Requesting QD log protection

Can I have my QD log (and the archives) being protected as long as possible ? They are targeted by IP vandals, but I don't think IP users have to edit them. MathXplore (talk) 12:49, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done and MathXplore, feel free to drop a message here anytime you may want a page in your userspace protected. As long as it's not your user talk page, your userpages can be protected on your request with no excessive vandalism, spamming, socking etc. necessary for protection. Thanks. --Ferien (talk) 15:35, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shinzo Abe protection

Perhaps page protection for a very short time might be preemptively needed for Shinzo Abe's page seeing how (as I'm writing this) he is hospitalized with no "vital signs" after being shot. Page will receive a lot of attention in the coming hours and most likely attract vandals. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 03:53, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TDKR Chicago 101: We don't usually do pre-emptive protection. The only edits since 2016 are yours today. I've added this to my watchlist and will protect if vandalism occurs and is bad enough. -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:54, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

'Alexa' in templates

Greetings all - I did not know how to go about this. On Template:Infobox website there is a parameter called alexa. It no longer works as of May 1, 2022 per https://www.alexa.com. It states in the template | alexa = {{Steady}} 6 ({{as of|2013|1|5|alt=January 2013}})<ref name="alexa">{{cite web|url= http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/wikipedia.org |title= Wikipedia.org Site Info | publisher= [[Alexa Internet]] |accessdate= 2013-1-5}}</ref><!--Updated monthly by OKBot.--> When previewing an edit, it shows it as an error so I stripped it out of the on page infobox (which btw Wikipedia is a mess and needs to be fixed and maybe autoconfirmed protected. Especially at the top as it links all over the place and I get a box that shows it is trying to be redirected to wikipedia.com lol). If this were to be taken out of the template, would it cause any issues since we know the data is now stale and as time goes on it will become more and more stale? Thanks! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 20:44, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not an admin here, but Alexa has retired since May 1 so my only suggestion is to see whether archive.org has anything archived. SHB2000 (talk) 01:01, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SHB2000 The idea behind Alexa in the template is to get updated ranks for a website on a monthly website. Archives would not be beneficial here as this would be real-time updates at the end of the month that a bot would pull and update. It was a great idea though! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 01:14, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Simply remove it (and all of its uses) then. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 01:29, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh It doesn’t quite work like that especially when a bot is involved which is why I posted it here for an admin to take a look as they can see some things I don’t have permission to see. We can take it out of the article itself no issue. I’m talking about removing it from the template itself. Trust me I thought of that too but last time I tried that it broke something so I had to revert it back. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 01:36, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: I can't find any such parameter in the template. Are you sure that you have once tried to do so? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 01:42, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb, this was removed on enwiki back in Oct. 2020, and we have imported the template since then. This parameter simply doesn't exist anymore. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 01:49, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh@Fehufanga I’m not sure what you are looking at put I just pulled it up. It’s the 4th one up from the bottom on the template. I took it out of the article already. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 01:51, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: You mean the 4th last row of the table on Template:Infobox website/doc? I removed it from the documentation. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 01:57, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's only in the documentation, so there's no harm in removing it. As for the bot, it's long inactive. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 02:01, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh@Fehufanga ok if that works then it works. Auntof6 it is going to create a red category now because the articles with these infoboxes will now have something it won’t recognize. I don’t know the wording it will have but I’m sure you probably know it by heart since you deal a lot with them. Can we make that category so they can be worked on or would you prefer to do an AWB to find that parameter and remove it or do you have any other ideas on this? This was part of the reason I didn’t want to delete it first because of this reason. Thanks. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 02:27, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: What red category are you talking about? I looked at an article that has the alexa parameter in it, and I don't see a red category on that article. The article does appear in Category:Pages using infobox website with unknown parameters, but that's an existing category. If that's the one you mean, I can work on it with AWB. Just let me know if this is even close to what you're talking about. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:13, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 So Alexa is no longer used so when it is in an article, it comes up as an unknown parameter. I think the entire red link thing was fixed as the cat it is going into in. This was 10 days ago lol :) PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 03:18, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive citations

Continuing from the previous topic, there are a number of articles revolving around Persia, Armenia and Iranian peoples with an excess number of sources. Most of the time an excerpt from the source is given:

The users involved in adding these citations:

