Changing pages to categories

Some pages have been created that should probably be categories, so I was wondering how I change them? Thanks, MiloDenn (talk) 18:45, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Can you give me some examples? --Auntof6 (talk)
List of Baku metro stations --MiloDenn (talk) 18:49, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
That is a list article. We have a lot of list articles. In some cases, list articles would be better as categories; in those cases, we can nominate them for deletion (RfD). In this case, the article gives more information than you could have with a category, so I think it's OK. Besides that, none of the station articles exists yet, so we couldn't create a category yet. --Auntof6 (talk)

Your revdel at Rollback

Hi, Aunt. I don't necessarily disagree with what you just did at all. But you should know that the user in question is revealing such details about himself/herself at his/her own talk page. We're all trying to get the user to settle down, follow the rules, and so forth, but s/he seems quite impulsive. But I don't know if you want to try to tackle the situation on that user talk page or not.

Anyway, have a good weekend. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:35, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I'm trying to address it there as well. If you see anywhere else, maybe you could send me an email to tell me where. I would say to send the user an email explaining it, but he doesn't seem to have email enabled. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:38, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Central Department of Paraguay

Thanks for simplifying and improving this article; I knew it was a bad article but I was tired and I wanted to finish with the Paraguayan departments, at least those in the Eastern Region. I started these articles hoping that somebody else could continue with them but it seems that nobody is interested for the moment. I had the same experience with the regions and provinces of Chile and the provinces of Costa Rica. But at least I have all the provinces of my country, the Dominican Republic. Another point, why do you consider that "kilometer" (or kilometre) is more simple that km? I think that those international symbols would be easier to understand because they are used in all languages instead of the whole words that are different in different languages. Again, thanks for the help. --Jmarcano (talk) 20:58, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome, but it's not usually a good idea to count on someone else to fix up an article. If you know it still needs work, why not put it in a sandbox until you can either finish it yourself or ask someone else for help? Most editors have limited time, and fixing up someone else's articles isn't our first choice of how to spend that time. The way I look at it is that articles should be in good shape from the beginning, even if they're shorter to start with.
As for the kilometer question, it's usually best not to use abbreviations. You say that something like "km" is an international symbol, but it's actually an abbreviation rather than a symbol. This wiki's target audience includes people whose first language uses a different alphabet, and those people might not recognize the abbreviation. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:02, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think, I am going to check it, that km and others are SI symbols and I have seen those symbols in books, scientific journals and articles in languages that do not use the Latin alphabet. But I am going to check it, as I said. Regarding the article on Central department, I was expecting to someone to check it; what I said is that I was expecting that somebody could write about Paraguayan departments. But, still, I made a mistake in writing such lousy article; sorry. --Jmarcano (talk) 01:37, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Mountains in the alps pages?

I am sure you have a good reason, but why have you been removing the category alps from all the mountain pages I am creating. They are all in the Alps, and as such I thought they should be in that category. Is it because they are part of a subgroup of that category. If so please just reply yes, or otherwise could you explain. Thanks very much, MiloDenn (talk) 18:55, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Supergirl

Hi Auntof6:

I just realized that you deleted the article Supergirl that I created because it has not notability. The article was under construction and I would continue improving it today, expanding it and adding references to make it notable. There are many others articles about TV shows and I'd like to know if it would be possible to restore the article to continue working on it. Another alternative is to restore it and redirect to a subpage of mine and when I have done the neccesary, I'll notify you for an evaluation. Regards, Invel (talk) 21:58, 15 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Invel: OK, I have restored it. Please work on it as soon as possible. When you create articles, it's better to either finish them right away or keep them in your userspace until they are ready. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:22, 15 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank youย :) Invel (talk) 23:02, 15 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've created another article (Super Mario Run) and everything is okay except that the references are shown at the bottom of the page and not in the references section as it should be. Could you help me? Regards, --Invel (talk) 23:57, 15 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I added a {{reflist}} template to indicate where the references should appear. That template or an equivalent needs to be included in any article that has references. If you don't include it, the references appear after everything else, as you were seeing here, and the article shows up on an error report. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:22, 16 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Patroller

At what point did it become not allowed to request another editor be given autopatrolled? --Tbennert (talk) 01:35, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, it has never been the process. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:32, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Tbennert: On most projects, it can be proposed by others. And, frankly, on many projects sysops grant a right like "patroller" or "autopatrolled" even without a request when a user is deemed trustworthy enough. After all, it gives no extra tools, really, except possibly for marking pages patrolled. And it's a great way to encourage productive editors of maybe 3 months' plus tenure. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:04, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Later I looked at Wikipedia:Patrollers and it expressly says you can request permission for someone else. I knew others had been granted autopatrolled without their requesting it. I suppose that was by the choice of the admin. And I was specifically wanting his pages to be marked as patrolled so they would clear out of new pages. I can see that the time hasn't been very long. I'm pretty positive I was given autopatrolled earlier than 3 months, but that may have been because of my en.wiki experience. --Tbennert (talk) 21:25, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK, I stand corrected. I'd never seen that before (or, obviously, read that provision). I'll put the request back. Still, it's better to check with the other person before making a request for them --Auntof6 (talk) 00:02, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Any Tips

Very sorry to bother you, but I was wondering whether the pages I am making are OK, and if there was anything I should do to improve at all. Thanks very much, MiloDenn (talk) 19:42, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

No bother at all. I've just been patrolling your new pages, and they look very good. The main things I think I've changed are:
  • I think you used the heading "External links" in some pages. Here we use "Other websites" instead.
  • I added the {{convert}} template to some statements about altitude, to show the figures in both metres and feet. We're supposedly a global project, so I like to use that template wherever applicable.
  • Minor simplifying and typo fixing
So mostly they look good, good enough that I'd give you the patroller right if you want it. It wouldn't obligate you to do any patrolling, but it would save other editors from having to patrol your edits. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:56, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Dear Auntof6, if you are happy for it, I would be honoured to accept Patroller rights. Thanks very much, MiloDenn (talk) 20:07, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done. If you choose to patrol new pages, just be sure they're in good shape, or add any needed maintenance tags. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:12, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Recent new patrollers

Hi Aunt. I noticed we have at least a couple of new patrollers. Since both still have pages on the New Pages list dating to before they were given patroller rights, would there be anything wrong with asking them to patrol their own previous pages to help get the number of new pages down? I don't know if it's been considered before but it seems like a good idea. Thanks. Rus793 (talk) 21:32, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. They might not want to do patrolling, even their own pages. It's also sort of a conflict to have someone patrol their own pages. I guess I feel it's not necessary, but I don't feel strongly about it. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:33, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I checked, we can't patrol our own page. MiloDenn (talk) 22:39, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's just one of those things. A patroller is also "autopatrolled"; that is, any page they create is automatically patrolled. But that doesn't apply to previous pages created, and you're never allowed to patrol a page you created. StevenJ81 (talk) 03:45, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request for Rollback

I have recently read the guidelines on asking for rollback, and it says that asking on an admins talkpage is fine, so here goes! Please could I request rollback permission in order to quickly revert only vandalism (not Good Faith edits) on this simple wiki. You may note that I requested it previously here: Wikipedia:Requests for permissions#User:MiloDenn. As you can see I was rejected, but I was still fairly new and had not made any edits. I now understand Wiki policies a lot better, and would like to request this tool. Thanks very much for your consideration, MiloDenn (talk) 07:43, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

What a coincidence: I was just about to leave you a message about this edit where you undid a user's changes to Wikipedia:Requested pages, and identified it as vandalism. I wouldn't call that vandalism: some users don't understand the purpose of that page, and they put article text there instead of making an article.
Another concern I have is the way you used the patroller right you got recently: you patrolled articles without understanding exactly what needed to be done. I'd be concerned that you'd do something similar with the rollback right. You have to be very careful calling something vandalism, because the edit summary is permanent and it can reflect badly on the other user.
So right now, I wouldn't approve your request. In any case, I really prefer not to have rights requests on my talk page (see my page notice above). Please make future requests on the designated page(s). Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:31, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
That's fine, you can remove my patroller rights too if you want. However, I have checked your notices and their is nothing obvious on them so that is not my fault.ย :( MiloDenn (talk) 11:37, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
What notices do you mean? If you mean my page notice, the edit notice that displays when you're editing my talk page, it says "Asking for rights: To ask for rollback, patroller, or admin rights, please go to Wikipedia:Requests for permissions.". Sorry if I wasn't clear about what notice I meant. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:38, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Patrolling

