Happy birthday!

Today of all days I decided to visit your Userpage for the first time. I see you have been here for seven years! Thanks for all the work you do here. Ottawahitech (talk) 02:49, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Quds Force

Hi, I would like you to review my edits for making the article Quds Force. It's not complete, but it's at least a little bit of info added there. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | changes) 04:23, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Accidental rollback

Sorry if you saw me rollback one of your edits! I was logged in on mobile and misclicked a small link. Brantmeierz (talk) 21:37, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @Brantmeierz: I used to make the same mistake! There's now an option in your preferences that will have you confirm that you want to do a rollback. It's on the appearance tab in the advanced options section, labeled "Show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link". HTH! --Auntof6 (talk) 22:14, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: Thank you for that tip! I was unaware of that option, but will definitely keep it on from now on (and probably forgo editing from my phone anyway too - that tiny interface is hard to work with). Brantmeierz (talk) 22:30, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Saint Paul categories

I redirected the two categories instead of deleting them. Also, when you change the name of a category by any means other than a move, please remember to change Wikidata as well. When you rename a category via a move, the Wikidata change is taken care of. I took care of it for these two. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:24, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Just a reminder

I know you are excited that DYK is maybe going to get rolling a bit more but remember "Editors may only nominate up to four hooks at any one time. If more nominations are desired, existing nominations must either be removed, promoted to one of the DYK queues or placed in the holding area.". You put up 13 alone yesterday. -DJSasso (talk) 12:12, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

DYK

How can I participate in assisting the dyks and making some? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 04:18, 28 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Thegooduser:: Awesome great to have more users interested! The instructions should be on the nomination page but I'll give you a quick rundown. Let's just say you want to nominate this hook: "... that New York City is the largest city in the United States?" First, you make sure this fact is stated on the page, so in this case you would want to make sure this statement is in New York City's page. Next, make sure that statement is cited with a reliable source: CNN, NYT, National Geo, a government website, etc.. Next make sure the article overall is in good shape, like it's not a stub article, if so go ahead and expand the bad boy!. Make sure the article is not complex for our simple english wiki viewers. Once the article is all nice and ready, then you would add the New York City fact on the under the nominations header and then await for feedback from other users. Thanks again for showing interest! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:50, 28 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

RfA closed as unsuccessful..

Hello TDKR Chicago 101, I just closed your RfA. With 6 of 11 (or 7 of 12) votes in support, we only get to 60%, which is still too far away from the required 75% that I could have closed this as "successful". You are a great editotr, and this Wikipedia needs you. If you try taking part in community processes a little more (e.g. the "Good"/"Very Good article" processs, whivh has died down), I am sure that you'll make a great admin. I didn't vote, but I still think that you'd make a great admin. So, do me a favor, don't take what people said personally (RfAs are always about washing dirty laundry), and try again, when you have addressed the issues, that people pointed out. • @Mommmy: Thank you mate for the kind words. All is well and I made a speedy recovery. It does tire you out. I've been coughing a lot but at the moment I thought it was the flu or my seasonal bronchitis. After losing my appetite and frequently experiencing shortness of breath I had to go to my healthcare provider. It was there that they said I looked like a viral lung infection and sent me to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for x-rays. It was there that they believed I had it and sent me to get tested, but I was aware of the situation that I even had my mask on before knowing I had COVID. It took a while and around last week I started to feel normal again. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:02, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

A proposal for a group project of article imports

Considering that both of us clearly have an interest in American government and politics, there has been a group of articles that really need to be created for use: all of the House and Senate committee and subcommittees. They are not easy articles to simplify, I know, however, I know you aren't the type of person to back down from a challenge. It would be a fantastic addition to the article you're trying to promote, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and it would be necessary to have them in there if you would want to make it a featured article.

