Direct copy by IP from en to sim

User Talk:78.147.221.239 is directly copying numerous articles from en to sim without any attribution simplification or even cleaning them up some. I have notified them with helpful advice, however, they are not responding in the fashion they should as they are still doing it. At this point I am not sure what to do besides going and tagging them all QD for either copyright or from another project. Can an admin please advise me? The articles are 96% to 100% matches. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 21:25, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I nominated some of his articles for QD. One of them is Tournament of Elements. Animalguy7 (talk) 21:37, 3 June 2021 (UTC).[reply]
I think we need a mass deletion. I have tagged a lot of his articles with QD tags and it is getting monotonous. Animalguy7 (talk) 21:43, 3 June 2021 (UTC).[reply]
@Animalguy7 Sorry just catching up. Yeah, just let them go and await an admin. They have tools that one or two clicks and they are all gone. I wouldn't waste your time because the user is not caring. Semi Protection of Wikipedia:Notability

Hello. On the wikipedia policy about notability there as been a lot of vandalism. A bunch of IPs are adding notability tags to it and changing the template "nutshell" to "nutcracker". Many of them have been blocked for long-term abuse and block evasion, but the long-term abuse user keeps hopping onto different IPs. I suggest indef semi protection so all these abusive IPs can't edit the page. Thanks, Animalguy7 (talk) 01:02, 5 June 2021 (UTC).[reply]

Just a thought, an admin may still decide to protect, but it's a relatively low number of edits probably from the same person on different IPs. Makes me think protecting the page will just move their vandalism to another page. It's probably less about the page itself and more about just messing with us. Continuing to block is probably the more effective solution. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 05:42, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Yeah, we try to protect only when the amount of vandalism is hard to keep up with. This is not at that level. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:48, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Auntof6 - I noticed you did put a SP on that page, however, it expired on the 6th of this month. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 17:03, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you ma'am! Why don't we do that to all of our policy and guideline pages? PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 20:33, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: On Wikipedia, protection is seen as a last resort; as little as possible should be protected. I try to look at it as a necessary evil. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:40, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okies. That is one way to put it. Watching everything going on simple is def GIGO. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 20:41, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Possible global lock evasion

There is a global lock on a user who keeps creating the Muhammad Zaid article. I started researching this and found the global sock leads back to en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Zaid_Zayd/Archive. I have seen this article has been created by the same globally blocked user. It was created again today by Logogresta (not tagging user at this point). They also created Mahmood Ul Hassan (I put in for an RfD but based on what I see on EN wiki, this is indeed a fictitious person, so I am going to QD instead.) Based on the history of the globally locked and en wiki 100 sock puppets, I am assuming this is the same person. Here is the global information on the locked account. They show this as a spam only account. I am wondering:

  1. What do others think?
  2. Should I do a global request for checkuser?
  3. Can we temporarily block the user?

Thanks in advance for giving me thoughts, PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 17:30, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning Templates

For some reason, when I posted a mos warning level 1 on a users talk page, the page name in the warning was malformed. It displayed on the warning as {{:Leonardo da Vinci}} instead of just Leonardo da Vinci. Can an admin go through the templates please and ensure they are correctly formatted? I am not sure what to do with them or the coding behind them (yet). Thank you so much. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 00:23, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb: Can you help us out and link to the page with the specific problem so we can get an idea of what to look for? And besides that, are all those templates protected? Does it really need an admin to do this? --Auntof6 (talk) 01:18, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 I put it here so anyone can help rather than on simple talk where it will get more visibility from everyone which could lead to further problems. I wish they were protected as I have run into this problem on numerous occasions. The page I put the warning on is original formatting --> https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Bizarreeditor&oldid=7600471 and the after my manual change https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Bizarreeditor&oldid=7600472. @PotsdamLamb: Well, please post things here only for things that require an admin. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:25, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok It is my hope you would protect these (or even SP) as they do see some vandalism (maybe not much) but people go and change them and then this happens. Most edits I see are from IP editors for ones I have found because they come up in huggle. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 01:27, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Replace user page