I am not going to generally patrol pages, but if I nominate it for QD, should I also mark it as patrolled. Thanks MiloDenn (talk) 15:35, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I would say yes, because it means that the page has been checked, and other editors wouldn't need to check again. If an admin declines the qd, then at that time they can take any other steps that might be needed. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:41, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Municipality Categories

I am currently working on adding municipalities in Bavaria (Such as Buchenberg), and at the moment they have all been in the Oberallgau. I have been wondering exactly where to categorise them. The template on all of them automatially adds them to Category:Settlements in Bavaria, and I was adding them to the category Category:Municipalities in Bavaria. Recently I created a new category inside Category:Municipalities in Bavaria, located here: Category:Municipalities of Oberallgรคu. I then removed them from Category:Municipalities in Bavaria and added them there. I was wondering what your views are on this, and what category/categories they should go in. MiloDenn (talk) 16:11, 27 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Right now, Durach is overcategorized. If it's in Category:Municipalities of Oberallgรคu, it shouldn't also be in Category:Settlements in Bavaria. I looked at the template, comparing it to the enwiki version which doesn't seem to have this problem, and I think it would take someone with better template coding skills than me to fix it. As far as what we should do about this, I'm not sure. Are you planning to create more categories for municipalities in districts of Bavaria? If you aren't, I'd consider removing Category:Municipalities of Oberallgรคu. If you are, or if you don't want to remove that category, then I think we should look at changing Template:Infobox German location, probably to add a "nocat" function so we can suppress the automatic categorization. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:34, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I am planning to create more municipalities in districts of Bavaria categories, so I think adding a "nocat" function is a good idea. However, I am not entirely sure how to do this, and was wondering whether you could show me. Thanks, MiloDenn (talk) 13:56, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

This is being discussed at Wikipedia:Simple talk. I think it's better to keep the discussion there rather than also asking people individually. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:40, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Auntof6 - thanks a lot for your reply! The talk page simply does not work as expected - no single reply at Wikipedia:Simple talk#Maintenance - VGA stub.ogg, nor Wikipedia:Simple talk#2017-01-28 UnusedFiles. In most Wikipedias deleting unused files is part of routine maintenance. 77.180.79.168 (talk) 04:34, 29 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
You need to give people time to reply. We have fewer editors and fewer admins here than most Wikipedias. I am an admin, but since the discussion started there, I'd rather see it take place there. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:59, 29 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Nocat

Dear Auntof6, I would like to use <nocat>, as you suggested, on the German Location articles I am making, I was wondering if you could explain to me how to use the <nocat> function, and I can then implement that on the pages already created. Thanks very much for your help, MiloDenn (talk) 08:32, 29 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

You'd have to add code for it to the template, then add a parameter on each page where you want to use it. I would have added the code for you, but that part of the template was more complex than I wanted to tinker with at the time. An example of a template that uses it is Template:Jewish and Israeli holidays. If you want help getting the function added to the template, I suggest asking at Simple talk. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:20, 29 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deletion

Hello, I previously nominated the article at Noggin (TV channel) for deletion. While some vandalism has been removed now, there is still a fair amount of hoax content on the page (anything involving Fox and News Corporation is false information). It seems that it has been vandalism from the start - this revision of an English Wikipedia article was copied, altered to display hoax names and some hoax material, then posted to create the first revision in 2008. I have been working on creating a simple version on the topic from scratch (even the salvageable text on the current article is too complex, as it was directly lifted from the English WP) but have looked through the edit history and it seems editors have consistently restored versions of the original hoax article over the years. Would you be able to delete the page temporarily so that the hoax revisions would not be restorable, and so I could create it tomorrow with only referenced information? Fanfixer (talk) 10:01, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Done. I'm sorry I didn't check it over enough before declining the qd. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:04, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Madagascar (movie)

This page feels completely redundant to Madagascar (disambiguation). Do you think the redirect should be maintained like it was in English Wikipedia? The disambig also feels incomplete compared to the one in English. Also, I need help simplifying the statement "Madagascar is an island country located off the eastern coast of Africa." What should I say instead of located? 104.58.147.208 (talk) 14:27, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree. It's better to have all disambiguation for a term on one page. I have changed the page back to a redirect.
On your second question, how about this: "Madagascar is an island country in the Indian Ocean. It is off the eastern coast of Africa." I usually remove the word located. To me, the first sentence should state only the very basic fact. You could even split that first sentence, but I think it's OK the way it is. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:29, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

What I have to do?

I was busy and I did not used Wikipedia for a couple of days, so I did not see that there was a "speedy deletion" request on an article that I have just created: Italian invasion of French Somaliland. What I have to do in this case? The article does not exist on en.wikipedia, as you can check if you want: I have taken many excerpts from the encyclopedia WOW (similar to Wikipedia), and I was ready to change it if necessary. Sorry for my mistake. One question: can I start a new one -titled for example Italian tentative to occupy French Somalia- but with my own words, and with the most simple English sentences? Thanks. --48sa (talk) 03:01, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@48sa:The article was deleted because it was copied from multiple English Wikipedia articles without being simplified enough. You could ask at Wikipedia:Deletion review to have the deletion reviewed, or the article could be restored to your userspace for you to work on there. Since you are fairly new here, you might first want to read about this wiki's requirements. Here are some pages that are useful for people who are new here:
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:34, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your answer. But it sounds too much "complicated" to me, a beginner who only wrote with IPs before, to do all the process of deletion reviewed. If you allow me I can start a new one with the title I wrote above. Anyway, thanks the same for your help. You are very kind. --48sa (talk) 03:54, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@48sa: The deletion review process is basically just asking to have a deleted article restored. When you start the new article, you might want to start it in your userspace and have someone check it before you make the actual article. Just be sure you understand how to write in simple language and give attribution. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:09, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help. I am going to write on my userspace (that I think it is my talk page) in simple language the new article "Italian tentative to occupy French Somalia". I hope you can check it. Thanks again.--48sa (talk) 03:22, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I have written the new article here: " https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sandbox ". Please, can you check it, when you wish? Thanks.--48sa (talk) 03:44, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
You can't put it there: that's the main Wikipedia sandbox that's for everyone to use, and it gets reset regularly. You need to put it in your own user space. I have put it at User:48sa/sandbox. I will try to look at it later. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:37, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Changes by 50.29.102.28 to BLP articles.

Hello. I saw your comment concerning the Vandalism report I filed yesterday against User:50.29.102.28, in which you said that their changes weren't vandalism. Could you explain this to me please? What I saw was an IP user making loads and loads of categories, and just adding them to BLP articles without sourcing any of the information, giving some people decents ranging from Cherokee Native American, to Welsh.

I classified it as vandalism because they were asked to stop doing what they were doing, initially by another user in a polite manner, then by myself in a similar way. When they ignored those requests, I undid their work because it seemed like they were not taking notice, and marking it as vandalism. Can you tell me how this was wrong, and what I should have done? Thanks. Sunil The Mongoose (talk) 09:08, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I believed that the user was acting in good faith, making categories and adding them to articles. He/she may or may not have known that we decided in the past not to have the type of category that was being added. We don't have any guideline, as far as I remember, about sourcing information implied by most categories, including these. That's why I didn't consider it vandalism. With some kinds of changes, it's hard to graduate warnings to the point of warning that the user will be blocked, because we don't have specific rules about them. As for the user being asked multiple times to stop what they were doing, only one of the warnings mentioned categories specifically. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:06, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ruth Plant

Thanks for your message. In fact the chronology was the other way around, but you are not to know. I inadvertently created the article on Ruth Plant on Simplified Wikipedia and was unaware of the existence of Simplified Wikipedia until I found that none of the links worked (which has been the subject of a separate discussion). Having realised my mistake I created the page on Wikipedia, where it should have been in the first place. I could not find a way of deleting the page on Simplified Wikipedia, but see that this will now be occurring automatically. Thank you for your input on this. Categories with G4

