asked to slow down and not try to do things so fast by me and by others and yet you keep doing it. People try to point your towards the more productive solutions like actually taking the two seconds to go to en and get the reference instead of just slapping a tag on it. But you refuse and instead make more work for everyone else having to cleanup what you have done. Such as restoring categories and trying to figure out what articles you moved out of them etc. Patience is starting to wear just a little thin. -DJSasso (talk) 14:30, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed you recently updated MediaWiki:Common.css to (I believe) match the version on the English Wikipedia. Although we don't need all the things they have (such as code for article feedback v5), if we're still going to include the entire thing, would it be reasonable to just directly include the current version from enwiki, then add our own code (such as for QD) rather than manually doing it as we've been doing? Thanks. Hazard-SJ ✈ 22:15, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

You're the man to talk to about this I think; Only is in the 'inactive administrator' list at WP:ADMIN and appears to have had <100 edits in 2012, should (s)he have been desysoped per Wikipedia:Inactive_administrators on 1 Jan 2013? Just noticed on a checking spree. Cheers, Kennedy (talk) 15:39, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
- Just happened to notice this on RC and think I can answer it. WP:Inactive administrators says that there must be fewer than 100 changes or log actions combined before a user can be desysopped under that policy. Since his edits and log actions combined make more than 100, he was not desysopped. -Mh7kJ (talk) 16:10, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
- What he said. When we desysopped in 2012 we only did edits but people didn't feel like that was fair to admin who did a lot of admin actions such as deleting pages or other log actions. So it was expanded to be a combination of the two for the 2013 removal. -DJSasso (talk) 16:28, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Category:Cities in the Northwest Territories
As Yellowknife is the only city in the Northwest Territories, I am confused as to why we need Category:Cities in the Northwest Territories for just the only item that could fit in it. --Creol(talk) 18:59, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- Because its part of a group of categories. For example if someone wants to go and search for a Cities by province or territory and they end up at that category and one territory is missing they might assume there are no cities there or that we don't have articles, not realizing they will have to go a longer route around to find them in a completely different category. We often aren't as strict with low volume cats if there is a purpose to leaving them. The most relevant example I can think of is chronology categories. We only really try to limit low number categories so we don't have an example where you have to drill down say 5 sub categories that all only have 1 sub category in them to eventually end up at the 1 article. But in cases where it helps to have the category I see no reason to delete. -DJSasso (talk) 19:03, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- So would you say it's OK to have these low-volume cats for first-level subnational divisions, but maybe or maybe not for lower-level divisions? And OK to have them for certain kinds of things (maybe cities, people, geography) but maybe or maybe not for others (maybe people by occupation, lakes)? This could seem arbitrary. I wonder if we could document this somewhere. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:55, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
- You are right it could become arbitrary. I would personally and this is just my opinion leave it for the fist-level subnationals. Below that its probably not as important. I just know I use these categories a lot on en and a missing category to me would signal not having those articles, and I am an experienced user so I would assume a less experienced reader/editor could easily think the same. I wouldn't say its as necessary lower down the chain. -DJSasso (talk) 11:59, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- I suppose if it gets ridiculous you could combine categories at times (e.g., Cities of Nunavit, the Northwest Territories and Yukon). StevenJ81 (talk) 14:09, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- Please don't do that! It would be tempting to put such a category under Nunavit, under the Northwest Territories and under Yukon, and we'd end up with things under each of those that didn't apply. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:48, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

- This is the part that scares me. It is justifying the creation of multiple cats in multiple areas.. Every country needs a geo and people cat as long as we have one article as they are part of the set "by country/nationality". Countries broken down into main subdivisions need them for each sub.. we don't even have geography categories for every US state let alone the other major countries because there is no need at this time to create them. Every first level sub-division a river or mountain range we have an article on runs thru should have a "Geography of" category. Brazil has 26 states but we have Cities in cats for only 9, the rest are in the main cat. Those 17 states need cats. And the Categorization guideline needs to be rewritten to reflect all of this. All this for a category which can not technically even exist - the name of the cat is impossible at this time and very unlikely to exist in my lifetime as there are no "cities" in the Northwest Territory. There is only "city". Categories are to allow users to find sets of pages on a similar topic, but here (barring heavy construction equipment), it is a set of 1. --Creol(talk) 17:08, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- I would suggest that, rather than "Cities in", the category that should exist for every appropriate entity is "Settlements in". If a country/state/whatever has enough cities for a subcat, then a city category could be created under the settlement category. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:28, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- Which is essentially what happened. The cities cat had the city and one community. A town also had an article in the settlements. I moved both "cities" to the "settlements in" and qd'd cities after seeing that only one city exists in the entire province.--Creol(talk) 17:45, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for publishing my email on my page. How come your aloud on Ro.wiki?Reception123 / Receptie123 (talk) 16:11, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- You probably shouldn't there either. But I don't know I don't edit there. -DJSasso (talk) 16:19, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Ok! I won't publish information like that any more anyway.Reception123 / Receptie123 (talk) 16:20, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Take that!