Could an admin replace User:Russavia and User talk:Russavia with {{WMF-legal banned user}}? These pages are currently sysop-protected. Thanks. --Ferien (talk) 18:27, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Any particular reason you think we should switch away from the exact code the WMF placed on their pages? (and I realize its essentially the same thing) -Djsasso (talk) 02:27, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I think people are spending too much time and effort flagging user and user talk pages this way. The pages don't have to be flagged at all. Admins, stewards, etc. will decide if they need flagging; other users can just leave the pages alone so they don't "rub salt in the wound". --Auntof6 (talk) 02:39, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep this is very true, non-admins shouldn't really be adding any templated flags like sockpuppet etc to pages of already blocked sockpuppets. Often such things are left off by admins on purpose. -Djsasso (talk) 02:45, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The logo used in WMF-banned notices has changed to a black Wikimedia logo. And also it adds the page to the correct category Category:Wikipedians banned by the Wikimedia Foundation. I agree, I don't think that we should spend time sock tagging. The reason I requested this here was just to fix the issues. --Ferien (talk) 15:48, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done but I wouldn't worry too much about changing such things. -Djsasso (talk) 20:06, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Hibbert page semi-protection required

Jimmy Hibbert has been subject for months to two warring IPs attempting to add conflicting dates of birth without any citations to a reliable source. There are zero reliable sources for a date of birth for this person (I have checked extensively) and this is a biography of a living person. The IMDB bio, which is not a reliable source, actually contains both conflicting DoBs. The IPs even remove "citation needed" tags. This article should be protected from IP editing ideally for the foreseeable future. The IPs have pulled the same thing on the English WP article which is now configured to allow only autoconfirmed registered users. Voceditenore (talk) 09:47, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Page protection (semi- or otherwise) is usually called for only when the amount of vandalism is hard to keep up with. That isn't the case here, so I'm not going to protect. I have added the page to my watchlist so I can help watch for future vandalism. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:14, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Auntof6. The thing to watch out for is not strictly vandalism. It is the repeated addition of various conflicting dates of birth (e.g. 25 Nov. 1955, 23 Nov. 1956, and 25 July 1955) none of which have a reliable source. Nor can a reliable source be found. I have now removed the latest addition. Voceditenore (talk) 09:39, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Possible IP sock.

I noticed an IP editor User:82.132.184.83, which struck me as his edits are similar to the blocked User:82.219.17.65. Both did nonproductive edits, which got reverted, and then did a serious one. Both did edits on British (England) towns related to Yorkshire. The blocked account did edits on Todmorden, which is in West Yorkshire, while the non-blocked one did Doncaster, which is in South Yorkshire. Any thoughts? Etoza (?) 22:56, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppets

I noticed some group of editors that were really similar (similar userpage, editing patterns). The editors first edit unrelated articles, then they edit something related to tech and companies, after which they stop editing. I suspect these might be socks that edited for promoting the articles.

These were added after this first post was made

I also found two IPs that created company articles, which are probably socks too.

I only found these today, and there are probably more of these. Etoza (?) 15:56, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There are indeed more of these. Unfortunately mostly all of them are stale, and beyond technical evidence it's the username style and editing behavior to match. I think all of the above are socks, though I don't currently see much benefit in blocking. If they edit again, please feel free to send it to RFCU as we'd have newer data to look at. A person with his political status is bound to be messed with. I am requesting a semi-protection on that page. Thank you :-) Kellis7 (talk) 15:13, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have semi-protected the page for two months (despite the fact that the bots do a good job at reverting graffitti edits). --Eptalon (talk) 16:32, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mass Deletion of pages