Previously, the article Iranian peoples ended up being protected for a week due to these changes. I feel like there's some sort of POV pushing going on here, as there's no reason to make over half of the article consist of sources. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 10:51, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Fehufanga I agree. This is a very tough one to fix too because they are using the same book but various pages but all the Harvs, etc. are broken. I wouldn’t mind just having them deleted as it is going to take a while to track down every single one of the articles and then search (if possible) to find what they are referring to so it can be fixed. I’ve only gotten about 1/4 of the way through Iranian peoples because these are not easy to track down as not all the sources are online. This basically is coming across to me as a flood of text, especially since a majority are IP users with no set location or country. :-( PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 00:44, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, this edit summary just ridiculous: on Indo-European countries. This isn't even a good criterion for a list page. If the page gets deleted, here is the edit summary:

Reverse changes

Hi admins, since you have the faster ability to do this with 78 changes (most are copied directly from enWP can you determine which ones of these are worth keeping. A lot of them and not most (I cleaned up a couple) are full of broken templates, links, invalid or they flat out over wrote the article we had with a direct copy. @PotsdamLamb: This belongs on the article talk page, not here. -- Auntof6 (talk) 01:04, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 Please explain why it would go there? There is x-wiki abuse and paid editing as establish by stewards yesterday for the same article topic. Praxidicae was the admin who notified us about it. Talk:Association_for_the_defense_of_animals_and_nature this was also the page you asked me about at User_talk:PotsdamLamb/Archive_3#Question. This person in the article mentioned in the subject is also part of the paid editing and I did post a conversation for the wait tag and two IP addresses continued editing afterwords. This article is also a direct copy of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ahmed_Tazi which is declined by them. While Praxidicae was not quite nice in the way she spoke to me on the TP, she did mention "you'll note it's been repeatedly created by an xwiki locked LTA" I was not able to verify that but I also do know the IP is getting blocked every couple of days for x-wiki (I know how to check these now). I have hidden all of them (usually as 'purely disruptive'). Note howeve: The sandbox is for tests, and gets cleaned automaticaaly; as to the other articles: They are sexual in nature, and wikipedia is not censored, so unless its a true privacy violation, there's generally no need for revdel. I just looked at it. It is just calling {{nobots}} so no bots can edit it. If you look at the source code, it is at the very bottom. So this import will not have an effect on it. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:17, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: I did look at the source code. {{nobots}} is a redirect to {{bots}}, so it will have an effect, especially since our current version of the template has no functionality, and the version you want adds some. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:22, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
{{nobots}} and {{bots}} still have the same meaning. The {{nobots}} will still function as is always is. The reason being is all of those commands located in {{bots}} are built into the bot and when the bot sees it, the bot knows what to do as it is part of its coding language. If a bot is not exclusion compliant, then that is another issue but most bots are exclusion compliant. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:31, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The only difference in EN's version of the template is that users who use {{bots}} to opt out of MassMessage, will be categorized into Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery. Are you intending to copy the template documentation instead? Template documentation is at the /doc subpage of the template. Chenzw  Talk  04:08, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chenzw I had asked to have it copied over. The text is the only difference as far as I know but I believe @Auntof6 was thinking it would break something based on her comments. There is more than just that difference though too. It states what you cannot opt out of. We do not have that anywhere. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 04:16, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am afraid you are still unclear with the request. Template code and template documentation are on two different pages. Which page exactly do you want to be copied? Auntof6's concern would be if the template code is copied from EN. Chenzw  Talk  08:48, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

On our side: The {{Bots/doc}} was last changed on July 6, 2018, at 21:17. The actual template {{bots}} was last changed on January 25, 2018, at 08:56. So I do believe it is time for the update.
On enWP side: The bots template was last edited on September 21, 2021, at 16:45 and the doc was last edited on April 23, 2022, at 13:13.

I think maybe both need to come over because there is a few years difference between both. I am looking at both and I think copying over both will have zero effect on the current setup. If anything changed, it would be the examples at the bottom for the various programming languages.

For the actual template the only changes in effect (as others were reverted) are this diff and this diff.

For the doc: There were a lot of changes, as it appears a lot of vandalism occurred and was reverted. However, there are some valuable changes in it. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:22, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of Nutri Ventures

An IP editor is repeating to remove RFD tag without authorization. I think this page needs protection. MathXplore (talk) 10:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore: Blocked the IP instead, for 31 hours. Since it was just the one IP, it's better to block it than protect the page and keep even more people from editing. -- Auntof6 (talk) 10:51, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete on articles