I don't trust my own skills enough to single-handedly take on the task of thoroughly explaining even half of what some of the committees do, and the *shudders* necessary related articles needed to ensure the main articles make sense. I think you are better at truly simplifying than I am, but I can certainly do the early heavy lifting and the later revising/explaining. Realistically, I would see it as the type of simplifying that would be better suited for native speakers that just don't understand it. Would you be interested in lending your support? ~Junedude433talk 03:37, 28 April 2020 (UTC) "*@Junedude433: Sounds interesting, I'm in. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:58, 28 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello TDKR. Not sure if you were aware but there was a fairly large discussion on this article's talk page about the lead image's caption. A user tried to add a caption and I reverted it. Every other editor disagreed with me so consensus is to leave it. IWI (chat) 05:21, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @ImprovedWikiImprovment: I was just reading discussion after a hectic day here in Chicago. I agree with your statement about captions being redundant in some cases. Sometimes WikiCommons does not accurately display the date of a photograph so henceforth I avoid adding captions. In some cases I add captions for example when a photograph was take a month before the subject's passing to demonstrate an updated pic. However examples like official portraits (i.e Ronald Reagan like you brought up) are kind of self explanatory henceforth caption not needed. Nonetheless I respect the consensus of the page. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:25, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes so do I, of course. I just didn't want you to inadvertently remove the caption. There's a tendency for people to caption everything on both en and simple and often they're not needed. IWI (chat) 05:27, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Exactly my point. Oh well, however that is why I love talk pages and Wikipedia. Instead of having an edit war people can simply talk it out and make fair points without hostility. After all anyone can edit! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:29, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Death list

A long time ago I asked you to remove something similar to the "death list" you currently have on your user page, and you removed it. I am now asking you again. The guideline on user pages says "Wikipedia provides user pages for easier communication between people in its project to build an encyclopedia." The death list does not fit that. Also, as I pointed out last time, we have a duty to be respectful of the people we have articles about. Indicating you think they are likely to die soon is not respectful. Please delete the death list and do not keep anything of the sort on Wikipedia. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:17, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Auntof6: This is not policy. There's no obligation for him to remove it, right? IWI (chat) 14:49, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I don't think policy requires the removal of this. While it might not be in good taste, considering how much they maintain the death pages on the wiki, this is arguably related to work they do on this wiki. -Djsasso (talk) 14:53, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's a sort of black comedy related to his work on Wikipedia, or at least that's how I interpret it. IWI (chat) 14:57, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
That would also not be in keeping with what should be on a user page. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:14, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's not policy and I was asking, not giving a directive. If he wants to keep something that's disrespectful, in bad taste, and possibly hurtful, that's up to him. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:14, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: When an administrator "asks" you to do something, most people interpret it as a command. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with you, I'm just clarifying that there is no policy that means he must remove it. IWI (chat) 17:45, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6:, @ImprovedWikiImprovment:, @Djsasso:: The list is per what Djsasso said, seeing that my work is related to Deaths in 2020 and so on. If there was a policy on not having this kind of material on one's user page then of course I wouldn't have had it in the first place. And the list is also what IWI said. A note also, the list is not like a "I hope these people die" sort of thing (god no that's vile and horrid). I'll put the list in hidden brackets so that while it remains on my page it will not be visible. Thanks Auntof6 for the Big Brother check. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:53, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Reacting to IWI's comment, I had some problems on the English Wikipedia when an admin told me "I advise you to" and I took the word at face value—I read both "asking" and "advice" as the person being free to say no. In a project where people come from many different language backgrounds, being direct is usually the best choice. In her third post down in this thread, Auntof6 clearly, properly, and rightly established that her request is a real request. I like it when people have the guts to say something is their opinion.
Remember, Auntof6, you can always propose a new policy if you think it's necessary. Darkfrog24 (talk) 18:09, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Honestly, I don't even think this was a serious violation of the current guideline (which is only a guideline anyway). IWI (chat) 18:23, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Small note

I think the word "population" should be linked as it isn't simple. Do you agree? IWI (chat) 08:13, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Mhmmm, I never really thought about it. A lot of articles have the word population without it being linked. Seeing that a sentence using the word would be like this: Gotham City has a population of 3,000 people or The population was 3,000 according to the 2010 census, I think that would make it clear. I'll certainly keep it in mind though and start linking it. Good catch! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:16, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't hurt to link it anyway. I'll start doing it for now on. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:29, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) For what it's worth, I think it's complex, and I have linked it in articles before. I've also changed wording to say, for example, "In 2020, 100,000 people lived there" or "At the 2010 census, 250,000 people lived there." Note that you would not say something like "100,000 people lived there in 2020" because it's not correct English to start a sentence with digits. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:55, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Auntof6: Would you recommend rewording it per your suggestion or linking the word population? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:56, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, I've done both, but I generally prefer using simpler words even if there's a link to the more complex one. So I guess I have a slight preference for rewording per my suggestion. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:14, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Deaths in 2020