I'd like to post this here to see if we can resolve this quickly without going back through RfD/QD tagging everything here. I'd like a mass deletion of the vast number of redirects created earlier today by 2A00:23C5:8D98:E201:6078:E3B7:FF89:2B8A based on the consenus that we do not need these pages that was discussed at this RfD. Also looks like it's probably a case of an LTA. There are a number of legitimate looking articles that should be excluded from this cleanup. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:39, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To make a start, I just deleted the mass-created talk pages that had only a talk header. I would support deleting any "National <foo> of <country>" redirects that have no incoming links (which I suspect is at least the majority of these). --Auntof6 (talk) 06:24, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I also support the mass deletion with the same condition as above. Note that the mass-creation of redirects about national things are still active.MathXplore (talk) 13:21, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I support mass deletion, these don't appear to be useful. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 13:55, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would like just the redirects to be deleted. Darubrub (Let me know) 13:56, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done, per the consensus here and at RfD. These redirects were not helpful. --Ferien (talk) 14:28, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are a few more redirects that are not in the "National x of y" format, and I'll probably bring those to RfD as they are slightly outside the scope of the old RfD. Thanks for your help, looks good. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:25, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could we also delete the redirects and talk pages from Special:Contributions/2A00:23C5:8D98:E201:50DC:D52A:1C7A:14DD? Darubrub (Let me know) 01:13, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a big problem with this user's contributions (at least the ones that haven't already been deleted). --Auntof6 (talk) 07:17, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Same behavior ongoing with 2A00:23C5:8D98:E201:872:510B:96C7:61FF.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:00, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects deleted. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:17, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of redirects, now we have lists of national things made by Special:Contributions/2A00:23C5:8D98:E201:DD5C:BDC4:9237:2C99. I think this is close to what we discussed at here. MathXplore (talk) 12:24, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just for record, I decided to take them to individual RfD discussions. Thank you for the attention. MathXplore (talk) 11:14, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Thegameshowlad: Long term abuser. Darubrub (Let me know) 18:14, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edits in favour of a country?

The contributions by 185.135.96.2 seem to be an attempt at removing information about Turkish culture/similar? They've removed information from several pages, however I'm unsure if there's something that fits the warning policy for such. Fixing26 (talk) 18:22, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It may come under removing content from pages and vandalism and potentially even racism if it’s being derogatory towards such. I would say a block is necessary, if I was in your shoes I’d give them a 7 day block. Thegameshowlad (talk) 18:25, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary protection request

Can you temporarily protect the articles Tricolour and Dolma, because an IP 185.135.96.2 is constantly POV pushing and edit warring with other IP users and also administrators/rollbackers. Edit warring has occurred in these two articles before, presumably with the same IP user.

Multituberculata (talk) 20:14, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Both pages are semi-protected now--Eptalon (talk) 07:48, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

There are many articles on Wikipedia that accuse Donald Trump of saying certain things. However, they can not be proved as true. The references are simply references to articles written by the news media. If these accusations can not be verified by a source other than an article written by someone who doesn't have the evidence to back it up, then the word allegedly should be added before the accusation. When I made this correction, I was immediately told that my edits were being reversed because non-English speaking people would not understand the word. If someone doesn't speak English, then they can look at Wiki translated to their language. I do not think anyone should be blamed for something that has not been verified. I am not a Trump fan, but I do respect fairness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lcwaves (talkcontribs) 06:28, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lcwaves: Thank you for voicing this concern. First, about the word "allegedly": the entire point of this wiki is to use simple language. Instead of using that word, you could rephrase the sentence to use simpler language. If I knew the exact sentence you're referring to, I might be able to suggest other wording.
As for using various news media sources to support claims of what someone said, Wikipedia has the concept of reliable sources. If a source is considered reliable, then we trust that what they say is true. Again, without knowing exactly what sources were being used to support the claim(s) you are talking about, I can't say anything more.
Thank you for wanting to keep Wikipedia honest. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
One of the ways to rephrase: He allegedly said that... -> Perhaps he said that.., Some people think that he said that... Other people do not agree. And if you think that this isn't true, but can't find a source, add a {{fact}} template.--Eptalon (talk) 07:47, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Looks great to me, thanks. Just for everybody's info, you can think of it like a deck of cards that that main page just cycles through. When one card is deleted, it's like pulling a card from the middle of the deck, leaving a gap in the main page cycle. Taking a card off the top of the deck and putting it back into the middle of the deck fills the gap, and the main page works well again. Thanks! --Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:20, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm concerned about the behavior of Thegameshowlad (talk · contribs). He is continuing to be rude in edit summaries, and is even threatening to call the police now. He's also done many other things wrong (shown by the talk page messages he's received). As he's already indeffed on the English Wikipedia, I feel this could be a WP:ONESTRIKE issue. Cheers, J991 16:26, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to defend myself. I haven't been rude in edit summaries since you warned me. I am fine please don't take action. — Cheers TGSL (Leave me a message) 16:29, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
According to WP:ONESTRIKE a warning doesn't actually have to be given. Anyway, it's best to leave this for the admins to deal with now. J991 16:38, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was coming here to begin this discussion myself. The user's comments at RfCU were inappropriate. Additionally, less than a week ago they were asked not to create an RFA without first consulting with the individual they are nominating, and instead they appear to have done to exact same thing today. This feels like a case of Wikipedia:Competence is required and violations of WP:ONESTRIKE. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:04, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've provided the appropriate response on the RFCU page, Angela's talk page, and left an only warning message on TGSL's talk page. Please consider the matter closed for now unless the community is requesting a community ban. Operator873 connect 20:23, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary protection request