Hello, the IP that did a lot of edits and redirects was blocked by BRP for 6 months for long-term abuse. A lot of the redirects and other items they put up are not valid and should not have to go to RfD which looks like that is what they did, despite there being no such thing. The article and redirects in question are located in these contributions. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:44, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that none of the redirects are eligible for QD, as R1, R2 and R3 do not apply here, and these will have to go through the RfD process. You may wish to nominate many of the redirects in one RfD to save some time. --Ferien (talk) 18:48, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien I wasn't saying under any R; they would be more A6 because as soon as I tag them, they lose the redirect. None of the redirects are indeed factual, as proven in other RfDs for these National social mammal of Bangladesh and National social mammal of Pakistan. I can see them in various ways:
  1. Making bad pages
  2. Editing tests
  3. Deliberately adding wrong information
  4. Housekeeping

Since WP:RfD is already backlogged, the quickest way is to be bold and delete the pages and not have to send them to another board for a 7 day discussion where a discussion is not needed for extremely obvious reasons. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:09, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They are not eligible for A6, as redirects are not articles. They do not count as an article simply because the redirect disables due to a QD being placed above the redirect. G2 is for pages that are clearly tests, and the creator of the redirect clearly knew what they were doing as they created a redirect successfully. We have no sign that that was supposed to be a test. G6 is for extremely uncontroversial requests, like moving pages and merging histories. While at a push, you could maybe delete these redirects for G3 as vandalism, even that is not necessary. The worst that can happen with a redirect if it's sent to RfD is it gets no page views in a week, because redirects are not very visible here. Requests for deletion currently only has 19 requests – note, we hit well over 100 earlier this year – and the oldest current deletion request is due to be closed today. I do not consider that to be a backlog. You may wish to get comments from another administrator, but we are in no rush to delete pages, and therefore I recommend that the redirects are sent to RfD. --Ferien (talk) 19:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then have at it. I am not going to send them to RfD due to a previous discussion where we tag and and admin makes the decision to qd it or move to RfD. The list is under the contribution history. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien Not trying to be rude, just so you understand, I am looking at it practical. Why should we both waste time (me tag with QD, then you waste time to decline them all, then you spend more time moving them to RfD). It is just simpler for you to do it. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:27, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Templates in user space

Just out of curiosity what is the policy on an editor having a template in their user space and calling it to articles? Shouldn't all templates be in the template space? Granted, this one is not linked outside the userspace, except in a 2020 RfD. They are User:Drbogdan/WikipediaOverview, User:Drbogdan/ScienceFacts, and User:Drbogdan/ScienceNews. Thanks. The 2020 RfD is at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2020/Template:ScienceNews and others linked to each individual one. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:35, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb: I can't find a specific policy, but it is a bad practice to use a userspace template in an article, or even anywhere outside userspace.
As far as all templates being in templatespace, the answer is no, because there are templates that are supposed to be in userspace. These include some userboxes and WikiProject templates. Of course, those are not used in articles, categories, etc. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:42, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 So basically if they are used in article, they should be in the template space so anyone can update it, otherwise, the editor violates the not touching user space pages. I understand about the userboxen and such. I was specifically talking about templates that give value to the article(s) they may be used on. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:48, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: Well, we don't have a policy or guideline that I can find that says should, even on enwiki, but IMO that is the best way to manage them. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:58, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 So to run a scenario by you. Someone creates a template that has to be updated every 2 months and it is linked to 40 articles. They end up getting perm blocked, but the template is in their user space. Would it be easier to ask an admin to move it to the template name space, or should we have an RfC and consensus to make it a policy that any templates that are linked to an article need to be in the template namespace? Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:13, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: That's two different things: what to do if such a template exists, and whether we should have a policy. The first is hypothetical and you list a lot of variables, so I'm just going to address the second. I think it would be good to have a policy or guideline about that, but of course it would have to be proposed and discussed. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 As far as the first one, I do see people make templates (and they mostly put them in the template name space) but some put them in the their user space without a cat. So I think getting a a policy (preferred) or guideline would work and have it recursive (which means any found would need to go into the template namespace so they can be updated by anyone, given the fact wikipedia can be edited by anyone. I can work on the proposal and see what others think. I am just forward looking. I will put it here for you and other admins to help re-write it before putting it up for discussion on st. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: OK. I think you mean retroactive, not recursive. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:18, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lights and freedom: Can you point directly to an example of where it's broken? -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:38, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: On Moses#Criticism. Click the link on Numbers 31:13-18. Lights and freedom (talk) 03:39, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: I think it's because it's not specifying the Bible version. Because the search at https://bibleversefinder.toolforge.org/ works if you specify one, but otherwise it just gives an array full of numbers. Lights and freedom (talk) 03:43, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request on pages for networks, cartoons and anime?

