Bot

Hi there. I've noticed that you created a bot account here on SEWP. I have also noticed that you have created a bot proposal for your bot. While I am not a bureaucrat, I can tell you what the bureaucrats will want before they will be able to grant your bot its' flag.

I've noticed that you've applied for a global flag already. Instead of making a proposal on this site, why not just wait to see if the global flag is approved first? That way, we can avoid the problem of your bot having 2 of the same flag :). They will also want to see your bot make some test edits as well. Make sure that you make these edits :). Cheers, Razorflame 15:53, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your message. I've been waiting for the global bot flag for several days and it seems as if the stewards were quite reluctant to grant it. I'm about to make some test edits in a while. :-) Regards, --Mercy (talk) 16:01, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rollback

Hi, I've noticed you do quite a bit of vandal reverting - thanks! Did you know simple.wikipedia can grant non-admins rollback right? Let me know if you want it. Best wishes, Majorly talk 14:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your offer, I'll bear it in mind. Best regards, --Mercy (talk) 17:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Vandal Fighting

Hey, welcome to the site ;)

I've noticed that you've been doing some vandal fighting here. Could you please also warn users not to vandalise again when you do? I can show you some templates if you wish.

Also, I see Majorly has mentioned to Rollback flag - would you like it? It is easier to undo vandalism with it as it is just one click of a button.

If you ever need more help, just leave me a message.

Thanks, BG7even 15:04, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your message. I wanted to put some warning template to the vandal's talkpage but I didn't have time to look for a suitable one. :-) Next time not I'm going to forget about it. Cheers, --Mercy (talk) 18:36, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hey there, you're welcome. If you do forget about it chances are another editor will pop along and add one, especially if the user continues. An easy way of warning users is to go to Special:Preferences and select the "Gadgets" tab, then turn "Vandal Warner" on. This adds a little sidebar below the search box when you edit a user's page, and you just click on the one you want. Hope that helps, again if you need anything drop me a line. Thanks, BG7even 19:02, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
As a bit of a side note, Vandal Warner uses scripted windows to work, so if your internet options doesn't allow for these windows, you might have to allow them, otherwise, it will be quite hard to work them. Cheers, Razorflame 19:03, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've turned the Vandal Warner on and it seems to work fine. We have no gadgets like this on Czech projects I contribute to. I'm quite used to the buttons in my monobook.js though. -- Mercy (|) 22:58, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you want, you could request for Rollback at WP:RFRB. We do have non-administrator rollback enabled on this Wikipedia, and looking at your recent contributions, I believe that you will benefit the Wikipedia by being allowed rollback. Cheers, Razorflame 18:23, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I know. :-) I'm going to request for it later. -- Mercy (|) 18:24, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would nominate you for rollback if I were able, but I believe that you have to request it yourself. Why not just get it over with and request it now? It will help you better be able to fight vandalism :). Cheers, Razorflame 18:26, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've been a little busy with my bot and other projects I contribute to. :-) The request has just been put. -- Mercy (|) 18:36, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Warning users

Hi there Mercy. When you revert vandalism by a user, could you please warn them about it? That way, it helps to tell administrators when the user is ready for blocking or not. Cheers, Razorflame 18:45, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, if you mean this edit, it doesn't seem to be a vandalism. It looks like a newbie trying to contribute with some updated information. -- Mercy (|) 18:50, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
If that is the case, you shouldn't use rollback on that edit. Rollback is supposed to be only used for vandalism and nothing else. In the future, could you use the undo tool for reverting edits such as those? Thanks, Razorflame 18:53, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
No prob. -- Mercy (|) 18:54, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, rollback can be used for any kind of unconstructive edit, be it test or malicious. Majorly talk 20:19, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
But the edit was clearly none of those. I would probably assume good faith here. Razorflame 21:03, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
It didn't look very constructive to me, but htat's my opinion. Majorly talk 21:28, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Interwiki

Regarding this, I leave adding interwiki on categories up to bots. · Tygrrr... 18:37, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Are there any bots that add interwiki links to a page/category that is not linked from any other Wikipedia? -- Mercy (|) 18:39, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. I don't know a whole lot about how bots function. · Tygrrr... 18:42, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, if a page/category is not linked from any other language version of Wikipedia, the bots are unable to add the interwiki links. You need to add at least one interwiki link for the bot to be able to synchronise the rest. Simply add the interwiki link to the English Wikipedia like I did and the bots will be able to do their job. Best regards, -- Mercy (|) 18:47, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
No offense, but the hundreds, if not thousands, of categories I've created all seem to have gotten interwiki added to them eventually. BotMultichill seems to have figured out a way to do it. If it's all the same to you, I think I'll keep doing what I'm doing. I don't see that I'm causing any harm and I work faster the way I'm doing it and thus enjoy it more. Please don't feel obligated to follow my new cats adding interwiki, but if it pleases you, then be my guest. Cheers! · Tygrrr... 19:19, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