I don't really think you can keep deleting categories based on a 3 year old discussion as G4. Categories are always going to have similar content and deletion discussions are not forever since consensus can change. On en for example once a few months have passed you rarely can get away with using a G4 even for articles as it was mostly intended for immediate recreations. That being said can't believe I missed that discussion. It was definitely a bad result, for many notable people their descent is a very key defining aspect of their notability. To use some of the recent people that were in those categories that just got deleted. Cheech's whole career was built around the fact he was a Mexican-American. Or Stallone and being an Italian American. It is definitely something that needs to go back to an actual Rfd if they are ever recreated again because I am not so sure the consensus will hold. -DJSasso (talk) 12:31, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Then why don't you be proactive and start a discussion now, maybe at deletion review? If you're saying that the categories should exist for people whose descent is notable, they aren't the only people who end up in those categories. When I look at the articles that were added to these categories this time around, I see few about people whose descent is significant. Once the categories are created, some editors will try to categorize every biography into them, whether or not the person's descent is significant. By the way, I'm not the only person who has deleted these over the years since the RfD; as I was deleting them, I saw previous deletions by others for the same reason. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:32, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh I know it wasn't just you, I was just making a comment since you were the one I noticed today and had seen that you had done it a number of times over the years. It wasn't an attack or anything. Was just something I observed and thought I should mention since those categories can never get recreated if people keep deleting them as G4 before they even have a chance to be filled. Its harder to have a discussion about something that doesn't exist than something that does which is why I suggested that the next time they are recreated then it should be discussed instead of immediately deleted. Their continual creation speaks to the likelihood of people expecting to be able to find people based on those characteristics. I was just using those bios as examples of how descent is an important aspect of biographies. Once created, everyone should be added to them so I don't see that as being an issue. Descent is very central to who a person is which is the point of categories, to group subjects by defining characteristics. -DJSasso (talk) 17:08, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I guess we'll have to disagree. I don't see descent as being that important in most cases, at least not important enough to have categories. I also see these as more of a case of "let's create these because we can" or even "let's create these because enwiki has them". And how far back do we go in a person's family tree to see if they belong in one of these categories? But those are issues for a discussion. I still say we should have the discussion as a deletion review, if you want it discussed. And if you think we shouldn't use old RfDs as justification to delete, maybe that should be specified in the QD option for that. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:45, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Need approval and unblock to create WebJaguar wikipedia page

Hi,

I tried to create webjaguar page several times but it was deleted everytime. And I was already by the administrator. I wanna confirm that I did not put any advertising and all of the source from the Internet is legal and approved. Can you give me right direct to let me know what was wrong based on your policy?

Thank you so much for your help โ€” This unsigned comment was added by 184.189.202.178 (talkย โ€ขย changes)ย at 18:27, 10 February 2017โ€Ž.

I don't see that the article you mention ever existed on this Wikipedia. I also don't see that your IP address was ever blocked here. In fact, the onky edits made here by this IP were to this talk page. Is it possible that this all happened on English Wikipedia? If the things you mentioned happened there, you need to ask for help there. This is the Simple English Wikipedia, which is a separate site.
By the way, please sign your posts on talk pages by putting four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each post. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:10, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Overcoming Obstacles Wikipedia Page

Auntof6 -

You responded to my note about Overcoming Obstacles on the Deletion Review page. You mentioned that you had not seen my page deleted from the simple english wikipedia but rather from the english wikipedia. I am not sure I know the difference between the two. Could you explain that in more detail?

Thank you for your help. โ€” This unsigned comment was added by 2603:3008:206:d200:1ddb:919c:37fc:7af3 (talkย โ€ขย changes)ย at 14:56, 15 February 2017โ€Ž.

They are two different Wikipedias. The one where we are having this discussion is Simple English Wikipedia. If you look at the URL, you will see "simple.wikipedia.org". On English Wikipedia, you will see "en.Wikipedia.org". Sometimes it helps to think of Simple English Wikipedia as a Wikipedia for a different language (as French Wikipedia is for a different language), just one that happens to use a subset of English vocabulary. Contrary to what you might think, it's actually harder to write in simple language for this wiki than to write for full English Wikipedia.
On Simple Wikipedia, the goal is to keep language in articles simple. Wikipedia:Simple English Wikipedia has some information about that. There are also other things that are done differently here. I have a list of some of them at User:Auntof6/Things I would like Wikipedia editors to know#Things we do here that might be different from other Wikis.
I hope that answers your question. Feel free to ask any other questions you have. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:01, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

QD question

Hey there

Just wondering, is there any reason to keep Category:Azad Jammu and Kashmir? I put the QD tag up because it was empty, and no articles in the main article space link to it. I'm still pretty rusty getting back into the swing of editing, so any insight would be great! Thanks, --Gordonrox24ย |ย Talk 02:47, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Every once in a while we seem to get people linking to it, so I think it's worth keeping as a category redirect. Redirects (either category or article) are cheap, so I don't usually delete them if they're at all likely to be used. I'm now watching this one and the one it redirects to, so I'll see it if anyone tries to switch them again. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:59, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Nonexistent users

Wow, that's a lot of IP user pages. Can't you just use Special:Nuke and set the filters to "user namespace" and "created by unregistered user"? Agrave Banks --- (talk - contribs - email) 20:20, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Would that delete all user pages that were created by unregistered users? That's not what we want, because an unregistered user could create a user page for an existing user. That would be unusual, but not deleteable. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:22, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well, it's not officially listed in QD, but it is still deleteable under the criteria of "user pages must only be created and edited by the user to whom they belong or an administrator with a sufficient explanation for doing so". At least that's the rule on EN Wikipedia. Agrave Banks --- (talk - contribs - email) 20:50, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
That doesn't specifically say that the pages should be deleted if another user creates them. I would leave it to the owner of the page, unless the page violates some other deletion criterion.
By the way, I looked at that function, and I didn't see where you would enter the "created by unregistered user" filter. How would you enter that? --Auntof6 (talk) 21:12, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I don't have access to the page, so I can't say for sure. However, I know that function does exist on the personal wiki that I run. Agrave Banks --- (talk - contribs - email) 21:14, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!

I just wanted to thank you for the changes I had made to the 22nd Amendment Wiki, which you corrected, because it was not in simple English. Hi ... well, I was a bit surprised that you keep an article that besides having no references is wrong. He mentions as 1967 Nobel prize winner E.H. Kamton ... in 1967 there was not a Nobel winner with this name [1]. And if you look at Google the sentence "the flow of urine first thing in the morning in revitalizing and essential to the ballance of the day! ... it does not appear anywhere so all article is fake. @DARIO SEVERI: Then do a QD request with a different option, like maybe the one for hoaxes. You used the one for notability, and that can only be used for people, groups, companies, products, services or websites. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:49, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I understand that my QD request was not a perfect one but usually, in others Wikis, the sysops are more "flexible" mainly when the request is from other sysop. Usually I do that, too, with any user, but this one wasn't as obvious. I haven't forgotten about these articles. I will definitely check them before they go back. how does that cat-a-lot function

Hey Auntof6: When you use that cat-a-lot, how does that function? Angela Maureen (talk) 21:06, 10 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's something that started on Wikimedia Commons, but it can also be used on Wikipedias. It lets you do a lot of category work all at once. For example, you can move a lot of things from one category to another, add them to a category, or remove them from a category. If you aren't careful, you can do a lot of damage in a hurry! Do you have something in mind that you might use it for? --Auntof6 (talk) 21:18, 10 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

It can be tricky to use a YouTube video as a reference. Anyone can put anything they want in a YouTube video, so it's not usually a reliable source. I suppose it could be reliable if the video is from the official channel of a reliable source. Even if a video isn't a reliable reference, it can go in the "Other websites" section. What video are you thinking of using, and for what purpose?
By the way, please don't change the timestamps in your signatures. The timestamp is a record of when the post was made, and should show that time. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:33, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Back-up ambassador for School Project?

Hi Auntof6--You have kindly given feedback on/edited/watched our school projects in the past. We were wondering if you would kindly assist us once more? This year, we are once again building on Subject-Verb-Object lessons in English, with Notable Female Scientists selected by our science teachers.

This time, students will write entries one day, edit/improve someone else's the next. The project will run from 3/28 to 3/31, at several points between 3pm UTC and 10pm UTC each day.

I'm in communication with the very helpful Peterdownunder (talk) about being an ambassador, but I was wondering if we might also reach out to you if we have questions or issues, as well? I always want to be careful because we are working from a specific IP range (listed in on the project page linked below) and sometimes our range has been blocked while we are working in class due to the frequent access.