Can you temporarily protect the articles Flag, Yogurt, Country and Baklava, because an IP 212.108.146.62 is constantly POV pushing?

I suspect that 212.108.146.62 is the same IP 185.135.96.2 who is POV pushing in the same pattern in the same and related articles. The IP has a history of POV pushing and edit warring with other IP users and also administrators/rollbackers. Please check the log and POV edits of this user, and temporarily protect the articles this IP has POV edited on.

They also include Tricolour, Dolma, Shambali and Doner kebab, the former two articles which are temporarily protected until August 7. Can you extend the temporary protection of the first two articles and temporarily protect the latter two articles as well.

This IP will likely start erasing sourced information, POV pushing and edit warring again, once the temporary protections end.

ColorfulSmoke and Antandrus, we do currently have an edit filter to deal with this LTA. Hey Pr12402, I'll look now. It may be easier for you to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:06, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi pr12402. See Eptalon's comment on the page. The original deletion was ok, as the consensus of the request for deletion was that the page should be deleted. If you want, you can create it again with sources to prove notability, although this will not stop it going to RfD again. The article would likely not be very similar to the original page deleted, so it would not be eligible for G4 deletion. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:14, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just tried to warn User:MrDanielBryer for making test edits, but I couldn't create the talk page for the following reason: You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason: The title "User talk:MrDanielBryer" has been banned from creation. It matches the following blacklist entry: .*(?i)Dan.*Bry.*. RfD page

I noticed a couple of quirks on this page.

  1. In the rules it states “this is not a vote” and refers to it as a “suggestion” but the template for creating a new one adds “ Please discuss this request below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options other than "keep" or "delete", such as merging.
  • Maybe fix the template so it doesn’t say vote but suggestion instead?
  1. It puts the entire page in the category of RfDs that succeeded. I know this is from the section where closed RfDs are put on the page. Is there a way (perhaps commenting out) the addition of the category so it does not get added to that specific category. There are active discussions on that page too but I feel if we can get it removed then it helps clean up categories. Thanks PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 20:46, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That line is actually the line that explains the suggestion you are talking about. As for what you are trying to say about the categories I am a bit confused. What is being put in the succeeded category? New ones? I don't see that that is the case, they are put in a category of active discussions. -Djsasso (talk) 14:02, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Because I wasn’t pinged I am just now seeing this. It’s at the very bottom of the page as a category. So I’m not sure if something changed but it now shows in both rfd that succeeded and rfd that did not. Since this page is a mix of both would it be better to have either on this page and just leave it at administration? PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 09:09, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh you mean the main Rfd page, not the individual pages. Yes, that changes automatically based on the discussions that are in the closed section. It isn't an issue, it is just how things work. -Djsasso (talk) 11:14, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok. I was just curious because it puts that page in both categories. What about the template? Can that wording be changed to match everything else (as described in the first statement). PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 17:14, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Justin DUACE

There is something up with this user. The grammar on their user page is way off, they are stating they have patroller rights, which they do not, they are focussed completely on one article and it is up for RfD, of which they did not correctly add their comments causing a run on sentence, they threatened HockeyCat and now they are posting on my page to not delete things. I am wondering if maybe a CU is needed on this. I wanted to get admin thoughts on this behavior. Thanks. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? They do seem to be related enough and the fact that they were both editing on mobile is suspicious. I'm not very familiar with this kind of thing, so you might want to wait for an admin's opinion. AnApple47 (talk) 18:41, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Stub