-Bluegoblin7

This is why I marked the category for quick deletion. --Terry Talk - Changes 12:12, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I think deleting such categories is rather a waste of time and energy when they can be populated later. But this is my personal opinion... -- Mercy (|) 12:20, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think Category:Scottish heraldry and Category:English heraldry should be deleted because the only article in both of them is also in the main category Category:Heraldry. --Terry Talk - Changes 12:26, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, the point is, when there are more articles created on these topics, the deleted categories will have to be recreated. And there is nothing bad on these two articles being also in the parent category. It is the same elsewhere. -- Mercy (|) 12:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
The above two categories should definitely be deleted, and I have done so. This is per the QD criteria and category guidelines. The other Category that you QD tagged I would say is an exception to the rule as it is a very important category. There may also be other articles that are not correctly categorised. Your move

Hi Mercy! You revertet the move by Rich Farmbrough (talk · contribs). The move of this page by Rich seems to be right. We move our main space page normally per en and enwiki uses the full name and the other as redirect. Please consider to undo your revert. Best --Barras (talk) 18:12, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, actually, the template was moved by the same user on the en.wiki. As I did not find any community consensus about the move, I'd suggest keeping the the name as it is. Such move also created several thousands of template redirects, which in my opinion, only slow down the server performance. -- Mercy (|) 18:25, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I didn't noticed, that this was done on enwiki by the same user. Thanks for the information. So, you revert was fully ok. Thanks Barras (talk) 18:27, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Redirects are not expensive. Redirects are cheap. See en:Wikipedia:Don't worry about performance and en:Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups/About fixing redirects. The servers will cache the redirect. Rich Farmbrough (talk)

Hello, thanks for the links. Is there any community consensus about the template move. I wouldn't mind the move if there were any. -- Mercy (|) 19:17, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't think there needs to be due to WP:BOLD. And clearly having the words spelled out completely falls in line with us trying to be simpler english as short forms are not simple english. -Djsasso (talk) 19:22, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I don't mind moving the template to the longer form but I think we should wait some time and watch if the move is not reverted on the en.wiki. If nothing happens, let's say, in a week time, I'd suggest moving the template to the longer form. -- Mercy (|) 10:04, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

IRC

I've been trying to contact you recently with no response. Is this a better venue for next time? What's the problem with IRC? -- Mentifisto 12:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I haven't received any messages from you recently and don't know where the problem is. If I don't respond, you can try the query function or e-mail me. -- Mercy (|) 12:59, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I did /query you and even ping by calling out your nick... your client must've not displayed it, then. -- Mentifisto 13:16, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
That's strange. I'll restart the client. Perhaps, it'll help. Could you please try to send the message again in about 5 minutes? -- Mercy (|) 13:20, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

India etc.

It seems you are an anti indian. You have mentioned Kashmir as an INDIAN OCCUPIED TERRITORY in many articales. Cant you be more professional and more nutral while spreading the knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 00jayhind (talkcontribs)

Hello, thanks for your message. In my opinion, Indian Occupied Territory is a perfectly neutral term which is widely used. Could you provide me with some reference to your statements? Best regards, -- Mercy (|) 10:03, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Simple News News

We Are One! Simple News is now One Year Old, and we would like to thank all of the Simple English Wikipedia contributors who have helped with it during this time. As we move into our second year please continue to send in your contributions, and let's try to develop Simple News further!

On that note, please do continue to submit articles, QandAs and the like. You may have noticed that recent Issues have been fairly bare - and the only way that will change will be with your help.

Thank You!

Deletation of article Indian Penal Code

Hello Mercy, Well yes the article was copied from the En Wikipedia but I have edited it well to delete and replace complex word and sentances. Also I deleted the links, categories and section that were not here. I think that you should have checked it fully before removing it so quickly, it was in a snap, I dont even the get time to modify it further if there is any problems. But it is ok, I respect Simple Wikipedia guidelines here and will try to do work here in it accordance. Thank You. --Wikisidd (talk) 13:35, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I've compared the text you added with the enwiki article and came to a decision that both texts are nearly the same. I'm sorry for any inconvenience and wish you good luck editing the SEWP. --Mercy (talk) 13:38, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome! and question

Hi, thank you for the welcome. I'm an existing user in English Wikipedia and Hebrew Wikipedia, and I'm expanding my user page to include a link to simple English Wikipedia. I hope to translate some pages from Hebrew to simple English in the future. Can you tell me of some useful links for translating to and from simple English? Thanks in advance - Squaredevil (talk) 11:28, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edit: I just read through the welcome and found the links I need. Thanks again :) - Squaredevil (talk) 11:30, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Redirect vs Soft Redirect -- Question and Comment

You recently changed a redirect on my Simple English talk page to a soft redirect. What's the thought behind this -- With a regular redirect, it takes real effort to edit a page; with a soft redirect, someone can easily ignore it. Is the thinking that a regular redirect might confuse?

Also, while I hesitate to slap an Admin's wrist, however gently, on en:wikipedia it would have more usual to drop me a note asking me to make the change, rather than directly making a change to the structure of my talk page. After all, the only material that we create here that is supposed to be ours is our user pages and the headers of our talk pages. While there are certainly items on User and Talk pages that might require immediate change (e.g. copyright problems or other unacceptable material), this was hardly in that class. . . . . Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 18:31, 30 December 2009 (UTC) If you choose to respond, please do so here.Reply

Hi, interwiki redirects do not work as usual redirects and therefore the MediaWiki software categorises them as broken redirects. This is why they are changed to soft redirects. If you don't like having this template on your userpage, you are welcome to report the problem with interwiki redirects on MediaWiki Bugzilla. Best regards, --Mercy (talk) 19:37, 30 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