Project page: Wikipedia:Schools/Projects/Notable Female Scientists

Thank you for considering. Castilibrary2 (talk) 19:32, 24 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'd be glad to help where I can, although I can't be available during all the hours that your classes will be active. Is there anything specific you'd like me to do? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:39, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I understand, of course. My main concern is just that once or twice in the early years of this project we apparently got blacklisted while students were editing at school. I hope there might be someone I can check in with if their changes start getting blocked due to several people editing from the same IP range. I don't know if you have access to help with an issue like that? Otherwise, we will just look forward to the same level of expert advice and guidance that you generally offer. Thank you. Flooder: Best practice

Since you're the main one here using this (as I do on Ladino Wikipedia), I thought I'd share with you a comment from m:Meta:Babel: It seems that best practice now would be to assign this flag with an expiration time. I would always plan to deflag myself when I'm finished, but this is a good backup for "in case we forget to do that". You might want to edit WP:Flood flag to that end, also. (I'm glad to do that, if you wish, but know that you usually keep an eye on that.) StevenJ81 (talk) 14:10, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Oh this is great. This has been one of my peeves about handing out this right is that often people aren't around to remove it. -DJSasso (talk) 14:56, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Djsasso: This will substantially take care of the problem. But one other thing this wiki can doโ€”I did it at ladwiki when I put in a phabricator to add the flooder groupโ€”is to allow flooders to unflag themselves. See lad:Especial:DerechosGruposUsadores. (In Ladino, the group is called "Mabรบl".) StevenJ81 (talk) 16:04, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Note that the shortest duration available automatically is one day. But you can set any time you likeโ€”even just a couple of hoursโ€”by using the other/custom choice. A quirk: you have to enter the time as UTC, but then it will appear in the log (to you) based on the time zone setting you have in your preferences. So if I manually enter "17:00, 25 April 2017", I will see "13:00, April 25, 2017" based on my settings. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:11, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Delete that image

Just delete that image โ€” This unsigned comment was added by Kazher45 (talkย โ€ขย changes)ย at 09:30, 25 April 2017โ€Ž.

@Kazher45: I assume you mean the image of Muhammad. I can't delete the image because it isn't here on Simple English Wikipedia: it's on Wikimedia Commons. If you mean that you want it removed from the article, then I have to decline. It has been established that an image on that article is appropriate because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a religious document. For more information, see notes on the talk page of the English Wikipedia article on Muhammad. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:41, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: On main Wikipedia page(non simple English page) of "Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him".

There is no image on main header as found on your Page. If there is in rest of articles, those are getting discussed and will be deleted soon, Inshallah. And moreover I can't find such material on wikimedia Commons. If there is, Then as per policy of neutral viewpoint you can't post whatever you want just quoting your opinion and by referring wikimedia commons or any other sub-wiki. One notable thing is that you are contradicting yourself as you posted image and wrote that it is probhited to draw imagesโ€‹ in own article.

Taking neutral viewpoint policy in mind, anyone can assume that people who don't respect anyone's religion can do this type of work.

I meant that the image is stored on Commons (it is here). This Wikipedia mostly doesn't have images of its own: it pulls images from Commons. Here on Wikipedia, the image could be removed from the article, but not actually deleted.

Anubias afzelii and Anubias gilletii

Hi, I'm an experienced user on the English WP, but much less so here. I've recently created two articles, based on the enwiki ones, and simplified them. I'd greatly appreciate if you could have a look at them and tell me whether I'm on the right track. Thanks in advance! --Randykitty (talk) 15:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Randykitty: I think these need to be simplified more.
  • There are complex words (even in some of the headings) that should be linked (if we have articles here for them), explained, or replaced with simpler words (words in headings should not be linked).
  • There are also compound sentences that should be divided into shorter ones. For example, the sentence "The plant grows in wet, shady places and flowers from the end of March to July, fruiting from April to September" is about three different things and should be divided into three sentences.
  • Since the articles were based on the enwiki ones, you also need to give attribution on the talk page.
Here are some pages that may help you with this:
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have more questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:16, 7 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
That's much better! I think a few things could still be simpler, but you definitely have the idea. I did some work on Anubias gilletii: see what you think. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:34, 7 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

"only" warnings

How severe does vandalism have to be for an "only" warning? Furthermore, just when should an "only" warning be used? Angela Maureen (talk) 16:20, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

It has to be extremely severe. These warnings could be used when there has been cyberbullying or a threat of violence. They are not used for offensive language (no matter how offensive), when a user is trying to provoke others, or just because all the other warning levels have already been used. These warnings should almost never be used. Keep in mind that if you leave an "only" warning when it isn't warranted, the admins won't block the user, so it's important to be sure it's warranted. If you're not sure, then don't use them. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:16, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) So here's a question for you, Auntof6. I used an only warning the other day, and you criticized me for it. The IP had been creating a nonsense page, and had been blocked two days earlier for substantially the same vandalism. I did not think the situation warranted starting over at level one warning and escalating. If you don't think a 4im-level warning should be used in a setting like that, is it ok to start immediately at (regular) 4-level warning? StevenJ81 (talk) 18:41, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Note: If it had been a week later or more, I would have given the IP the benefit of the doubt and assumed the user was someone different on the same dynamic IP address. But this was only two days later, so I did not think the same benefit of doubt was warranted. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:42, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
If vandalism is resumed soon enough after a block ends, it's similar to previous vandalism, and it looks like it's going to continue, you could probably just report at WP:VIP without further warnings. What constitutes "soon enough" is not specifically defined, as far as I know. This is probably a conversation we should be having in a more public place instead of on a user talk page. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:01, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Call of Duty: WWII

This article is in the wrong space. However, it looks to be mostly a copy of the enwiki article. It is larger than the article here (Call of Duty: WWII), but I don't think that's relevant. The article has to show that the subject is notable according to WP:Notability. That means that it has to talk about the thing(s) that make the subject worth having an article about. Citations can support notability by being evidence that the things an article says are true, but just having citations doesn't show notability. I didn't think the article I deleted said anything that showed notability. If you disagree, you can ask at WP:Deletion review for the article to be restored. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:54, 13 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

new page to inspect

Hey Auntof6: I've just created a new page, User:September 1988/Procter & Gamble. Before it goes in the main space, I'd like it inspected because there could be some complex wording in the article. Angela Maureen (talk) 16:35, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for checking before putting the article in mainspace! Here are some noites:
  • Complex words/phrases: consumer goods, headquartered, specializes, cleaning agents (mostly the "agents" part), personal care, hygienic (could be linked to hygiene), acquisition, exited, the rise of, made the jump
  • The phrase "the Ivory soap" doesn't need the word "the"
  • "acquisition for" should be "acquisition of", although "acquisition" should be simplified
  • "became soap operas" should say that they started being called soap operas, not that they became them
Hope that helps. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:05, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I removed the from Ivory soap. I removed consumer goods, headquartered and agents from cleaning. I also changed exited to got out of. Furthermore, I removed made the jump and the rise of. Last, but not least, I changed became soap operas to started being called soap operas. Is there anything else? Angela Maureen (talk) 19:27, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Good work! These things are stll complex: buyout, personal care (that term is vague). I would also change "The Procter & Gamble Co., or P&G," to "Procter & Gamble (P&G)". --Auntof6 (talk) 20:11, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I changed buyout to buying and removed personal care. How was personal care vague anyway? Also, I took care of the Procter & Gamble heading. Anything else? Angela Maureen (talk) 20:52, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
That looks pretty good. "Personal care" is vague because there are a lot of ways people can take care of themselves. It could refer to health, appearance, or grooming, for example. If the personal care products are an important part of their business, it would be better to describe them better or give examples. Aside from that, I would add a reference that is not from the company's owm website: that would show notability better. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:32, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I added several references that are not from the company's own website. Would that show notability? Angela Maureen (talk) 23:44, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Those references would be OK if they supported the text, but the ref for the statement about P&G making Duracell batteries actually says that they don't make them any more. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:58, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Is the article ready for main space? I corrected almost all the complex terms and wording. Angela Maureen (talk) 14:50, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think it's good enough now. Any other changes it needs could be done in mainspace. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:53, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Thomasredfield12345: I assume you mean your change to Wikipedia:Requested pages, since that is the only edit you have made here besides the one to this talk page. I reverted that change because that page is not for article content. That page is for listing the names of articles that people would like to have created. @September 1988: Angela, I hadn't noticed before, but we already have an article for this company, so I can't move yours to mainspace. The existing article has less info than yours, though, so you could merge what you wrote into the existing one. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:44, 27 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Paul.farrell67: I'm not sure what information you're trying to upload (with permission). If you mean the text that was in the article, we can't accept anything that's copyrighted, unless it's copyrighted under one of the licenses that Wikipedia accepts. I'm not well-versed in that area, so I recommend you ask someone else for help with that.
As for uploading files, Simple English Wikipedia doesn't host most files. We use files that are on Wikimedia Commons. There are also copyright issues on Commons. I've uploaded a few files on Commons, so I might be able to help with that, but not with the copyright side of it. In general, I think there are usually issues when people upload someone else's files. If you need help with just the uploading and not the copyright side, I might be able to help: contact me on Commons and describe the problem you're having. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:31, 3 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Another Just curious

I have not logged onto this site to read it in a very long time (or wikipedia for that matter). When I did log in today, I noticed a message from you on my talk page. It was about the deletion of a sub-page of my main page. In other words, it was my own personal notes. Why would my own personal notes that are located below my main page be objectionable or against Wikipedia's policy? If I had actually submitted the project proposal (as opposed to my own personal thoughts) or placed the article in a main space, I could understand the request for deletion. But my own personal thoughts being deleted? Being against Wikipedia?