Hello admins! Would you be ok if I created a stub for flowers or something close to it? There are some articles that deal with flowers and such that are stubs but the best I can do is just the standard stub, but I think getting these a little more refined can help with putting them in a list for articles to be worked on. I would like to learn to do this, if someone could walk me through it. One example is Mustard plant. Maybe a different word instead of flowers like maybe Plants-stub? PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 20:15, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bring it up over on the Wikipedia talk:Simple Stub Project. It has a bunch of rules of thumb that we say should be the case before a new stub is created. Things like there needs to be over 1000 articles already that would need the stub. There needs to be multiple editors already working on expanding flower stubs etc. -Djsasso (talk) 20:32, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Haha I don't think we need it now. I forgot about Biology-stub which works for me. Thanks for making that change @Djsasso! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 20:39, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Projects"

I see we are into another bout of self-announced "projects". One reason we do not have projects is that they distract attention from what we do onto things some think we ought to be doing. We do not have enough people interested to make a proper job of them, and they are just ways of individual editors creating their own sand-pits to play in. Subpages of a userpages are meant to be used to make articles for the wiki, not to evade our collective decisions as to what the wiki should be doing. Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:29, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if you are talking about Wikipedia:Wiki Loves Women South Asia/2021 but that isn't really a self announced project. It is a WMF wide initiative to expand articles on women in Asia for the month of September. Something all language wikis should be take part in. Though only editors that are interested of course. If you are just talking about random wikiprojects in userspace then yes, there is pretty much no purpose in creating those as they are never really used and mostly just end up being a place to do busy work. However, in saying that, they usually are in service to creating articles in a particular subject which is the goal of the wiki so as long as they aren't disruptive there is a reason we say to do it in userspace. -Djsasso (talk) 11:35, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the concern here. So yeah, this is a foundation wide effort for the month. But then what? We can hope to take part and create some articles, but once the effort of the month is over, is there any difference between this and any other Wikiproject? There might need to be a line laid out. Clearly we should encourage the project as it is ongoing, I think the question is what are we left with. When does it become proper to move it to userspace? As soon as the month ends? Maybe we need to give this some time to breathe, let it run the time and hope for participation, and then decide how to move on. --Gordonrox24 | Talk
By "self-announced" I meant the ones on user sub-pages. We differ from En wiki in not having WikiProjects and all that entails. That is one reason we get users trying to set up similar structures on their sub-pages. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:37, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Typically with the big ones like this we leave them in Wikipedia space and then each year we change the redirect to the subpage for the new years effort. -Djsasso (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Extend block

Please extend the block of 90. something (its an IP blocked by Auntof6) from 31 hours to at least a week. I do not feel that is sufficient. Also at least 24 hours SP Simple Talk so a sock doesn't vandalize. Apply to VIP too. Ely - Talk 07:45, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  Comment:   Agree Hockeycatcat (talk) 07:46, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Hockeycatcat and Elytrian: There's no need to extend the block to a week. All of the vandalism happened within 20 minutes. In most cases, a 31 hour block is enough for the first block.
Simple talk was vandalised once today, and once yesterday. We typically protect pages when vandalism is at a much higher level. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 09:09, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree @Ferien... Also, what do we do to users when an admin isn't online? I had to literally just spam undo and rollback for quite a while. Ely - Talk 16:39, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A couple things, we rarely protect pages unless its not possible to keep up the undoing, and in those cases it typically has to be many different accounts/ips hitting the same page. If there isn't an admin around you go and find a steward and they can help. -Djsasso (talk) 17:16, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To basically add onto Djsasso, other reasons pages are protected are:
  1. socking
  2. user pages at user's request
Because after all, this is the encyclopedia anyone can edit (except vandals, LTAs and spambots). Page protection is not something we like to do, but have to if disruption happens. SHB2000 (talk) 05:32, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Elytrian: you can always see if someone with rollback rights is online by asking on simple talk hey anyone with rollback rights available? Someone will probably respond as there are a lot of us that have that right and we can mass revert the vandalism in one click. Almost all of us watch that page and get emails on any changes. Thanks! Protection and oversight