Hey, so uhh, maybe we need better protection on articles regarding animated series, especially towards lesser known + not-so-popular cartoons. Maybe networks too. I originally came to Simple English because some rando claimed Oggy and the Cockroaches had a Canadian voice cast, was a comedy-action series and was composed by Tommy Sica.

Especially considering some contributors go all "Stop It Leave it Alone This Show Clearly Aired on Cartoonito" and "Bob the Builder: Fantastic Buildings will be real." without a citation. (The reboot is clearly in the WP:MADEUP category, too.) WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 05:58, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Chenzw Might need to protect some pages like Oggy too, my edits keep getting reverted by randos. WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 08:46, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hockeycatcat Hello? I'm taking a break here because the random, anonymous contributors tire me out. I'm not risking constant fanon reversion if it means they'll do it again, either without a summary or saying something like "Leave It Alone", "Good", or "this will be real". WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 10:07, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WannurSyafiqah74, no worries, enjoy your break! I will keep my eye on pages like that and I'll do my best to revert inaccuracies. Hope to see you again soon! Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 13:38, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I don't hate being here, but I'm just confused by how people suddenly interpret this more than regular Wikipedia as "something they can insert fanon into". Especially when it's not a wildly popular show. WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 14:09, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WannurSyafiqah74, I understand what you mean. It is unfortunate that people choose to do that and don't recognise that Wikipedia isn't the place for fanon. There are other platforms for those things; we know this! Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 14:16, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The best we can do is block anyone for constantly inserting these back in. Prorect anything that needs it, too. I just made the thread to see if everything that wasn't popular would need it, mainly semiprotection. WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 14:19, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WannurSyafiqah74 We must remember that semi-protection is only necessary when the page is actively being vandalised. If a page hasn't been touched, it's best not to protect it. Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 14:21, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This vote is now at Wikipedia:Simple talk/Archive 144#Poll Tally and a majority have voted to include the following: Arabic, Cantonese, (English), Filipino, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Dutch, and Portuguese. This is 15 languages total, however I am not sure if there will be any difference between Cantonese and Mandarin. I do not think this is too many languages, see COMMONS:Special:Login. I popped by a bit late and missed the discussion on ST completely. I think that most of the above proposed languages are generally uncontroversial and have been endorsed by the participants, with the exception of Italian, Swahili, and Dutch, where I would consider them to have failed the vote. I would like to hear what everyone's thoughts are regarding inclusion of Cantonese and (Standard) Mandarin, though. I don't see any mention in the longer discussion of adding Cantonese, and the inclusion of Cantonese is not justified by the country view statistics either (Cantonese is native to Hong Kong, Macau, some parts of China, and some overseas Chinese communities). I think Ferien brought up a very good point in this diff. Note: Cantonese and Standard Mandarin are varieties of Chinese, with the same writing system, but pronunciation and grammar differ. Chenzw  Talk  12:06, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Chenzw Will you consider doing this? Lights and freedom (talk) 00:29, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will be adding Arabic, Indonesian, and Portuguese to the language links. MediaWiki is not localized to Filipino (standard Filipino, language code fil), and only Tagalog is available (but Tagalog failed the vote). Also a correction to my above comment: Italian and Dutch had a sufficiently controversial vote outcome, but they are already existing on MediaWiki:Loginlanguagelinks, so I will keep them as they are (i.e. no consensus, stick with status quo). Selected articles on main page

There are two issues right now. First, Main Page/Article 3 and Main Page/Article 7 both redirect to the selected article for Lawrence, Kansas. Main Page/Article 3 should be retargeted to Wikipedia:Very good articles/Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. There are 28 selected articles right now, so it automatically uses articles 0-27, hence Main Page/Article 28 can be deleted.

Second, Kingsway tramway subway has been demoted to GA. So Wikipedia:Very good articles/Kingsway tramway subway should be deleted or removed from Category:Selected articles (IDK what is usually done). Then Main Page/Article 21 can be retargeted to another article, probably Wikipedia:Very good articles/Mourning dove because it currently has the highest numbered page. An editor who has been blocked indefinitely from en:Romani people for referencing issues has recently started edits with similar behavior at these pages. Nalanidil (talk) 11:42, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sir, I believe that the user is not competent to edit here. Neither the user's language is quite clear. Nor their edits are constructive. I suggest a block must be applied to Nalanidil. Also the user should edit in other projects where he is able to speak fluently (like Turkish Wikipedia). If they can't understand English at good level, then it will create a problem for us. DMK-C5 (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think the language is acceptable and make sense enough with few typo corrections. In addition, I don't have serious trouble when communicating with Nalanidil. Since I don't track all edits, I cannot declare the unconstructiveness. MathXplore (talk) 12:23, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Taxonboxes