As for the comment about what I wrote being inappropriate for Wikipedia, maybe you should read the main page of simple.wikipedia.org where is specifically states that the articles are intended for "children who are learning English". Simple Wikipedia is definitely NOT for children.

As for my abandoning the project, when I started to discuss the project with other editors I received threats. Threats to a level that I abandoned being a Wikipedia editor on both regular and simple Wikipedia.

I don't really care that the page was deleted, because I gave up on Wikipedia and simple wikipedia in 2009, and your actions only reinforce that decision to be the correct decision.

My opinion of Simple Wikipedia editors is that they are a bunch of horny teenage boys who are being put in charge of editing of material that they would never be allowed to view in any other format (books, movies, magazines, etc.) My intentions were not hostile. If an article was related to sexuality (technical terms of human sexual anatomy), just put in under the main parent category of "human sexuality". Then everything else falls into the area of parental control software that an end user chooses or not chooses to install.

But knowledge scares people, especially horny teenage boys who don't want anything to get in the way of them having easy access to things they want to have access to.

Duplicate Template Arguments

Do you use a tool such as findargdups to find duplicate template arguments? If so, how can I install it here on simple? eurodyne (talk) 07:44, 14 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Eurodyne: No, I find the pages in Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. If you edit an article and then preview it, you'll see one or more messages at the top of the preview saying what parameters are duplicate and in what template call(s) they are. For example, when I preview the current version of South Bend, Indiana, I see this message in red: "Warning: South Bend, Indiana is calling Template:Infobox settlement with more than one value for the "settlement_type" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used." --Auntof6 (talk) 07:56, 14 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

had been vs was

Auntof6, one recent article that I made had said: Before that, she had been Miss Arkansas 2016. Had been was changed to was. Also, the words to win the title were removed. For what particular reason? Angela Maureen (talk) 05:38, 20 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I changed "had been" to "was" because it's simpler. I removed "to win the title" because it was redundant with the earlier part of the sentence: "Shields is the third Miss America from Arkansas" already says that she was Miss America, you don't need to also say that she won the Miss America title. It could also have been changed to "Shields is the third person from Arkansas to win the title", but I thought the way I did it was simpler and reads better. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:10, 20 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Re: Declined QD on Choshu

Hi, just wondering why you declined the QD on Choshu. It was a one sentence test that had little or no meaning as I indicated in the change summary. Choshu is not a city in Japan. The page is just kind of misleading non information. If you could let me know what you think I should have done that would be great. Should I have used a different A or G code for the QD? Thanks. Gotanda (talk) 12:20, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) I have deleted the page under A6. I googled for a bit, and I cannot find anything regarding a city called Choshu. All I could find was a feudal domain called Choshu on enwp. If anyone can find sources to the contrary, please do recreate the page, appropriately sourced. Cheers, --George (Talk ยท Contribs ยท CentralAuth ยท Log) 12:54, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I doubt it was an intentional hoax. Not much point really. More likely an error. But will remember A6 for the "surely fake or impossible." Best! Gotanda (talk) 13:02, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
A6 is for obvious hoaxes. A page that says only "X is a city in Y" may be a hoax, but not an obvious one. --Auntof6 (talk) 15:56, 21 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Notability tags

Hi, I was wondering what prompted this again? I explained very clearly in my prior edit summary. I realize there is one source but this subject is very clearly notable. This is very discouraging for new editors on Simple wiki and also editors who are familiar with Wikipedia in general who wish to help out. I don't know that en:WP:BEFORE exists on here, but maybe it should. Chrissymad (talk) 20:29, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

To me, the article doesn't show notability. What are you seeing that makes the character "clearly" notable? It just gives some basic facts about him. Being on a notable show doesn't make a character notable, because notability is not inherited. Having sources doesn't make him notable if those sources aren't used to support a claim of notability, which the ones in this article don't. I'm not saying that the character isn't notable, just that the current article doesn't show the notability. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:54, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Chrissymad: Do you think you'll be adding anything to this article to show notability? I'm considering nominating it for deletion for lack of notability; if nothing else, we'd get some other input on it. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:34, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Auntof6 I fully understand how Wikipedia works and I'm pretty sure the notability guidelines are no different here than on English Wikipedia. The character is very much notable and yes, I'm still working on the article but if you feel like it should be deleted, by all means nominate it but this doesn't begin to address the issues I've brought up. A main character on a worldwide show, that has broken records in viewership and has had significant in-depth coverage of that character in reliable sources is the definition of notable. Chrissymad (talk) 21:44, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I didn't think it needed to be deleted. I thought it needed to be tagged for notability. However, you removed the tag I added without making any changes to address the notability issue. As for your description of what constitutes notability: your first two items (show is worldwide and show has broken records) are about the program but not its characters. Characters in a notable show are not automatically notable on their own. Your third item is more to the point, but the article still contains only basic non-notable info about the character. I look forward to seeing what gets added. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:03, 26 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

becoming an admin

I've decided that I'm gonna apply for admin rights in August 2017. I have learned the warning system here on Simple English. I've also learned when to revert edits, though I've made some errors. Sometimes other editors are making changes before I can make them, and that is all right. I wanna become an admin because I like to help fight vandalism. In addition, I'm interested highly in blocking vandals, deleting pages and protecting pages. There are, though, some things for which I need help. Angela Maureen (talk) 23:19, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK. I'm not sure what you want from me. I would recommend studying all the policies and procedures we have: there's more to being an admin than the things you list. I also have to say that I'd have serious concerns about you being an admin, but let me know what other info you'd like from me. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:27, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I know when to revert, issue warnings, and report vandals. One thing I wanna be taught is the revision deletion of pages. I know when to delete revisions, but I need to know how. I hope other admins can teach me how. I also know that only the admins can see the deleted revisions. Furthermore, I know that admins are not more important than anybody else. Everyone is equal. I hope the other admins can help me in learning. Angela Maureen (talk) 23:47, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Angela, I can't agree with everything in your first sentence. I'd be glad to discuss why in detail if you like, either online or in email. Speaking of email, I know that your account isn't set up to allow others to email you. Did you know that admins are required to set up their accounts so that users can email them? --Auntof6 (talk) 23:59, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Can you please tell me why you disagree? Angela Maureen (talk) 00:24, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
One example is a time recently when you left an only warning for a user who had used bad language (I forget exactly what they said). I'm not talking about the one(s) you left for the user(s) leaving violent homophobic messages -- those deserved "only" warnings. This was the one about which I left a message on your talk page. You have to have a bit of a "thick skin" when deciding when and how to warn, much less when and how to block or revdel. Just using profanity without any kind of accompanying threats or anything does not warrant an "only" warning -- it also doesn't necessarily warrant revdel. As admins, we can't block or revdel at will. We have to follow policies even when we can see that there will probably be a block later on. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:03, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
"Did you know that admins are required to set up their accounts so that users can email them?" I've never seen this as a requirement anywhere. Can you point out where this is discussed/required of admins? Only (talk) 00:25, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's what I was told when I became an admin. Before that, I didn't have an email account attached to my WP account, so I created a new one to use just for Wikimedia. I'd be happy to be wrong on this. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:03, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I will see if I can find it. I do know its something that has come up in the past and we did require it, just can't think of where its written. I know its required on en.wiki for sure. -DJSasso (talk) 01:24, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Almost. I made it a little simpler by dividing one of the sentences. I also did some other cleanup:
  • Moved the Commons template and pointed it to the correct place on Commons. When including a Commons template, make sure that Commons actually has the thing the template points to. As for where the template goes, that can be complicated: let me know if you'd like the specifics on that.
  • Used the correct simple heading "Related pages" that is used here instead of "See also".
  • Removed the references section because the article has no references
Let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:41, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ah brilliant thank you so much, I hadn't really thought about the commons template pointing to the wrong thing so I've updated that on all of my created articles and have also changed the See Also on one too,