Protect Joseph Stalin please. Please also oversight the last gazillion versions so Ljupco doesn't use the histories on other websites. Ely - Talk 03:12, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay. I don't think either of these actions are necessary at this time. The vandalism isn't all that overwhelming as to require protection, and the content isn't really worthy of deletion in my opinion. In any case, we know this individual's editing pattern, we know they are going to continue, so our course of action should continue to be revert, block, and ignore. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:51, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't need oversight, but please do not post oversight requests on wiki and use the email address in future at WP:OVERSIGHT. --IWI (talk) 12:26, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The oversight doesn't have any personal info. Its just spamming by Ljupco that he uses as wikipedia-sucks.co Ely - Talk 10:06, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then I don't think that needs oversight. Just revdels (which can be seen only by admins, stewards and WMFOffice) SHB2000 (talk) 10:25, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But in saying that, it does need rev del otherwise he'll tend to go onto another project and paste the links to the diffs SHB2000 (talk) 10:26, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary protection request

Can you temporarily protect the articles Flag, Tricolour, Doner kebab, Yogurt, Country, Baklava, Republic of Artsakh, Shambali and Dolma because the IPs 212.108.146.62 and 185.135.96.2 are constantly POV pushing?

I suspect that 212.108.146.62 and 185.135.96.2 are the same person, because the POV pushing is in the same pattern in the same and related articles. The IP has a history of POV pushing and edit warring with other IP users and also administrators/rollbackers. Please check the log and POV edits of this user, and temporarily protect the articles this IP has POV edited on.

The articles Flag, Tricolour and Dolma were temporarily protected until August 7, but has been vandalized again by the same IP. Can you temporarily protect all these articles again?

This IP starts erasing sourced information, POV pushing and edit warring again, once the temporary protections end.

This is the third time I put a protection request, but no action is being taken.