The Template:speciesbox on Short tailed albatross isn't working correctly. It may be possible to repair it by using Template:Taxonomy/Phoebastria, but I'm not sure that's the standard here. In any case, the taxonomy template system should be consistent, so either there is a standard or the community should agree one one now. Lights and freedom (talk) 20:12, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we do use that template, when people copy over infoboxes they often forget to bring over the associated template as well. Just create them when you see this issue. I have fixed this one. The subtemplates only gets created as the article needs it otherwise we would have many unlinked subtemplates for articles that don't exist yet or are using an older version of the infobox which needs to be updated. -Djsasso (talk) 12:16, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elizabeth II updates

I'm not sure where to post this, but we might need to get a good amount of users to help update infoboxes, articles, etc. to reflect Elizabeth II's death. We need to rely on autoconfiremed editors, when it comes to editing the page on Elizabeth II or Charles III. To prevent low-key vandalism, these and possibly a few others are semi-protected for two weeks. This of course does not apply to most other officeholders. Eptalon (talk) 08:18, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing to do with administrators in particular. But if someone is interested, they can verify the titles at the following pages: 1) Prince William, Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge, 2) Catherine, Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, 3) Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, 4) Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 5) Prince George of Cornwall and Cambridge, 6) Princess Charlotte of Cornwall and Cambridge, 7) Prince Louis of Cornwall and Cambridge, 8) Prince of Wales, 9) Duke of Cambridge, 10) Duke of Edinburgh, 11) Princess of Wales. I am a bit confused which title(s) belong to who so they should all be double-checked. Infoboxes may need updating, articles may need new titles, etc. Lights and freedom (talk) 03:20, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here's what I've gathered:
  1. Prince William has been granted the title Prince of Wales.[1] If we are to follow Enwiki, then Prince William, Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge should be moved to William, Prince of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales resprctively. The other titles are not used in the lead or infobox.
    1. Their children are now Prince George of Wales, Princes Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales.[2]
  2. Prince William holds the title of Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Cornwall.
  3. The title Duke of Edinburgh is merged with the crown, and the most recent holder of the title was King Charles, after Prince Philip died. That needs to be updated.

Hello, Vladimir Putin recently announced that he'd incorporate fourUkrainian oblasts into Russia, namely Luhansk, Donnetsk (where there are two unrecognized "People's republics"), Zaporizhia and Kherson; after a make-believe referendum, which did nt meet any standards. Since no one recognized this action (as well as the annexation of the Crimean penisula in 2014), we should be aware that artiicles might pop up or be changed in such a way as to say that these areas (which are not under full Russian control either) are now port of Russia. I recently nominated one of these new article for deltion Zaporozhye Oblast (deletion discussion). Just be aware, that other articles in the same style might pop up. Since my request has not been responded for hours, I'll take a break and withdraw my request for now. I'll re-submit my request in another day when ready. MathXplore (talk) 15:36, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MathXplore: I've noticed you do a lot of this kind of renaming. I know you've withdrawn this request for now, but would you explain why these renames are needed? The names here don't need to match names on enwiki, especially with categories. It would also help if you give links to the things you plan to rename, so that we can look at them. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:07, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I thought shorter category names would be more useful, and I don't think "rural" is a simple English term. The categories that I planned to rename are the following:
MathXplore (talk) 06:22, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MathXplore: With things that have official names, we use the official name, even if it's longer or has a complex word in it.
However, looking at the matching articles, which do not use the term "rural", and at the articles and categories in German Wikipedia, it looks like the term "rural" (or the German equivalent) is not part of an official name in German so we should be OK to rename these. Note that not every article has the "(district)" qualifier, though, so we might not need it, either.
It also seems like neither enwiki nor dewiki subcategorize districts based on whether they're rural or not. We have the articles Rural districts of Germany and Urban districts of Germany, which list each type. I wonder if we could do away with the rural district categories and just categorize all districts of any type together. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:51, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Per Auntof6, I have no objections to the renaming of the categories to remove the "rural" and "urban" descriptors. Griff (talk) 15:46, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So long as you appreciate that is a matter of government decision whether they bear hierarchical descriptors such as "city", "region", etc. All we should do is reflects whatever is the established usage. Macdonald-ross (talk) 13:08, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