@Danidamiobi: It was deleted because there wasn't anything meaningful in it. For example, one of the versions contained only the text "He was a poo face": that's not a useful article. Being deleted doesn't mean that we shouldn't have an article on the subject, just that the articles as created weren't valid. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:35, 30 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Here are the contents of the 3 different articles that have existed for โ€ŽAtta Ullah Khan:
  1. yyyaaaaaa boi
  2. He is not nice. He is stupid. He wanted to kill a Girl. Not nice.
  3. He was a poo face
I think you'll agree that Auntof6 was justified in deleting it each time. I will note that the English Wikipedia does not have an article on him. Generally speaking, our notability standards are even more stringent than the English Wikipedia, so if they don't have an article there, it's unlikely one would survive a deletion discussion here. @Davey2010: I know you said never mind, but I wanted to mention a couple of things. First, those templates are really needed only if there's meaningful content on the page. Things like templates, dab pages, list articles, etc. may not have such content. The other thing is that we can copy content from other places (not just Wikipedia) if it is covered by appropriate licenses, but we have to give credit (which Wikipedia calls "attribution"). Wikipedias and other Wikimedia sites are included in this, so most articles copied from or based on enwiki articles should use one of the attribution templates. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:02, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ahhh okay well I prefer adding them just to cover my own back really, I ran into alot of problems with the basedon template but obviously found enwpbased which I 100% prefer so it's not a problem although I've still been known to screw that up too[2][3]  ,
Oh no I know I mean if I had copied content from another site then I would use the correct template but if I'm honest I'd always stick with EN - Knowing my luck if I did copy content from elsewhere I'd end up getting confused and uploading a copyvio so to save all that I just stick with EN  , Thanks, โ€“Davey2010Talk 13:45, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Cultural advisories and warnings (in respect of an Aboriginal article)

Hello. I wanted to ask you about a template which I would like to have imported into this Wikipedia; it is used primarily at the main English Wikipedia and provides a culturally important warning on articles about Indigenous Australians and people from the Torres Strait Islands who have died. The English template is here.

I made a temporary version of it this morning in my own userspace, to attach to an article concerning an Indigenous Australian musician who recently passed away; you can find that template here, but I'd prefer the more appropriate one from English Wikipedia to be brought in, or for us to make our own version of it.

Any help you could offer would be welcomed. Thank you. DaneGeld (talk) 11:58, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

For people who don't name the dead, does it matter how long they have been dead? If so, would this template stay on an article forever? Does it matter whether the dead person is from their culture? If not, would we be putting the template on all articles about dead people? I don't think this is needed either here or on English Wikipedia. I have removed it because userspace templates don't belong in articles. I recommend bringing this up at WP:Simple talk instead of on an individual's talk page. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:05, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, I brought it to you because of asking about importing, which I was told I needed an admin for. I did state in my edit summary of course that it could be removed if it wasn't appropriate. I'll take it where you suggested! Thanks, DaneGeld (talk) 15:16, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2017/Category:Lists of scientists by nationality and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 23:09, 5 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Realitybigbrother's user page

Hello. The other day I saw an IP changing the user page stated above. When I looked at the page history, I found that multiple IPs changed the page regularly. This puzzled me, and I immediately thought, "SOCKPUPPET!". The creator of the page doesn't seem to mind the IPs, as he/she doesn't seem to revert any edits. As well, the IPs mainly edit this user page.

What should happen to the IPs? And what will happen to the page?

This struck me as an odd situation, and I couldn't figure out what to do. I was going to put this through the WP:RFCU but I wanted some input first. Thank you, Zhangj1079 (T|C) 00:34, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Zhangj1079: The page has now been deleted, and the user is indeffed. I added the user page to my watchlist, so I'll see if it gets recreated. If it does, it won't be by the owner, so it could be deleted. It's interesting that all the IPs who edited the page have edited Coach Trip (series 16) and nothing else. Do you think the page deletion and the user block address your concerns? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:54, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the deletion and user block do address my concerns. Thank you. Zhangj1079 (T|C) 12:10, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

{ping|Auntof6} Hello, I came from Wikipedia Vietnamese and would like to know some rules of making essays here. Nguyenducminh2508 (talk) 23:43, 9 August 2017 (UTC).Reply

Hello, Nguyenducminh2508, and welcome to Simple English Wikipedia.
Essays can be created in the Wikipedia namespace. They are categorized in Category:Wikipedia essays. The page en:Wikipedia:Essays gives some information about them. You might want to look at some existing essays to see what they are like. If you would like more information, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:40, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello

I create talk pages to add Projects and to assess articles. Adding cognizant projects allows other editors to participate in article improvement and work together to improve content. In addition, I have created a template that allows new page creators find the references they need to improve their articles. In ten years, I've never had anyone question the creation of talk pages. I found your message to me interesting. Best Regards, ย ย Bfpageย |leave a messageย  21:18, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Bfpage and Barbara (WVS): That isn't what I was seeing on the talk pages you created. All I saw was statements like "Leave a message here if you want to talk about this article." That is the basic purpose of all talk pages and doesn't require a talk page to be created. If you found my comment about this interesting, it could be that you aren't aware of how this Wikipedia works differently from others. Unlike English Wikipedia, we don't add articles to projects here (all projects are unofficial), and we don't do formal assessments, so those things wouldn't be needed on talk pages, either. You especially should not be removing the talk header templates, as you did on Talk:Mycoplasma amphoriforme and other pages. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:28, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Category:Nazis by manner of death

They're not articles; they're subcategories. - Bossanoven (talk) 22:45, 18 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Bossanoven: The message I left you is generic, and may not be worded as well as it could be. The requirement is that there be at least three entries in a category. The entries can be anything: articles, subcategories, templates, etc. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:07, 18 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Why would a subcategory containing multiple articles be equivalent to one article? - Bossanoven (talk) 23:10, 18 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Bossanoven: I wouldn't say they're equivalent, exactly. That guideline is to prevent having categories that contain only a minimal number of things, which can make people have to go through more category levels to find what they're looking for. This is one of several ways in which this Wikipedia is different from others. If you don't have another entry to put into Category:Nazis by manner of death right now, we can recategorize the existing entries (the subcats), delete the cat, and wait to recreate until there are three entries. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:48, 18 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Regarding User:attractor321 and their work

Good afternoon.

I noticed while looking through the wiki today, that attractor321 has started another seemingly confusing article, Metric expansion of space. I have tagged it as complex, but from seeing your note on their talk page, it doesn't look like the message is getting through. Could you please consider doing the same with this new article, as you did with User:attractor321/Novelty theory, which was to drop it in the person's userspace? Even I'm having trouble understanding his work, and I have a degree! Many thanks, DaneGeld (talk) 12:07, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@DaneGeld: Done. --Auntof6 (talk) 15:54, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: Thanks for your help on this. Unfortunately, he/she is at it again. See Rest mass. The last version before they started to work on it was complex, but only about 440 bytes in size. In the space of one day, it's now more than 3.5k in size and it's even more complicated than before. I left a thread on the Administrators noticeboard about their edits more than a week ago, which was not attended or commented on. I'm of the opinion (albeit most likely wrong and harsh), that something needs to be done about their editing. It simply doesn't fit in with what is needed here. Can I ask for Rest mass to be moved to userspace, since it's now far too complex to be a regular article. Many thanks. DaneGeld (talk) 16:40, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Remember that part of the audience of this Wikipedia is people whose first language is not English. Shortcuts like saying "the Atlantic" instead of using the full name of the ocean, and abbreviations like "mph" wouldn't be meaningful to some of that audience. It's best to give things their full name and not to use abbreviations. In fact, it's even best not to use abbreviations in encyclopedia articles in general. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:42, 9 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

If "only" a block, and not a ban ...

Hi,
(I have not read any edits that have been made since yesterday.)
In the remote case that I am not banned but "only" blocked for a determinate amount of time, there is one thing that might be beneficial for me to find out (in respect to editing on wiki):
You said, only one time I think, that I had been not polite to user:peterdownunder.
Come to think of it now: I must have been impolite or very-close-to-impolite. The "evidence" is in part, because that is the only time you have claimed that I have been impolite.
If I am "only" blocked, then it would be nice to know what phrase in particular, was inadequate on wikipedia, in that context,
so that I don't make the similar mistakes on wiki again.
The OP of the ban proposal has said, in general something similar to: "style of debating", or something like that.
I did not think user:peterdownunder said anything impolite.
If I had put more effort into only looking at a discussion, once every two or three days, and made an effort to stay away from talk pages,
then a ban proposal might have been averted, or at least delayed.
Anyway, please don't reply (to this post) until the ban proposal has run its course.
I might have "wiki-practical" questions for you, before the ban proposal has run its course.
I have enjoyed working with you, and I might add that "category work" beyond finding one category, does not interest me (or I am not too interested in developing any talent regarding that).
Thank you for your good work. Sju hav (talk) 12:17, 15 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Your recommendation about how one ought to do work in mainspace, on "grouping mathematicians by country"

"Teenagers are legally children"

Teenagers are not children. Legally, maybe, but the government is ageist. Biologically, they are adolescents, which is a category of its own, seperate from "children" and "adults". How would you feel if you were 14 and you were treated like a 6 year old? By the way, I heard you were a suspected sock and have requested a CheckUser for you and Eurodyne. Thanks, Single4Life (talk) 04:16, 20 September 2017 (UTC)Single4LifeReply

@Single4Life: The part about teenagers is your point of view. If there is a movement that feels this way, it might be an interesting subject for an article. As for requesting a checkuser on Eurodyne and me, I saw that, because users are notified when their pages are linked. I'm just sorry you couldn't recognize that the user who said we were socks (along with a lot of others, by the way) was being disruptive. Admins are frequent targets of disgruntled users, and such accusations are not unusual. You'll see that if anyone feels there is enough evidence to do the check. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:44, 20 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Looking for someone with a better memory...