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

In good faith, I was trying to suggest User:SHB2000 not to say harsh words and hate speech on others, no matter how they did wrong. But he's not going to understand what I am trying to say. I did some more time only if he rectifies, but that's of no help. First, he said this after which I try to stop him. After some conversation, he finally said that he is not wrong and he will stand for what he had said. He has good self confidence of his actions. Dear Admins! Please try to stop him from giving such hate speech, either by good counseling or what is required according to wikipedia policies and guidelines! Regards! Haoreima (talk) 06:02, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My question is, do you actually understand what GRP does? I said that he went quiet, and there's nothing with that SHB2000 (talk) 06:04, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please explain how those words were "hate speech". All I said was that I wished GRP could get some help. In your mind, is that what you call "hate speech". SHB2000 (talk) 06:09, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is is this a humble speech? Haoreima (talk) 06:13, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There's a fine line between "hate speech" and speech that is "not humble". Again, do you know what GRP does to grasp the context out of my comment? SHB2000 (talk) 06:17, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We are talking about a vandal banned from pretty much every WMF thing imaginable. It's more of a shoot first, ask questions later kind of deal. Derpdart56 (talk) 13:18, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Very much agree. Although he's more a harasser than a vandal, but still... he's WMF banned. SHB2000 (talk) 13:36, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if good faith applies in general to this guy but the comment SHB made wasn't exactly offensive. Derpdart56 (talk) 13:41, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I personally don't think one would need to assume good faith with this guy although offensive comments are discouraged when talking about him (otherwise, he'll spam your email as what he did to me 5 months back). Although I don't see how my comments were offensive, and finally I've someone else reassure me :) (but what really takes the cake here is Haoreima calling it "hate speech" and saying "I need counseling"). SHB2000 (talk) 13:58, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes and my speech was about the WMF banned user. Now all you've done indirectly is get an innocent person who's contributed to this thread to not post anything on this thread. And again, I stand for my words there. SHB2000 (talk) 14:20, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did say he was relevant. Derpdart56 (talk) 14:28, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that comment was for Haoreima who said Ljupco's not relevant and that my speech was problematic. Anyway, he seems active on Commons (had a half an hour edit war with him just then on commons.) SHB2000 (talk) 14:31, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, the comments might not have been the kindest, sure but they were kind of honest. Derpdart56 (talk) 14:43, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So honestly, I doubt these comments were offensive with regard to their intended recipient. @Haoreima. Derpdart56 (talk) 15:03, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien Hi, can you please settle this? Derpdart56 (talk) 15:48, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
Hello everyone. The diff that Haoreima showed does not show incivility towards the editor mentioned, in my opinion. This editor (w:WP:LTA/GRP) is indeed one who has been harassing Wikipedians for many years, and has been editing despite his more recent WMF ban. However, it is probably best not to talk about him so much onwiki; blocking, reverting and ignoring (in that order) is always the best strategy with this editor. If there are no admins, ignore but revert later. Reverting many times increases the visiblility of the vandalism. And, talking about him is not the best idea, because that's not ignoring. So whilst I don't think the diff that Haoreima shows is incivility, can we please try and talk about GRP less? Thanks. --Ferien (talk) 16:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Haoreima, SHB2000, and Derpdart56: <- Pings --Ferien (talk) 16:08, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am not talking about the banned user. I am talking about "User:SHB2000" talking about the mental condition of a user, whom he had no good relation. What I am trying to say is that it's not civil. We can't say that it's not uncivil. It's against the WP:POLITE. Haoreima (talk) 16:23, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Ferien. I didn't see any uncivil intent. Derpdart56 (talk) 16:29, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Haoreima ping Derpdart56 (talk) 16:45, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And why would I be polite to somebody who harasses me? 💠Ely - Talk💠 16:47, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That was kind of my point. Derpdart56 (talk) 16:47, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if someone's being uncivil to you, you should never go down to their level and be uncivil back. The rules are not "You can be uncivil if someone's being uncivil to you", they clearly say "Be civil", all the time. Ferien (talk) 16:49, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Derpdart56 (talk) 16:49, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So, you guys, do you mean that "a person saying about another person having mental condition inflicting pains on others" is a "civil speech"? By saying "not uncivil" means "civil". Right! Do you mean that? Haoreima (talk) 16:55, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Haoreima: @Ferien agreed with you... 💠Ely - Talk💠 16:57, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Haoreima, there's a difference between "not uncivil" and "civil", which I've already explained above. SHB2000 (talk) 01:19, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien and Elytrian: You don't need to be "polite", but you also shouldn't be uncivil nor impolite with him. You don't need to give him respect, but at the same time not be disrespectful with him. Kinda something neutral. SHB2000 (talk) 01:17, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"talking about the mental condition of a user, whom he had no good relation"
You mean, empathising someone's mental condition was uncivil? And despite how much GRP hates me, to be honest, I'm lost for words here. SHB2000 (talk) 01:15, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've always tried to deny him, although I do talk a little bit about him. Now I only brought that up because Sakura emad tried to stop an edit war between myself and GRP, although they didn't know much about him which was completely okay (the barnstar was for trying to stop an edit war, at least from their perspective). SHB2000 (talk) 22:33, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there are other ways to tell a user, without giving them attention onwiki. --Ferien (talk) 06:15, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
True. But Haoreima has just given him a lot of attention by starting this thread. I've seen many people talk about him on enwiki or on other projects, and nothing too bad about it, although it does go against WP:DENY. SHB2000 (talk) 06:27, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is the fourth time I am saying that I am not talking about the banned user here, I am concerning only at SHB2000's way of describing another user (whether that user is vandal or normal). It's a very bad thing to speak like that, mentioning something like mental condition, causing inflicting pains, etc. These aren't good words to describe a person in the on wiki. Haoreima (talk) 07:35, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And this is the umpteenth time you've been told that context matters and my comments were not uncivil. While my original comment wouldn't have grabbed attention, all you've done is now give him attention. The context matters. SHB2000 (talk) 07:38, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This thread is going nowhere but around in circles I am going to archive it. SHB2000's comments do not rise to the level where they are at issue. Haoreima, the banned user matters because of context. You can't look at SHB2000's comments without also considering what they were about. I suggest you drop the stick and walk away. -Djsasso (talk) 03:48, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