Please be warned that you have now made two reverts on Deaths in 2020. The three-revert rule means that you can only do three reverts (except obvious vandalism) per page per day. I know the user was being disruptive, but it wasn't vandalism, so an admin might block you if you revert again. I'm only telling you this so you avoid the mistake I made. :) thanks, IWI (chat) 19:42, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@ImprovedWikiImprovment: Intentionally adding wrong information is considered a type of vandalism. Of course, this can be accidental, which is why warnings exist, but is not a "content dispute" like your case was Naleksuh (talk) 19:44, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ImprovedWikiImprovment: The user also kept on removing the same entries from the page constantly so I consider it vandalism seeing its just continuous pointless removing of content. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 19:45, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
(change conflict) @Naleksuh: Yes I was about to say on second evaluation, it seems the information was bogus, which I didn't first notice. IWI (chat) 19:46, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
On an unrelated note, does an admin have to move the full DYK queue or can I do it now? A queue is full and ready to update. IWI (chat) 20:25, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Back in the day I used to do it and I wasn't an admin. Not sure if it still applies today. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 20:26, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well the template is unprotected so WP:BOLD. We are well past the update date. IWI (chat) 20:28, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Question: the current queue is Q3, but the only full one is Q5. Do we have to use Q3 or can a later one be promoted? IWI (chat) 20:48, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ImprovedWikiImprovment: I was aware of that which I found odd but at the same time its good to spread out hooks to other queues. I know that there are some hooks at DYK that have the green light to be moved to some queues so maybe transferring them to some queues would be a good idea. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 02:37, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well I guess Chenzw thought having two American politics hooks in one queue wasn't a good idea. I've added your Tom Hanks hook to Q3. Only one more hook needed for that queue now. IWI (chat) 14:27, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ha ha

I was spiffing up my user page (by blatantly copying code off yours) and I couldn't figure out why the article count did not read my own more modest number. Then I realized that "166,788" referred to the total number of articles on Simple and not articles drafted by you personally. I thought you might think that was funny. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:43, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Or with very short articles. Even at fifty a day it would take about nine years.
I noticed something else. Your articles still show up in Special:NewPages even though you're a patroller. Am I missing something about that? Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:26, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) Patrollers pages still show up, but they show up already marked patrolled. -Djsasso (talk) 13:54, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Where exactly is this mark? I couldn't see any difference. Or is it not visible to most people? I remember Danny mentioning he'd marked non-patrolled articles for deletion where appropriate and thought I'd try my hand at it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:16, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I can't remember if non-patrollers can see or not. For admins/patrollers each line in the log is highlighted another colour if it has not been patrolled. It would make sense that non-patrollers can't see that if they can't do anything about it. -Djsasso (talk) 21:18, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I checked the page history and statistics of one of TKDR C's recent articles. Patrol status is not visible from Froggietown. Nice to know I don't have patrolmark blindness. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:21, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

We will be going through unreferenced articles using the categories and referencing as many of them as possible. If you are interested and have the time, you would be a great help! I'd love to see you there and we can help make this Wikipedia more verifiable. Thanks, IWI (chat) 12:24, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Papa John's changed to Papa John's Pizza

The page Papa John's was changed into Papa John's Pizza. For what reason, TDKR? Angela Kate Maureen 02:10, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Tropical Storm Angela: Our titles always ask the English Wikipedia's unless ours is thought to be more Simple English. You might ask English Wikipedia why the page is under that name. However I would say because that's the actual name of the business and Papa John's is a shortening. Naleksuh (talk) 02:13, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sources

Noticed a school IP has been editing mayors and their office # details. I thought it's for their school project or something, so I always try to AGF. I tried to verify one edit for Ron Nirenberg, but I couldn't find any verification for the number they added. They also added yet another one [2]. As mayors may be less covered by media, and I mainly rely on their bios, are you aware of any other ways to verify these additions? Many thanks for your insight. --Infogapp1 (talk) 17:38, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@TDKR Chicago 101: Yeah, that's what I thought. My instinct was to revert the edit and give them a warning since I couldn't see any third party mentioning these numbers. But I also wanted to make sure I'm not just doing it because I wasn't aware of other ways to find such information. And I thought who would be a better source than the person who created the article itself. Thanks for confirming :) --Infogapp1 (talk) 01:20, 20 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Of course! Let's see how that goes out for now. Keep a heads up on an unregistered user that keeps editing Governor of Virginia and related articles. They're making minor edits but tons of them and then they add up. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 01:20, 20 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

US elections, potential Vice presidents....