Hi Auntof6. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, we had a vandal on here who was signing their change summaries. I can't find them at VIP or AN, and I can't remember who the heck it was! We have an IP (50.94.111.11) with no talk page contribs, so I assume no warnings - but I don't think this was who it was. IP sandboxes

I note your closure of my RFD that IPs cannot have sandboxes. Where is this spelled out in our guidelines/policies? Before I nominated it, I looked for such a rule but could not find it anywhere. I also referred to the English Wikipedia in absence of one here but could not find such a policy there. The consensus there in MFDs that I saw for IP sandboxes seems to be that IPs can have sandboxes, but they can be deleted based on their merits (i.e. usefulness for the project or inactivity of the user). Only (talk) 15:04, 30 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Davey2010: I've done some simplifying and other things. There are some other things that could be addressed:
  • Can we find a different word for "rebadged"? That's not a simple word.
  • Same for "facelift": that's not a simple word even when used for its primary meaning. When used here, it's not only complex, it's probably jargon.
  • I think you could remove the headings for the facelift sections.

change of words

Hey Auntof6: The fires broke out was changed to the fires started. Also, costliest was changed to most expensive. For whatever particular reason were the words changed? Angela Maureen (talk) 22:30, 20 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Because the words I used are simpler. "Break out" is not simple, neither is "costly". --Auntof6 (talk) 22:36, 20 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Simple English needs to be simple, and avoid using words that will confuse non English speakers. So to say that a fire "broke" is a colloquial term, and should be avoided. Ask yourself, how would you break a fire?. Costliest is a word I would change too, it is a bit clumsy, most expensive is easier and simpler to understand. Hope this explanation helps. They were good questions to ask. Writing simple is not simple.--Peterdownunder (talk) 22:40, 20 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Your revert of my RVV on Pasty...

Hi Auntof6. I just got a notification to say that you had undone a revert I made on Pasty after an IP editor vandalised it. Your edit summary said "undoing vandalism". That makes me feel bad, cause it looks like I vandalised it and you were fixing it- but that's what I was doing when I reverted the IP. What happened? DaneGeld (talk) 23:42, 29 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that. You didn't do any vandalism. That IP made two edits that were vandalism, and you only reverted one of them. I reverted back to the last good version, which happened to undo your revert. If you want, I'll make another edit and use an edit summary to explain the previous edit summary. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:46, 29 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Auntof6, I'd really appreciate that. It took me a bit by surprise because when I use "undo", from History, it undoes sequential edits, like 2 by the same editor one after the next. I take it the Rollback function doesn't do that. DaneGeld (talk) 23:58, 29 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done. I didn't use rollback for that revert. Rollback will revert multiple changes only if they're all by the same editor. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:06, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
No, you didn't - but I did! If the IP made 2 in a row, shouldn't twinkle's rollback function have caught them both? Thanks for clarifying that, by the wayย :) DaneGeld (talk) 00:11, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
It looks like only the rollback function that you get with the rollback right will undo/revert multiple edits. You don't have to have that right to use the Twinkle function. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:27, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deva (composer) and Gangai Amaran article deletion

These two articles were simplified by me and then only i saved those changes. Please recover me these articles and tell me the complex words to be simplified. Thank you--wiki tamil 100 (talk) 03:26, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Another help. Instead of deleting the complex articles, please help me in simplifying them, I can't identify the complex words.--wiki tamil 100 (talk) 03:29, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Wiki tamil 100: I will restore them to your userspace and give you some help in simplifying them, but ultimately you need to be able to simplify things yourself. There's more to it than just replacing complex words. If you haven't already, please read the following pages to get more information about writing in simple language and simplifying articles from enwiki:
Several articles you created have been deleted for not being simplified enough. Looking at others you created, I think others could be deleted for the same reason. Because of that, I ask you not to create any new pages in mainspace until you work on the ones I will restore and are better able to write in the simple language that's needed here. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:46, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Requesting for Rollback permission

Sir, With respect I would like to inform you that I have request for "Rollback" permission at RfP. I am you requesting to grant the request soon. I have a huge amount of removing unhelpfull edits. I am also warning users who makes unhelpfull edits. I pray and hope that you would be king enough to give me the permisson. Thanks in advance. T@hmid02016 (talk) 11:05, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) I note that since you were told your rollback request was on hold because Enfcer suggested you needed to practice warning users more in conjunction with your reverts, youโ€™ve made at least 25 reverts of vandalism that did not also include a warning to that user you reverted. Thatโ€™s a large bulk of the reverts you made in that span. Only (talk) 11:57, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
On RfP, User:Enfcer said that he would review your request after a few days. User:Only has given you a reply here that I agree with. Since two admins have said no, or at least not yet, I will not give you rollback. Please make your requests on RfP and not on user talk pages. Asking here after the reply you got on the request page shows bad faith. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:48, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) I have responded on the RfP page. I have went on an declined the right for know, with the advice to use the talk page warnings more frequently. Once they get use to using them on a regular basis, then they can re-apply. -- Enfcer (talk) 22:27, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of page

Hello, why was EMILY's List Australia page deleted? We are a not for profit in Australia, so I do not know why it was deleted over night. Can you please explain, and also explain how I can get our page reinstated? Thanks, Lisa LisaMCarey (talk) 00:32, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@LisaMCarey: The page was deleted because it did not indicate notability. The entire content of the page was "fund-raising and support network for Labor women." Articles on Wikipedia have to include something about why their subject is notable according to Wikipedia's definition of notability. You might like to read WP:Notability for more information about this. If you recreate the article, take care that it isn't written in a way that sounds promotional. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:53, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

User:Jason Dude Smith

Aunt, as you well know, I find your close fidelity to the rules here frequently laudable, and occasionally frustrating. You are probably technically correct in having removed the cleanup templates from the user page, but I'm really at a loss as to how to bring attention to a page like that:

  • It's a duplicate of the "article" page that is up at RfD.
  • It goes far beyond the permissible content of a user page.
  • This page does fit into the category of BLP, and while we give users a certain amount of flexibility in giving information about themselves without sourcing it, this again goes far beyond the ordinary scope of that flexibility.

As an additional issue, both the user himself and an IP address that geolocates to Leicester College have removed the RfD template repeatedly from the "article" page and warnings from the user talk page. So there is sockpuppetry going on (a policy violation per se) and inappropriate removal of material from various pages, too. If he were doing this on a wiki where I am sysop I would already have blocked. Got any ideas? StevenJ81 (talk) 14:12, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: I share your frustration. I have just blocked the user, but for interfering with the RfD, not for inappropriate content on their user page. If the user's behavior continues after the RfD and the block end, we can consider blocking as a case of "not here".
Maintenance tags and the rules for BLPs apply to articles, not to user pages, especially where the user is writing about himself on his own user page. The fact that the user is writing in third person, and in the tone and format usually used for articles doesn't change that. I think that what's on this page fits within the user page guideline, even if I might prefer not to have it there and it may have been put there in bad faith. What we can do is make sure the user doesn't do things like make the user page indexed or use categories that are intended for use on articles. We can take (and have taken) these pages to RfD if appropriate.
By the way, what you describe is technically not sock puppetry. Sock puppetry requires multiple registered users. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:34, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Filmography article

Mam I want the reason for the deletion of K.Balachander filmography article. What is if the article contains red links. I was making steps to make article from those red links to improve the simple wiki. Moreover there are many articles in this wiki with much red links. Please restore it. Those red links will move to blue. Then it is also not a complex article, it is just a list of films directed by the social film director K.Balachander. Kindly i request you to restore it. With respect. wiki tamil 100 (talk) 15:21, 2 November 2017 (UTC).Reply