I don't usually 'do' chain mail type stuff but thought I'd leave it for you per one of the suggested reasons on the template. God, how un-personal does it feel to be told to do something by a template... Kennedy (talk) 15:37, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

GoogleTrans gadget does not load for me
Hi there, Thanks for putting the GoogleTrans gadget on the simple wiki. I am the author of it on the enwiki.
It doesn't seem to load for me. Does it load for you. Perhaps you need to actually have a copy on the simple wiki. You can use my account for this if you wish, or you can use your own account. I've recently put 6 new languages into it, so I was checking around about it, and find you had added it to you gadget list.
If you need me to do anything on the gadget just tell me.
Endo999 (talk) 09:19, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think I have actually tried it. Someone had made the request to add it but I hadn't gotten around to testing it. I will look into it as soon as I can. -DJSasso (talk) 11:48, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi there, I've placed a working version of the gadget at this wiki's
User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js
You could probably just importscript this above file instead of 'en:User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js'
Endo999 (talk) 16:49, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- Done. Should be good once users clear their cache. -DJSasso (talk) 16:51, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Just tested it. Seems to be working okay. The gadget will try to set the translate to language as the language settings of the user's preferences. This is definitely a good feature as sometimes it is not obvious how to change the translate to language. As of right now, if these settings aren't set, then French is the default translate to language. Please tell me if this is not what you want and I will change it. (There are instructions on how to do this at: en:User:Endo999/GoogleTrans
Thanks Again

For my last day on Wikipedia, sorry for the disruption --Aaqib 13:39, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
What did you intend this category to be for? It seems to me to be a mix of templates used in utility fashion, and templates used by utilities. Specifically, I see that it contains Category:Huggle templates, and I'm wondering if Category:Templates used by Twinkle would also fit. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:37, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think that would probably fit. To be honest I don't remember creating it (yikes was 5 years ago) but knowing me I was probably just creating a category that was already on en which seemed useful. Looking at the category that does seem to be what it was for. -DJSasso (talk) 11:35, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
A question
Hi, Djsasso. I am cool with not being a simple.wiki rollbacker right now. Are there any tools that can help me track and revert vandalism in the mean time? WT101 (Chat • Count) 18:34, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- You would just have to watch the recent changes and manually revert. -DJSasso (talk) 18:35, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- As I saw this "Recent Changes" discussion I also have a question. Is there a way for the Recent Changes page to update automatically? Reception123/Receptie123 (talk) 18:37, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for the answer, I will try it out. Reception123/Receptie123 (talk) 14:24, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Copy/pasted errors
As I got accused of jumping in to fast to fix errors yesterday, I am wondering what it a good time frame to move in and fix 5 other articles with errors caused by your copy/pasting of information from En yesterday? The bright red warning text would appear to be something which would affect the readers of the pages. --Creol(talk) 14:54, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, never mind. I'll just leave the errors to you to fix from here on. Easier that way. --Creol(talk) 14:56, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think you missed the point of what I was telling you yesterday, it wasn't that you were too fast jumping in to fix errors. It is that you removed notable information from the page just to empty a category. People do make errors sometimes. Normally I catch those ref errors. I didn't on two pages. Heaven forbid. -DJSasso (talk) 15:49, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- Apparently you misunderstand the question but as I have no inclination to clean it up, it does not matter. Note: you only missed it on 2 pages after I pointed out that you missed it on five - there were 5 well marked pages, I told you they were there, you fixed 3 and left the other 2. Even with an entire backlog that rarely gets any attention around here, some items stand out like a glowing light. --Creol(talk) 18:55, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- Actually no, I fixed them all. If there are some still sitting there in glowing red as you say then you need to refresh your cache because I went over every page and any errors were fixed. And to answer your question, most people consider the common decency wait time to be 24 hours. -DJSasso (talk) 12:01, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello! Tank you for commenting on this article. I've overhauled it to a certain extent: simplified structure and vocabulary, added and deleted a few images, nd just gave everything a good housesweeping. Would you please take one last look and let me know if the article is GA ready? It's getting very near to the closing date (7th) and I hope the article will pass! Thank you! Articles all languages should have
FYI, I changed one of the items after your update. There are highland cattle, and there are the American longhorn cattle, so they aren't the same thing.
Is there a master copy of this list that you got the updates from? I imagine it could be a bit tedious keeping our copy in synch! --Auntof6 (talk) 19:01, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Both the main list and the expanded lists are maintained on meta. The main list should never deviate from the current stable version which is 1.3 I believe. However the expanded lists are a work in progress so they are never totally in synch because they change daily. If it is a factual error you fixed then yeah the master list should probably be adjusted, if its just a redirect issue then we can probably fix the redirects here. I haven't looked to see what you did but I am sure its fine. -DJSasso (talk) 11:47, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
- Actually looking now they have fixed it on meta. I took a slightly older revision when I updated because they recently switched to using wikidata ids instead of en.wiki links in their page and I have to figure out a good way to switch the wikidata ids to what we call the pages here without too much work. Because the wikidata ids will make updating like I had been doing here much harder. I used to just copy and remove the en: but now if I just copy it over they will all be blue links cause they will all be linking to wikidata. So debating if I can create some automation to take the name of the wikidata object and replace the data id with it. -DJSasso (talk) 11:51, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi! The article above is currently at VGA. It requires at least 6 votes to move forward. I'm not asking you to vote "yes", but simply to vote. This article recently passed to GA, and I'm hoping it will pass to VGA. My "head" is still in the subject which, if the article need improvements to get it to VGA, will make it much easier to focus on these improvements. The requirements for VGA tell us that: "Within one week of being listed under the voting section, 80% of named editors must agree that the article is indeed very good. There is a required minimum of 6 named voters." The article has been on the page for three days, it has one vote, and time is running out. Would you, could you, vote? Please? Thank you, DJSasso!