Helllo TDKR Chicago101,

As you konw, the two presidential candidates each nominated a vice president. To my knowledge these are Mike Pence and Kamala Harris. As far as I know, the election is in 2-3 weeks. I think we should not give a stage to those who want to be political, and who possibly add wrong information, or deface the pages in other ways. Being in Europe (and not an US Citizen), I am too far away, and I don't know the exact details about the lives of these people. Since you seem to be politically interested, could you quickly read through both of the articles, and make sure that there's no blatantly wrong information we possibly overlooked? - Both articles are protected for a month, only autoconfirmed users can edit them.

Thank you --Eptalon (talk) 10:58, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes of course; also protected the page. There's a chance we are looking at the next president... --Eptalon (talk) 16:42, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Great work as usual. I'll give Harris, Pence and the 2020 election article a quick read to make sure all is good. Also protecting the 2020 United States presidential election not a bad idea since it might be awhile until the results are finalized I'm sure some controversial content might be added to the article until the winner is announced which looks like might not happen on election night. Maybe a protection until late November to December 1? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 16:48, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ok, PAges Protected (all 'semi-protected/autoconfirmed', for at least a month: Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Kamala Harris; 2020 US presidential election; Donald Trump 2020 presidential campaign, Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign, Kamala Harris 2020 presidential campaign; There doesn't seem to be a page Mike Pence 2020 presidential campaign. I don't think the other .... 2020 presidential campaign pages need protection, they are unlikely targets.--Eptalon (talk) 20:55, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

April Fools DYK

Do we do April Fools Hooks here like on EN Wikipedia? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 03:08, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don't remember doing them. I think they could confuse our readers whose English is not good. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:18, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@つがる: & @Auntof6: I do think it would be a creative and funny way of doing it, our DYK hooks aren't usually updated constantly so an April Fools hook might go well into June. Also Auntof6 brings up a good point as it may cause confusion let alone if the hooks remain on the main page way after April Fools. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:35, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
What if we switch it back to a normal queue right away when it's done and put a tag that says wikt:joke next to the DYKs? --つがる Let's Talk! :) 🍁 20:54, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
The hooks would cause confusion no matter how long they're left. Some of our readers probably come from countries that do not have April Fool's Day. My feeling is that things here should be for the users, and this seems like something more for the editors (yes, I know there's overlap, but I think you get my point). --Auntof6 (talk) 01:41, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am not keen for April Fools to be anything out of project space, if we want to celebrate let us do it in project space / user space. Mainspace shouldn't be touched and by extension DYK as it will be in main page. This is an ESL site, so many of those readers are likely coming from ESL places where they most likely don't have an idea what April Fools are. But April Fools Day as a DYK on April Fools Day this I agree :) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 10:31, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

James R. Flynn

Hi, I moved James R. Flynn to James Flynn (academic) as per the English Wikipedia. There is another James Flynn (Jim Flynn (songwriter)), birthname James Ronald Flynn. --Minorax (talk) 13:10, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Minorax: I see, I created it under James R. Flynn since a majority of other wiki lang. articles of the same person are titled under James R. Flynn plus the singer-songwriter has only been known by Jim Flynn (he's only known as James R. Flynn on the account that it is his birthname). --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 13:12, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Kate Higgins

People need to and should stop changing Kate Higgins' active years to 1999-present. The last time I remember going on the web, Kate Higgins said she started acting in 1988 and not 99. Some people need to get their facts right. I know there is no other source left, but it's true, I went on Wikipedia many, many, years ago, and Kate Higgins' years active said 1988, instead of 1999. That's the real reason why I kept trying to fix it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexkrzywicki1 (talkcontribs) 23:18, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