@Wiki tamil 100: First, when you leave a message on my talk page and you're waiting for a reply, it isn't necessary to remind me less than a day later. It can take a few days for me to reply, and sometimes even longer.
The note about red links was additional information. The main reason the page was deleted was that it was not simplified from the English Wikipedia page.
  • The intro paragraph was not in simple language. The issues were some of the same ones I explained with the two articles I recently restored for you
  • The external links section should have been an "Other websites" section. This wiki doesn't use the term "External links".
  • The word "film" was used both in text and in the list. This wiki uses the word "movie" instead when talking about a motion picture.
After I restored two articles for you before, I asked you to work on those before creating any more pages. I intended that someone would review them before they went back to mainspace, but I may not have made that clear. I see that you recreated those two articles. There were some improvements, but they still need further simplifying. In addition, articles that you created since then have also not been simple enough. If you continue copying articles here without simplifying them enough, you might be restricted from creating them at all.
As for your request to restore this article, I will restore it to your userspace if you agree to work on it there and not to put it back in mainspace until someone checks it. Do you agree? If not, please make your restore request at WP:Deletion review instead, which is the usual place for this kind of request anyway. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:31, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes please restore it. Thank you for your infomation.--wiki tamil 100 (talk) 07:18, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Wiki tamil 100: OK, it is now at User:Wiki tamil 100/K. Balachander filmography. Please do the following:
  • Simplify the article as described above.
  • Get someone to check the page for simplicity. I can do it, or you can ask someone else.
  • If another user agrees that it is simple enough, it can be moved back to mainspace.
Let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:58, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Could I ask that you look at this article as other wikis have responded to the burst of editing on like articles by deleting their articles as lacking notability. I didn't realize I was supposed to say the range. I thought there might be others that I was missing and that you would be able to tell how far to make the range. @Lionbensur: He may be notable, but the article didn't have anything in it to show that. Neither does the English Wikipedia article. Besides that, Wikipedia itself can't be used to show notability. What exactly is he notable for? --Auntof6 (talk) 11:11, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Auntof6: you can read the bloomberg and forbes to know what exactiy he is notable .if it didn't have anything to show his notability the sources can show that to you also other users can participate in improving article.deletion is very easy but creating is hard.Lionbensur (talk) 11:17, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm not the person who wants the article, you are, so it's up to you to show notability in the article text. I asked you the question because that's what you need to answer in the article. It's not enough to have references to things that show notability. Articles need to say why the subject is notable. --Auntof6 (talk) 11:25, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I reported this IP to VIP, and it was denied, saying that the newer edits were good. I saw in recent changes today that this edit was made. [4]. This leads me to believe that this IP is being used by two people to edit the simple wikipedia. As one of them is using it for a bad purpose, I request the IP be blocked and a notice put there to ask them to make an account in order to get around the block, so we can distinguish from the two users. Thanks, Adotchar| reply here 10:58, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

That's the thing about IPs: they can legitimately be used by more than one person. All we can do is issue warnings, then block if enough bad edits happen within a short enough period of time. There are two warnings right now, but they are both several days old so they're probably irrelevant now.
Right now I don't consider it time to block. Even if we did block, it would be temporary (we aren't allowed to permanently block IPs), so the bad editing could return. As for asking the user(s) to register, we can only suggest that, and wording to that effect is already included with the warnings. --Auntof6 (talk) 13:03, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks! Adotchar| reply here 15:52, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Umberto Pettinicchio

Hi Auntof6. I saw you deleted and quite rightly the garbled machine translation, Umberto Pettinicchio. This one of the many products of the globally blocked User:Alec Smithson. (See en:Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Alec Smithson for more). It was deleted from the Italian Wikipedia as a copyright violation from the artist's website. Smithson has been very active here under constantly changing IP socks, as recently as four days ago. I propose to re-create the article with a short stub based on the English WP article which I wrote. He also created the dreadful Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporรกneo de Santander y Cantabria here on Simple. I'm going to cut that way back and rewrite it with the basic facts in simple English. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 09:10, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Voceditenore: Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if you're asking anything from me, but you don't need my blessing to recreate the article. If you create it based on the enwiki articke, just be sure to do attribution. Sounds like you'll be giving us some good content, so thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 09:28, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. No I wasn't asking anything, just giving you a heads-up that I was about to recreate an article you deleted. Coffee Shop University

Hi Auntof6, hope all is fineย :) Was going to amend the text and info in the page Coffee Shop University, a new philosophical book with deep implications on our way of life and an analysis on intercultural problems. Could you please advise of the best way to present such a subject? Thanks, Ducati-2007

@Ducati-2007: First, the article needs to show that the book meets Wikipedia's notability criteria for books, which you can find at en:WP:NBOOK. The article should also be written in the kind of simple language required here, and not read like a press release. Other comments I'd have on the article as it was written are:
  • There should be no external links in the text.
  • If the book is nonfiction as stated, there shouldn't be a plot section. A plot is the storyline of something fictional
  • The list of financial articles by the author doesn't seem to have anything to do with the book and the articles don't seem to be sources for the Wikipedia article content.
  • There were too many links in the reviews and links section. There should also not be links to sites such as Amazon, whose purpose is to sell the book.
Overall the tone was promotional, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:20, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes they were made from the same IP but some pages such as Russel Wilson and Rob Gronkowski were actually valid, just that they were vandalized. Matthewishere0 (talk) 04:48, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
They weren't valid when they were created. Russel Wilson was created with information about a different person. Rob Gronkowski was created with the same wrong data. You changed it to be about the actual Rob Gronkowski, but the info you added didn't show notability so it would have been deleted anyway. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:28, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Then please turn it into a standard deletion request rather than just a revert

It is not reasonable for each community to expect people identifying elaborate crosswiki spam like this to know the exact process that a wiki wishes to be undertaken. So rather than just revert this, please convert it into standard deletion request. At eight wikis a string of IP addresses have been crafting the article without any credible sources. Thanks. A previously deleted page

A current page, Ajitabha bose (author), was deleted in November 2016 in two previous versions. See Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2016/Ajitabha Bose (Author). What's the action to take? I didn't make a comparison of versions to see if perhaps the current one is acceptable where its predecessors weren't; there is (still) no Wikidata item. -- Deborahjay (talk) 20:26, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I checked the previous version (the one that was most recently deleted), and this one is almost identical. There's a QD option for exactly this situation, but it's hard for a non-admin to see the deleted version. Since I checked it to answer your question, I went ahead and deleted it. If you see something like this again, you could ask an admin to check it, or just QD it (meaning: mark it for QD) and the admin should check it before deleting. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:28, 6 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Accidentally created useless category page

So I'm just suggesting that the Swedish monarchs category page be deleted. Unless you think there is a use for it. Thanks. --Alicezeppelin (talk) 11:54, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Alicezeppelin: Good question. They may not be the same: "monarchs" would include only kings and queens who reigned, but "Kings and Queens" could include consorts. This is something I've pondered before: do we want/need to distinguish those in every case? If so, we should use "monarchs". For now, I think I'll redirect the category you created, but I think it's worth a wider discussion. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:54, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

It actually is required for templates. Its just that most people ignore it because they don't think about the fact that source code also falls under creative commons licensing. Protection of List of countries

Hi,

I can't find a dedicated place for requesting protection for pages but List of countries seems to be undergoing a lot of vandalism and disruptive edits and I see you're an active administrator so I thought I'd just drop you a line here.

Thanks,

StraussInTheHouse (talk) 18:16, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StraussInTheHouse: I semi-protected the page for three months. That's not likely to cause much of a problem because there are seldom any countries that need to be added or removed. There is no specific place for this kind of request, so WP:AN is a good place. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:26, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Excellent, will do in future. Merry Christmas! StraussInTheHouse (talk) 18:27, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Information about Sheen Das

Just letting you know the users that you RFD'd for Sheen Das, keep removing the RFD templates even though I have already asked them not too. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 19:52, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Clarkcj12: Yes I'm watching the page. Thanks for reverting. Keep leaving them messages: if they continue, maybe they will be blocked. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:02, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please refund deleted article

Hi Auntof6/Archives/2017, at my request on December 8, 2017, you userified an article which you deleted shortly after I added to it Simple because of this claim: Complex article from another Wikipedia, little sign of simplification/conversion. I have now finished simplifying Predictions of Wikipedia's end but am not permitted by the software to move it back to article space by myself. Can you please move it back? Thanks, Ottawahitech (talk) 14:40, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Please ping meReply

Please block this user ASAP. They keep creating no context pages, pages copied from EN, or pages in Spanish that are gibberish when translated (I speak Spanish). The mass creations are flooding RC, my QD log, and their talk page. Might want to flood flag yourself when deleting the pages. โ€”Glendales 03:24, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
